SEVENDUST Unleash New Single + Music Video ‘Everything’

With excitement brewing after the release of their teaser track, “Fence”, GRAMMY® Award-nominated SEVENDUST are back with “Everything”, the debut single from Truth Killer. The song is the second piece of music from their 14th studio album, slated for worldwide release on July 28 via Napalm Records.

The band – Lajon Witherspoon, Clint Lowery, John Connolly, Vince Hornsby and Morgan Rose – have filmed a performance music video that also brings the hypnotic album cover to life. The video was directed by J.T. Ibanez (P.O.D., Loveless, Orianthi).

From the introspective opening of “I Might Let The Devil Win” to the classic SEVENDUST sound of “Fence,” the twelve songs on Truth Killer demonstrate that the band sounds as relevant today as they did on their 1997 self-titled debut. “Truth Killer,” “Everything” and “Holy Water” combine elements of the classic SEVENDUST sound with modern updates, pointing their lyrical lens at the world today and showcasing the musical diversity that has won the band a legion of loyal fans. The first song released was the album closer, “Fence,” accompanied by a claymation music video directed and animated by Ollie Jones. 

Truth Killer was produced by producer, friend and collaborator Michael “Elvis” Baskette.

GRAMMY® Award-nominated SEVENDUST are back with the announcement of their 14th studio album Truth Killer, slated for worldwide release via the band’s new label, Napalm Records. Truth Killer is the follow-up to the band’s 2020 critically acclaimed release Blood & Stone that saw the band gain newfound notoriety with their cover of Soundgarden’s “The Day I Tried To Live”. Truth Killer showcases that the original and current lineup – comprised of Lajon Witherspoon, Clint Lowery, John Connolly, Vince Hornsby and Morgan Rose – sound as relevant today as they did on their 1997 self-titled debut. Producer, friend and collaborator Michael “Elvis” Baskette returns to produce Truth Killer which is now available for pre-order in multiple configurations.

BURDEN OF THE SKY Release Official Music Video for ‘The Flood’; Announce Tour with SEVENDUST

BURDEN OF THE SKY released the official music video for their single “The Flood.” The band will be touring on Sevendust’s “Animosity Tour” in September of 2022.

“When we began writing ‘The Flood’ we were in a dark headspace. We were angry and mournful after the passing of our guitarist and founding member Bradford Shaw. Our only goal was to write a song that we could pour our soul and emotions into in honor of our fallen brother. Once we had a demo put together, we reached out to Blake (SAUL) and Morgan (Sevendust) and told them our story. We asked them to contribute their own experiences and emotions to the song and the result was better than we could have ever asked for,” says Scottie James.

He adds, “’The Flood’ is symbolic of all of the struggles in life, our demons that try to bring us down and swallow us whole; the ever-looming darkness and misery that is held back by our own will that inevitably will come crashing through the second we let our guard down. This song is our way of saying we will stand our ground — strong, fierce, and determined — in solidarity against anything life throws our way; even though we know we cannot win, we will fight for what we believe in until our last breath.”

Having hit the stage with acts such as Sevendust, Ice Nine Kills, A Day To Remember, I Prevail, Nothing More, Asking Alexandria and more, the band continues to show they belong on the big stage. Their debut album, Cinis Ad Cinis, featured the single “Same Old Page”, which has amassed millions of streams since its 2017 release. Sophomore album Sine Timore was led by “Sirens”, which was featured on many top Spotify playlists, gaining over a million streams. Most recently, the band released a cover of Ellie Goulding’s “Lights”, as well as original single “Whiteout”, which was featured on Apple Music’s “Breaking Hard Rock” playlist.

SEVENDUST To Drop Off ASKING ALEXANDRIA Tour Due To ‘Personal Family Matter’

SEVENDUST will drop off the “From Death To Destiny Tour” with ASKING ALEXANDRIA, ALL THAT REMAINS, EMMURE and FOR TODAY several dates earlier than anticipated due to a “personal family matter.” SEVENDUST‘s last show on the trek will take place on November 15 in Memphis, Tennessee.

SEVENDUST‘s ninth studio album, “Black Out The Sun”, sold 27,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 18 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD, which arrived in stores on March 26 via the band’s 7Bros. Records in conjunction with ADA Label Services, was recorded at Architekt Music studios in Butler, New Jersey with engineer Mike Ferretti.

In an interview with Revolver magazine, SEVENDUST guitarist John Connolly stated about “Black Out The Sun”: “It has a totally different vibe about it. It’s darker, but with a little bit of hope. There’s always that light at the end of the tunnel. When I listen to it, it’s almost like a greatest-hits record of songs you’ve never heard before. There’s an album that every one of those songs could potentially live on. There’s some stuff that sounds like it might belong on ‘Home’, some that sounds like ‘Seasons’. Then there are some ‘Alpha’ moments as well.”

Asked about the songwriting approach for the CD, Connolly said: “There was definitely no shortage of ideas. For this record, we had a writing area behind the live drums in the studio. Whenever someone was in the studio working on parts, any number of us would gather in this writing station and map things out right there on the spot. This was one of those albums where on Monday ‘Decay’ didn’t exist and by the end of Tuesday night, it was there.”

A track-by-track breakdown of the first three songs from “Black Out The Sun”, SEVENDUST‘s ninth studio album — “Memory”, “Faithless” and “‘Till Death” — can be seen below.

“Black Out The Sun” will be released on March 26 via SEVENDUST‘s 7Bros. Records label (through Warner Music Group‘s Independent Label Group). The CD was recorded at Architekt Music studios in Butler, New Jersey with engineer Mike Ferretti.

SEVENDUST filmed a video for the CD’s first single, “Decay”, just before its recent tour with LACUNA COIL kicked off on February 2 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

SEVENDUST drummer Morgan Rose told Billboard.com that the song actually came from a riff left over from the “Cold Ray Memory” sessions.

“We were starting to get burnt and we didn’t want to push it,” Rose recalls. “So we had this riff, and we said, ‘Let’s jam it and see if anything comes of it.’ And before you know it, it became a song that ends up on the record, and everybody listens to it and they end up picking that as the single, which was pretty cool.”

The song “Murder Bar” was reportedly inspired by a Butler, New Jersey bar across from the hotel where SEVENDUST was staying while recording the new CD. Rumor had it the place was popular with many of New Jersey’s murderers.

“It’s a basic SEVENDUST record,” guitarist Clint Lowery recently told “Source Of The Sound With Wendy Campbell”. “There’s nothing, like, too completely different than anything we’ve done before. It’s got a darker vibe to it. We’ve got a good amount of the programming element in there. It’s a lot of what we do — it’s heavy and it’s got its melodic element in it. So if you’re a SEVENDUST fan, it’s more along the lines of the second and third records we did — it’s kind of like that. It’s got a couple of throwback vibes to it. ‘Animosity’ and ‘Home’ [1999], if I can put those two records together, it would [sound similar to the new CD].”
