After the amazing reception of their latest album, legendary classic doom icons CANDLEMASS continue the onslaught of epic heaviness with the release of an exciting lyric video for their fourth single, “Angel Battle”, from Sweet Evil Sun! Following the previous three earth-shattering singles, “Angel Battle” trudges in with a captivating guitar riff, presenting an ominous motif that parallels the story of the battle between heaven and hell with amazing guitar solos signifying the fight between angels and demons. A soft lull comes in as clean guitars and an organ play a small dirge before heavy guitar riffs trumpet once again for one last time.

With Sweet Evil Sun, recorded at NOX studio in Stockholm, the Swedish force centered around Leif Edling continue their unmatched legacy, following the inimitable The Door to Doom (2019) and proving once more that they reign as one of the heaviest metal bands on earth, bringing epic doom to the world of metal. Go and grab a copy of Sweet Evil Sun out now via Napalm Records!

After working on this massive piece of art for 18 months in total, with Sweet Evil Sun, CANDLEMASS brings back all the grandness of their early years, exploring themes of ambition and strife, hope and failure. It comes as no surprise that, alongside the band, renowned producer Marcus Jidell captured the band’s massive, smoky guitar tones, powerful drums and larger-than-life vocals, offering a truly unique, high quality sonic experience.

Leif Edling on the new album:
“Sweet Evil Sun is about hope, striving, adoration and failure. It’s about all the personal battles that you have, but also the never-ending decay of humanity. The record took over a year to make and there’s not a bad track on it! We had a fantastic time recording it and are really looking forward to the release. It’s Doom, It’s Metal! It is the essence of CANDLEMASS put into one album!”

Defiant six-piece nu-metal rockers SEETHING AKIRA have released their wild and wonderful new video for their turbo-charged nu-metal single “Metaphors.”

The aggressive track pulses with a fusion of synthesizers, brutally heavy rhythms, thrashing guitars, and their signature explosive rap/rock vocal performances. Encapsulated by provocative lyrics “Metaphors” is about a single moment in time where you decide whether taking the chance is worth the risk. The single is hardcore chaos wrapped into a gift box, signed, sealed, and delivered with their usual bombastic style, and well, “Let’s take the risk.”

“Metaphors is the description of a single moment of hope seen in another individual or activity,” states Seething Akira. “And deciding in that single moment that it is worth the risk to pursue this single moment of hope for the potential of much greater moments that may follow, even if this may not come to fruition.”

Check out the video, filmed & directed by Dark Fable Media here:

In late 2020, the band launched a series of new singles leading up to their second album, the highly anticipated Dysfunctional Wonderland. With the strength of the band’s music and their popularity with fans rocketing skyward, they connected with the electronic rock label FiXT and forged a partnership for their future releases.

Releasing their globally-critically acclaimed debut EP, Profound Morality in April, HERIOT played to packed tents at Download Festival, 2000trees, Bloodstock, ArcTanGent, gathering a legion of fans in the process.

Profound Morality is out now via Church Road Records, available here: https://bfan.link/profound-morality

HERIOT are a blistering, vicious, visceral new group, having made their mark with their titanic singles ‘Dispirit‘, ‘Recreant‘, ‘Cleansed Existence‘, ‘Near Vision/Enter the Flesh’, as well as their monstrous cover of Machine Head‘s ‘Ten Ton Hammer‘ over the course of 2021.

The band’s output across the last year has led to heads being turned across the metal world, all blown away by HERIOT’s unrelenting take on the new heavy. Fully-focused and with a razor-sharp edge, the awe-inspiring double-vocal attack of Jake Packer and Debbie Gough on vocals is all-conquering; the titanic support of Erhan Alman (guitar) and Julian Gage (drums) rock-solid.

Profound Morality reflects different aspects of human behaviour in our modern society. How far people push their moral boundaries to achieve what they want; outdated modes of living and beliefs that harm our contemporary life; life and death and how fulfilment can be achieved, be that helping or hurting peers; and how this shapes tyrants of industry, and a clear separation of class and wealth.

HERIOT have deservedly been grabbing attention with all four pairs of hands, weaponising metallic sludge and hardcore, unholy levels of distortion, speed and gut-punching talent. Elements of Nails, Knocked Loose, Code Orange, and Vein combine and collide to exhilarating new effect, to create a new sound that is truly groundbreaking, fully worthy of the notice the band are achieving.

In their short recent history HERIOT have caught the attention of Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, Brooklyn Vegan, Kerrang!, Revolver, and Knotfest, among many others. Acclaimed as “one of the most promising young bands in modern metalcore”, HERIOT have supported Rolo Tomassi and Svalbard on their respective UK tours, and performed at Download, 2000trees, Bloodstock, ArcTanGent and more in 2022.

Jake Packer – Vocals/Bass
Debbie Gough – Vocals/Guitar
Erhan Alman – Guitar
Julian Gage – Drums

Finnish MARIANAS REST Announce New Album “Auer”

Melodic death doom heavyweights MARIANAS REST have announced their upcoming fourth studio album, entitled Auer, out March 24, 2023 via Napalm Records.

Hailing from the coastal town of Kotka, MARIANAS REST embodies the Finnish melancholy and sadness of a cold, harsh winter landscape with absolute perfection. Formed in 2013, the six-piece with Jaakko Mäntymaa on vocals and Omnium Gatherum’s Aapo Koivisto on keys took the heavy music scene by storm with the release of their impressive 2016-debut, Horror Vacui. Now, just in time to celebrate their 10th band anniversary, MARIANAS REST unleashes eight new tracks that couldn’t be more multifaceted.

Songs such as first single ‘Diseased’ prove that death metal does not always need fast-paced riffage and thunderous blast beats – MARIANAS REST spice up their dark mood with a heavy dose of doom and a significant black metal touch, to deliver a colossal sound and new piece of pure art!

Vocalist Jaakko Mäntymaa comments: “Today we are proud to present the first details about Auer, the most musically diverse of our albums so far. It is a story about the never ending dance of shadow and light. Humankind repeats its mistakes, but there is beauty amongst chaos.”

Bassist Niko Lindman adds: “We broke traditional song structures and seasoned the atmosphere slightly with clean vocal parts. The very core has still not essentially changed much as the album continues the “there is still light at the end of the tunnel, maybe” atmosphere familiar from the previous albums.”

“Diseased is most likely one of our most venomous designs,“ says the singer about the band’s first single. “It is the deep, dark end of Auer: A story about the poison that is spreading amongst us as we speak. No one is safe.”

Auer, is epic, heavy, sad and bleak; its overall melancholic yet brutal riffs, mesmerizing auditory colors and immersive vocals will hit you deep in your core. It’s a heavy ride through a disturbing yet beautiful sound landscape that only a Finnish band like MARIANAS REST can create, while always keeping you warm and welcome yet haunted and hopeless.

The album was recorded and mixed by Teemu Aalto at Teemu Aalto Music Productions, and was mastered by Svante Forsbäck at Chartmakers. The band‘s upcoming offering not only features a vocal guest appearance by MY DYING BRIDE vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe on album track “Sirens”, but without question, Auer will establish the name of MARIANAS REST as one of the most enthralling, remarkable and exceptional melodic death and blackened doom metal bands of modern times!
