Following her triumphant “Faster” UK tour in October 2022, American guitarist, and singer songwriter Samantha Fish, is pleased to announce that she will return to the UK for a 9-date UK tour in October 2023.

Planet Rock’s 48-hour ticket pre-sale starts at 9am on Wednesday 30 November via the pre-sale link athttps://planetrock.gigantic.com/samantha-fish-tickets.

Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Friday 2 December at alttickets.com, gigantic.com, ticketmaster.co.uk, and samanthafish.com.

Samantha will perform songs from her 2021 album “Faster.” The album includes the singles “Twisted Ambition”, “All Ice, No Whiskey”, “Better Be Lonely” and “Faster.” Samantha will also perform songs from her extensive back catalogue including the radio smash single “Bulletproof” from her 2019 breakthrough album, “Kill Or Be Kind.”

“Faster” is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed “Kill or Be Kind” album, and marks Samantha’s first collaboration with producer Martin Kierszenbaum (Lady Gaga, Sting), who co-wrote eight of the album’s 12 new songs and helped the genre-defying guitarist, singer, and songwriter to re-define her sound and venture into new sonic territory.

After launching her recording career in 2009, Samantha established herself as a rising star in the contemporary blues world. The charismatic singer-guitarist-songwriter has earned a reputation as a rising guitar hero and powerful live performer, while releasing a series of acclaimed albums that have shown her restless creative spirit consistently pushing her in new, exciting, and often unexpected musical directions.

The New York Times called Fish, “An impressive blues guitarist who sings with sweet power,” and “One of the genre’s most promising young talents.” Her hometown paper, the Kansas City Star wrote: “Samantha Fish has kicked down the door of the patriarchal blues club and displays more imagination and creativity than some blues veterans exhibit over the course of their careers.”

Samantha believes her musical future is an open road. “I’m never going be a traditional blues artist, because that’s not who I am,” she says. “But it’s all the Blues for me. When Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf came out, what they were doing didn’t sound like anything that had been done in Blues before. You’ve got to keep that kind of fire and spirit. I’m never going to do Muddy Waters better than Muddy Waters, so I try to be who I am, and in doing that, I find my best voice.”

HUNTING GIANTS Release New Video ‘Among Thieves’ about Addiction’s Destructive Nature

Canada’s HUNTING GIANTS are sharing their next lyric video for the track “Among Thieves” off their latest album  “Mythos”  released this past September. The song hits close to home as their hometown of Vancouver, BC has been a focal point of the opioid crisis in their country.

The band goes into further detail about the track:

“As you listen to ‘Among Thieves’, the slow sensual riff of the verse comments on the seductive nature of destructive things which, we can use to temporarily ease our emotional or psychological pain. We move on to see how they slowly alter you into someone you weren’t before. Under the racing gallops of the percussion, we explore how violence can seem to be the most effective and immediate solution to solve disagreements and needs. The guitar, bass, and percussion all ring out as the progressive rock elements of the song are featured in a vocal chant expressing fear, pain, and hope. As the drums drop into halftime, we encounter a gritty taste of the life of those who live in addiction. A swell of guitar and stringed instruments signals the moment of self-realization and the protagonist has taken ownership of who they have become. We are greeted warmly by a swirling choir of vocals, guitar, and strings, which are broken by the toll of bells as our hero embraces his faults and opens his heart to the world. ‘Among Thieves’ is the epic on our album, ‘Mythos’.”

“Mythos” is the crowning achievement of Hunting Giants‘ many years of musical work, writing and recording while gigging and enduring quarantine as a band during the Covid pandemic. The members of Hunting Giants all came from, and are inspired by, progressive rock and metal bands where songs would often pass the ten-minute mark. However, they desired to keep their own music concise and to the point, intentionally lacking much of the excess material that so often padded run-times of songs in the progressive rock-metal genre. Simple and clean lines are given priority over complicated abstractions that only challenge the player in an athletic way, provided that it serves the music.

Hunting Giants is confident that new listeners, as well as those familiar with them through their previous release “Skyward Eyes”, will find an accomplished intensity and listenability in “Mythos”, which represents their musical growth and evolution. Each of the thirteen songs was specially picked for the album to contribute to the overarching story in a theatrical and energetic manner. With riffs that will inspire and lyrics that will mystify.

“This album is musically very diverse as it ranges from intense white-knuckled metal tracks, down to gentle instrumental tracks peppered with melodic piano and haunting cello, all the way to epic ballads tastefully complimented by choirs, strings, and bells. Mythos lyrically explores archetypes, both heroic and villainous, that affect the world around us, as well as the inevitable fates which arise when these values are heinously held and expressed.” adds the band.

Hunting Giants is recommended for those who enjoy a 90s vibe and progressive elements, especially fans of Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Tool, and Audioslave.

SOEN to Re-Issue First Two Albums “Cognitive” & “Tellurian”

Re-issued on January 27th 2023 are the official SOEN-endorsed releases, bringing their entire catalogue to one label for the first time. The re-issues are available to pre-order now via D2C at soen.shop whilst traditional retail pre-orders are now live at this location

Soen, the dynamic, mercurial, and titanic Swedish progressive metal supergroup, have decided to re-release their first two albums, Cognitive and Tellurian, on Silver Lining Music January 27th 2023, reviving these benchmark steps in the band’s progression.

Reinterpreted as a live orchestral composition, the melodically haunting, Savia from the debut Cognitive, also appears in Soen’s most recent release ATLANTIS, the special concert film featuring the group’s most popular compositions. Watch/Listen to the recently released Savia at this location

Cognitive will enjoy a first-ever vinyl release, which will include the bonus track “Written” as well as full lyrics. Tellurian, currently out of print, will also be reissued on vinyl.

Cognitive saw drummer Martin Lopez (Opeth, Amon Amarth), vocalist Joel Ekelöf (Willowtree), bassist Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus, Testament), and guitarist Kim Platbarzdis create what Lopez described as “melodic, heavy and intricate” songs which illustrated the scope, range and power potential Soen held. They would further develop those sensibilities and expand upon those dimensions with Tellurian, Stefan Stenberg coming in on bass, and the deeper, richer melodies alongside personal performances which pushed the limits of excellence, have seen the initially-limited release album establish itself as a core album for Soen and their fans. Both albums were produced by the Grammy Award-winning Dave Bottrill, who has worked with Peter Gabriel, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, and Muse.

Always provocative, engaging and ultimately a deeply entertaining experience, having these two rich and vital pieces of Soen’s story released under Silver Lining Music represents a moment of principal importance to the band, with every recorded chapter of their career thus far finally in one officially endorsed home, and future chapters to come on Silver Lining Music.

COGNITIVE and TELLURIAN will be available as Gatefold double vinyl releases, with artwork and packaging curated by Martin Lopez. A limited-edition “Black Friday” bundle featuring extended liner notes signed by Martin Lopez and Joel Ekelöf is available to pre-order here until stock lasts.

Polynesian SHEPHERDS REIGN Re-Release ‘Le Manu’ & ‘Aiga’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on November 28, 2022
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: SHEPHERDS REIGN. Leave a comment

Following their recent signing to Golden Robot Records, SHEPHERDS REIGN have re-released ‘Le Manu‘ & ‘Aiga’ as a double A-side single.

The most dominant of Samoan warriors, Manu Samoa, provides the utterly crushing thunder of this war cry, adopted by Shepherds Reign as they look to their ancestors and families for guidance and further strength on their steady march to metal dominance. With a catchy melodic twist inside the unwavering power, ‘Le Manu‘ is fair warning that Shepherds Reign are en route to the world stage.

Buy/stream ‘Le Manu‘and ‘Aiga’ HERE

‘Aiga‘ is the guttural roar of a tribal warning against the foolishness of someone thinking that they know so much about life that they no longer need their family’s love. Wrapped in a cradle of enormous percussive grooves, with equal-sized riffs to match, it is a directive from Shepherds Reign to those who get lost in worlds of temptation and false knowledge to know that true happiness lies in family.

This double A-side comes in place of highly anticipated new music that will be delivered in 2023.

ABOUT SHEPHERDS REIGN

Tribal. Supremely talented. Fiercely noble. Richly proud. Shepherds Reign are bringing their house to your ears, mind and heart, their power and passion unequivocal, their musical voices luminescent and majestic.

You’d do well to start paying attention…

Hailing from South Auckland New Zealand, and thus Polynesian by birth and blood, Filiva’a James (vocals and keytar), Gideon Voon (guitar), Oliver Leupolu (guitar/production), Shaymen Rameka (drums) and Joseph Oti-George (bass) are not playing games. Shepherds Reign is life, Shepherds Reign is survival, Shepherds Reign is mental and physical health and Shepherds Reign is what they are on this planet to do.

Their voice is their mighty, fearsome music and their vocation is to share with the world every aspect of lives and cultures deserve the international ear. Whether unleashing the raw, guttural tribal roar of “Aiga” or the biker-rough riffery which is “End of The Trial”, there is a special passion and power in every single note Shepherds Reign share with the world, a rare presence which demands the world stage.

Shepherds Reign carry a motivation and execution which defies logic. Their videos have become a thing of independent heavy metal/hard rock legend, with narratives and production values which embarrass many an established international act, and in a covid19 era, they have managed to amass nearly 3 million YouTube views with the video for “Le Manu”, whilst “Aiga”, released on December 5th 2020, has already amassed over 350,000 views.

As for their live show, Shepherds Reign are famous in Australasia for their primal performance, one which evokes many aspects of their cultural heritage and fierce Polynesian pride. There’s the enormous intimidating presence of James, a towering hulk of humanity adorned with the shark tooth necklace (as are all the band members) who demands your full attention and gets it. Then there’s the gargantuan riffs and twisting dual melodies of Voon and Leupolu, whose virulent virtuosity is undeniable. Rounding out the sound is the crushing, bombastic Rameka/George rhythm section, which gives Shepherds Reign their propulsive, dynamic metal sound.

Here’s the truth.

Whether you choose to engage or not, Shepherds Reign’s raw passion, determination and sheer goddamn talent is going to be bringing them to major international stages worldwide. Theirs is an inevitable journey. You’d be doing yourself a favour to get on-board now before the train’s left the station and you’re kicking yourself black and blue…

Shepherds Reign and Golden Robot Records have now joined forces and will bring you new music in 2023 – this will be one massive event.
