Cathartic black metal outfit GAEREA are now releasing a brand new video for the track ‘Laude’, which is taken from the band’s freshly released album ‘Mirage’. The new offering celebrates GAEREA‘s upcoming tour dates with label mates GAAHLS WYRD and SAOR which will kick off later this week. A full list of confirmed dates can be found below.

GAEREA comment on the video: “Today we shine light upon LAUDE, the last single of the Mirage Record. An ode to this core’s unity and a whisper in the High Lands for what is about to unfold in the Vortex Society. A song about Sacrifice, Despair and Agony. A song about us: GAEREA. And as we once wrote: “(…) if the shores were not ravaged by human greed and ignorance, Resilience would draw a wall of adventures ingrained in our cells”

The album can still be found in various formats HERE and streamed on all digital platforms HERE.

SMASHED GLADYS Release New Single ‘What A Shame’ + Announce New Album “Raw”

SMASHED GLADYS have released a new single for ‘What A Shame’. Furthermore the band has announced their new album “Raw”, set to be released on October 7th.

‘What a Shame’ is the new and 5th single to be released from the upcoming RAW album and is now available on digital platforms.

It mirrors the rollicking spree that was downtown New York City in the 1980s. The irreverent lyrics transform this from a rock song about a bad romance into a boisterous middle finger to the object of the singer’s scorn. The swinging guitars and driving rhythm section would put this song at home in any arena or club.

Smashed Gladys was the band that built the scene, and literally the stage, at The Cat Club in 1980s New York. They had a bold sound that caught the attention of major labels and top-notch management when they released their self-titled debut in 1985. The follow up, Social Intercourse, was ahead of the curve with raunchy lyrics sung by an unapologetic front woman, Sally Cato. She and guitarist Bart Lewis had come to New York from Toronto to take on the world, and they did, until sands shifted in the music business, a band member overdosed, and Sally and Bart went their separate ways.

Fast forward to 2020. Bart had been teaching music when the pandemic hit. With the world at a standstill, he recalled unreleased demos and the songs the band had recorded with Gene Simmons of KISS. He thought about how, in this moment, the force of a singer like Sally would be fully embraced.

Then, in May of 2020 Sally Cato passed away.

Bart knew that he had to take the roughs he had on hand, source the rest (some of which were found behind fireplace bricks!) and put together an incredible team to bring forward this tribute to Sally. The result of that effort, and what would be her final recorded work, is the new Smashed Gladys album, RAW out on Golden Robot Records on October 7th, 2022.

Bart reached out to Gene Simmons who gave his blessing, and then set out to bring a talented cast of players, engineers and mixers together to realize this vision. Simmons has been an ongoing supporter of the band, saying “I’ve always been a fan of Smashed Gladys – particularly Sally’s voice and persona, and that does not take into account a really solid musical unit. As good as anything that’s out there certainly. Smashed Gladys is as cool as it gets.”

The original recordings with Sally, Bart, Matt Steluto and bass players Mark Sliker, Fernando Rosario Jr, and Ken Fox were enhanced with Toronto native Victor D’Arsie on keyboards and bass. Mark Dearnley, who produced the first Smashed Gladys album, returned to mix six of the tracks, while John Catto, guitar player for The Diodes and a lifelong friend of Sally’s, mixed five tunes. The four songs mixed by Gene Simmons and the three mixed by Sally herself round out this powerful collaboration.

RAW will be available for digital download on October 7 with Vinyl and CD to follow late 2022/early 2023.

ABOUT SMASHED GLADYS

Born from the embers of the vibrant Toronto punk scene, Smashed Gladys helped to craft a legendary period of New York City rock.

Lead singer Sally Cato started as a singer in the art rock band The Concordes, while guitarist Bart Lewis did a brief stint with Canada’s most dangerous band, The Viletones, before departing for NYC.

Soon after relocating to Gotham, Sally & Bart met songwriter Tommy Boyce, who (along with his partner Bobby Hart) had coined most of The Monkees songs. Under Boyce’s guidance, the group began rehearsing at a well known studio in midtown Manhattan.

SG started playing venues in and around the NYC area, during which time they met Gene Simmons. Simmons offered them a production/ management deal.

The band’s original 4 members:
Sally Cato – Vocals
Bart Lewis – guitar
Matt Stellutto – drums
Ken Fox (Toronto’s Raving Mojo’s, Jason and the Scorchers and The Fleshtones) – bass

Along with the addition of Hilly Michaels, drummer from the Ian Hunter band – SG went into the studio and recorded close to an album’s worth of material produced by Simmons.

Four of the songs from those sessions are being released now, for the first time ever, on the Golden Robot release, Raw.

Simmons captured the personality and raw grittiness of the band perfectly and by the end of 1984, SG were in the UK recording their first album, Smashed Gladys, with Mark Dearnley at the producer helm.

Smashed Gladys returned to the states and began touring and doing opening slots with The Dead Boys, Van Zant, Nazareth, Ace Frehley, Cheap Trick, Poison, Rick Derringer, Blue Oyster Cult, Krokus and others.

It was during this feverish period that they established the infamous Wednesday night series at The Cat Club. The night became a launching pad for several bands, and grew to become a showcase venue, late night hang, and playing party stage for artists such as David Bowie, Duran Duran, Mick Jagger and several others.

Selling out venues in Manhattan and the surrounding tri-state area, Smashed Gladys caught the attention of Elektra records A&R rep Michael Alago. In 1986 they were signed by Elektra VP, Howard Thompson.

The band played a signing gig to a packed house at one of the first venues they played in NYC – CBGB’s. Elektra picked up the rights to the first record and then sent the band into the studio to work on their next record, Social Intercourse, recorded in NYC with Rick Browdie and in L.A with Michael Wagner doing additional tracking and mixing.

While making the record, they met the artist working in the adjacent studio, Ozzy Osbourne, who made a guest background vocal appearance on the song “Cast of Nasties.” Osbourne had warned the band that some of the titles and subject matter on the record might get them in trouble in certain markets and banned altogether from retailers such as Walmart. He was right, and touring in certain Midwestern states became dangerous at times forcing the band to bring along new members … Mr Smith & Wesson.

SG was making demos for their third record when they received offers from producers John Paul Jones and Mick Ronson. They went with Mick Ronson and began pre-production, but Ronson fell ill. The Band was then picked up by Teddy Slatus, Johnny Winter’s manager and label.  Tragically, SG’s third bass player, Mark Sliker, then died from a drug overdose. Following the trials and tribulations, Sally left the music business and returned to being a graphic artist.

PIL & BUE Return with Emotive + Energetic New Double Single ‘Special Agents’ + ‘Never Stop (part 1)’

PIL & BUE are a fierce duo from the very North. With one of the best vocalists from Norway, Petter Carlsen, on vocals and guitar, and Gøran Johansen slaying the drums, they are an explosion of hard rock.

Today, September 27th the vigorous and resolute band, that has been touring consistently since the release of The World is a Rabbit Hole, is ready to release even more music!

This time Pil & Bue generously gift their fans with nothing less than a double single featuring two wonderfully emotive, yet energetic tracks: Special Agents and Never Stop (part 1).

Listen here: https://orcd.co/specialagents

These are two quite different, yet undeniably linked tracks.
Special Agents is a powerful and impactful track celebrating the people who make positive changes in your life, while Never Stop (Part 1) is a softer and more slow-paced song that urges you to look within yourself and appreciate the world around you.

Where Special Agents barges in on you like an unstoppable, yet vulnerable force of nature, Never Stop (Part 1) hits like a mild and comforting breeze.

Both songs are about recognizing that we are in this world together – that people as social beings, through love and understanding, hold the key that can turn our world into a better place.

The band comments:
Special Agents
is a song about one or more people who bind the world together a little more, who make reality a little safer, more inclusive, and easier to relate to.

Never Stop (Part 1) is a philosophical and atmospheric song that takes its time.
It transformed our rehearsal space into a world it felt nice to be a part of. It is about pursuing what gives life meaning. If you have a calling, follow it, no matter what.”

ABOUT PIL & BUE
With subtle, but pronounced references to artists like Placebo, Deftones, Sigur Rós, Anathema and Mars Volta, Pil & Bue delivers “Hard, gloomy & joyful music…” (Metal Hammer NO) based on topics like memories, childhood aspirations, use of imagination, video games, and the intriguing online rabbit holes.

The band´s raw and melodic music quickly struck a note with Hollywood director Tommy Wirkola who included the Pil & Bue single “You Win Again” in his now cult-status movie “Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival January 2014.

Also, their single “Fire” from their second album “Forget the Past, Let’s Worry About The Future” is featured on the end credits of Hollywood/Netflix blockbuster “What Happened To Monday” (2017).

Pil & Bue released their acclaimed third album The World is a Rabbit Hole in September 2021, an album which got rave reviews: 6/6 Scream Magazine (NO), 5/5 Metal´art (FR), 5/6 Norway Rock Magazine, 5  Altaposten, 7/10 Metalhammer UK og 11/15 from www.betreutesproggen.de

Indonesia’s SCALLER Release Stunning New Album “Noises And Clarity”

Hailing from Jakarta, Indonesia, alternative rock duo SCALLER have released their stunning second album ‘Noises & Clarity’, featuring previously released singles ‘Chaos & Order’, ‘Music All We Have’ & ‘Inside My Head’. The album marks Reney Karamoy & Stella Gareth musical journey, embracing honesty in lyrics writing and immediacy in composing without too much overdone production.

Many tracks in the album come from the band’s spontaneous approach of jamming in one room which led to more organic vibes but rich in dynamics with rock energy and no corrective or audio manipulation in post just like the old days. As an overall theme, lyrically, the album is an amalgamation of the duo’s personal train of thoughts, embracing noises inside their heads and trying to make peace with it because noises & clarity coexist. SCALLER describe this music as an articulation of resiliency and heroes’ journey, pursuing their personal enlightenment.

TRACK BY TRACK

What Do You Want
This song is a fitting opening track for SCALLER’s sophomore album. The tracks sets the mood for the album by trying to make emotional connection with the audience for what’s coming up in the next track. The arrangement is minimalistic with acoustic guitars and a few synth lines that uplift the vocal melodies. Lyrically simple, yet intriguing with repetitively asking existential question wrapped in atmospheric elements at the end.

Born & Die
Lyrically this song talks about resiliency and embracing pain in life combined with gritty instrumental jam in the middle of the song that is drum, bass and guitar driven as SCALLER’s signature moment in arrangement. The track also features acoustic piano to add more organic and natural vibes in the track.

Concrete & Plastic
This track in the album features guitar and synth riffs as well as tasty drums chop with a little bit influence of krautrock’s steady build-up and climax point at the end.

Inside My Head
The third single from the album, this track offers sonically pleasing elements of live drums, riffin’ guitars and bass synthesizer with the right amount of grit and rawness in vocals.

Music All We Have
This track is the second single off the album. It’s a combination of crunchy guitars, melodious and honest vocals and dynamically rich arrangement in sonic spectrum.

What Tomorrow Holds
This track is a mixture of different elements in SCALLER’s musical direction. Starting with acoustic guitars and acoustic piano with organic drums, then a more aggressive guitar riff comes in the middle of the song to add richness of arrangement. Lyrically exploring fear of the unknown which is very human.

Chaos & Order
The first single from the album and an atmospheric track from SCALLER that features extended sonic landscape from guitars and synthesizer combined with strings element and drum beats. Accompanied by melodious vocal and philosophical lyric theme.

Timeless
The closing track is the final piece that finishes the puzzle in the album. It starts with guitars and piano, followed up by lush vocal harmonies and rhythmically enticing drums that somehow has hints of sub-saharan groove. Lyrically romanticizing some photographs of people who shuffle in and out in our life.

ABOUT SCALLER
The music of SCALLER is often described as alternative post-rock by the media, but having a myriad of sounds employing analog synthesizers and rhythmically tense guitars, leads SCALLER‘s music into a more complex ground.
They released an EP 1991 in 2013, featuring a classic ‘Live And Do’ and a full-length debut album Senses in 2017 with more distinguished tracks like ‘The Youth,’ ‘Upheaval,’ ‘Flair’ & ‘Move in Silence.’ The album peaked at 1st place in Rolling Stone Indonesia’s January chart and featured in top 20 album of 2017, positioned 3rd.
SCALLER gained more exposure in mid 2016. They were nominated as ‘Breakthrough Artist Of The Year‘ by Indonesian Choice Awards in 2016 and awarded ‘Rookie Of The Year‘ in 2017 by Rolling Stone Indonesia. Since then, the band have been headlining music festivals such as Soundrenaline, Synchronize Fest, We The Fest, Kickfest, Jakarta Fair and many more.
In 2019, the band went global. It all started by getting a direct invitation to showcase their music at MUSEXPO, Los Angeles (USA) in March. Although the performance didn’t happen due to VISA issues, their music was also heard in some countries in the Asia region and led them to play in Japan, August 2019. The following month, they played 3 shows in Singapore as part of one of the biggest music conference in South East Asia ‘Music Matters‘ and in November 2019 they were invited to do a showcase at ‘Bangkok Music City,’ Thailand

“It’s really exciting to be part of the upcoming Anthrax tour. I’ve been a huge fan since their early days,” states singer Sal Lococo. “Not only are we touring with 1 of the big 4, but we also get to support Municipal Waste! The UK doesn’t know what they are in for!”

SWORN ENEMY’s most recent album, ‘Gamechanger,’ was released in April 2019 by M-Theory Audio. The album – produced by Robb Flynn of Machine Head and engineered, mixed and mastered by Zack Ohren (Suffocation, Fallujah, Warbringer) – featured 11 tracks of punishing metallic force that expertly fused the hardcore spirit, thrash metal energy, and metallic groove that have fueled the Queens, NY band from day one. ‘Gamechanger’ was praised by Cryptic Rock as “a brazen album of guts, honor, and respect,” earned plaudits from Dead Rhetoric for its “massive chugging riffs/breakdowns,” and was applauded by Metal Temple for being “heady, rabid, and ready to fuck your shit up.”

The group just released a video for “The Consequence” featuring footage edited by guitarist Matt Garzilli of the guys recording ‘Gamechanger’ at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland – https://youtu.be/GPLE21VMiB4

SWORN ENEMY first burst onto the scene after being signed by Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta, who released the group’s first two EPs on his Stillborn Recordings label in 2001 and 2002. He also produced the band’s full-length debut, “As Real As It Gets,” memorably praised by Lambgoat as “music that inspires you to want to beat the living piss out of the next unsuspecting person who walks in the room.” The album was released by Elektra Records in 2003, a year that saw the band deliver memorable performances on tour with Ozzfest. The band has also performed alongside a bevy of heavy metal greats, including Mastodon, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Suicide Silence, Dying Fetus, Earth Crisis, Madball, Biohazard, Sacred Reich, Vio-lence, Overkill, Shadows Fall, Nuclear Assault and Hatebreed.

The years between “As Real As It Gets” and “Gamechanger” saw the band release four additional records, three of which – 2006’s “The Beginning of the End,” 2007’s “Maniacal,” and 2009’s “Total World Domination” – will be reissued on colored vinyl with liner notes by Sal Lococo in early 2023 by M-Theory Audio.
