‘These Boots Are Made For Walkin’‘ is the latest single from JOHNNY THUNDERS in anticipation of his upcoming live album. The track is a rendition of the Nancy Sinatra classic with an atmospheric approach that makes you feel like you’ve been transported into the live audience watching Thunders make it his own.
About Johnny Thunders Born in Queens, NY in 1952, Johnny Thunders fell in love with rock ’n’ roll and turned his back on a potentially successful baseball career to start the legendary New York Dolls – the band that spawned hundreds of other hopeful rock ’n’ roll bands. When the New York Dolls folded, JT and drummer Jerry Nolan went back to New York’s budding punk rock scene to start The Heartbreakers; an iconic band if there ever was one. Their raw, wild and ‘dirty’ sound became engraved in the minds of all those young punks and it’s fair to say they were more than a major influence on the London punk scene. Over the years, The Heartbreakers toured on and off and they always kept the magic from the early days. Everybody remembers ‘Chinese Rocks’, ‘Born to Lose’ and other gems embedded in our hearts and minds forever. Solo, Johnny Thunders showed a vulnerable, deeply sensitive and poetic side to his rocker persona, with masterpieces like ‘Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory’, and ‘So Alone’. Whatever his personal circumstances and demons he had to fight, he never lost his love for rock ’n’ roll or his unique personal sense of style or signature sound that influenced so many. JT just can’t leave anyone indifferent which continues to this day, even after his untimely passing at age 38 in New Orleans.
Sorrow & The Spire is the self-titled debut EP from solo artist Navid Rashid, featuring six tracks of undeniable melodic hard rock, with song after song of passionate vocals, winning choruses, high energy guitar riffs, and lyrics that avoid cliche in favour of the thoughtful and catchy. Sorrow & The Spire will be released digitally via Crusader Records on November 4th.
Sorrow & The Spire recently burst on to the scene by delivering some of the year’s best melodic hard rock tracks ‘My Misery Calling’, ‘Castle’s in the Air’ and ‘In the City Tonight’ giving listeners and insight into what to expect from the EP and the highly talented Rashid. Watch the videos below.
Navid‘s years of songwriting experience in various projects converge to create a collection of songs that seamlessly bring together elements of modern active rock and 80’s hard rock anthems, and with huge and dynamic production by Steve Brown (Trixter, Def Leppard, Tokyo Motor Fist), Sorrow & The Spire delivers a focused vision that leaps out of the speakers and doesn’t let go.
Sorrow & The Spire is the solo project of Navid Rashid, long time driving force of US progressive metal band Iris Divine. Though metal runs in his blood, Navid has always maintained a love for well-written melodic rock, where big guitar riffs support catchy and even pop-influenced melodies, and immediacy doesn’t have to sacrifice depth. Navid has been the leader of various bands and projects over the years, never gaining notoriety outside of independent and underground music circles, but steadily refining his talents and continuing to write and perform for the right reason – the love of the music. Now, with years of experience and the inspiration of decades of amazing rock and metal music dating back to his youth, he has evolved into a solo artist that has something to say.
Sorrow & The Spire is the voice of a singer/songwriter/guitarist who is equally at home with 80s influenced hard rock, and the 90s/00s active rock and modern rock that fuses it with alternative and even touches of grunge.
Navid is proud to release his first few singles through Crusader/Golden Robot Records. Produced, engineered and mixed by forty-year industry veteran Steve Brown (Trixter, Tokyo Motor Fist) and featuring good friends and guest rhythm section Chris DeChiara (U.S. Navy Band) and Jeff Teets (MindMaze), these tracks introduce rock fans to Sorrow & The Spire’s big riffs and memorable hooks, that go for the heart with unrelenting energy, and just flat-out rock. They would be equally at home on rotation at Sirius XM or cranked up on a stage at full volume.
Navid’s melodic sensibilities shine through in his passionate vocals and distinctive guitar style, always putting emotion before technique, and the song before everything. “My Misery Calling” kicks things off with infectious energy and a huge chorus, “Castles In The Air” turns up the heaviness a notch with a positive message, soaring guitar solos and a few progressive touches, and “In The City Tonight” is the best late 90s active rock power ballad you’ve never heard.
More than a throwback, fans of bands ranging from Def Leppard to Foo Fighters would be well advised to check out Sorrow & The Spire, for killer music that takes familiar sounds into modern directions.

As with every AUDREY HORNE album, there are no duds or misfires as the songs flow together seamlessly, making Devil’s Bell a delight to play from the first note straight to the end. Frontman Toschie once again proves that he has one of the most charismatic and energetic voices in rock, and the kinetic guitar-work of Ice Dale (Enslaved) and Thomas Tofthagen (ex-Sahg) underlines an outstanding genre-warp of 70s and 80s rock via NWOBHM, keeping the music rocking and the listener locked in. Former Quiet Riot Bassist Chuck Wright and Ultimate Jam Night founder recently spoke to The Metal Voice about his new solo album ‘Sheltering Sky’, his Quiet Riot years and time he almost reunited the original David Lee Roth band.
Excerpt from the interview Chuck Wright remembers the historic night in almost reuniting the David Lee Roth original band for the ‘Eat ‘Em and Smile’ 30 year anniversary, due to over capacity, “To be the big feather in the cap was to get the ‘Eat ‘Em and Smile’ band (David Lee Roth band original Lineup) back together. The word got out and the club wouldn’t listen to me, they kept letting people in, they would not listen to me. I said you guys, the Fire Marshal’s gonna close us down. All the guys from Eat’ Em and Smile, Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan, Greg Bissonnet and the late Brett Tuggle (keyboards), were all there. David Lee Roth shows up, he’s sitting in the Green Room, they’re ready to go. They’re on stage, curtain’s about to open and the Fire Marshal says you can’t play. It was just heart-wrenching for me and that’s when things started to go south with that particular venue. I mean they took away a great thing from us by just not listening. They were thinking more about let’s get more people in or, sell more booze or whatever. There were way too many people, we pleaded. Hey listen if some of you people could just leave. “
“The word got around town. Our night that would do anywhere from 500 to 800 people suddenly had 2000+ people lined up around the building. Last I heard we had about 1000 people in the building and the fire marshal showed up. Shut down the show and said everyone had to leave. ” singer Matt Starr stated as reported on Sleaze Roxx Dec 4, 2021
The Fire Marshal on Nov 25, 2015 shut down Lucky Strike during the Ultimate Jam Night before the DLR solo reunion do to over capacity. The cancelled performance would have marked the first time in 30 years that David Lee Roth of Van Halen guitarist Steve Vai, bassist Billy Sheehan, drummer Greg Bissonette, and keyboardist Brett Tuggle, to perform some of the hits from the classic “Eat Em and Smile” album.
‘Eat Em and Smile’ record which was David Lee Roth’s debut solo album released in 1986.
Long time Bassist for multi-platinum rockers Quiet Riot, Chuck Wright has released his debut solo album, “Chuck Wright’s Sheltering Sky”.

The album’s 11 tracks also illustrate Wright’s impressive songwriting ability as he either wrote or co-wrote all nine original songs on the album. Also included is an edgy, intense version of Bjork’s “Army of Me” along with a soulful, Celtic-rock take on The Youngbloods classic, “Darkness, Darkness.” Chuck also produced and engineered most of the album.
