ENSLAVED has released a stunning new track titled ‘Kingdom‘ alongside an evocative concept video. The unorthodox Norwegians have found themselves at an intersection of sorts, where the momentum of living time rushes forward at an ever-increasing pace, imperceptibly modulated by the primeval echoes of eons past.

Ivar Bjørnson stated:

Never faltering, Norway’s iconic Enslaved continue to exist as one of the most original and dependable components in our scene’s indestructible backbone. Possessing the reputation as one of the most riveting live acts around, they never fail to offer us talent of the highest calibre, always doing justice to their signature black/progressive sound. Enslaved was formed in 1991 by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson, releasing their first demo Yggdrasill in the summer of 1992, their legendary mini-album Hordanes Land coming out in 1993, and with their debut full-length Vikingligr Veldi arriving in the spring of 1994.

Enslaved in 2022 are a band in stellar form – a band at its most existentialist and self-conscious, proud Bergeners bearing the torch of their hometown’s extraordinary musical history. Their most recent material, their 2021 EP Caravans to the Outer Worlds, showed Enslaved at their most unleashed and thought-through – a lethal combination unfurling a potential that’s easily rekindling the furor of their early works while dancing gracefully through their most ambitious, most haunting and most musical tunes yet. A contradiction? Life itself is a contradiction. And yet we all live to prove it wrong.

Bay Area metal icons MACHINE HEAD have unleashed their incendiary 10th studio album, “ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN“, with the collection landing at DSPs and in stores via Nuclear Blast X Imperium Recordings. To commemorate release day, the band have revealed a brand new video for the album track, ‘NØ GØDS, NØ MASTERS‘, which you can watch below.

Speaking about the new track, MACHINE HEAD founder and visionary, Robb Flynn shares:
“We’re really proud of the video for ‘NØ GØDS, NØ MASTERS‘. It was an incredible collaboration between three different creative teams working across two different continents. Our director/editor Mike Sloat (Machine Head, Testament) teamed up with the amazing Grupa 13 (Behemoth, Amon Amarth) and then the stunning 3-D CGI came from Phil Radford AKA MayaGuy of Strangebox. The track was masterfully mixed by long-time Machine Head collaborator Colin Richardson and his engineer Chris Clancy. This is a really special song from the album.”

MACHINE HEAD’s new album, “ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN” is a 13-track concept album set in a decimated futuristic wasteland where the sky is stained crimson red. The crux of the story is based on two main characters:

Character #1 Ares: (pronounced Aries), our main, who loses the love of his life (Amethyst) and goes on a murderous rampage against the vile sect responsible for her murder.

Character #2 Eros: (pronounced Arrows) the perpetrator, who loses his mother to a drug overdose and becomes radicalized in the aftermath. Eros goes off the deep end manifesting his own killing spree.

The album’s lyrics detail how their lives intertwine.

The colossal concept album comes with a list of equally colossal packaging for various physical formats, including 16 different vinyl editions worldwide, a deluxe vinyl box set (with bonus tracks), CDs (both old-school longbox and jewel box options), multi-color cassettes, and a limited-edition Digipak with bonus tracks.

”Pazuzu” is a song originally written for another artist, but in lack of a positive answer on acceptance of the song, we decided to rewrite it for Therion instead. So stylewise it’s almost like a cover song on another artist – but still written by Therion.
The song contains some powerful guest vocals from Eclipse singer Erik Mårtensson, in my mind the “Blackie Lawless of AOR”, definately one of my fave singers from the last decade of new bands.”

With defiant determination rarely found in a metal band, THERION have always and exclusively done what they deemed right. Never did they stick to a successful formula, never did they release the same album twice, never did they give in to fickle friends like expectation, commercial aspects or trends.Which makes it all the more astounding that now, 35 years deep into their storied career, they actually do something every fan had hoped but never actually thought possible. Enter Leviathan, enter a trilogy focusing on all the trademark elements THERION are beloved by countless of metal fans around the globe. After the first part set hearts a flame in 2021, evoking goosebumps galore and reminiscing the glory days of the nineties, the symphonic metal grand-seigneurs continue their surprisingly fan-friendly path with their epic odyssey Leviathan II.

“We wanted to give fans what they want this time,” musical professor Christofer Johnsson informs us from his sunny new home on Gozo, Malta.

“We have been doing what we wanted for so long we just thought it fair to turn the tables just this once.” Turning 50, you might misinterpret a move like this with a certain mellowing of age. You couldn’t be more wrong, of course: Johnsson is still the musical frontiersman, looking for new challenges and hero’s journey under every stone he turns. However, after having finished the insanely sophisticated, elaborate triple album rock musical “Beloved Antichrist”, even a Christofer Johnsson felt he had reached a certain frontier here. “After‘ Beloved Antichrist’ I was lacking direction because I had done everything I ever wanted to do or achieve.” He sat down with lead vocalist Thomas Vikström to ponder their next move when it quickly dawned on them: “The only thing we never did was give the fans exactly what they wanted,” he grins drily.

Rivers of Nihil will be touring in support of their newest full-length, The Work, released last Fall on Metal Blade Records. Rivers of Nihil has never fit neatly into a box, but with 2018′s Where Owls Know My Name, they transcended all labels applied to them. Returning in 2021 with The Work, they’ve forged further into new territory, delivering an album that’s as cerebral as it is visceral, and that covers a staggering sonic range, definitively placing them in a category of their own. Inarguably a dense, heavy collection, The Work is far too dynamic to be considered a solely metal record and there is a genuine warmth that shows through, particularly tracks like “Wait” and the gorgeous “Maybe One Day.” Additionally, the band has incorporated far more clean vocals alongside the screaming that tears through many of the record’s heavier tracks. Courtesy of their friend Zach Strouse, saxophone once again adds extra layers of atmosphere to the collection, utilizing baritone, soprano, and alto saxes to great effect.

Danish old school death/ doom laden dark rockers EMPIRE DROWNS, has teamed up with Metal Shock Finland, to premiere their new lyric video ‘Purity’ for the Finnish territory.

EMPIRE DROWNS is finally ready with the release of their debut album following the 2013 EP “Bridges”.
The first song to be released from the upcoming record is ‘Purity’, a long and captivating dirge featuring all the trademarks that put Empire Drowns in the map of every doom/death metal fan ten years ago. Early nineties doom/death metal inspired by Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Anathema is beautifully performed by a band featuring members and ex-members from Withering Surface, A Sun Traverse, Saturnus and Urkraft.

Empire Drowns’ debut album will be released in the fall of 2022.

Danish rock band SILVER PHANTOM has teamed up with Metal Shock Finland, to premiere their new video ‘Black Lady’ for the Finnish territory.

On the first single to be known from their debut album, the Danish band takes the central stage with a song that mixes wildly the variety of styles that influences them and end up with a song that is as dramatic as catchy.
“‘Black Lady’ is a heavy-riffing track inspired by 90’s grunge and 80’s heavy rock choruses”, the band comments. “A track that is easy going and friendly to the rock ear. The lyrics speak of the “Black Lady”, an ambiguous shadow entity, who might be benevolent as a contrast to the light, and as such may act as a guide in the darkness“.
“This is our first single from the album in a more radio-friendly format, and a video clip that shows the band’s performance, wrapped up in a tongue-in-cheek intro and outro to celebrate the glory days of the VHS generation“.

Silver Phantom is a rock band that mixes a wide variety of subgenres to create a new, old- school vibe. The heavy riffing of hard rock and the raw energy of the punk scene from the ’70s meet the power of 80s metal. The sound is further infused with sing along choruses and the playful genre-bending of the ’90s and the ’00s power rock – all merged and combined with theatrical shock rock.
The lyrical universe is drawing its inspiration from dark and dreamy horror stories across mysticism and ancient legends to the movements of the heavens, and presents you with a powerfully blended cocktail to entertain your rock ’n’ roll soul!
Silver Phantom gives you a different take on what rock music sounds like when it’s a unique mix of heavy rock, punk rock and power rock – all merged and combined with theatrical shock rock.
The band emerged when co-founders singer/bassist Helgren and guitarist Madsen wanted to make some good, old-fashioned rock noise with a twist. After writing hooks, riffs and songs together for a few years they were ready to complete the lineup with drummer Kim Kvist and lead guitarist Mads Møller in 2019.
The debut album “Crimson Cabaret” was recorded and produced by Morten Madsen at Popshit Studio (Metal Cross, Mirage, etc) and mixed and mastered at Medley Studios by Danish rock legend Søren Andersen (Glenn Hughes, Electric Guitars, Marco Mendoza, Tygers Of Pan Tang and many more).
“Crimson Cabaret” will be released on digital, CD, and LP (black vinyl, limited to 300 units) via UPRISING! Records on October 28th, 2022.
