Norwegian progressive extreme metal icons ENSLAVED will issue their debut full-length, the now legendary “Vikingligr Veldi”, on vinyl for the first time ever. Set for release on September 23rd, 2016 via By Norse Music, the limited 2xLP gatefold edition includes a stunning new layout design by Z. Bielak (Ghost, Mayhem etc.) as well as four brand new illustrations specially made for this groundbreaking offering. Additionally, the record has been respectfully remastered for vinyl by Iver Sandøy preserving every bit of its original dynamics.
ENSLAVED‘s Vikingligr Veldi, initially released in 1994, was co-produced with the legendary Pytten (Immortal, Mayhem, Burzum, Emperor et al) in Grieghallen, Bergen, Norway. The album features lyrics in Icelandic, and is a tribute to the Norse landscape, history, and mythology. The songs match these themes with long, horizontal songscapes, dense atmospheres, and winds from the past.
“We have been waiting since the day we recorded it,” comments ENSLAVED‘s Ivar Bjørnson, “and at last it is happening! It has been a challenging journey, and it has demanded a lot of patience and understanding from all parts involved. The day we held the finished product in our hands was as sacred a day for us as the day we finished recording it.”
Vikingligr Velidi Lineup:
Ivar Bjørnson – guitars, keys
Grutle Kjellson – vocals, bass
Trym Torson – drums
After a fantastic three days of performances at By Norse in London, ENSLAVED 25 will continue around Europe to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the band. The more progressive minded set, ‘Spinning Wheel Ritual’ will be the focus of this tour:
‘Spinning Wheel Ritual’ is looking firmly to the future and the most recent chapter in Enslaved’s story. Their progressive nature will take centre stage, as more recent albums like ‘Vertebrae’, ‘RIITIIR’ and ‘In Times’ are placed together for the first time. The focus here will be a reimagining of sorts – the emphasis on the band being viewed in a new light, touching potential new audiences as well as those who have followed the band since the early days.
To help set the tone, Enslaved will be bringing one of the most exciting progressive metal artists out as special guest on this run: Australia’s Ne Obliviscaris. This band should need no introduction having gained widespread attention with 2014’s “Citadel” album and a festival run in 2015 that saw tents packed at Hellfest, Graspop, Resurrection and more.

Norwegian metal legends ENSLAVED will mark a genre-defining 25 years together with a special ‘Spinning Wheel Ritual’ show at the 12th Damnation Festival.
They will be joined by Californian powerviolence trio NAILS and Australian progressive death sextet NE OBLIVISCARIS at Leeds University Union on Saturday, November 5, 2016.
The event will also mark debut Damnation shows for Pennsylvanian grind outfit FULL OF HELL and critically acclaimed Texas prog rockers OCEANS OF SLUMBER.
“It is with great pride we announce our first ever appearance at Damnation. The festival has become a well-known name for bands, and now it is finally time for us to show its audience what we are about.
“We’re only just back from a magical weekend in London; London By Norse was nothing short of unbelievable! We hope to see those who attended, and many more, at Damnation Festival – our only UK appearance for the rest of 2016.
“Be there and let’s all be damned.”
Nails are also planning a brutal assault on Leeds. The band said:
“Damnation Festival is only one day, but it is all quality.
“Short and sweet – similar to our focus with Nails – this is why we feel attracted to the event and we’re proud and honored that Damnation Festival will mark first appearance on UK soil since the release of our new album, You Will Never Be One Of Us.”
Tickets for the 12th instalment of Damnation Festival are on sale now, priced £38.
Festival Director Gavin McInally said: “Since 2005, we’ve consistently delivered solid and diverse line-ups which make a mockery of our ticket price and this year we want to go one further by booking challenging bills across our four stages, starting with five bands who’ve never played Damnation Festival before.
“Enslaved, Nails, Ne Obliviscaris, Full of Hell and Oceans of Slumber are the first taste of what’s to come in 2016, from hateful grind to hauntingly melodic prog, and fans can expect much more over the coming months, with 22 bands still to be announced.”
London based Progressive Melodic Death Metallers DE PROFUNDIS will be celebrating the imminent release of their new album, “Kingdom Of The Blind”, unleashed through Wicker Man Recordings on September 28th, with a very special London show.

Speaking about the show DE PROFUNDIS had this to say:
“De Profundis are really proud to be playing with Enslaved and Grand Magus next Thursday in London. Enslaved’s progressive approach to black metal has always been a huge influence on the band’s song writing. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the approach of our forthcoming album, Kingdom of the Blind.”
