ANGMODNES Unleash Brand New Single ‘Under Darkened Vaults’

Utrecht, Netherlands -based funeral doom metallers ANGMODNES will issue their highly anticipated new album, entitled “The Weight of Eternity”, on September 30th via Black Lion Records.

“The Weight of Eternity” is Angmodnes’ first offering; an album in the works since 2013 and finally completed in 2022. Within its 36 minutes and 21-second runtime, it paints an utterly bleak and hopeless picture of one damned to live on forever, after everything and everyone has long since passed away. The doom laid upon this wretched soul can be seen metaphorically, as those who have lost any sense of attachment to this world and who are so far removed from life as to scarcely be able to think about anything other than death, are they not just as alone?

In support of the new album, Angmodnes have just unleashed “Under Darkened Vaults”, the first single from the upcoming full-length, which is nothing less than an almost 15-minute massive journey into the deepest spheres of funeral doom! The track comes along with a brand new lyric video, streaming here:

The band comments:

Under Darkened Vaults is a redacted excerpt from a text by the Romanian writer Emil Cioran. It is about ways in which those who are so far removed from life have learned to hide from its tireless oppressive pointlessness. For those who suffer from extreme existential despair it can become tempting to develop a morbid devotion to one’s despondency.

“The Weight of Eternity” offers three captivating tracks and is highly recommended for fans of Evoken, Frowning, Shape Of Despair and AHAB. The album is available for pre-order HERE

Tracklist:

  1. Weight Of Eternity
  2. Hollow Earth
  3. Under Darkened Vaults

Angmodnes are:
Y.S. – Compositions, guitars, bass, vocals, recording, mixing & mastering
M.V. – Drums
F.S. – Vocals

Canadian melodic metallers BOREALIS have announced the release of their fifth studio album, entitled “Illusions”, which will be out on October 7, 2022 via AFM Records!

With their critically acclaimed debut in 2008, BOREALIS took the heavy music scene by storm, and seen them opening for several metal greats such as Epica, Sonata Artica, Saxon or Kamelot to name just a few. Four years since 2018’s “The Offering”, BOREALIS returns with their brand new magnum opus, arguably marking the bands most complete album to date while adding more orchestral elements and darker themes. The album not only introduces composer and multi-instrumentalist Vikram Shankar (Silent Skies, Redemption, Lux Terminus), who was brought in to compose all of the orchestra and synth elements, but “Illusions” is also a continuation of the story from “The Offering”, taking place years later through the eyes of the children and how the traumatic events they experienced has shaped their lives.

“We are so excited to release this new record, considering how long it’s been and what the world has been through over the last 2 years!“ Singer and guitarist Matt Marinelli comments. “With the extra time we had with this one, we feel like these are some of the best songs we’ve ever written. Some of the songs were written way back in 2019 so we’ve had time to really perfect them.”

Today, BOREALIS shared a lyric video for first album single “Pray For Water”! “We wanted a textbook Borealis song on the album, something where, as soon as you hear it you know it’s us,” Matt says. “Using the continuation from The Offering (2018), this album is about the surviving children and how they’re coping years later. This song in particular is about one of them praying for the sacrifice to be stopped.“

About the band’s sound development and their cooperation with Vikram, guitarist Ken Fobert explains: “We had been fans of Vik’s music and content for years and with this album, we really wanted to bring it to another level. We didn’t want to do the same old thing this time around with just adding strings and orchestra. We did do that, but we also wanted to incorporate more synth elements and weird futuristic sounds to give these songs a bit of a different vibe and character than what you would typically expect from us. I think with the phenomenal composing that Vik did for these songs, we were able to achieve that.”

“Illusions” was produced by BOREALIS, engineered and mixed by the band‘s drummer, Sean Dowell, and was mastered by Thomas “Plec “ Johansson. Slated for a release on October 7th, the album pre-sale is now available at THIS LOCATION!

“Illusions” track listing:

  1. Illusions feat. Christine Hals
  2. Ashes Turn To Rain
  3. My Fortress
  4. Pray For Water
  5. Burning Tears feat. Lynsey Ward
  6. Believer
  7. Light Of The Sun
  8. Face Of Reality
  9. Bury Me Alive
  10. Abandon All Hope
  11. The Phantom Silence

GHOST IN THE MACHINE Release New Maxi-Single ‘Muevete’

Muevete, US rocktronica project GHOST IN THE MACHINE, is a world fusion of EDM and rock shaped by a Spanish influence. Inspired by nightlife and Flamenco of southern Spain, acoustic guitars play dark and tense passages over heavy bass and a solid beat. Rock, electronic and industrial elements intermingle creating the atmosphere. Vocalists C4 and Caela play off each other singing themes of dancing, festival, freedom, expression, celebration and enjoying life to the fullest.

The single includes 2 remixes from genius DJ/producer Erik Lee. Virus (Erik Lee Remix) is eerie tech-house with drone filtered synths that eventually devour the song. A musical expression of the pandemic invoking overwhelming feelings of frustration and fear. Rodeo (Erik Lee Remix) exudes attitude with a pushing groovy beat and moody synths under crunchy guitars. It also features seductive guest vocals of Caela.

The Muevete single is accompanied by a music video and is set in those Spanish quarter streets where things go bump in the night and shadowy figures lurk down dark alley ways. During a fiesta, strangers meet and live life to the fullest. In that madness, could they find a special connection?

Track list:
01. Muevete | 02. Virus (Erik Lee Remix) | 03. Rodeo (Erik Lee Remix)

Following the recent news that AUTOPSY will be soon serving up a new slice of supreme sickness, in the form of their long-awaited new studio album ‘Morbidity Triumphant’ on 30 September, the band have revealed the first track in the form of the darkly sickening, creepily menacingly delicious “Skin By Skin” lyric video created by Matthew Vickerstaff (IG @Matthew_Vickerstaff  / FB @Matthew Vickerstaff).

“Here’s one to crawl under your skin and rot you from the inside out. Eric Cutler has a knack for writing riffs that creep even us, the band out and this song is a perfect example of that. Get ready to feel uncomfortable, foam at the mouth and bang your fiendish head at the same time!” – Chris Reifert

“Skin By Skin” is now available as a digital single on all streaming platforms. Pre-order the album here.

EPICA, New Music Coming Winter 2022 – “Not your typical Epica album”, Says Front Woman Simone Simons

Posted by tarjavirmakari on August 20, 2022

Jimmy Kay and Perrin Wolfson from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently interviewed Epica‘s Lead singer Simone Simons. She talks about the band celebrating their 20 year anniversary with the release of “Live At Paradiso” (Sept 2) as well as re-issues their first three (“The Phantom Agony”, “Consign To Oblivion” and “The Score”), albums and  the Livestream show on  September 3, 2022.

In the chat Simmons also gives a quick update on the band’s upcoming studio album and talks about her favorite movies.

Tell us why the “Live At Paradiso” is being released now as it was recorded back in 2006
“It was buried very very deep in a lot of paperwork and we had to figure all of that out so after digging our way through the paperwork and legal stuff we got our hands on this recording. Back in the day when we recorded the  DVD we also had the book which oh I should have mentioned. But the show was never released and of course time went by. We had a switch of record companies and we’ve been just so super super busy that we kind of  lost track and weren’t in the mood to dig through all the paperwork that was necessary in order to retrieve it. Also the footage itself was never finalized, so it was basically lying in a box somewhere in the attic and waiting to be used. We actually did have to process the whole footage that we had in order to make it uh you know watchable.  It’s vintage Epica, it’s a little treasure. We always do our very best to wrap it extra nicely with the artwork and everything.  We are trying to draw the people into the Epica universe and in the background you see the artwork of all the other albums integrated into it to make it a nice little Epic package.”

Tell us about the upcoming live stream event on Sept 3 and the setlist
“The Setlist is a little bit of a mixture, yeah definitely we have of course the latest album Omega which we never gotten  a real chance to promote due to the pandemic but of course we are going to go through all the years of all the albums. So definitely some rare tracks and some visually  pleasing  guest appearances.  I guess yeah, it’s going to be an epic show. The Livestream show is with a live crowd, it’s an actual show and around 3 000 people will be there and it’s sold out but you can also watch the Livestream.”

Tell us if you have any new music coming or a new album in the works
“We have new music that will be released later this year and it’s not your typical Epica album. It’s something we’ve never done before, so definitely  worth the anticipation . It will be released I think in early winter or something like that, let’s say early winter(2022). If it comes earlier than that it’s always better. We’re working on the artwork at the moment, we have the  singles ready, I already shot a video for one of the songs so yeah it’s some new music. It’s a busy year for Epica. We’ve been busy during the pandemic with non-touring things and working behind the scenes on this. We like to call it  the Secret Project. We have an online fan community which is called ‘Epic Universe’ and there we have been already spoiling a little bit of what the secret project is about so if people are curious they’re welcome to join Epic Universe.  On the Epic Universe the fan club we’ve been posing a little bit behind the scenes things and you can hear like choir bits and pieces and orchestration.

When asked is there are still comparisons between Epica and Nightwish today
“For people that are not familiar with metal music they are often compared to each other and there are definitely some similarities. I think Epica is, Epic Metal or I would call it Cinematic Metal. It’s very different to Nightwish because Nightwish also changed their style a little bit their style on the last two albums. Epica has also been working since day one on our own unique style and with each new band member that came, a new songwriter also contributed to the sound of Epica. So we have we have basically five songwriters within the band  that creates Epica.”
