Acclaimed rock/metal guitarist Jim Matheos (Fates Warning, Arch / Matheos) has joined with powerhouse rock vocalist Steve Overland (FM) to create the new group KINGS OF MERCIA. Accompanying the duo on the upcoming debut album are Matheos’ Fates Warning bandmate Joey Vera on bass, and legendary drummer Simon Philips. The self-titled album will be released on September 23rd, 2022 via Metal Blade Records and is now available for pre-order: metalblade.com/kingsofmercia

Today, Kings of Mercia are pleased to share the first single “Wrecking Ball”. Watch the visualizer for the single here:

Jim Matheos had this to say about the song: “Wrecking Ball was the first song I wrote for what would become Kings of Mercia, it’s also the opening track on the album. I didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted to do musically but this one came together very quickly and naturally without too much forethought. The combination of simple but heavy riffs along with Steve’s powerful vocals sets the tone and mood for the rest of the record.“

Steve Overland on the track: “Wrecking ball is a great introductory track for what Kings of Mercia are all about, and a great taster for what to expect from the rest of the album. A powerful hard hitting, anthemic rock track, with melody and great individual performances from all the band.“

TRACKLIST:
01. Wrecking Ball
02. Humankind
03. Sweet Revenge
04. Set the World on Fire
05. Too Far Gone
06. Liberate Me
07. Nowhere Man
08. Everyday Angels
09. Is It Right?
10. Your Life

The album is available on CD, LP, and digital formats. Pre-order here: metalblade.com/kingsofmercia

Best known as the founding guitarist for Fates Warning, but with countless other projects under his belt – including Arch / Matheos and most recently Tuesday The Sky – Jim Matheos is incapable of stifling his creativity. In early 2021, he started working on the songs that would become Kings Of Mercia‘s self-titled debut album, bringing his distinct style yet doing something a little different. “I started writing without any real idea of what direction I wanted to go in or what I was going to do with the material. The first few songs came together quickly and were a bit more straightforward than I’m used to, and I really liked that idea, kind of going back to my early heavy/hard rock roots.” Not having any pre-conceived ideas of what the record should or would end up sounding like, at least early on, certainly helped, “as did the fact that it’s our first record, so there was nothing to measure it against or expectations to live up to, even if only in my own head.”

Churning out songs, Matheos’ next concern was to find the musicians who would help him realize the material, and his first priority was a vocalist. It was his friend Jeff Wagner who suggested FM‘s Steve Overland, and another friend, rock journalist Dave Ling, who put them in touch with each other. “Jim had asked Dave for my contact details, we talked about his idea for mixing the two styles, his heavier background, with my melodic/bluesier direction,” says Overland. “We decided to try a collaboration on one song and see how it worked, we came up with the track “Humankind”, and we both loved it.” Having already settled on this hard rock direction, it was only once Matheos got the first couple of songs back from Overland that it became all the way clear of the shape the record would take, with the vocalist sending over his parts every few weeks, everything gradually coming together.

Behind the kit for the record is the legendary Simon Phillips (ex-Toto, Derek Sherinian), one of Matheos’ favorite drummers. “I decided to contact him on a whim, not really expecting that he’d be available or interested in this project. But, to my surprise, he liked the music and was able to fit some recording into his schedule. It’s an honor to share a credit with him and I couldn’t be happier with what he added to the record.” Rounding out the group is bassist Joey Vera – Matheos’ Fates Warning bandmate – who brings his trademark style and professionalism to the table. “My old friend and co-worker Joey Vera was a natural choice for bass. Not only did I know he would deliver performance-wise, but it was nice to have a familiar face among the new personalities.” With these players involved it was an easy, stress-free process throughout, making music for the love of it, and coming up with something that sounds familiar yet new, expanding the repertoire of all involved. This means songs like the half-acoustic ballad, half-swaggering “Too Far Gone” or the beautiful “Everyday Angels”, and the soaring “Wrecking Ball”, which opens the record on a high note, all brought to life in dynamic style.

Jim Matheos – Guitars
Steve Overland – Vocals
Joey Vera – Bass

Following their latest, critically acclaimed studio album, The Last Viking (2020, AFM Records), symphonic metal masters LEAVES‘ EYES decided to start an upcoming throwback-series while digging deeper into their back catalogue treasury. As a first jewel, the band just recently presented a stunning acoustic version of the LEAVES‘ EYES classic and 2015-album title track “King Of Kings“ which was originally recorded with former vocalist Liv Kristine (Listen to the track HERE!). Now, the five-piece has shared another beautiful pearl, a piano version of “Dark Love Empress”!

Says vocalist Elina Siirala: “Dark Love Empress is one of my favourite songs to play live! It’s such a dynamic song with powerful lyrics and this combination gave a perfect canvas for creating a more delicate version of it. It felt very natural to play the piano arrangement as the song gives me so many visual images alongside the musical inspiration. This piano version brings out a whole different side of the song also vocally and that’s one of the reasons I love making acoustic versions of our songs.”

Stream the piano version of “Dark Love Empress” HERE!

LEAVES‘ EYES were formed in 2003 and released eight incredibly successful studio albums, nine EPs, various singles, one live album, several DVDs as well as a Blu Ray, and belongs to the spearheads of their genre. Their latest record, The Last Viking, was released in 2020 via AFM Records. Watch out for many more song jewels to follow!

Formed more than three decades ago in 1989 only to fall into a slumbering hibernation lasting until last year, cult-followed Swedish hard rock outfit NESTOR decided to reunite, reinvent the iconography of rock and restore its glory in 2021 with their debut album – yes, their debut album – Kids in a ghost town. With friendship as the foundation of this unique, seemingly unbreakable bond, NESTOR are back for good and better than ever!

Today, NESTOR reveals a new rendition of their song “It Ain’t Me”, off their acclaimed debut album. In this stripped down acoustic version, the band shows that they are a jack of all trades, able to transform their beloved old-school hard rock into timeless and heartfelt adaptations.

NESTOR states:
“’It Ain’t Me’ is all about unanswered love. In the end the love you make is equal to the love you take!”

NESTOR embraces influence from the 80s with a sense of nostalgia and authenticity. With glossy production, NESTOR takes you straight back to the golden age of rock music, openly displaying their influences – from Bon Jovi and Aerosmith to Journey and Foreigner. With over 30 years of existence, NESTOR turn back time while being one of the hottest newcomers of modern rock music, with millions of streams on Spotify and hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube to boot, even having shared stages with the almighty ALICE COOPER, hard rock powerhouse H.E.A.T. and supporting the legendary KISS in Stockholm on their 2022 stadium tour!

Upon its initial release, NESTOR’s acclaimed first album, Kids in a ghost town, sent their fans on a journey back in time to the 80s, both in sound and spirit, as well as with their completely self-produced music videos – all of which spurred a nomination for a Swedish Hard Rock/Metal Grammis-Award! This is an album of such impressive scale in fact, that Napalm Records has decided to re-release Kids in a ghost town as an exclusive Deluxe Edition, set for release on September 30, 2022!

NESTOR Singer Tobias Gustavsson about the re-release of Kids in a ghost town:
“The ambition with the re-release of the album is to extend and deepen the story of NESTOR. By adding three new songs, we’re letting the listener once again go back in time and remember how it used to be in the late 80s!”

All-Stars FIGURE OF SPEECHLESS Release New Single ‘Inside Room 6’

Heading for the album release of “Tunnel At The End Of Light” and shortly after the Janus-faced single “Day And Night”, FIGURE OF SPEECHLESS are back with a surprisingly sinister theme for their brand spanking new video single “Inside Room 6”. Starting off on an eerie tune to gloom the listener’s perception somewhat for a brief moment, the song quickly takes a turn towards a realm of madness, heralded by a startling, isolated riff that cuts through the veil like a whip through thick air.

The following pendulum-like swinging back and forth between the extremes of internalization and outburst can best be described in the words of the mastermind himself: “When I wrote this song, it must have been a manic sort of week if the music is anything to go by. I was a little concerned about being able to write lyrics for this song, but they ended up being about a person who lives in a mental asylum (in Room 6). They take a crazy journey out of body and visit lots of places outside the asylum. After seeing how messed up the world is – they decide they’re better off back in the asylum but are a bit surprised when they find someone else there in Room 6…”

And since the underlying story arc of the whole album is carried by the topic of searching for – if not outright making of – one’s very own way throughout life, the unconventional approach to composing the visuals for the new single seems strikingly coherent, too: a thoughtfully crafted entanglement of lyrics and a narrative music video.

Figure Of Speechless’ second single “Inside Room 6” is available now on all streaming platforms via SAOL, the accompanying music video is live on YouTube. The full-length album titled “Tunnel At The End Of The Light” is coming on September 2nd 2022, please find the pre-save of your choice here.

Glen McMaster, a versatile Australian songwriter and guitar player, took the heartbreaking lack of cultural, and of human interaction during Covidian times, and transformed it into a piece of art by writing and producing songs for what is already turning out to be one of the most promising allstar-projects in recent metal history: Besides Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Alice Cooper, Yngwie Malmsteen, Billy Idol), who joined the writing process in early 2021, Figure Of Speechless consists of high-profile names such as Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Guns N’Roses, Sons of Apollo), Ray Alder (Fates Warning, Redemption), Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder) and Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Billy Idol, Foreigner, Ozzy Osbourne).

The result of a year’s work and intercontinental collaboration is a timeless yet refreshing album: “Tunnel At The End Of The Light” will be released worldwide on September 2nd 2022.

While curating the allstar-piece, McMaster fulfilled a need many have been feeling after months and months of isolation: to bring people from all over the world together to cherish the beauty of art and music. Glen McMaster, the man behind the concept, describes the collective’s sound as an “infusion of five decades of progressive music” – all emerging into a powerhouse of nostalgia and influences from across music history. Listening closely, fans will discover musical elements from unexpected time depths and traditions ranging from Beethoven and Django Reinhardt to Rush and Dream Theater. The credo of unity doesn’t stop at the project’s members – this thing has the power to reach far beyond, and will without a doubt land the top lists of the year.

Watch Joanne performing “Summertime” (Live) with Joe Bonamassa HERE.

Joanne will perform songs from her latest critically acclaimed album The Blues Album which topped Billboard Magazine’s Official Blues Album Chart. The album was also voted #1 Most Played Blues Album of 2021 by the Independent Blues Broadcaster’s Association. Joanne will also dig deep into her rich back catalogue where she will hand-pick songs from her albums Reckless Heart, Wild,The Dirty Truth, Almost Always Never, Diamonds in the Dirt, and White Sugar.

Over the past two decades, Joanne has proven herself as a prolific songwriter, releasing seven acclaimed albums under her belt, each increasingly more successful with her 2019 album Reckless Heart breaking into the UK Top 20 Album Chart and cementing herself as one of the most important guitar exports in British blues-rock.

In 2021, Joanne recorded her seventh studio album The Blues Album, produced by Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith at Oceanway Recording Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. The album was released on Bonamassa’s independent record label KTBA Records on September 24, 2021. The album topped the Billboard Official Blues Chart. The album received across-the-board rave reviews worldwide.

The album features Joanne’s personalised covers of 11 rare blues classics immortalised by Albert King, Peter Green, Little Richard, Magic Sam, Aretha Franklin, Little Milton, and many more.

“I’d known from the beginning of my recording career that one day I wanted to record an album of blues covers, I just wasn’t sure when the right time to do that would be,” says Joanne. “I’ve always found it far easier to write my own material than come up with creative ways to make other artists’ material my own.”

When the pandemic put the brakes on from musicians from touring during 2020 and 2021, Joanne thought it was the right time to head into the studio to record The Blues Album.

“We wanted to make a tough vocal centric straight blues record that showcased Joanne’s amazing talent but in a slightly different light,” explains Bonamassa. “Josh and I tested Joanne’s limits and pushed boundaries.”

On June 10, 2022, Joanne released the live album and concert film Blues From The Heart Live. Filmed and recorded at The Franklin Theatre in Franklin, Tennessee, the special concert film, and album includes sixteen tracks and features incredible guest performances from Mike Farris, and Joe Bonamassa, plus aspecial guest performance from Kenny Wayne Shepherd. The album topped Billboard Magazine’s Official Blues Chart.
