Austin-based rockers FIRE FROM THE GODS have dropped their fierce new single “Soul Revolution” and premiered an official lyric video via Better Noise Music. The band masterfully blends feelings of inspiration and aggression with soul searching in the song. Lead singer AJ Channer sings “Life can beat you to the fucking ground, You gotta get mad and you gotta fight back” and asks listeners to “Change your heart, change your mind, change your soul” for a soul revolution. After touring Europe, hitting countries such as Germany and France, the band will be joining Five Finger Death Punch, Megadeth, and The HU on tour this summer, trekking across North America. They will be performing “Soul Revolution” and “SOS,” with the latter being released last month to critical praise from Loudwire, that reads “Fire From The Gods have captured that feeling of drowning in unease on their latest track, “SOS,” which is a blend of soaring, anthemic rock and rap with a little reggae flavor.” A full list of upcoming tour dates is below. Stream “Soul Revolution” and watch the official lyric video HERE. For tickets and additional information visit https://www.firefromthegods.com/.
Channer explained the inspiration behind the deeply meaningful lyrics, stating, “Over our last two tours in the states and Europe, I’ve noticed a different look in the audience’s eyes. It seems to me that we desperately need a change and are on the brink of a revolution, not in the violent sense but a restructuring of ideals, realigning our hearts and minds. I believe the real revolution begins in the soul. This song is our battle cry, our call to unite.” Teasing the band’s next album, the lead singer said, “We’re excited for fans to hear our new music and can’t wait to share more soon. This is just a taste of what’s to come.”
Fire From The Gods will be heading back out on tour with Five Finger Death Punch, Megadeth, and The HU later this summer. Kicking off in Portland, Oregon on August 19, the tour will span over 30 dates, ending in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 15. See below for a full list of dates. Purchase tickets HERE.
The band’s last album American Sun received positive reviews after its release in 2019 and soon after dropped American Sun (Reimagined). The LP served as a reflective statement from the band who typically calls for unity in their music, after they were inspired to take a new approach to their art by current events.

Southern California psychedelic/progressive rock unit, BIRTH, releases its full-length debut LP, ‘Born‘, today via UK rock label Bad Omen Records (Wytch Hazel, Spell, Satan’s Satyrs). Featuring members of San Diego’s revered retro rockers Astra, along with current or former members of Joy, Radio Moscow, and Sacri Monti, Birth owns a cavernous cache of credibility rarely found in developing musical groups. Described as “a magic-eye journey into kaleidoscopic sound“, and “a dystopian take on the here and now“, ‘Born‘ is available for purchase at: birthprog.bandcamp.com
A taste as to what Birth‘s ‘Born‘ holds in store can be experienced now as the band is streaming the LP in its entirety; hear it now at: birthprog.bandcamp.com/album/born
In celebration of the record’s release, Birth will perform a free show on Friday, July 22 at the Booze Brothers Brewing Company in Vista, California. For full details, visit the Facebook event page at: facebook.com
Featuring guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Conor Riley and lead guitarist Brian Ellis, musicians who burst onto the prog-psych scene in the late aughts with Astra, a formidable, foundational group hailed as “prog goliaths” (AllMusic), who would shape the sound of things to come alongside co-conspirators such as Earthless, Diagonal and Dungen, and whose albums ‘The Weirding‘ (2009) and ‘The Black Chord‘ (2012) stand proud as two of the greatest progressive achievements of this century thus far, there is a palatable excitement surrounding Birth and the group has been pegged as one to watch in underground circles, an excitement which kicked into a new gear once a now-deleted demo ep was unleashed, on a pay-what-you-will basis, on the Bandcamp platform in 2021, which marked the spark of creation for the Birth universe and delivered a blast of vibrant progressive rock rich in cinematic scope and psychedelic intensity and laid the groundwork for what was to come.
“Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first break through, and pour a torrent of light into our dark world” . So wrote Mary Shelley in Frankenstein, arguably the first science fiction tale. A full 204 years later, the quest remains – how best to elucidate our daily lives with some form of inspiration that moves the spirit beyond its earthly shackles? On ‘Born‘, Birth musically and creatively constructs a science-fiction-inspired sound-world in which bleak tumult and skybound rapture co-exist. The result is an intoxicating album haunted by earthly concerns while its sonics aim simultaneously for the stars.
“I’m a scientist by trade and I read a lot of dystopian sci-fi, which I believe is relevant to many of the events that have been occurring lately,” notes Riley. “These views feed a dark, spiritual and mystical relationship that I have with scientific thought“.

Pain Is Forever And This Is The End, the anticipated new full-length from German metal duo MANTAR, is out now on Metal Blade Records.
Earning critical accolades both stateside and abroad, Decibel Magazine hails a, “burning Molotov cocktail of black metal, sludgy hardcore, and classic metal hooks,” adding, “their latest studio album may be their best yet.” Rock Hard writes, “Pain Is Forever… skillfully keeps the balance between brute destructive fury and dense atmosphere in widescreen format with real underground hit potential,” while Metal Injection champions the band’s, “thicker grooves, anthemic refrains, head nodding rhythms and a greater exploitation of the fist-in-the-air-ology school of songwriting.”
In celebration of the release of Pain Is Forever And This Is The End, today MANTAR unleashes a new video for “Grim Reaping.” Offers guitarist/vocalist Hanno Klänhardt of the track, “‘Grim Reaping’ is about the simple insight that you cannot win life. No matter what you do, what you try… death remains the great unifier. And in death we will be genuine and pure.“
View MANTAR‘s previously released video for “Odysseus” HERE and “Hang ‘Em Low (So The Rats Can Get ‘Em)” HERE.
The most diverse and multifaceted MANTAR album to date, with their latest offering, guitarist/vocalist Hanno Klänhardt and drummer Erinc Sakarya take things to an entirely new level. Songs boast more melody and an array of guitar tones, influenced in no small part by the artists the pair covered on 2020’s Grungetown Hooligans II collection which featured MANTAR interpretations of songs from the likes of L7, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, and The Jesus Lizard, formative bands from their respective youths. “I tried to tweak the guitar sound more according to each individual song and its respective mood,” notes Hanno on the songwriting approach to Pain Is Forever And This Is The End. “We tried to steer away from ‘metal sound’ standards and more in a direction where you can hear different nuances in sound. I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but we never were a part of any scene, therefore we don’t ‘owe’ a certain sound to anyone.” Hanno even sings on occasion, “instead of only screaming like a maniac.“
Lyrically, tracks delve deep, pondering a variety of uncomfortable questions about mortality, spirituality, and the illusion of “belonging” in a world that’s unraveling and growing more disjointed by the day. “People desperately cling to anything that promises you or at least makes you believe that you ‘matter’ in some way,” notes Hanno, “that you are the master of the situation and that everything behaves as your own logic allows. We live in an interesting time where people have an unspeakable longing to find easy explanations to complex questions.“
Pain Is Forever And This Is The End is available on CD, LP, and digital formats. Preview and purchase the record at: metalblade.com/mantar
Founded in 2012, MANTAR stands among the leading forces in extreme metal within the last ten years. Loved by fans and press alike, the band took the world by storm with their truly unique sound, leading them to the Top 10 in the official German album charts with their 2018’s The Modern Art Of Setting Ablaze and sold out shows throughout Europe.
Pain Is Forever And This Is The End serves as MANTAR‘s most realized output yet. With Hanno prolifically writing riffs at his home in Gainesville, Florida – and throwing away whole albums worth of material – and Erinc working in Germany, the record’s creation proved to be a painstaking effort. “Nothing came together easily for this album and I hated most of the process,” Hanno states plainly. “Even though Covid had not much of an impact on us, the general fucked up mood in the world and the industry had an impact on the record. Everything was very tedious, up to a point where I literally questioned everything and we were damn close to quitting the band. With every song I came up with, there was a period at some point where I thought it sucked. Then I had moments where I thought it’s the best we have ever done. It was bipolar in a way. It was rough and it took a serious toll on me and Erinc that I’m still recovering from.”
After recording their instruments on different continents, Hanno and Erinc entered the studio together in Germany to record vocals and backing vocals, respectively, and decided to take a different, more daring route in terms of production: “With the previous albums, I was so focused on making the band sound exactly as we would sound live. That is cool and still important but this time I wanted to make an album that is overall entertaining and not just a forty-five-minute ‘live set.’ We’ve proved countless times that we have no problems at all convincing in a live setting, so I had to gather some courage to ‘produce’ a little more, mostly in order to entertain myself as the songwriter and producer. Still, there were times where I literally wanted to destroy all my music and myself while making this record and I destroyed a lot of equipment. Maybe it was all worth something,” Hanno concludes. “We are still here, and that really does mean something after that ride.“

Los Angeles symphonic prog metallers ANTHEA will be releasing their sophomore album “Tales Untold” via Rockshots Records this coming August to follow their 2020 debut “Illusion”. Last month they unveiled their first single and title track with a music video (watch here). Today, they share their second single “Empyrean” with a new music video that can be viewed below.
The band adds about the track: “One of the heavier songs on the album, Empyrean is an inspirational piece about overcoming the obstacles in your path and making your dreams come true. Something that we ourselves relate to from playing in the backyards of East LA and Compton as teenagers, to what Anthea has become and where we’re going.”
For the new album “Tales Untold”, Anthea has taken the reigns for a more DIY approach with vocalist Diego Valadez taking over also as the full-length’s producer along with bassist Eric “EJ” Guerrero in charge of music videos and photography. “We released our debut album in 2020, but were, unfortunately, like everyone else, unable to tour or play live gigs. However, this gave us a lot of extra time to really craft this follow-up album into something special. Tales Untold was written and recorded throughout 2021 and I am so proud of the end result.” adds Valadez.
Fans of Anthea‘s first album “Illusion” will enjoy this one even more. The difference with this next record is that Anthea has a more mature sound and has carefully thought out the ebb and flow throughout it. Their end goal is to give a very dynamic and cinematic album in which the listener feels as though they’ve gone through a grand musical journey once they’ve reached the end. Anthea is a melodic, symphonic metal band from Los Angeles, CA. With influences from bands like Nightwish, Kamelot, and Wintersun, as well as scores from composers such as Hans Zimmer, John Williams, and Danny Elfman, the band create a unique theatrical sound blending progressive, power, and thrash metal elements, with a grand, cinematic edge.
