TALAS Announce New Album “1985”, Out September 23rd

TALAS are back with the release of their new album 1985, which will see a September 23, 2022 release via Metal Blade Records. Fans can preorder the album and check out the new single “Crystal Clear” at: metalblade.com/talas

Formed in the early 70s and dissolved in 1985, TALAS may have never reached arena-headlining status but they were an integral part of the early 80s hard rock scene, and their long awaited return does not disappoint. “The time was right and we were all into it, no one needed any convincing, we were all instantly excited to do it,” explains bassist Billy Sheehan, who is rejoined by drummer Mark Miller and powerhouse vocalist Phil Naro, as well as new recruit Kire Najdovski on guitar. “It’s like we never stopped – everything fell together so easily. It was quite wonderful.” Now they return with 1985, 11 tracks of classic hard rock, picking up where they left off, and it is a release that will have old school fans salivating and new followers fired up with its big riffs, seductive choruses and killer soloing – basically everything that could be wanted from a TALAS record.

Asked why people should be excited for this comeback, Sheehan answers enthusiastically. “Because so many of them were there, with us, and a million other great bands that made the 80s such a special musical experience. And also there are so many who might not have been there but have fallen in love with that spirit as well. We feel a very special bond with them all.“

With all but one song – “Black And Blue” – written in 1985, the album would have been their fourth full-length had they not split, and while they have worked hard to get the best out of them they have not tampered with the tracks or given them a modern twist, letting them live in the era in which they were created. “We wanted a snapshot of our musical life from 1985,” explains Sheehan. “It’s the same spirit, mostly the same people, and it’s bringing the 80s into 2022. The 80s were an amazing time for music and bands, and we were all excited to go back to that, and I would say the record is raw, real, honest, and exhilarating.”

The album was recorded in Miller’s living room in the house he built, utilizing a mobile recording setup, and according to Sheehan the sessions were “an absolute joy.” Coordinating everything remotely during the pandemic – with Russ Mackay handling the engineering/mixing/mastering from Toronto – was the hardest aspect of recording, but they managed to pull it all together, making a record that sounds cohesive from start to finish, giving no suggestion that it was anything but a smooth process. As well as Mitch Perry’s guest appearance the band also invited Naro’s son, James, to appear on the record, who “sang some harmonies – like father, like son, he sounded really great.” There are hopes to tour the record, though sadly, after a long battle with cancer, Naro passed in 2021, but thankfully he recorded all of his parts prior to his death, and 1985 stands as a great epitaph to a great vocalist.

The legendary Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister, founder of Motörhead and Grammy Award winning cultural icon, has had a portion of his ashes enshrined at this year’s Hellfest Festival in Clisson, France within a new, giant statue of the man, and the official ceremony to recognize this unique memorialization will occur tomorrow, on June 23, 2022. With band mates Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee present, it is the perfect moment to honor Lemmy’s life. After the Scorpions close the show, band mates Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee will say a few words, a tribute video to Lemmy will play and Phil and Mikkey will raise a toast to the immortal and eternally popular Kilmister at the monument itself. The ceremony formally recognizes Lemmy’s love of both the road and the fans, which is where he always felt most comfortable.

Hellfest was one of Lemmy’s favorite festivals (Motörhead played the first ever Hellfest and were staples of the festival ever since), and the band have always had a tremendous bond with their French rock’n’roll family. It is therefore fitting that Lemmy will forever be present at the site, with fans able to congregate and pay their respects to him at every Hellfest from here on out. This ceremony will also give fans an opportunity to participate in their own memorialization of Lemmy and see a miniature replica of the custom urn that houses Lemmy’s ashes at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood California.

For fans that wish to share their own tributes, memories, experiences or pay their respects, can post using the hashtag #LemmyLivesAtHellfest.

All Hail (the immortal legend) Lemmy!

ALESTORM Release Title Track from Upcoming Album “Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum”

Infamous pirate metal gang ALESTORM set sail on a new voyage with their seventh studio album, Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum, out this Friday! Today, the band reveals the fourth single and official music video for the title track, “Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum” – a real throwback to the early days of Captain Morgan’s Revenge telling the heroic story of a war on the seven seas!

The new video shows the band in 70s style – bell-bottoms, groovy sunglasses and fringed shirts included. Don’t miss out on this!

ALESTORM spent two years during lockdown going insane and frantically dredging up the craziest pirate metal anthems from their treasure chest of ideas, and have created the most epic and serious (yes, serious) sounding ALESTORM album you’ve ever heard. From the symphonic choir-powered “Magellan’s Expedition” to the rousing anthem “Under Blackened Banners” featuring intense technical riffing and exquisite solo duels, Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum is a real throwback to the early days of Captain Morgan’s Revenge. But fans of the modern ALESTORM sound need not worry either – there’s plenty of party mood in the aptly-named future hit song “P.A.R.T.Y.”, and the high speed, insane folk metal banger “Cannonball” has the most ridiculous and offensive lyrics you’ve ever heard in a pirate metal song (making “Fucked With an Anchor” sound tame).

As an extra special treat for die-hard collector fans, some special editions come with a full acoustic rendition of the entire album, and there’s even a legendary version of the album FOR DOGS once again. In the Wooden Box only, there is a special 7” Single vinyl, including “Christmas with Alestorm” and “Nyár Van”.

SATAN Announce Dates in Germany + Benelux with Label Mates PORTRAIT as Direct Support

Posted in: Int. News, News. Leave a comment

NWOBHM heroes, SATAN, who released their sixth full length album Earth Infernal via Metal Blade in April this year, have announced a 9-date trek through Germany and the Benelux in October. Support comes from Swedish Heavy Metal villains PORTRAIT, who released their critically acclaimed new album At One With None last September via Metal Blade.

Deaf Forever, Metal.de, Guitar, Kulturnews, Metal Blade, Iron Grip & Dragon Productions present
SATAN + PORTRAIT – Earth Infernal European Tour
21.10.2022 NL – Amstelveen, Heavy Metal Maniacs festival
22.10.2022 BE – Vorselaar, De Dreef
23.10.2022 NL – Eindhoven, Dynamo
24.10.2022 DE – Osnabrück, Bastard Club
25.10.2022 DE – Langen, Stadthalle
26.10.2022 DE – Essen, Turock
27.10.2022 DE – Lichtenfels, Paunchy Cats
28.10.2022 DE – Berlin, Brutz & Brakel Stromgitarrenfest
29.10.2022 DE – Hamburg, Heavy Hamburg Halloween

Earth Infernal is a product of the times that birthed it and could only be the work of SATAN. Having churned out cutting edge heavy metal throughout the 80s – and reunited in 2011 – their sixth full-length maintains the high standard they long ago set, and it is perhaps their timeliest release. “For two years the world has been preoccupied with politics and pandemics and while we were all looking the other way our planet has continued to get hotter,” says guitarist Russ Tippins. “Our Earth is now infernally hot. Almost irreversibly so. We are on a one-way trip to Hell and dragging our children along with us. Yes, SATAN has something to say about global warming.” The album entered the German Charts on position 12, the highest Chart entry ever for SATAN!

When it comes to modern heavy metal, there are few bands operating at the same level as PORTRAIT! For a decade and a half, the Swedish unit have been forging their own path, and in the process, infusing life into a longstanding, well-established genre and taking it in new directions. Following up 2017’s acclaimed Burn The World, they returned in 2021 with the mighty At One With None, which was recorded at JFK Studios in Kristianstad, Sweden with Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Hatesphere) handling the mixing. While PORTRAIT fans will immediately recognize it as the work of their heroes, they are not simply rehashing old ideas and treading where they have before. At One With None received critical acclaim by the fans and entered the German Charts on position 41!

Ecuadorian MINIPONY Share New Music Video ‘Song For Fiona’

Ecuadorian avant-garde/tech death metal trio MINIPONY is gearing up for the release of the band’s highly anticipated sophomore album “AJNA“, which will be coming out on June 24th via Subsound Records. In support of the new record, the band has shared a brand new music video for the track “Song For Fiona”.

The band comments:

“Song for Fiona is the second single of our new album AJNA, it’s a super powerful and groovy song, it respects the aesthetics of our compositions on our first album quite a lot but you can already feel a bit of the evolution in the melodic aspect that we have experienced. In particular with the guitar riffs, always hammering but a little more movement.“

With 12 brand new tracks, “AJNA” presents an organic and engaging sound accompanied by a deep excursion in the melodic and rhythmic aspects with insane vocals. The result is already one of the most important productions in the South American metal circuit. Songs that lyrically touch on themes of respect for animal life and human unconsciousness represented in cynical metaphors, result in a deep and direct concept.

Tracklist:

  1. •
  2. Irresponsable
  3. Kill Like A Human
  4. Quaggas
  5. Filippos Lullaby
  6. Breathe
  7. ••
  8. Song For Fiona
  9. Don 18
  10. Shadow
  11. •••
  12. Ajna

The album was recorded at Joe Duplantier’s Silver Cord Studio, mixed by Jamie Uertz and mastered by Johann Meyer (Gojira).

“AJNA” will be coming out on June 24th and you can get it here:
