THE COLD STARES Release New Single ‘Mojo Hand’

For the past year, fans of the wildly popular, Keanu Reeves-starring video game Cyberpunk 2077 have been clamoring for the release of “Mojo Hand,” the hard rocking hit featured in the game’s official trailer, “The Gig.” Now, on the 6-month anniversary of their latest full-length album ‘Heavy Shoes,’ the Indiana blues-rock outfit THE COLD STARES have finally released the single, marking their first new music of 2022. Mixed by Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar, Gov’t Mule), “Mojo Hand” has already received more than 100 million streams through the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer and is one of two songs by The Cold Stares featured in the game. The band is currently on tour in support of ‘Heavy Shoes’ and is working on a new album, due out later this year.

Watch and listen to “Mojo Hand” here:

“Mojo Hand” is about a woman that is like a force of nature,” explains guitarist Chris Tapp. “When she blows in it’s like a storm – bad weather, tornados, the whole works. But the guy who loves her has the “mojo hand,” and he’s able to overcome all of her craziness for the sake of love.”

The Cold Stares’ story is enough for a drama series – cancer, suicide, betrayal, divorce. There’s a richness running through the songs, with dark, multi-layered narratives that course through every twist and turn. Dirty fuzzed-up rock and roll meet blues, garage, desert rock and a Southern Gothic sensibility. Sombre storytelling is etched into their songs with unflinching honesty. For guitarist Chris Tapp, drummer Brian Mullins, and bassist Bryce Klueh, authenticity is their hallmark.

“There’s not really anything that bothers me to talk about,” Tapp explains. “When you don’t allow yourself to be human and say what’s happened to you, then you make other people that are going through tough shit think that they’re alone. Both been Brian and I have gone through divorces, and I’ve been through cancer. We’ve been through tough times and never been given anything on a silver plate. We’re just a blue-collar American rock and roll band.”

Recorded largely at Sam Phillips Recording Studio in Memphis, the band’s latest album ‘Heavy Shoes’ runs a gamut of themes; addiction on “Save You From You,” emotional torture on “Prosecution Blues,” destructive relationships on “Heavy Shoes,” and manipulation on “Election Blues.” Tapp hasn’t been dealt the easiest cards in life. Aged ten he discovered he was adopted, and “for a long time, I kinda felt I was alone.” His Grandfather, whom he “emphatically loved,” ended up taking his own life, and it was Chris who found him. “It was difficult then, and it’s been difficult since,” he says. “That’s a heavy component of my life, and that creeps into the songs. It’s sometimes easier for me to think about it in a song with characters than it is for me to just think about it.”

As a child, his grandfather told him about his great-grandfather, who ran moonshine during prohibition. When no one in the family would discuss that period, he decided to go to do his own research, and discovered that during this, the local Sheriff and Deputy visited his great-grandfather’s house and assaulted his great-aunt.  To protect his family, the next time, he hid under the porch until the Sheriff and Deputy returned. He then shot them both dead on the porch. He spent six days in jail and was released. This trauma shook the family and Tapp lived in that home during his twenties. “My great-aunt lived to be 103 and, just before she passed away, in the last couple of years, she started to talk to me about it.”

Tapp was diagnosed with Stage 3 Cancer in 2009 and given six months to live. 18 months of radiation and chemotherapy followed. “Now I feel like I’m saying what I want to say a little bit more concisely and elegantly,” he concludes.

Now at work on their sixth full-length album, the road-worn warriors have crisscrossed the US and Europe, playing the Mercury Lounge to the Viper Rooms, and played with Rival Sons, Spoon, Grand Funk Railroad and Thievery Corp. You want authenticity, take one long cold hard stare at this band. The Cold Stares are a rock ‘n’ roll band, but they take a sledgehammer to the foundation to reveal the cracks that are suppressed within it. With that, allowing themselves to be raw and open to show that, we are not alone.

RITUAL EFFECT Unleash Hilarious New Video ‘Broken Record’

Dublin based alt rockers RITUAL EFFECT have unleashed their hilarious new video ‘Broken Record‘. The song is taken from their new EP ‘Too Late to Turn Back‘.

Moe, band’s frontman shared:
“‘Broken Record’ is one of those songs that came together in the rehearsal room all at once. I remember throwing the main riff at the guys and 10 minutes later the whole tune was pretty much there. Paul’s drumming is really shining through on this one – there’s some very tasty playing in there.
We got together with Neil Reilly for the video and just had fun. We don’t usually do “story” type videos but we felt it was time to finally put one together. Again, Paul was on fire throughout the shoot
😊
And there’s also very short teaser in there for another song from “Too Late To Turn Back”. Hope you enjoy it!”

The band on ‘Too Late to Turn Back’ EP:
“This is the “difficult second album” but not in the traditional sense. The difficulty we faced with this one was the crazy amount of lockdowns and lack of in-person contact we had thoughtout the whole process.

It’s a pretty different set of tunes to the first album. “Fossils” had lots of fast paced 4 minute rock songs. These compositions are longer and heavier and go in more directions. And unlike the last album, Paul was with us from the very start of the writing process here, and it shows!

The biggest thing we’ve learned through this recording is that nothing can ever be taken for granted. It’s been a year and a half since the last time we got on stage together and this whole experience has just made us hungrier and more determined than ever. We believe that there’s an energy to these tracks that reflects that, and we chose the title “Too Late To Turn Back” because it represents where we stand right now as a band – all in, focused, and ready to seize our moment.

We are very excited to finally have this mini-album ready for the world. Hope you enjoy it!”

Dublin based RITUAL EFFECT fuse aspects of grunge and metal together with catchy riffs, fast paced songs, driving choruses and high energy shows. Since the band’s inception in late 2017, they have written a massive amount of songs, clocked up a hefty amount of gigs, and they have been invited back everywhere that they have played, receiving enthusiastic feedback from far and wide. Each band member has previously written and recorded with different ensembles around the country but none could resist the call to join this new family. Each of the members has their own style and very different qualities which have been intricately wound into Ritual Effect. They are professional to work with, fun to hang out with, and awesome to witness. 2019 saw the band enter the studio for their first serious project, their debut album “Fossils”. This 15 track album is a heavy, melodic nod to their past and sets the pace for a high speed, full on sonic assault to the future. With their song bank close to full storage, a follow up mini album ‘Too Late to Turn Back’ will hit the shelves, song by song, in early 2022. There is no limit to what this band is capable of in the rehearsal room, on stage or on tape. Come join the Ritual and embrace the Effect.

Symphonic metal masters AFTER FOREVER are soon approaching the 15th anniversary of their self-titled swansong album “After Forever” (2007) and to celebrate this anniversary, the band will release a special re-issue of the album – completely re-mastered by Darius van Helfteren and featuring two rare Japanese bonus tracks. Singer Floor Jansen comments: “I am very glad to see this album revamped and presented once again. I am still so proud of it and consider it our best work! It brings back happy memories to rehearsal sessions in extreme temperatures with good laughs and wonderful recording sessions in the middle of the Dutch countryside. Singing these songs live is something I will miss forever and rocking with our loyal fans too. Thank you for all the magnificent years and I hope you can enjoy this album, maybe for the first time, maybe once again!”

The iconic metal band from The Netherlands was formed in the mid nineties by the later EPICA  founder Mark Jansen and guitarist Sander Gommans. The band split up shortly after their eponymous self-titled album “After Forever” in 2008. Keyboard player Joost Van Den Broek became a famous producer for EPICA, BLIND GUARDIAN and many more, while singer Floor Jansen  joined  NIGHWISH  and recently also the German TV show Sing Meinen Song (=Sing My Song); where the symphonic metal icon will join other artists in paraphrasing and interpreting each other’s songs.

Fans never forgot AFTER FOREVER and even though their last album was released at a time before streaming was a thing, it has still gained over 15 million streams.

  3. Transitory
  4. Energize Me
