On June 3rd, Swedish thrash metallers DEFIATORY will release their highly anticipated new full-length record “Apokalyps” on Black Lion Records. In support of the upcoming album, the band has released a lyric video for the track “Into the Unknown” today. Watch the video here:
“Apokalyps“, the third installment by the band from Umeå, evolves from their previous two releases, adding a more sinister atmosphere, harsh melodies and ruthless tempo, as they explore the coming of the ultimate end of the world. So brace yourselves as the Swedish quartet takes you on a journey through an ever changing landscape of war, destruction and invasion from beyond the veil.
The album was produced and recorded by DEFIATORY, mixed by Patrik Wall and mastered by Erik Lindberg at Ekens Ljudkross. “Apokalyps” will be released via Black Lion Records on CD//Digital, with vinyl and tape to follow sometime in late fall and early winter. Pre-orders are available HERE
Australian death metal trio WEREWOLVES have announced their return with a third full-length album, From the Cave to the Grave, due for release via Prosthetic Records on June 24. Alongside the album announcement the band have shared a new track and accompanying lyric video for the apoplectic lead single, We Are Better Than You.
Bassist/vocalist Sam Bean (The Antichrist Imperium, The Berzerker) comments: “This shit again. Seriously. I should be pouring concrete into a lower chamber underneath my shed and stockpiling waterproof boxes of grains, but here I am promoting one of our fucking brutal albums. The day one of us has a heart attack or gets hit by a truck, everything will go back to normal, I guarantee. But in the meantime, buy our shit. We are better than you.“
Drummer Dave Haley (Psycroptic, Abramelin, Ruins, King, Blood Duster) and guitarist Matt Wilcock (The Antichrist Imperium, The Berzerker, Abramelin) add: “This album sounds like the last album, but better.”
WEREWOLVES’ debut The Dead Are Screaming was recorded in 2019 and followed by Australia going from medium to well-done in apocalyptic bushfires. The second release What A Time to Be Alive was recorded in 2020 and closely preceded a global pandemic then mass hysteria. WEREWOLVES attempted some caution and tact by only releasing a limited vinyl EP, DeathMetal, in February 2022 and happened to put it out for sale the same day war came to Europe.
From The Cave to The Grave keeps up the searing pace of the first two WEREWOLVES albums, with a mix of black and death metal and unprecedented aggression that is coalescing into a style of its own. Opener Self-Help Book Burning kicks the door in Hate Eternal-style before deforming into a blackened ending. It’s followed by stadium crowd-pleaser We Are Better Than You, blaster All the Better to Eat You With, and social credit score-destroyer Crushing Heaven’s Mandate. Harvest of the Skulls is an ode to the horror of genocide and the rest of the album blasts through to closing threat Watch Your Mouth, leaving you to enjoy your ringing ears and mild trauma.
The mixing is by Joe Haley (Psycroptic) and the artwork is by Mitchell Nolte. Slayer never changed their shit up, neither will WEREWOLVES. “Change” can be mistaken for “progression”, which WEREWOLVES shrinks in horror from.
Danish thrash metal band sickOmania have released a new official video (also containing lyrics) for the track Slumberland Prophets. Their self-titled debut album is due out worldwide via Sliptrick Records soon. sickOmania play a crossover of melodic thrash, death and classic heavy metal.

Berlin-based sludge and post-metal heavy weights SHOVEL have announced new details about their upcoming, first-full-length album. The band’s self-titled debut will drop on May 27, 2022 via Italy’s powerhouse label Argonauta Records!
Ever since their first gig, SHOVEL created an immediate connection with the vibrant scene of Berlin, Germany, and following their colossal demo in 2019, they managed to establish themselves within the heavy music underground. The four-piece connects the immediacy of an intense riffage, existential screams and the elusiveness of otherworldly sounds and atmospheres. Emerging from the mud of sludge, doom and post-metal, their music travels through the openness and freedom of psychedelic textures to end up crawling in black metal claustrophobia and despair with an unconventional and distinct sound. “A couple of years ago, we started playing together; we were not even sure we were forming a band,” guitarist and vocalist Kostis Benning reveals. “Our sincere experimentation and dedication formed these songs- and these songs formed Shovel. SHOVEL‘s upcoming album was recorded live on tape at Big Snuff Studio, Berlin, by producer and engineer Richard Behrens (Kadavar, Samsara Blues Experiment, Elder). The album was mastered in The Atomic Garden Studio (California, USA) by Grammy nominated producer Jack Shirley (Amenra, Deafheaven, Oathbreaker). The artwork and layout was designed by étions formidables.
