ANCIENT SETTLERS have released their monumental debut album, Our Last Eclipse, out now through Crusader Records/Golden RobotRecords, available on CD and digital.

Mixed and mastered by Grammy award winning producer, Fredrik Nordström, Our Last Eclipse takes you from fast-paced, powerful melodic death metal to 80’s synth-wave, and even all the way to catchy post-metal riffs, all bound together by a nostalgic Gothenburg influence. Lyrically, it’s an invitation to walk alongside ANCIENT SETTLERS in their journey of facing the odds of leaving ones motherland for a new unknown soil.

Earlier this week, the band dropped the final album preview piece in the form of the stunning single and video, ‘Cerements’.

ANCIENT SETTLERS also delivered three other powerhouse singles in the lead up to their full-length gem; with ‘Library of Tears’ and ‘Cast in Gold’ both backed with animated Sci-Fi short film videos and ‘Into the Depths I Ride’, featuring a cracking live and behind the scenes video clip.

OUR LAST ECLIPSE TRACK LISTING

  1. Into the Depths I Ride
  2. Cast in Gold
  3. Our Last Eclipse
  4. Cerements
  5. Jotnar Magick
  6. Library of Tears
  7. Silent December
  8. Memories.
  9. The Black Rainbow
  10. Peregrination

ALBUM TRACK BY TRACK

‘Into the Depths I Ride’
A fast-paced track with a complex riff in the verse and a catchy chorus section in contrast. Very synthesizer-driven, powerful and melodic.

‘Cast in Gold’
This song has a nostalgic Gothenburg influence, with very melodic guitars, synths that took days to complete and a rich bridge with vocals and a string quartet.

‘Our Last Eclipse’
The title track; deeply guitar oriented, eminently cold and slow-paced, making the listener feel as though they’re watching stars collide in outer space in slow motion. Highly technical solo section between the synthesizer and guitars.

‘Cerements’
The lyrics on this track are very sentimental; compelling the sadness we all have felt for departed ones. An expressive and fast solo section invites the listener to feel the emotions implied in the song.

‘Jotnar Magick’
This track pays homage to Norse Mythology, telling the tale of a Jotnar (giant) that lured a goddess into his clutches. It’s a powerful, fast and drum-oriented song that matches the rapid pace of the story being told. The contrasting rhythms at the end of the song symbolizes the death of the goddess.

‘Library of Tears’
The first single from the album, this song goes back to basics with the strong, in your face metal sound and haunting background effects, reminding the listener of the despair that comes with living on a dying planet.

‘Silent December’
Taking inspiration from the cult film ‘Blade Runner,’ this track starts off with an 80’s synth-wave vibe and eerie vocal passage. From a lyrical standpoint, the song talks us through a path of vengeance that finally comes to its fruition.

‘Memories’
This is a song about the experiences of people that are forced to leave their motherland to face the odds of the unknown in a different soil; an ode to all the outcasts, the broken yet the hopeful. For the first time in the album, this track features sections of layered shouting vocals, providing a sense of unity and symbolizing that despite the adversities, we are all walking this path together.

‘The Black Rainbow’
This track is down-tempo and melodic, starting with an acoustic guitar that emphasizes the emotion and message that the song conveys – the never-ending mystery of death, and what, if anything, comes next.

‘Peregrination’
Closing the album out with a statement, the band flew into this one all guns blazing and unleashed the power that Ancient Settlers has to offer. The end of the track changes pace, essentially rolling the credits on the journey this album has been.

Stream/buy ‘Our Last Eclipse’ HERE

ANCIENT SETTLERS were founded in 2020 by Carlos Chiesa-Estomba & Herman Riera (Ex- Haboryn), Rene González (Ex- Aesthesis), Emmy Reyes (Blackbeer, Ex- Gamalyel), and Antony Hämäläinen (Meridian Dawn, Ex- Nightrage & Armageddon), a group of musicians with more than fifteen-years of experience in the European and American metal circuit.

The band started their journey with the intention to explore the frontiers of modern melodic death metal, including catchy guitar riffs, the use of synths & keyboards, and a variety of different sounds and rhythms, trying to develop their own music personality.

From a lyrical point, the band gets inspired by the recent tragedies that affect the earth and human race. They try to spread their message over all those who want to listen.

Despite this, the band needed to modify their starting plans, due to the pandemic outbreak. They pushed ahead and in January of 2021, the band released their first digital single ‘Diamond Eyes’, along-side a limited edition 7″ vinyl. The following February, the band released their debut EP ‘Autumnus’. Both were recorded in Portugal, France, Spain and the USA, and requested the service of Daniel Cardoso (Anathema, Anneke Van Grisbergen) to mix & master the album, as well as Gus “Perkele” Sazes (Angra, Kamelot, Gus G, Firewind, Arch Enemy) to design the artworks.

In April 2021, Miguel Herrera joined the band as a full-time bass player. The band started to develop a live-session tour, including venues throughout Portugal, France and Spain.

Sognametal veterans VREID are now premiering their brand new cover of the Rolling Stones classic, ‘Paint it Black!’ The song, along with a music video that features videography from Håvard Nesbø and artwork from Kim Holm, can be heard at THIS LOCATION.

VREID comments:

“In 2020 we were invited by the Norwegian Nobel Peace Center and the Inferno Festival to choose and perform a cover song as a part of the “Songs that change the world” series. Unfortunately, this event was swiped off the earth by the plague that have pestered the world the last years. Nevertheless, we decided to continue this creative path started and recorded the song.

“When the song was recorded, we made video for it. We used our wizard brothers Håvard Nesbø and Kim Holm to create a homage to the crazy world of rock n´ roll. Håvard who produced our Wild North West movie produced the music video and Kim who did the artwork for our Solverv and Welcome Farewell albums did the art. The song we decided to interpret in our Vreid universe is the rock anthem Paint it Black by the The Rolling Stones. This one of the most important pioneer songs for rock n´ roll, and a blueprint from where this tree of heavy music culture has grown into a many headed beast for 7 decades now.

“This song and video are a celebration of the fantastic creativity that started in the 1960ies and have been developed by so many great artists and bands ever since. We have incorporated our humble respect to many of our leading stars in this video, and it was fascinating to see how naturally this song transformed into our own universe. Remember, It´s Only Rock n´ Roll.”

In April 2020, VREID were invited by the Norwegian Nobel Peace Center and the Inferno Festival to perform a cover song of their choosing as a part of the “Songs that change the world” series. Unfortunately, this illustrious event was swiped off the earth by the plague that has pestered the world the last years. Nevertheless, being true rock soldiers, VREID decided to continue this creative path and recorded the song, which has never been released.

Now, the band is finally sharing their The song the band decided to interpret is the rock anthem “Paint it Black” by the The Rolling Stones as the band regards this track among one of the most important pioneer songs for rock n´ roll, and a blueprint from where this tree of heavy music culture has grown into a many headed beast for 7 decades now.

VREID is supporting the release of 2021’s critically acclaimed ‘Wild North West,’ a concept album that developed alongside an entire movie. Inspired by both true events and pure imagination, the listener is taken on a whirlwind of a journey, diving deep into themes of war, fear, betrayal, loss, anxiety, and madness with thought-provoking lyrics that embody human nature. It captures the Nordic heart at the core of their sound, taking cues from Norway’s rugged landscape as it ricochets between eternal darkness and the solace of bracing light.

Moreover, VREID has been inducted into Norway’s National Museum of Popular Music Rockheim in 2021! The band is featured as a part of Rockheim’s Millennium exhibition and are also included in Norwegian music history.

Last year, VREID also revealed exciting and unique partnership with the Sogndal Football Club! The club has for many years been known for developing and cultivating extraordinary talent, as the men’s team currently plays in first division, the second tier of the Norwegian football league system. Now, Sogndal Football Club is paying tribute to the band that has brought Sognametal to the whole world, by putting the logo of metal veterans and forefathers VREID on the chest of player’s uniforms for last year’s season.

VREID has  recently appeared on Norway’s TV2, the biggest commercial news station in the country! The clip spotlighted the band’s ‘Into the Mountains of Sognametal’ livestream, which attracted over 140,000 fans from all over the world when it premiered in June of 2020, as well as the band’s ambitious upcoming album and film. Formed in Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1988, PARADISE LOST were unlikely candidates for metal glory when they slithered from the shadows and infiltrated the UK underground. But not content with spawning an entire subgenre with early death/doom masterpiece „Gothic“ nor with conquering the metal mainstream with the balls-out power of 1995’s „Draconian Times“, they have subsequently traversed multiple genre boundaries with skill and grace, evolving through the pitch-black alt-rock mastery of ‘90s classics „One Second“ and „Host“ to the muscular but ornate grandeur of 2009’s „Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us“ and „Tragic Idol“ (2012), with the nonchalant finesse of grand masters. The band’s last two albums – „The Plague Within“ (2015) and „Medusa“ (2017) – saw a much celebrated return to brutal, old school thinking, via two crushing monoliths to slow-motion death and spiritual defeat. Consistently hailed as one of metal’s most charismatic live bands, PARADISE LOST arrive in this new decade as veterans, legends and revered figureheads for several generations of gloomy metalheads. In keeping with their unerring refusal to deliver the expected, 2020 brings one of the band’s most diverse and devastating creations to date.

Finnish Fantasy Metal Force BATTLELORE Present First Single ‘Firekeeper’ from Upcoming Album

The time has come to wield your sword and charge back to the battlefield! Following their last studio album, Doombound (2011), and extensive touring, Finnish heavy metal force BATTLELORE took a creative break. On June 3, 2022, the long, lingering 10-year sleep of the collective will finally end with the release of their much awaited, seventh record, entitled The Return Of The Shadow, via Napalm Records!

“It wasn’t intentional, time just passed, and we didn’t want to push things to happen, because we knew that the new album would come when the stars are aligned and the time is right,” vocalist Tomi Mykkänen reveals. “This is our “comeback” album and we are ready to be back!“

The album title perfectly represents their sensational comeback. Named after Tolkien’s original, shelved title for his legendary epic fantasy novel Fellowship of the Ring, BATTLELORE’s brand new album features nine Middle-earth themed songs, shining with the blistering aura the band has become known and loved for.

Today, they have finally shared a first track taken from The Return Of The Shadow! On “Firekeeper”, the Lappeenranta-based fantasy metal warriors showcase their exceptional songwriting skills, diving deep into dark facets of symphonic yet heavy metal realms. The vocal duets of Tomi Mykkänen’s power and the fairylike voice of Kaisa Jouhki merge with otherworldly guitars on this epic metal hymn!

Guitarist Jyri Vahvanen says about the track, “In the beginning there was nothing but silence. Then came the Creator called Ilúvatar and began a song which gave a birth to a world called Arda, and in the heart of it he set a flame, The Secret Fire. The One, All Father, Firekeeper of the World!”

Watch the new BATTLELORE lyric video for “Firekeeper” HERE:

The Return Of The Shadow was recorded by Janne Saksa at the Sound Supreme Studios, Finland, and was mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound Studios. As a special gift to fans, the album will also include a bonus EP, entitled Lost Lands, that features three songs written around the beginning of the band’s hiatus that, soundwise, are different from the tracks on the main album.

“This bonus EP is something we wanted to record and release alongside the actual album, to clear the table and continue our musical career without any unpublished material haunting us from the past.“ Tomi explains. “The songs of the EP are from the beginning of our 10-year hiatus, so the compositions and the overall atmosphere differ from The Return Of The Shadow. Therefore, we felt that these hymns from the old days deserved their own release.”

As the first single proves, the energy BATTLELORE showcases on The Return Of The Shadow – their first full-length album in more than 10 years – is immediately evident, making this record one of their strongest, heaviest and best works to date. Thankfully it’s not just their shadows, but the return of one of the most thrilling acts in heavy fantasy metal – welcome back, BATTLELORE!

The Return Of The Shadow will be out on June 3, 2022 through Napalm Records, the pre-sale has just started at THIS LOCATION!

The Return Of The Shadow track listing:

  1. Minas Morgul
  2. Chambers of Fire
  3. Orcrist
  4. Homecoming
  5. Elvenking
  6. Firekeeper
  7. Mirrormere
  8. True Dragons
