Thrash Veterans NOCTURNAL BREED Ink Deal With Dark Essence Records

After a long search to find a label to suit their exacting requirements, Norwegian Thrashers NOCTURNAL BREED have described their upcoming collaboration with Dark Essence Records as “Monumental and Trench-Altering”, as the band explains:

It has been an ever-occurring dream for the band to gather the forces at home in Norway. And this March 18th saw this come to pass, as hoof-marks were carved in ink, and a final deal with Dark Essence Records was signed and agreed upon.

The last two decades have been spent looking for a label and a ‘safe haven’, one that allows bands to  focus on ‘the music’ and the integrity of the product. “Quality, Dedication and Knowhow” in perfect unison is what we set out to find. And this is what we get with Dark Essence Records.  It may sound like a cliché but honestly it feels like coming home.

It is an honour to serve side by side on the battlefield, with such epic bands and old friends, such as can be found on Dark Essence’s  roster. As well as having the opportunity to work with the genuinely professional, to the bone, and utterly dedicated people as the ones at Dark Essence. It has resulted in a long-awaited refuelling and re-fusing of the bands inner workings.

And so, we raise the iron-flag here in the bunker.  The knives are out and sharpened.  A new album is on the way and new nuclear fuel is pumping through our  veins…
This will be a good one Thrashiacs!
S.A. Destroyer
Bunker Norvegicus

NOCTURNAL BREED was formed in Oslo in 1996 by S.A. Destroyer (aka Svartalv – ex. GEHENNA, SATYRICON) both as an homage to the old waves of Thrash, Speed and Heavy Metal of the 80’s and as a reaction against the growing commercialisation of the Black Metal scene that plagued the mid 90’s with its ever increasing ‘polished’ sound, along with the softening of attitudes in Metal in general.

The decades that followed saw NOCTURNAL BREED undergo the inevitable lineup changes and hiatuses that bands are subjected to during their careers, all the while producing a plethora of releases, which, aside from the obvious early demos and studio albums, include EP’s, Boxed Sets, and Compilations, culminating in the 2021 release of the “Face Your Aggressor” double album which marked the band’s 25th Anniversary.

Which brings us to the present day and finds NOCTURNAL BREED in their private “Bunker Studios” working on the final stages of their seventh full-length album, set to be released on Dark Essence Records later this year.

More information about the band can be found on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Thrashiac777NocturnalBreed

CELTIC HILLS’ New Video ‘Living Out of the Egg’ Goes Viral

In less than a week ago, Italian legendary Speed/thrash metallers CELTIC HILLS released their video ‘Living Out of the Egg‘, and it has gone viral, gaining 10k visuals in only one day, and still counting, today having 52k+ views!

‘Living out of the egg’ is featured by the band’s drummer Simone Cescutti on vocals. The song, which is proving to be a hit, is taken from the band’s upcoming album “Huldufólk” on April 1st, via Elevate Records.

In case you missed ‘Living out of the egg’ video, watch it here:

Jonathan Vanderbilt, the band’s frontman shared:
“Simone Cescutti, the drummer of CELTIC HILLS, leaves the band to pursue a career as a singer. To say goodbye and wish him the best in this new adventure, he and Jonathan Vanderbilt have made a video to greet the fans with a song designed just for Simone’s new career: Living out of the egg. The song is present in the new album “Huldufolk”, coming out on April 1st, and maybe Simone will still play some live concerts, while the band is still rehearsing with the new drum substitutes.”

The new album “Huldufolk” collects and relaunches the excellent reviews obtained from the previous work. “Huldufolk” is a record with a lot of melody but characterized by the speed that distinguishes Celtic Hills. The album was produced by Michele Guaitoli singer of Temperance and Vision of Atlantis in the studios of the Groove Factory in Udine and for the realization of the cover again the talented Sheila Franco.

Earlier Jonathan revealed on “Huldufólk”:
“Again this time we will talk about Friuli, and the theory is at work that the location of the American Air Force Base Aviano is used to control an ancient access to the underground world, which has been used by the pagan gods since ancient times. The magical rites of the inhabitants of the mountains and the places where elves, fairies and gnomes once lived among the people are revealed. There are already definitive titles such as The Sound of the Earth in F sharp minor. A text tells how you can use the beneficial energy of the trees at dawn to strengthen your energies, but there will be no lack of historical events that accompany every CELTIC HILLS album.”

Jonathan on the album cover artwork:
“The cover was again entrusted to Sheila Franco with the input of drawing a brighter cover, with the predominant green between the green that characterizes the MATRIX movie and the green of uncontaminated nature. A record in the balance between the enchanted world of legends, heroic deeds performed by people who wanted a better world. A record that looks to the past, projecting itself into a future to be built. A passing disc that wants to take past history with it to go further …to draw.”

The tracklisting reads the following:
1 – The Secret of the Grail
2 – Metal Message
3 – After The Eartquake
4 – Hidden Folk
5 – Green Forest
6 – Gate Of Hollow Earth
7 – Living Out Of The Egg
8 – The Sound Of Earth
9 – The Hammer Of Thor
10 – Villacher Kirktag

CELTIC HILLS were born in 2010, in 2020 they sign a recording contract with Elevate Records with which they released the album “Blood over Intents” and the EP “Schrage Musik” both in 2020. In 2021 another album is out “Mystai Keltoy” produced and recorded by Michele Guaitoli singer of Temperance, Vision of Atlantis and Era. The style played is difficult to place in a single vein of metal, as there are many influences ranging from death to power, with sound elements that can also recall a certain type of 90’s thrash. The singing is quite varied, and for some listeners it may seem unusual in a metal band. power, speed and good melodic lines distinguish the band from others. Between 2010 and 2020 they released “Horns helmet fighters” and for the Slovak Music Globalliance they came out on international compilations on volumes 2,3,4. CELTIC HILLS’ new album “Huldufólk” is coming out on April 1st, 2022 via Elevate Records.

HÄLLAS Release Official Video for ‘Elusion’s Gate’

Rising Swedish “Adventure Rock” stars HÄLLAS return with an evocative, feel-good blend of nostalgic 70’s hard rock, prog, proto-metal, folk and psychedelic influences on their anticipated upcoming third studio album, Isle Of Wisdom, out April 8, 2022.

With its blend of 70’s rock, folk, and psychedelic influences, single “Elusion’s Gate” of Adventure Rock Stars HÄLLAS enchants. Now, the Swedes have released an official music video for the previously released single. The video easily takes the atmosphere of the song and transforms it into epic images. The special video technique and imagery makes the video a dark and mysterious piece of art.

Isle Of Wisdom starts with synthy “Birth Into Darkness”, with an incredibly clever topline from the one of a kind vocals of singer and bassist Tommy Alexandersson. The musical journey continues with the mystical single “Earl’s Theme” embellished by choral voices, and proceeds with exceptional “Elusion’s Gate” – a piece that, by making room for the guitar lines of Alexander Moraitis and Marcus Petersson, highlights the overall epic and mysterious atmosphere of the album. Isle Of Wisdom was produced in collaboration with Linn Fijal and Vilma Colling at Riksmixningsverket studio, which has hosted the diverse likes of Arch Enemy, ABBA and Celine Dion. Comprised of eight bold opuses, Isle Of Wisdom is a deft new step in the noteworthy sonic trajectory of HÄLLAS, cementing them as a band to watch!

This collection of fresh tracks allows the listener to emerge in a brand new realm soaked in mystery and retro atmosphere – key features of HÄLLAS’ fantasy and sci-fi driven auditory aesthetic. Isle Of Wisdom, the successor to HÄLLAS’ critically acclaimed full-length offering Conundrum (Top 50 on the Swedish Charts, P3 Guld Award nominee), is set for release just before they hit the road on an extensive European tour.

HÄLLAS on Isle Of Wisdom:
“An escape from unwanted happenings doesn’t always lead you towards the better as danger can be found in any universe or time. Welcome to the Isle of Wisdom.”

NAZARETH Founder Recalls Stonehenge Props Mishaps While On Tour w/ Black Sabbath Born Again Tour 83′

Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice spoke to Nazareth’s Bassist co-founder Pete Agnew about the bands upcoming new album ‘Surviving The Law’ to be released April 15 2022 via Frontiers

Pete Agnew spoke about touring with Nazareth on the Black Sabbath  Born Again tour and  the ‘Stonehenge props’ Mishaps. Plus Agnew talks recalls some  Axl Rose and Guns N’ Roses stories.

When asked about the new album ‘Surviving The Law’ and comparing it to the last album and their classic 70’s albums

“It’s a different band now for a start. Tattooed on My Brain was the first album  that we did with this line up with a new singer, that was the first time.  This time we are a bit more used to each other.  We were stuck in the pandemic plague, so everybody was writing an awful lot more songs than we normally would, But it all worked out very well. In terms of material, the content of the album I think this one is a little more darker, I think it’s a bit more heavier than Tattooed on My Brain. There is definitely a different mood on this album and I think it follows ‘Tattooed on My Brain’ well.”

When asked about touring with Black Sabbath on their Born Again tour, the Stonehenge props and the show delays in Montreal Canada, 1983

“Do you remember that stupid stage set (Stonehenge props) that  Black Sabbath had?  Has anyone seen Spinal Tap? That is were it was taken from. They built that Stonehenge thing and it took them about a day, two days to put that up before we could go onstage. Their crew was working on it banging away. Our guys couldn’t get in there to organize our equipment because of the nonsense that was going on with Black Sabbath’s work crew. In fact it was so funny because half of the crew got fired that night and then they never used the set again the whole tour. That was hilarious, it was complete mayhem backstage onstage. At one point they were discussing that we were not going to go on because it was going to take that long to get them on (Black Sabbath) but there would have been complaints because we did sell quite a few tickets ourselves. That is why you were waiting, waiting for them to build that stupid stage. We just did the four shows in Canada at the beginning and then we left to go to America.”

When asked about the time by Axl Rose wanted Nazareth to play at his wedding
“It was Dan (Dan McCafferty) it wasn’t Nazareth. It was for Dan to sing ‘Love hurts’ Axl was getting married to an Everly Brothers daughter ( Erin Everly). It was mentioned they would have liked Dan to do it but we were touring, it just wasn’t possible and he would have went. Dan would have went along and sung. I think possibly the song outlasted the marriage .In the early days Guns N Roses used to come and see us before they were huge.”

LORD OF THE LOST Reveal New Cover of Lady Gaga’s ‘Judas’

German genre-fusing visionaries LORD OF THE LOST return in 2022 with a new EP, The Heartbeat of The Devil! Out May 6, 2022 via Napalm Records, the EP not only features two versions of its title track, which was first released on the band’s most recent full-length – the conceptual masterpiece JUDAS – but three cover songs encompassing the band’s free-thinking attitude.

Today, the band has released the first cover track from the new EP – a cover of “Judas” by Lady Gaga – an artist that has inspired frontman Chris Harms for years. LORD OF THE LOST managed to make this song their own while keeping the main structures of the song alive, adding retro synthesizer sounds, double bass passages and a combination of growling screams and clear vocals.

Chris Harms on “Judas”:

“Lady Gaga has caused me many sleepless nights in the past. That’s meant differently than that may sound at first – her songs stay in my head and stick to my heart, as do few other artists. There they remain, for very long. That’s why it is very exciting to me to interpret such a song vocally myself, always knowing that in today’s world, it’s not impossible for the result to be heard by the original artist herself. Sounds a lot like fanboy action – it actually is.”

The new EP begins with the single version of “The Heartbeat of The Devil”, and closes with a striking piano version of the same song. Rounding out the center of the EP are three cover versions of iconic songs: “Children Of The Damned” by Iron Maiden, who LORD OF THE LOST will support on 18 dates of the band’s European tour after the release of the EP, “Judas” by Lady Gaga and “Wig In A Box” from famed rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch. These iconic songs are reinvented and transformed by the dark atmosphere of LORD OF THE LOST’s trademark sound.

The Heartbeat Of The Devil follows both JUDAS (2021, #2 GER) and Thornstar (2018, #6 GER), which repeatedly solidified LORD OF THE LOST as visionaries unafraid to express themselves outside of the norm. Their nonconformism is undoubtedly a key point of their attraction and distinction, and their sophisticated sonic universe sets them apart from all other bands in the genre — manifesting as controversial in the best possible sense.

LORD OF THE LOST on The Heartbeat Of The Devil:

“With the pandemic and the unplanned free time – you can spontaneously record three cover versions of songs that move you at the moment. But why these three songs? “Judas” by Lady Gaga should be self-explanatory due to the title overlap with our current album. “Children Of The Damned” is a nod to our summer tour hosts Iron Maiden, who booked us as a support band. And “Wig In A Box”… well, if you don’t know the movie musical ‘Hedwig And The Angry Inch’, you should definitely change that. We saw the movie one day and one of us yelled, ‘let’s cover that song!’ – and as it always is with us, every spontaneous idea is put into action. Or at least it’s tried.”
