Sweden’s PORT NOIR Release New Single ‘Sweet & Salt’, Announce UK Dates with IMMINENCE

As we move into 2022, Sweden’s ground-breaking rock act PORT NOIR are primed and ready to return with their brand-new album. A release that brings together elements of their past, in both style and sound, but given a fresh impetus by the band’s approach to the song writing and recording process. Embracing the energy and passion of their live performances and capturing that in the recording process was paramount in the band’s mind. Digging deeper into the essence of the songs this time out, Port Noir chose to ditch standard studio aids such as click tracks and allow the songs the ebb and flow that their live shows embrace, creating a collection of songs that capture the beating heart of Port Noir. Slightly darker in feel but still very much Port Noir, the new album ‘Cuts‘ bristles with energy, intensity and musical depth, ensuring it will be an album that’s impact will be felt immediately. The band released the first single ‘All Class’ Dec 3rd including music video, the second single ‘Sweet & Salt‘ was released February 11th.

Port Noir about the second single ‘Sweet & Salt’;
”Sweet & Salt is a pretty emotional song with a lot of depth. It has a calm vibe to it and it feels kind of vintage and modern at the same time, a mix between rock and contemporary pop/rnb. A good song to night drive too.” – Port Noir

Port Noir is one of those rare bands that, try as you might, are impossible to fit into a neat box. Mixing edgy, contemporary dark pop, R&B, and rock into a sound that is both unique and refreshing. Hailing from Sweden, the band have released three critically acclaimed albums (the brand-new album is imminent) and toured extensively, including support shows with the likes of Karnivool,Leprous, Kaiser Chiefs, In Flames,Vola,Pain of Salvation, as well as prestigious festival appearances including Eurosonic ESNS.

The band’s previous album (‘The New Routine’) saw a significant increase in listeners/streams, pushing the band’s support of over 7 million streams, as well as garnering fantastic support across the press and radio. They have been reviewed by Distorted Sound Magazine, Lounder Sound, Gaffa,Metal.de,Everything is Noise, Time For Metal,World of Metal to name a few. Like everyone else, everything came to grinding halt with Covid for the band, but, undeterred, they utilized their down time and began working on new songs and new ideas, all which culminated in some of the band’s most diverse, eclectic, and powerful new material to date. As you’ll witness when the new album arrives in 2022.

Members: Love Andersson(Vocals, Bass), AW Wiberg (Drums) and Andreas Hollstrand as a session musician (Guitar). Produced by Port Noir / Vocals & Synths/FX recorded by Port Noir. Recorded by Daniel Bergstrand (Devin Townsend, In Flames, Behemoth) alongside Fredrik Thordendal (Meshuggah). Mixed & Mastered by Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna).

‘This World Is Going to Ruin You’ was recorded with Grammy-winning producer Will Putney of Graphic Nature Audio in April 2020, just weeks into a global shutdown. Featuring guest appearances from artists Geoff Rickly, Jeff Smith, and BONES, as well as the original artwork and typography of Autumn Morgan, ‘This World Is Going To Ruin You’ is a fully-realized version of the band’s darker and more disgusting inception of metallic hardcore.

While the band’s full-length debut ‘Errorzone’ received praise from Pitchfork, which stated that it “sets the tone for one of the year’s most exhilarating heavy records…” ‘This World Is Going to Ruin You’ will be hailed as its own formidable beast. “Every release is like its own universe,” the band explains. “On Errorzone, we made a departure into another universe, sonically and visually. It was very futuristic and high-energy, and there were lots of elements we tapped into in order to fulfill our vision of that universe.” In that sense, This World Is Going To Ruin You is not a return to the band’s roots so much as a more fully realized version of them. “But it’s not a contrived nostalgia trip. We’re just naturally taking that part of the band to a fuller potential,” vocalist Anthony DiDio explains. “Errorzone was entering another world, while this record is Vein.fm coming home.”

Lyrically, ‘This World Is Going to Ruin You’ describes the human condition through a birth-to-death timeline. “I was coming from a very anti-social mentality,” DiDio says. “I want people to completely disconnect and have their own personal journey through this album.”

Italian Avant Extreme Metal Collective SYK to Unleash “Pyramiden” on March 11th

Italian avant extreme metal collective SYK will unleash their long-awaited new full-length, “Pyramiden”, on March 11th via Housecore Records in North America and Nuclear Blast in Europe, today unveiling the record’s cover art, track listing, and first single!

SYK, featuring founding guitarist and principal songwriter Stefano Ferrian (ex-Psychofagist), vocalist Dalila Kayros, rhythm/lead guitarist Marcello Cravini, and new recruit, drummer Mauro Maraldo (ex-Onirik), has been scorching ears and torching souls for nearly a decade. Led by the nihilistic vocal assault of Kayros, syk is at once grim and complex; relentless and alluring, fusing the tight, rhythmic pummeling of Meshuggah with the haunting melodies of Bjork.

Following their debut LP “Atoma” (2014), the band released their second effort, “I-Optikon”, on Housecore Records (2016). Produced by Philip H. Anselmo, “I-Optikon” reaped critical accolades from fans and critics in the know. Lauded New Noise Magazine, “We just haven’t heard anything even remotely like this before – and I don’t think we’re going to forget it anytime soon.” Echoing Magazine championed, “Female vocals that carry a yell like Exene Cervenka, as done with the same power as Henry Rollins,” while Skulls ‘N’ Bones likened the listen to, “…a trip through the empty, shattered halls of someone’s emotional insane asylum,” adding, “it’s music to swallow glass by.”

And with 2022 comes the band’s third full-length “Pyramiden”. Composed and recorded over the course of three years, the seven-track offering was mixed in the Winter of 2020/2021 at Inverno Studios under the supervision of Fabrizio Gesuato, while mastering took place at Anselmo’s own Nodferatu’s Lair with Stephen Berrigan at the helm. The record features artwork by Elena Romenkova.

Comments Ferrian, “’Pyramiden’ is about finding the way to isolate oneself to all the uneasiness coming from society, then find a suitable space to face one’s uneasiness. It’s being in the farthest place on earth where silence gives room to all sorts of visions or hallucinations. As with the previous release, ‘Pyramiden’ follows the alchemic principle of dissolving in order to assume a new shape but diving far deeper into obscurity where surviving means, in fact, to invent light into darkness.”

In advance of the record’s release, today syk unveils its title track, “Pyramiden.” Watch the video for the track here:

“Pyramiden” will be released on CD and digitally with a vinyl addition to follow at a later dates.
Find physical preorders at THIS LOCATION and digital preorders here: https://nblast.de/syk-pyramiden

“Pyramiden” Track Listing:

1. Pyramiden
2. The Palest White
3. The Hollow Mother
4. Zoas
5. Promethean
6. When Fire Fell Into Water
7. Cell Of The Sun

HANGMAN’S CHAIR Release Video for Single ‘Who Wants To Die Alone’, New Album Out Now

French based doom metal visionaries HANGMAN’S CHAIR have finally released their latest album “A Loner”. The follow-up record to 2018’s “Banlieue Triste” is the band’s sixth studio album and their first record on Germany based, worldwide leading metal label Nuclear Blast Records. Inspired and adorned with true-to-life experiences, HANGMAN’S CHAIR shine again with their recognizable sound and passionate storytelling to deliver a worthy longplayer to their fans after four years. The combination of dark and atmospheric elements together with emotional melodies and harmonies make HANGMAN’S CHAIR stand out as a truly promising prospect in the French metal scene and beyond. To celebrate the release day, their latest single ‘Who Wants To Die Alone’ comes along with a new music video.

HANGMAN’S CHAIR about their album ‘A Loner’:
“It’s been a long, long way to get to this day and the path was beset with difficulties. And now  to hold A LONER in our hands is an accomplishment and a relief, we’re just enjoying the fruits of our labor. The 3 singles we released were a taste of the album and to discover A LONER as a whole will definitely be a different experience that we’re finally happy to share. To celebrate this day, we also released a new video, “WHO WANTS TO DIE OLD”, directed by Oscar Bizarre, filmed in an old disused asylum hidden in the woods near Paris. A music clip that closes the trilogy of A LONER videos.”

The album is available now in various formats. Order your copy here: https://hangmanschair.bfan.link/a-loner.ema

Additionally, the band comments on the release of ‘Who Wants To Die Old’:

‘This is where it all started, depression. Depression comes back like an old friend, always. It crawls and slithers like Colonel Kurtz’snail, along the edge of a straight razor, our spine. And it survives.
‘Who Wants To Die Old’ was written at the peak of a never ending depressed state and the stage was set for the rest of the album.
Musically, it has been inspired by our main influences from the 90’s Brooklyn Type O Negative & Life Of Agony. Once again, Oscar Bizarre is behind the camera, filmed in an abandoned sanitarium hidden in the woods near Paris, where concrete and nature become one.’

HANGMAN’S CHAIR, formed in 2005 in Paris, are one of the most unique sounding Doom Rock bands currently active. Through the years, they have found and fine-tuned their own sonic brand, somewhere at the crossroads between TYPE O NEGATIVE, LIFE OF AGONY and SISTERS OF MERCY, to name a few, mixed with a certain street credibility connected to the group’s roots in hardcore. Each album takes its strength and essence from the band members’s life experiences, which they portrait with unflinching honesty. Whether it is the loss of band members, drug overdoses or the hardships of living in suburban Paris, all those human emotions resonate within each of their songs asthey embrace the darkness and transform it into something beautiful, heavy and melancholic.
