TUOMAS ROUNAKARI: “Bear Awakener” Begins, Bear Amulets Unboxing Video Unleashed

Violinist, composer, ethnomusicologist TUOMAS ROUNAKARI will release his second solo album “Bear Awakener” on March 13th 2022, pre-orders start on Thursday November 4th at Indiegogo! Today Tuomas unveils the video where he unboxes the unique Bear Amulets straight from Siberia, which are to be included into the first 40 special edition gift-box CD -orders.

Tuomas stated:
“Bear Awakener begins!
Exciting days! Pre-orders start officially on Thursday November 4th. My own enthusiasm over all of this is blowing off the roof tops! So many tasks and decisions, inspiring ideas and studies on how to make them a reality.”

Watch Tuomas’ unboxing Bear amulets -video here:

Indiegogo link – https://igg.me/at/bearawakener – will activate by midnight Nov 4th local time (Finland). (Nov 3rd 22:00 GMT)

(Please note! The link opens up as a draft until the campaign is launched.)

The bear amulets come from a shamanic artist Angela Bazaron from the Lake Baikal area, Siberia. She is an indigenous artist from the Buryat people. Tuomas fell in love with her bear amulet and bought one on Korpiklaani’s Russian Tour 2017. He also got some items for his new stage outfit – not yet created.

Tuomas adds:
“Last spring I found her thanks to a helping friend in Irkutsk. I ordered 40 bears and was surprised as she created a totally new design for this. All of them are unique. Some are bear-cubs, some grown ups. Each has a character and shape of their own. At the end she sent me 38 bears and 2 traditional toli -amulets. It took me 3 months to get them, including a month in a Russian post and a week for Finnish customs trying to figure out what’s inside. What a relief and joy when they arrived!

I’d like every Special Edition Gift-Box CD to have one of these, but I can’t make that into a promise. Would a new order arrive in time? What if they get lost in mail? It will be hard to match them though…

Thank you all for being part of this!
Tuomas”

“Bear Awakener” focuses on bear myths of the Nordic peoples. The name “Bear Awakener” comes from a set of ceremonial songs sung during the bear feast in order to awaken the bear.

Planned release date is March 13th 2022. According to an ancient Finnish bear-calendar, this date marked the end of winter hibernation and awakening of bears.

Get ready to join and support the cause! More information TBA, so stay tuned!

TUOMAS ROUNAKARI is a violinist, composer, ethnomusicologist (MA) and an educator from Finland. He has collaborated with artists from different arctic indigenous cultures and has studied shamanism and ritualistic music of northern Eurasia. He is also considered a key figure in revitalizing the near extinct tradition of Finnish-Carelian Lament singing. For the past 9 years Rounakari has been the fiddler of folk-metal band Korpiklaani. He is also known as a Shaman-violinist thanks to his solo performance. He is a co-founder of a finnish theatre group Ruska-Ensemble and its musical director. He has done field-work among the Khanty people in Siberia.

Have a look at the Online concert from Kaustinen Folk Music Festival 2020. Shamanviolin at Pauanne is a full-length online concert produced by the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival 2020. The concert was filmed at the magical Pauanne where a community of folk musicians and folk healers used to live in the 1980’s. All buildings are fully hand made with many mythological decorations. The place has unfortunately decayed without much needed preservation. This Shamanviolin concert ends with lament melodies in a burnt down sauna. The magic and unique beauty of this place is still strong. A perfect environment for my music.

BAILER Release Video for New Single ‘There Is A Love That Remains’

Irish metallic hardcore quartet BAILER have released a video for their new single ‘There Is A Love That Remains’. The hard-hitting track is the fourth taste of their long-awaited debut album Disposable Youth, due for release on 12th November 2021 via Blood Blast Distribution.

Vocalist Alex O’Leary explains the meaning behind their new single:

“‘There Is A Love That Remains’ covers a lot of stuff at the same time for me personally, but the ultimate message/lesson is make the most of the time you get with the ones you love. You never know when it might be the last time.”

BAILER have also launched the vinyl pre-order for Disposable Youth. Pre-order the album and stream ‘There Is A Love That Remains’ here: https://bfan.link/blr

Following on from 2018’s self-titled EP (Distroy Records), 2017’s PTSD and 2016’s Shaped By The Landscape, BAILER’s ambitious collection of tracks is about to expand and truly propel their notoriety outside of their native Ireland.

Recorded, mixed, mastered and produced by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House in Southampton, Disposable Youth dives into a grim view of the world from a place of manic depression and nihilism. 100% of the material was written in a room together: no writing on computers or demos being shared around virtually. For Disposable Youth, BAILER consciously decided to write every single song in a jam room together, fleshing it all out and creating what felt right in real life. There’s nothing wrong or right about any form of creativity, but the results speak for themselves.

Having impressively garnered attention from Metal Hammer, Kerrang!, Metal Injection and Heavy Blog Is Heavy so early into their career, BAILER have proven to be Ireland’s most exhilarating heavy band. With an impressive live résumé to match, playing shows alongside Norma Jean, Sick Of It All,The Black Dahlia Murder, Conjurer, Employed To Serve, Palm Reader, Malevolence, God Mother, Coilguns and more, the quartet are setting their sights on becoming one of hardcore’s most exciting prospects.

In the years leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic, BAILER began to mark their territory further afield, having successfully toured Russia and the UK extensively in support of their EPs. Now, with their debut album on the horizon and after kicking off proceedings with Bloodstock Festival last month, BAILER are eager to get back on international stages.

Disposable Youth tracklisting:

1. Blackout
2. Bastard Son
3. Out Of Frame
4. Cruel Master
5. Strung Out
6. Scourge
7. Gateway Drug
8. No Apologies
9. There Is Love That Remains
10. Fester

THE OCEAN Release New Video ‘Jurassic / Cretaceous’

THE OCEAN have released “Jurassic / Cretaceous,” the second video from their upcoming live album, Phanerozoic Live, set for release on November 26th. The live album is a showcase of two live events performed by THE OCEAN – Live In Bremen (Part I) and Live At Roadburn Redux (Part II), and will be released by Metal Blade Records digitally worldwide. Fans eager for physical copies can pre-order the album in various formats at Pelagic Records.

“Jurassic / Cretaceous” Now Playing

Phanerozoic Live Track Listing

Phanerozoic Part I – Live in Bremen:

  1. The Cambrian Explosion
  2. Cambrian II
  3. Ordovicium
  4. Silurian
  5. Devonian
  6. The Carboniferous Rainforest Collapse
  7. Permian

Phanerozoic Part II – Live At Roadburn Redux:

  1. Triassic
  2. Jurassic | Cretaceous
  3. Palaeocene
  4. Eocene
  5. Oligocene
  6. Miocene | Pliocene
  7. Pleistocene
  8. Holocene

“Devonian” (Live in Bremen), as featured on Part I of the album, was released this past September as the first taste from Phanerozoic Live.

In early 2021 with no end of lockdowns in sight, THE OCEAN decided to thank their fans for the support with two streaming concerts, performing both Phanerozoic albums in their entirety: Phanerozoic I was streamed live from Pier 2, a big hall in the port of Bremen, Germany on March 25, 2021. With more than 1,500 tickets sold, it was the most successful show of the popular “Club 100” streaming events series thus far.

The day after this event, the band rehearsed and recorded Phanerozoic II in its entirety. This performance aired on April 16th as part of the digital edition of Roadburn Festival (this year aptly named Roadburn Redux). Both shows couldn’t have been more different: where the first part boasts with a pompous, mesmerizing lighting production on a big stage, the second part is quite the opposite: intimate, almost cozy, focused on musicianship rather than performance. “We wanted to give people two totally different experiences“, says band leader Robin Staps. “In Bremen, we had the chance to record a proper live show, the way people know us. We played facing towards the front of the stage, to an invisible crowd, essentially to a huge empty room… but we knew people were watching, even if we didn’t see them. There was the same rush of adrenaline right before going on stage as you get before going on any stage, maybe with a little extra anxiety added, because knowing that so many people are watching you without being able to see them yourself was super weird.“

The fans response to these special events was another testimony to how much THE OCEAN connect with their crowd at home in this very intense way was an experience that was “oddly beautiful and frustrating in equal measure,” according to Staps. Now as restrictions begin to lift worldwide, THE OCEAN are more than ready to show fans in-person the power of Phanerozoic Live, with select shows starting this December.

Karisma Records To Release Three Album Retrospective From Prog Rockers WOBBLER

Posted by tarjavirmakari on November 3, 2021
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: WOBBLER. Leave a comment

Whether by accident or design, Norway’s Karisma Records has gained quite a reputation for itself amongst Prog fans  for its ability to source, and release, long-unavailable, and much sought-after,  classic works from highly respected bands such as RUPHUS and ARABS IN ASPIC, to name but two.

Or, as WOBBLER, the label’s latest subject for a foray into back catalogues, would attest:

It’s fantastic for both a band and its fans to be given a chance to revisit (and for some to visit for the first time) albums that have been sold out and basically impossible to get for years now (unless you are lucky enough to find copies on the internet and are prepared to pay hundreds of dollars).

Formed in Hønefoss in 1999, WOBBLER’s current  lineup features Lars Fredrik Frøislie on keyboards and backing vocals, Martin Nordrum Kneppen on drums, percussion and recorder, Kristian Karl Hultgren on bass, Andreas Wettergreen Strømman Prestmo on vocals, guitar  and percussion, and Marius Bergom Halleland on lead guitar and backing vocals.

Having released  the band’s fourth and fifth albums, Karisma Records, will be releasing WOBBLER’s first three albums on the 28th January 2022 and they will be available either as individual releases in both CD and Limited Edition Vinyl formats, as well as a three-album, limited edition box set.

The three albums in question are:

“Hinterland”,  WOBBLER’s 2005 debut full-length ” served to bring the band to the attention of Prog scene, and, virtually overnight,  garnered them a sizeable international audience thanks to its authentic sound and complex and beautiful song writing.  The Limited edition vinyl will be available in yellow vinyl with red & white marbling, and tracklisting for “Hinterland” is as follows:

1. Serenade for 1652
2. Hinterland
3. Rubato Industry
4. Clair Obscur

The band’s second album “Afterglow” came with a more “retro” feel, not surprisingly so, given that it was a full-band re-recording of WOBBLER’s early demo.  A strong black metal influence can be heard both in the surprising power and aggression of some sections, as well as the structure and tonality of many of the riffs. Paradoxically, “Afterglow” was also a more dyed-in-the-wool proggy prog rock album, with its epic-length compositions and detours into renaissance and baroque music.  With the limited edition available in transparent vinyl with blue & black marbling, tracklisting for “Afterglow” is as follows:

1. The Haywain
2. Imperial Winter White
3. Interlude
4. In Taberna
5. Armoury

Which brings us to 2011’s “Rites at Dawn”, the third of the re-releases.  This was the album that saw WOBBLER up their game considerably, both musically and sonically, with the arrival of Andreas W. S. Prestmo on vocals.  It was his skills as a songwriter and lyricist that would raise the band to a whole new level where vocal melodies, lyrics, arrangements and performances came together in a cohesive whole.

“Rites at Dawn” reflected Andreas’ preoccupations with nature and spirituality in words and music that took on a luminous, mystical nature. It was also an album where Lars’ production skills came to the fore, with a mix that was crystal clear, showcasing each individual musician’s newfound maturity. Martin’s drums had never sounded better, and the intricacies and grooves of his playing were perfectly married to Kristian’s Rickenbacker, that wove its way between Lars and Morten’s labyrinthine chords and leads in a remarkably melodic, yet inventive way.

The limited edition of “Rites at Dawn” will be available in transparent yellow vinyl with blue & black marbling.  Tracklisting is as follows:

1. Lucid
2. Lá Bealtaine
3. In Orbit
4. This Past Presence
5. A Faerie’s Play
6. The River
7. Lucid Dreams

The box set will be a limited edition, one-time pressing,  and will include exclusive coloured vinyl versions of all three albums, along with a slip mat and an illustrated booklet.

All versions are now available to pre-order from:

Webshop:  https://www.karismarecords.no/kar208-kar209-kar210-wobbler/
Bandcamp: https://wobbler.bandcamp.com
US Webshop: https://karismarecords.indiemerch.com

WOBBLER had this to say about the upcoming re-releases:

These albums are what we refer to as “the Morten years”, since Morten Andreas Eriksenwas our guitarist on these first three albums, and a very important part of what we were about. “Hinterland” and “Afterglow” also features Tony Johannessenon vocals, making the third album, “Rites at Dawn”, a sort of a transition album between the old Wobbler and the new Wobbler, as it features Andreas on vocals. Musically, these albums are quite diverse. They show different aspects of Wobbler; being the roots of what eventually became “From Silence To Somewhere” and “Dwellers of The Deep”.

A video, filmed and edited by Mike Drop, for the track  “Five Rooms” from WOBBLERS 2020 album “Dwellers of the Deep” can be seen below.
