Ukrainian blackened death/doom metal visionaries 1914 continue to reflect the gruesome tales of World War I, its soldiers’ fate, their death, fear and feats to be never forgotten on their sinister third epos, Where Fear and Weapons Meet, out this Friday, October 22, 2021 via Napalm Records. After smashing their massive first treat “…And a Cross Now Marks His Place”, feat. none other than Paradise Lost icon Nick Holmes, followed by scorching “Pillars of Fire (The Battle of Messines)”, the Ukrainian WWI experts now reveal the secret of their third single “FN .380 ACP#19074”, alongside a thrilling lyric video.

The track breaks in with a majestic yet intimidating orchestra, heavy guitar lines, thunderous black metal drumming like a blaze of gunfire and raw vocal power. It reflects the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife 1914 in Sarajevo, an event that caused the outbreak of World War I.

Ditmar Kumarberg comments:
“This track marks the beginning of the entire conflict – the assassination of Franz Ferdinand – the event that triggered the conflict that had been brewing for the last 10 years. The royal houses of Europe wanted this war, it was inevitable – technical progress, territorial claims and dissatisfaction of people led to this. And so, the Yugoslav nationalist Gavrilo Princip fired the shots that launched the process. Two shots from a .380 ACP FN Model 1910 pistol numbered 19074, which changed the world forever, collapsed large empires and killed tens of millions of people.”

Watch the video for “FN .380 ACP#19074” HERE:

1914 break into their third offering with the intro “War In”, summed up by final “War Out”, and immediately build a common thread to the previous records. “War In” is the original of the most famous Serbian song of the Great War period, “Tamo Daleko”. Like World War I, the album begins in Serbia and continues on the first track from the prospective of Gavrilo Princip, who assassinated Franz Ferdinand and his wife on June 28, 1914.

What happens next is an intense, in-depth analysis of historical events. For example – Battle of Vimy Ridge, shameful pages of the British Empire history in the track “Coward” featuring Sasha Boole (Me And That Man), The Battle of Messines on “Pillars of Fire” or the infantry regiment, the Harlem Hellfighters, on “Don’t Tread On Me”. Authentic forces like ambient sonic war samplings transport these stories even further into the present and make Where Fear and Weapons Meet another heavily intense and deep-reaching output that will grant 1914 even higher appreciation than the five-piece is already credited with.

1914 on the album:
“Where Fear and Weapons Meet continues the theme we started on The Blind Leading the Blind – with one major difference: these are the stories about hope where most of our characters are staying alive, becoming heroes, and returning back to their homes. Yes, it is still about fear, death, and senselessness of war, but the hope is the only thing the soldier holds on to. And a good portion of luck as well. Even the album cover reflects this – the man lays wounded, bleeding in the trench, reaching his hand to Death begging for relieve, and Death declines to take him. He deserves to live.

The album starts with the assassination in Sarajevo, leads you through the bloodiest moments of the Great War, and ends up with the monologue on a grave of a young man killed in his first battle. This time we did have even more hard digging into the historical background while making the tracks. We are not singing the songs, we are telling the stories!”

Pre-Order Where Fear and Weapons Meet HERE

1914’s eleven new tracks of pure historic harshness follow up to the band’s sophomore full-length, The Blind Leading the Blind (2018), and debut, Eschatology of War (2015), both highly acclaimed amongst critics, and create a sophisticated variety of massively brutal blackened death metal accented by dramatic and realistic audio soundscapes and disquieting melodies spiced with the approach of sludge and doom!

DREAM THEATER’s James LaBrie Talks About New Album, IRON MAIDEN Opportunity

Jimmy Kay and Alex Dixon from Canada’s The Metal Voice spoke to DREAM THEATER Singer James LeBrie. LaBrie talked about the bands new album, the postponed North American tour and his Opportunity with Iron Maiden in the past.

When asked about the postponed North American tour
“It just came down to how comfortable we were with going out and we were getting kind of mixed messages. from promoters, our agencies and all across the board. When you put together a tour the amount of money that you put into a tour is astronomical and the kind of production we go out with is pretty big, it’s pretty substantial. So we were getting a lot of indication that the bands that had been going out were out for a week or two then somebody in the band or crew would come down with Covid and the whole camp had to be shut down, that is financially disabling for any tour. If I want to be completely honest with you it was not  a unanimous decision there three of us that said no we are not going out and there  were two of us who said come on let’s do it and that’s what it came down to, it was a majority vote we’re not about to go out.”

When asked about the new album
“I think we always stood true to ourselves first and foremost. So there is an identity  there is a familiarity there so when people spin any given Dream Theater album you can identify with it, immediately. A lot of fans that have heard any snippet of the new album,  have said wow it seems to be reminiscent of some older classic Dream Theater. We definitely reached back into our roots. We knew before going into the studio we wanted to write an epic, everyone was on board for that. So when you know you are going to do something like that it opens up all the possibilities for the rest of the album to unfold as such. This album was like let’s get back to not having any parameters that we need to be concerned with consciously and just let’s write what we feel to create a classic Dream Theater album and I think it really does stand on it’s own.”

When asked if he ever was asked to join Iron Maiden When Bruce Dickinson left the band
“Absolutely, at the time we were looking at being managed by Iron Maiden’s management. You have to remember I was in a very bizarre situation. Dream Theater already recorded Images and Words, we were looking for management and we were trying to set up a tour and get out there and we met Rod Smallwood.  We were playing darts and Rod Smallwood took me aside and I remember him saying to me, I just want to throw something at you and he had his assistant with him too Mark at the time. And they are both standing there going, what do you think about being the singer with Iron Maiden. And I said What?  What are we talking about here? I am confused?  Are you not here for the reason that you might start managing Dream Theater or are to get me to become the singer. So I just said no, no way. I am going to tell you the reasons why I’m not going to do this and they said what is that. And I said, one Dream Theater, that’s it, period. I remember thinking I am not going to go out there and sing Iron Maiden every night even though I think they are a great band and Bruce is a great singer. No Thank you.  I needed to create something that I created from the beginning, even though I was not on the first Dream Theater  album. It was all respect, they totally got it and we moved on.”

DEATH ANGEL To Unleash “The Bastard Tracks” On November 26th + Watch The Live Video For ‘Where They Lay’

Bay Area thrash legends DEATH ANGEL have announced plans to release a new live record titled “The Bastard Tracks” on Black Friday, November 26th with Nuclear Blast. Recorded live at The Great American Music Hall in their hometown of San Francisco on May 22nd, 2021, and streamed live soon after, “The Bastard Tracks” is a deep cuts collection of rarely and never performed songs from the band’s celebrated catalog that will be released digitally and on CD, Vinyl and Blu-Ray.

Pre-order “The Bastard Tracks” here: http://www.nuclearblast.com/deathangel-tbt

Commenting on the record, vocalist Mark Osegueda states:
“When we performed and filmed the songs for ‘The Bastard Tracks’ it was such a crazy time and having missed being able to perform live for so long was taking it’s toll on me to a certain degree as I have been a live performer for the majority of my life..

I must say…It was a pretty dark time. I know it was for so many of us…But! Music once again helped to pull us through it…It was a bit odd performing to no crowd…But! It felt great re-learning some deep tracks and getting on stage with the guys and unleashing this pent up aggression! And the response from everyone who tuned into it suggesting that we release it as an album was overwhelming! Well
Thanks to them here it is! I hope you enjoy it!”

Adding to that, guitarist Rob Cavestany says:
“Choosing and sequencing the songs for ‘The Bastard Tracks’ set list was quite a different trip. All of them had rarely (and in some instances never) been played live. We hadn’t performed in front of a live audience for over a year, the longest ever for this band. It was to be filmed live at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco and then broadcast worldwide on the good ol’ inter-web! I could get into that

From basically re-learning most of these songs to getting them as tight as they should be, we put our energy together and made it happen! I’m thankful for having had this goal to focus on during those (still) crazy earth crisis days. It gave us an important reason to get together at DA Studio and JAM! Literally the only time I’ve felt “normal” since 2020 was while we were jamming! Fortunately we’ve been able to do it a lot. Now, we proudly present the audio and visual recordings of those sessions. Turn it up!
P.S. – We cannot wait to exchange live energy with you as soon as possible!!”

Today, the band has revealed the record’s first single and live music video for “Where They Lay.”

Osegueda says of the new track:
“‘Where They Lay’ is a prime example of a DEATH ANGEL Bastard track! We have rarely played this song live and I’m guessing the last time we did was 2010! I love the release I get singing this song. Namely because the screaming bits I do are so cathartic!!! And I need a release during these crazy times! And screaming is one of my favorite ways to get frustration out of my system!! I look forward to screaming in front of a live audience again soon!”

Cavestany adds:
“Rise! This empowering message echoes thru the entire song from the first note to the last.  Where They Lay is one of our pure thrash cuts with those chugging riffs, pounding grooves and vicious lyrics that incites head banging and thrashing!  It’s so fun to play on guitar, I love the percussive, rhythmic attack and the solos are so twangy.  I’m stoked to include it in the set and to launch it as the first single from our upcoming release ‘The Bastard Tracks.'”

RÏCÏNN Unveils Stunning Animated Video ‘Doris’ Feat. Travis Ryan

Experimental French vocalist / composer RÏCÏNN (Laure Le Prunenec) has unveiled the stunning new video to the single ‘Doris’, which features guest vocals from Travis Ryan of Cattle Decapitation. The animated video, which was entirely digitally hand-drawn by German artist Marius. M. Muench, marks the one year anniversary of RĂŻcĂŻnn‘s ground-breaking new album NereĂŻd, out now via Blood Music.

Marius commented on the video and his creative process: â€œDrawing gives me the ability to create my own unique worlds, to tell stories from distant lands defined by my pen, but expanded by any viewer’s imagination and therefore hold secrets that not even I may know, even though I have drawn the fundamentals of it.

“Laure does the same with her music, voice and language, so it was quite exciting to see what happens when we combine both our ways and create a third realm that consists of both her musical universe and the universe of my drawings.

“Together with the tribal drums of Sylvain Bouvier, the apocalyptic scream of Travis Ryan textured by the guitars of Eran Segal, and conducted by the strings of cellist, Raphael Verguin, mixed and mastered by DĂ©hĂĄ Amsg and now accompanied by my drawings, RĂŻcĂŻnn created a child holding parts of all our imaginations, a child named Doris.

“Or how the creator of both our favourite series would put it “There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge.’ (Rodman Edward Serling, The Twilight Zone)

“It is an area which we call ‘The Doris Zone’.”

Watch the video to previous single ‘PsamatĂ€e’ here: https://youtu.be/9tE8_oQpX4Q

In a world of appearances, RĂŻcĂŻnn was born from the desire to remain true to her instrument, the voice.
As a child, she cooked remedies, formulas, and prayers to serve them to the world. An expression of ‘The Now’. Fire & water, whales & birds, sounds emanating from the mist, blown by the windy shore, spitting the scrambling wreckage of a damaged arch, vestige from an ancient and forgotten civilisation, flooded into the oversights of time.

RĂŻcĂŻnn appears as the lonely survivor of a pre-post apocalyptic universe, a new world in which she bereaves the loss of her unknown culture.

NereĂŻd is a concoction of many cultures, assimilated and included with her own language. The experience of an incarnation in the material world, falling into the living, as the nymphs of Poseidon move the ocean, making choices, harmonising the rhythms of nature.

Known for her work as female vocalist for breakcore outfit Igorrr, experimental gothic funeral metal band Ă–xxö Xööx, and experimental trip-hop unit Corpo-Mente; RĂŻcĂŻnn‘sbeautiful, solo work lies in the realm of funeral opera – with nearly all composition, instrumentation, and imagery created by the artist herself.

The result is a celestial dance, moving into unexpected explosions of terror, each sacred in their own right.

For fans of Diamanda Galås, Chelsea Wolfe, Klaus Nomi and Bjork.

HEAVY WATER Release Single And Lyric Video ‘Tree In The Wind’

Father/son power-house HEAVY WATER release the heartfelt single ‘Tree In The Wind’ today, which is taken from their debut album, Red Brick City, out now via Silver Lining Music.

‘Tree In The Wind’ is evocative, delicate, yet delivers a powerful uplifting message. The track is completely different to that of both Byford’s previous musical endeavours, clearly displaying the multi-faceted talents of the duo.

“We wrote this about surviving through these hard times it’s a song of hope and survival” reflects Biff and Seb Byford.

Heavy Water’s debut album Red Brick City is the result of a lockdown 2020 project between Saxon’s Biff Byford and his son Seb Byford, ten songs which bring you on an irrepressible raw blues-backed journey through influences and invention, a journey which has you hooked from the first note.

The foundations for Heavy Water’s sound are set in both that incredible father/son chemistry and a lifetime of know-how and experiences. Take the title track -and first single- ‘Red Brick City’: all steam and smoulder wrapped around a riff Soundgarden would’ve been proud of, and then there’s the sun-soaked smile of ‘Follow This Moment’ with harmonies evoking the Beach Boys relayed through Led Zeppelin, a gorgeous ‘70s trip right down to the fade out. Indeed, from the taut, elastic swing of the ‘Solution’ riff to the rich, layered balladic strains of ‘Tree in the Wind’, Red Brick City moves with the class and cadence of a cracking journey uniting vintage Rock ‘n’ Roll sensibilities with the crackle and excitement of a fresh, youthful perspective.

Seb Byford recorded and engineered Red Brick City at the Big Silver Barn in York, UK, while the drums were recorded by Ben Hammond at Reel Recording Studio in York. Seb produced the album with Biff, and Jacky Lehmann mastered. Red Brick City sees Seb take the reins on guitar and vocals, with Biff taking up the bass and vocal mantle. Tom Witts plays the drums, while Dave Kemp rounds out the Heavy Water line-up on keyboards and saxophone. A rich, lustrous ride through profoundly rewarding rock waters. To cap off this family affair, the packaging photos were taken by Steph Byford.

Red Brick City is out now, via Silver Lining Music. Available as a CD Digipak, Coloured Vinyl Album, digital formats and special D2C bundles. To order, go to THIS LOCATION
