Iconic singer, songwriter, guitarist, and ALICE IN CHAINS co-founder JERRY CANTRELL has released of the title track from his new LP “Brighten”. The full LP will be released on October 29, 2021 and is available for pre-order and pre-save. HERE

Consequence premiered the video and lauded the song and video, saying, “True to its title, “Brighten” is an uplifting late-summer jam. Heavy chords blend with Cantrell’s sweetly sung melodies, accentuated by lush and organic production. The video sees Jerry and company joyously rocking out, showing off an impressive arsenal of electric guitars.”

LISTEN TO “BRIGHTEN”

Talking about “Brighten”, Jerry says, “Pretty early on, I knew “Brighten” was the cornerstone track of the album, and it seemed to fit the body of work as a title. There’s plenty of darkness and edge, but there’s also some light, space, and good vibes.”

The video, directed by Gilbert Trejo, son of renowned actor Danny Trejo, is loosely based on the fabled “Lotus Eaters” from Homer’s Odyssey.  It depicts a story of a man having a psychedelic experience as a result of eating flowers; a “Lotus Eater” is a person who spends their time indulging in instant gratification, pleasure and luxury rather than dealing with anything practical. The story is interspersed with an impassioned live performance from Jerry, Tyler Bates on bass, Greg Puciato on backing vocals and guitar, drummer Abe Laboriel Jr, and pianist Vincent Jones.

Upon release of the previous song, Rolling Stone writer Jon Blistein said, “Atone” is a heavy track, although it’s undergirded by a sinister twang while the guitar riffs hit with grit and menace, as well as a bit of psychedelic unease. “Running out of time,” Cantrell wails right before the hook, “Gotta find a way to atone/Gotta find a way to atone/Trying to find a way to atone.”

Over the past year, he co-produced Brighten with film composer Tyler Bates [300, John Wick], and Paul Fig (long-time Engineer). Reflecting a classic spirit, they welcomed a dynamic cast of supporting players including, Duff McKagan [Guns N’ Roses, Loaded] on select bass tracks, Greg Puciato [Dillinger Escape Plan] contributing to backing vocals and drummers Gil Sharone and Abe Laboriel, Jr. (Paul McCartney). Additional musicians on the album include, pedal steel master Michael Rozon, Vincent Jones on piano, Wurlitzer, and organ, Jordan Lewis on piano, Matias Ambrogi-Torres on strings, and Lola Bates on select additional backing vocals. Joe Barresi [Tool, Queens of the Stone Age] handled the mixing of Brighten.

Brighten is available for pre-order everywhere and limited edition “Brighten” single merch and vinyl is available via Jerry’s webstore now.

LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR Present Second Track ‘There Are Many Shadows’

Three weeks before the official release of their second album “Charnel Noir” via Debemur Morti Productions, LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR unveil their new composition ‘There Are Many Shadows‘. Atmospheric and truly sinister, this song displays the band’s adoration for dark Gothic Rock with a deadly twist. Though hints of Black Metal influences are present, the dynamic songwriting as well as the flamboyant fascination for subtle melodies and whispery vocals define their composition. Those who adore the eerie beauty of a great Gothic novel will immediately fall prey to LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR‘s sinister magic.

‘There Are Many Shadows‘ can now be streamed via Bandcamp and on YouTube:

In essence, ‘There Are Many Shadows‘ captures the feeling of dread and horror when being haunted in an old, abandoned Victorian manor. Those who are aware of Black Metal’s finest might find a mysterious reference here…

Nine seductive compositions form “Charnel Noir“:

01. Charnel Noir
02. Our Night Hours
03. Ghost Moon
04. Hymn In Hemlock
05. Lid Of A Casket
06. There Are Many Shadows
07. The Endless Procession Of The Guillotine
08. Spectres
09. Fangs In The Tree Of Life

“Charnel Noir” will be released on CD and digitally on October 1st. The vinyl version will be available on December 10th. Pre-orders are possible now via the label’s EU, US, and Bandcamp shops.

LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR is an unending prayer to the darkness of the world. It is the glow of graves at midnight. It is the voidshadows that shiver and move between crumbling tombs. It is the fangs in the tree of life.

LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR is a ritualistic summoning of gloom, unholy radiance, and the ghosts of darker times.

LIGHT OF THE MORNING STAR is vampirism, necromancy, and Devil worship.

They have always been huge fans of Black Sabbath and especially the song Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. The song has so many layers and textures that the band wanted to give it our best effort. After consideration, they decided to release it as single in tribute to the God Fathers of metal.

The song was orginally released on the Black Sabbath album Sabbath Bloody Sabbath in 1973.

FOTOCRIME Shares New Music Video For “Crystal Caves”

Released last week on Bandcamp and physical formats, FOTOCRIME delivers their magnum opus Heart of Crime to digital streaming platforms today. Additionally, they’ve unveiled the noir-tinged music video for the album’s third single – the chilling, haunting “Crystal Caves.”

Fotocrime mastermind Ryan Patterson comments: “’Crystal Caves’ is an experimental song for me on many levels, stepping into Kentucky folk history lyrically and into Bass VI-driven dreamscapes musically. The narrative of the song is told from the perspective of real-life amateur cave explorer Floyd Collins who was trapped in the cave on his property known as Crystal Cave during the ‘Cave Wars’ for roadside tourist attractions in Kentucky in the 1920s. The attempts and ultimate failure to rescue him became a media sensation and a part of local folklore, inspiring movies and songs by Billy Wilder, John Prine, and others over the past century.” Patterson continues, “Offering my own slant on this story from my home state’s history, I used this framework to explore my fears of emotional and physical claustrophobia, as well as the brutal power of nature. The song is elevated by beautiful backing vocals from Janet Morgan, of Dischord Records band Channels, percussion by illustrator/musician Ben Sears, and a mix by J. Robbins. Despite the dark song, my little saxophone outro always puts a smile on my face.”

Patterson has spent over two-and-a-half decades adding to his headquarters’ – Louisville, KY – legacy with his impassioned and activist-minded approach to music, his distinctive work as a graphic artist, and his contributions to nearly every aspect of creative underground culture. After his time fronting forward-thinking art-inflected punk bands, Patterson looked to the urban centers of London, New York, and Berlin for new sonic inspiration, drawing from the passion of his roots while tapping into the sounds of classic EBM and post-punk artists for Fotocrime.

On Heart of Crime, we hear the earnestness of the heartland fused with Patterson’s ties to the asceticism of the urban underground, like a post-punk Leonard Cohen. We’re also hearing an aspect of Fotocrime that’s a response and reaction to the times and available resources. It’s a record that yearns for a world outside our doors, that begs to be blasted on a massive PA in a seedy nightclub or a black-walled venue. It sounds steeped in isolation and reflection, but it reminds us of the communal experience of getting lost in a sea of people while the sound of a bass drum kicks our chests.

Heart of Crime is out now on digital and physical formats from Profound Lore Records; listen to and order the album here.

IGNEA Announce Split With ERSEDU; New Single Unveiled

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 12, 2021
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: ERSEDU, IGNEA. Leave a comment

In June 2021, IGNEA signed a deal with Napalm Records and started working on the third album that is planned for 2022.

Before bringing the new full-length record to the world, the band treats its fans with the split EP BESTIA recorded together with their friends ERSEDU.

BESTIA is a concept EP about the human nature of Ukrainian mythological creatures and the world’s duality. In Ukrainian, BESTIA (Ukr. «бестія») means both a savage beast and a mischievous person. This is a split record that consists of songs by two Ukrainian bands — IGNEA and ERSEDU — and is a result of their 10-year friendship.

BESTIA will be out on all streaming platforms on October 21, 2021, as well as on digipak CD and vinyl. The physical formats will also contain The symphony of BESTIA — a mix of orchestral arrangements used in the five songs from the EP. The pre-order for merch and CDs starts on September 10 on IGNEA’s website. The pre-order for vinyl starts on September 15 at RockMark.

The new single Mermaids is available on all platforms – https://ffm.to/mermaids

The EP starts with two songs by IGNEA. Bosorkun is an intense fast-paced track that sounds like the Carpathian wind: fierce and chill, rapid and still, unpredictable and changing, unstoppable, powerful, yet lighter than feathers. According to Ukrainian mythology, Bosorkun is an evil mountain spirit who kills with the power of the wind and sends drought and illnesses to people and animals. In IGNEAs’ song though, he’s a ‘spirit with a kind but destructive nature’ who wants to make friends with humans and trade his immortality for their world.

The second track is sung on behalf of the Slavic valkyrie, the winged, warlike, cloud maiden, the daughter of the Thunderer Perun — Magura. With her wings, she overshadows the brave soldiers fallen on the battlefield, touches their lips, and gives them the living water to drink from a golden cup. This is how these soldiers end up in Vyriy, the heavenly palace for eternal life. In Magura’s Last Kiss, Magura is fed up with wars and says that ‘peace can be bold and knightly’. To end all fightings, she kisses herself, goes to Vyriy herself.

Mermaids is a song about Ukrainian mavkas (sirens) who cannot find their place anywhere: neither on the shore nor in the waters. Just like humans, they are bored when their life is in balance, and they’re trapped in the problems that they create on their own. This song features both bands and is also accompanied by a cinematic music video that will premiere on September 15.

The second part of the EP consists of ERSEDU’s two songs about the dual nature of the world. Black Garden tells the story of Zmiy, the Ukrainian dragon who could destroy and poison the gardens and lands but also take away disasters from humans. Seduction of the girl by Zmiy is a popular folklore plot, and this is what actually happens in the song: Zmiy seduces the girl with his black love and she accepts him, dissolving in his nature.

The Eaters of the Sun is a cosmogonic myth about the ambivalence of kindness and evil, light and darkness, the neverending cycle of day and night. The Sun — the embodiment of the supreme god and goodness, blind obedience to dogmas — can burn and destroy lives. Darkness — the personification of evil and independence — can save from the deadly blinding light, become a savior and ensure critical thinking. The Eaters of the Sun is the hymn of balance and rational human who accepts light and darkness as his parts, and himself as the part of Cosmos and bestial creatures.

Tracklist:
1. Bosorkun
2. Magura’s Last Kiss
3. Mermaids
4. Black Garden
5. The Eaters of the Sun
