Having recently signed a worldwide deal with Century Media and entering the single charts all over the globe with the single “Dark Side” – BLIND CHANNEL, rising new metal stars from Finland – release their equally beguiling follow-up single, “Balboa”!
“Balboa’s” powerful Eurovision predecessor “Dark Side”, with more than 40 million streams to date, set the bar incredibly high, but “Balboa” is easily an equivalent triumph, striking another hammer blow to further establish Blind Channel’s very own brand of ‘Violent-Pop.’
The band comments:
”Balboa is a reminder of who we are – who we have always been. It’s a violent pop showoff about getting back up again and again, no matter how hard you’ve been hit. It’s us sticking to our vision without compromise. Underdogs are a dangerous species. This is a call to arms to every hardworking dreamer out there, and the soundtrack of our career so far. We keep coming back.”
The release of the new single is also accompanied by a spectacular music video. Filmed in a boxing gym, it lives up to the promise of title.
For LORNA SHORE, the triumvirate of songs at the heart of …And I Return to Nothingness – EP are nothing short of an exorcism – and a plunge into something darker. In time for the release of the EP the band is unleashing a band new video for the title track, “…And I Return To Nothingness” that was directed by Joey Durango. Make sure to catch the premiere at 5pm CET/11am ET/8am PT here:
In June the band dropped their viral track and music video for “To The Hellfire”, which has over 2.8 million views and racked up over 4.1 million Spotify streams alone. The track debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the Spotify Viral 50 chart and has been used in 2,000 TikTok videos, including the viral reaction video by Nik Nocturnal, which has over 4.4 million views to date. Additionally, fans have been posting their own renditions of the breakdown in “To The Hellfire” for the #LornaShoreChallenge, with close to 39 million views and counting.
“…And I Return to Nothingness” introduces their new frontman, Will Ramos (A Wake In Providence), a longtime friend and veteran of the scene that birthed the band. LORNA SHORE began what was to be both a trial by fire and a victory lap on the European Faces of Death tour, headlined by Polish thrashers, Decapitated. They held their own and won over crowds only to face the challenge of the tour being cancelled and being a continent away as the world shut down amidst the wildfire spread of COVID-19. In that time, the seeds of …And I Return to Nothingness were sown. As the world locked down, DeMicco, Archey, Ramos and guitarist Andrew O’ Connor plunged deeper into the creative instincts that initially made LORNA SHORE a fixture in the extreme metal scene. Embellished with artwork by noted Polish painter Mariusz Lewandowski (Bell Witch, Fuming Mouth), …And I Return to Nothingness reaffirms LORNA SHORE’s creative focus and intensity. Teaming once again with Immortal producer Josh Schroeder at Random Awesome Studios in Midland, Michigan, the band was ready to take the next step. The EP’s three tracks: “To the Hellfire”, “Of the Abyss” and the title track are proof that LORNA SHORE isn’t just continuing their fiery legacy, they’re reigniting it and spectacularly setting their very legacy ablaze. Swedish hard rock legend THE QUILL have released the video for “Left Brain Blues”. The song is taken from the current studio album “Earthrise” (Metalville Records).
Watch the video below.
With a sound based on a wide range of influences, the band has released one high-quality album after another since their debut in 1995.
The dynamic interplay between original vocalist Magnus Ekwall (Ayreon, Mountain of Power), drummer Jolle Atlagic (Hanoi Rocks, Electric Boys, Firebird), guitarist Christian Carlsson (Cirkus Prütz) and bassist Roger Nilsson (Spiritual Beggars, Arch Enemy, Firebird) creates THE QUILL’s unique, deep 70s heavy rock.
No frills, just real rock at full throttle!
The tracks on “Earthrise” tell stories of alienation set in the confines of space and time. Perhaps not a surprising theme given the state of the world today. But it’s also a theme that runs through the entire history of mankind so far.
Packed with catchy riffs, pounding bass lines and a fantastic frontman, this album will once again delight all fans of honest hard rock.
On September 3rd, PORTRAIT will release their new album, At One with None, via Metal Blade Records. For a preview of At One with None, a video for the new single, “Curtains (The Dumb Supper)”, can be viewed here:
The previously released track, “Phantom Fathomer”, can be heard at: metalblade.com/portrait – where the record can also be pre-ordered in various formats.
When it comes to modern heavy metal, there are few bands operating at the same level as Portrait. For a decade and a half, the Swedish unit have been forging their own path, and in the process, infusing life into a longstanding, well-established genre and taking it in new directions. Following up 2017’s acclaimed Burn The World, they return with the mighty At One With None, which was recorded at JFK Studios in Kristianstad, Sweden with Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Hatesphere) handling the mixing. While Portrait fans will immediately recognize it as the work of their heroes, they are not simply rehashing old ideas and treading where they have before. “One simple ‘rule’ that I have had personally is that no song written for this album and onwards should be similar to any song that we have already written and released. We have been doing this for 15 years now, and I am proud to say that I think we have managed to find our own identity and sound, which can’t really be said about that many bands today. This is our greatest achievement, and the goal is to keep exploring and developing our own sound, without repeating ourselves.” The results of working with this philosophy are undeniable, making for an essential addition to the Portrait canon.
