GOAT TORMENT comments on the track: “Here is our second promo track from the new album. ‘Disorder and Disruption’ is the annihilation of everything while all worlds shake into one. The speaking tongues resonate through the bowels of the earth and through the dwelling eternal fires. The kingdom’s key has made its’ turn and barriers are torn apart!“
Karisma Records have inked a deal with WHITE WILLOW founder Jacob Holm-Lupo for the release of six out of the seven studio albums from the Norwegian Prog legends whose long history started around 1992 when guitarist Jacob Holm-Lupo, who at that time was a member of the POLICE/BRUCE HORNSBY-inspired pop band THE ORCHID GARDEN, and keyboard player Jan Tariq Rahman from a local jazz-rock/prog rock band DUGGVÅTE DVERGER, got together to assess if they had any songwriting chemistry. The result was the song “Snowfall”, written whilst sitting on the floor playing acoustic guitar and clavinet, and the rest, as they say, is history.
WHITE WILLOW’s debut full-length “Ignis Fatuus” was released in 1995 to glowing revues and became a runaway hit on the burgeoning prog revival scene. Just how much of a hit it was came as a complete surprise to the band, who, unaware of the album’s success, showed up later that year at the Los Angeles’ Progfest ’95 for their second ever live performance, only to find themselves in front of an audience that numbered in the thousands who had come specifically to see them.
From thereon, the band formed part of the spearhead of what was to subsequently become known as the Third Wave of progressive rock, along with other Scandinavian bands like ÄNGLAGÅRD (whose drummer would later join WHITE WILLOW), LANDBERK and ANEKDOTEN. The band went on to earn the accolade as “one of the most significant progressive groups of the current era” in Billboard’s “Guide to Progressive Music”.
The history of WHITE WILLOW’s lineup is somewhat complicated by the comings and goings of its various members over the years, so suffice it to say that only Holm-Lupo has been with the band since its inception, whilst WOBBLERS Lars Fredrik Frøislie has been a mainstay since 2001.
Whilst inevitably changing over time, WHITE WILLOW’s sound is frequently centered around female vocals and an expanded instrumentation that usually includes a host of analogue synthesizers, mellotron, woodwinds and strings, in addition, of course to traditional rock instrumentation.
Citing influences that range from the likes of prog stalwarts GENESIS and KING CRIMSON to pop legends ABBA, WHITE WILLOW has, in turn, been quoted as an inspiration by bands ranging from doom Metallers CATHEDRAl and Norway’s ENSLAVED to German neo-proggers FREQUENCY DRIFT whose name is actually taken from a White Willow lyric..
WHITE WILLOW has now become a studio project exclusively, helmed by Holm-Lupo and often featuring guest appearances from prominent musicians such as Norway’s guitar hero Hedvig Mollestad, or internationally renowned klezmer clarinetist David Krakauer. The band’s latest album to date is 2017’s “Future Hopes” (which is not scheduled for re-release), and which featured a specially commissioned album cover by Roger Dean.
The prospect of seeing WHITE WILLOW’s past hard work being once again brought to the attention of its old fans, and the idea that new fans will be able to discover for themselves the significant contribution the band has made to the Prog scene over the years is something that Holm-Lupo is relishing:
White Willow are extremely proud to be working with the talented people at Karisma, and looking forward to bring these albums out to the fans.
One of the challenges we’ve had with White Willow is that a lot of material has been lost in the mists of time. Our recording sessions in the early days were not particularly organized, and we worked in various studios over extended, and often interrupted, periods of time.
Hence the previous attempts at remastering have used secondary and tertiary source material, to varying results. This time we have done the deep forensic work and have recovered original, pristine master tapes for most of the material. It’s been time-consuming, but it will definitely be worth it.
Well versed in the difficulties, and joys, that can come when bringing back to life back catalogues and long-unavailable releases from legendary Prog names, Karisma Records were more than up for the challenge. Having worked extensively with Holm-Lupo in his capacity as mastering engineer the label knows what he is capable of, and had this to say :
Jacob Holm-Lupo, who is these days a renowned mastering engineer with his Dude Ranch Studio, is doing the restoring and remastering with audiophile, analog equipment to ensure the most faithful and detailed restoration possible. We are also aiming to restore the original artwork of the albums wherever possible.
No date has yet been set for the release of the WHITE WILLOW back catalogue, but Karisma Records have confirmed that the following six albums will be included:
Ignis Fatuus – 1995 Ex Tenebris – 1998 Sacrament – 2000 Storm Season – 2004 Signal to Noise – 2006 Terminal Twilight – 2011
FOUR STROKE BARON are currently premiering the third single from their upcoming album, Classics, via Knotfest – titled Khera. The music video sees FOUR STROKE BARON stranded in a desert purgatory with a meta narrative of the Reno, NV duo rewatching their previously released videos. The compelling visual only heightens the band’s signature progressive rock and pop hooks, continuing Classics‘ lyrical narrative.
FOUR STROKE BARON‘s Classics, mixed by Devin Townsend, is due out via Prosthetic Records on October 1 – preorderhere.
Of the new single, Kirk Witt (vocals and guitar) comments: “I murdered Matt after he beat me at Monopoly, and that same night I was strangled to death in a casino parking lot. We’re now forced to produce and watch our own music videos continuously in a very comfortable purgatory.”
Previously released singles, Sundowner and Friday Knight, respectively tell tales of being trapped inside a casino during a robbery – with the added exacerbating element of being on acid – and a murderous rampage at a kegger whilst dressed as a knight, setting the tone for the rest of the album. Having streamlined into a duo, Kirk Witt and Matt Vallarino cast a sardonic eye over the human condition – as seen through their own uniquely distorted lens. They are our guides as we traverse the filthiest folds in the dark underbelly of Reno, Nevada; illuminating the darkest corners of their twisted psyches with their upbeat and insanely catchy pop hooks.
The distinctive dynamic between the duo has undoubtedly solidified their songwriting chops and allowed them to be more bold in their approach when writing Classics. Embracing their intense relationship, which they put down to vibrating at the same frequency, they gave themselves permission to go down whatever weird rabbit holes presented themselves. The only rule they set was that there had to be a memorable melody to each and every track. They then enlisted the only person they knew who could add the extra layer of embellishment that the album required. Enter Devin Townsend. The added textures brought in by Townsend during mixing elevate these ten tracks to another level.
Sometimes it’s necessary to allow time to pass to reveal the true nature of a classic track; FOUR STROKE BARON have shaved the waiting time all the way down to zero. It will soon be time to hit play – the classics will all be there waiting for you.

Finnish melodic death metallers VOIDFALLEN will release their debut album The Atlas of Spiritual Apocalypse on October 8th 2021. Now they have unleashed new music video and a single The Slaves of the Echo Chambers.
The music video for this song was shot in Helsinki, in the capable care of the crew of Tiivistämö. With this video the band wanted to bring out the live spirit of the band in the same vein as the video for the song “The Daughters”, this time without live audience due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic.
The Slaves of the Echo Chambers is the other half of its predecessing single “Sui Generis” which continues the pondering of how people blindly believe in them being extraordinary, this time from a different perspective.
Band backgrounds the new single: The Slaves of the Echo Chambers, just like Sui Generis, was born very quickly. The catchy melody of the chorus is the first thing written and at the same time the core of the song, rest of the song was built around it. While writing the lyrics it became evident that to reach its full potential the song required vocals that differ from the usual output of the band in addition to what the fans are used to. Vesa Salovaara of Vorna and Ephemerald was chosen as the best candidate for this particular song and he also took on the challenge. The end result turned out to be perfect.
Voidfallen started as a two man project of Tommi and Henri. The goal of the band was to learn from past mistakes and create npw art without compromises. On 2019 the band released their first EP titled “The Sinners, the Plague and the Voidfallen” which lead to a series of live shows. For these shows the remaining slots were filled with talented musicians. At the beginning of 2020 Voidfallen signed a multi-year booking contract with Heavy Metal Heart Agency and started to compose their debut album titled “The Atlas of Spiritual Apocalypse” which will be released on 8th of October world wide. The Slaves of the Echo Chambers is the 4th and last single from that album.
British metal singer BLAZE BAYLEY has been inducted into the Metal Hall of Fame, where he now sits alongside the likes of Judas Priest and the late great Ronnie James Dio who was Blaze’s earliest influence prompting his ambition to be a heavy metal singer.
Amongst his fellow inductees in the recent ‘virtual’ ceremony were Paul Di’Anno and Derek Riggs (like Blaze, both members of the Iron Maiden family) plus members of KISS, Triumph, Stryper and also Marty Friedman.
Blaze says… ‘This is wonderful for me to be inducted into the same Hall of Fame as Ronnie James Dio, my inspiration. Thank you very very much indeed’

The latest in his now impressive body of work is ‘War Within Me’ which has attracted very positive media comments, for example…

After shaking the world in its foundation with the announcement of their 13th manifesto, “Existence Is Futile”, that will see the light of the day on October 22nd, CRADLE OFFILTH gather again to bring their next sacrifice to the devilish forces of Dark Metal: Today, the band reveals the second single of their new album to come – “Necromantic Fantasies”.
Directed by Vicente Cordero, this video was shot back-to-back with his previous work for the band, the horribly apocalyptic ‘Crawling King Chaos‘, though both are remarkably contrasting.
Dani Filth had this to say of the latest video to enter the Cradle catalogue: “This is a very different video from its predecessor, sporting more of a narrative amid leaning back toward a dark Victorian gothic vibe, showcasing the second of many unique tracks on this, our 13th album. It’s very cinematic, much like Crawling King Chaos, but walking a much more ‘dark faerytale’ path. The director Vicente has done such an amazing job bringing the storyline together with the band and the incredible sets. It looks gorgeous. And the song is pretty good too!”
Pieced together in isolation, at Grindstone Studios in Suffolk with studio guru Scott Atkins (Devilment/Benediction/Vader), the band’s latest chef-d’oeuvre is a pitch-black, perverse and at times absurdly brutal and extreme masterpiece following a truly nihilistic concept:
“The album is about existentialism, existential dread and fear of the unknown,” frontman Dani Filth explains. “The concept wasn’t created by the pandemic. We’d written it long before that began and it is really but the tip of the mountain as far as the way the world is headed, you know?I guess the title, »Existence Is Futile«, does sound a little morbid. But again, it’s more about recognising that truth and saying that everything is permitted because nothing really matters, which mimics the occultist Aleister Crowley’s maxim. We all know we’re going to die, so we might as well indulge life while we possess it. The final track on the album – ‘Us, Dark, Invincible’ – really drives that point home. Also, the artwork for this record was created by the Latvian visionary Arthur Berzinsh, who also dressed the last two albums, and that reeks of the exceedingly beautiful yet apocalyptic too.”
Diehard fans will be thrilled to learn that horror icon Doug ‘Pinhead’ Bradley makes a welcome return to the CRADLE fold, lending his dulcet tones to the band’s most politically astute song to date, the epic ‘Suffer Our Dominion’ as well as the album bonus track ‘Sisters Of The Mist’, which is the conclusion to the ‘Her Ghost In The Fog’ trilogy that started over 20 years ago on the infamous and classic “Midian“.
“Existence Is Futile” consists of 12 new tracks with a total playing time of 54 minutes: The Fate Of The World On Our Shoulders Existential Terror Necromantic Fantasies Crawling King Chaos Here Comes A Candle… (Infernal Lullaby) Black Smoke Curling From The Lips Of War Discourse Between A Man And His Soul The Dying Of The Embers Ashen Mortality How Many Tears To Nurture A Rose? Suffer Our Dominion Us, Dark, Invincible Sisters Of The Mist (Bonus track) Unleash The Hellion (Bonus track)
