Bassist Linus Klausenitzer of modern progressive metal band OBSIDIOUS is now releasing a drum playthrough for the band’s latest single, “Iconic!”The track is taken from the band’s upcoming debut album, which will be released via the label in 2022 via Season of Mist. Watch the clip at THIS LOCATION.
Klausenitzer comments: “When ‘Iconic’ was finished, we all felt that this track was something special. After our management, label and friends felt the same, we knew it should be the first single. Composing fretless bass over such a complex song was a challenge I enjoyed. Having our singer has also added another melody voice, which I supplement with gimmicks here and there. I like the role of the bass playing rhythm, but also using the tonal competency.”
The original song and video for “Iconic” can be found HERE.
Progressive rock legend CYNIC will be releasing highly anticipated new full-length ‘Ascension Codes’ November 26 via Season of Mist! The band is now sharing a preview and video teaser for the track “Diamond Light Body,” featuring artwork by visionary artists, Martina Hoffmann and Robert Venosa. Design and animations by Randy Gaul and Jonatan Martinez (the latter worked with Masvidal on the Mythical Human Vessel trilogy). Watch and listen at THIS LOCATION.
“Diamond Light Body is a song that emerges from the ashes like a phoenix” says Paul Masvidal, Cynic founder.
Cynic’s Ascension Codes is a remarkably far-reaching work, and if nothing else, a clear indication that they have landed in a place of mastery. The album, paradoxically, acts as both swan song and rebirth. The band has recently released the mind-bending first single, “Mythical Serpents,” which can be heard at THIS LOCATION.
Masvidal recently shared a touching tribute to late bassist Sean Malone, who died on December 7, 2020. To commemorate Malone’s legacy, CYNIC has released a never-before-heard recorded performance of the song “Integral,” in which Malone performs fretless bass. “Integral” was originally released as a solo guitar and vocal track on Cynic’s ‘Re-Traced’ EP. The emotional tribute can be found at THIS LOCATION.
As an act of support, CYNIC is inviting fans to donate as you wish for the “Integral” song download, which comes with a guitar/bass transcription of the song and an instrumental (no bass mix) to play along with. 50 percent of proceeds will be shared with suicide prevention organizations: To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) and The Trevor Project. The remaining will go towards funding a documentary about the lives and artistry of Sean Malone and Sean Reinert.
TWLOHA is nonprofit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire, and invest directly into treatment and recovery. https://twloha.com/
The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25. https://www.thetrevorproject.org/
The first single ‘Ship Of Dead’ from VULCANO‘s upcoming album doesn’t show any signs that the veterans are slowing down. In fact, it’s a vicious speed/black metal attack like only the South-American kings of the style are able to convey.
Not a band to rest on their 40(!) year career and highly influential cult status, speed/black metallers VULCANO is back with new music roughly one year and a half after their last studio album.
“Ship Of Dead” is the first single from the Brazilians’ upcoming new studio album, “Stone Orange”, to be released on Emanzipation Productions in early 2022. Guitarist Zhema Rodero comments about the song: “It’s a reference to drug users, addicts that don’t realize they’re in the hold of the Ship of Dead. It’s a fair warning to those who still have discernment. I’ve approached this theme in our back-catalog, since “The Man The Key The Best””.
Vulcano is a band that, by now, doesn’t need any introductions to any metal fan. It’s enough to say they got together in a middle of a turbulent socio-economical turmoil in Brazil, in 1982, in the city of Santos. Thus it’s a 40-year career, 13 studio albums, four live records, and two 7″ EPs, that just couldn’t be summed up in a few lines.
They were pioneers in Brazil and even in South America as a whole, putting in the most extreme metal stepping stone for bands that came after them and continue being formed. Their importance is also capital in the formation of the Norwegian second wave of black metal, with few of its key members citing the Brazilians as a direct influence.
“Stone Orange” is Vulcano’s 19th overall release in their career. How many bands can get to this mark and still be as relevant as the Brazilian extremists are today?
“Stone Orange” will be released in early 2022 via Emanzipation Productions.
Line-up: Zhema Rodero – guitar Carlos Diaz – bass Luiz Carlos Louzada – vocals Gerson Fajardo – guitar Bruno Conrado – drums
Italian legendary Speed/thrash metallers CELTIC HILLS‘ Jonathan Vanderbilt and Germana Noage have teamed up for NOAGE‘s new album on Elevate Records, the first single ‘Surrender‘ will be unleashed on November 19th! “Surrender” will also be promoted by a video clip coming out immediately after the single.
The collaboration between the two artists began when Germana Noage sang as a guest on the record of Celtic Hills, the band of which Jonathan Vanderbilt is the author, singer and guitarist.
Intense period for the leader of Celtic Hills, Jonathan Vanderbilt, who wrote the songs both for NOAGE and CELTIC HILLS. In fact, in a few months the follow up of the successful album “Mystai Keltoy” will be released. The new studio work of Celtic Hills (album still produced by Michele Guaitoli, singer of Vision of Atlantis and Temperance) will see the participation as singer of the drummer Simone Cescutti who, after this work will give himself to a career as a singer and guitarist and who greets the fans of the band singing a song!
Earlier Jonathan revealed on the upcoming album: “Again this time we will talk about Friuli, and the theory is at work that the location of the American Air Force Base Aviano is used to control an ancient access to the underground world, which has been used by the pagan gods since ancient times. The magical rites of the inhabitants of the mountains and the places where elves, fairies and gnomes once lived among the people are revealed. There are already definitive titles such as The Sound of the Earth in F sharp minor. A text tells how you can use the beneficial energy of the trees at dawn to strengthen your energies, but there will be no lack of historical events that accompany every CELTIC HILLS album.”
2021 has been a very positive year for CELTIC HILLS! The reviews of the ‘Mystai Keltoy’ album have been many, published on the major world newspapers and all with an average rating of around 9.
“Mystai Keltoy” (which is an enigmatic name that alludes to the Eleusian Mysteries) was released on May 15th 2021 via Elevate Records, and it’s inspired by themes ranging from ancient alien civilizations, European pyramids, legends and historical facts of Friuli, as you can already guess from the album cover. The disc was recorded and produced at the Groove Factory in Udine by Michele Guaitoli, a prominent name for being the lead singer of Temperance, Vision of Atlantis, Era.
The formation of the power trio is Simone Cescutti on drums, Jacopo Novello on bass and Jonathan Vanderbilt on vocals and guitars. The cover is hand painted by Sheila Franco, the same girl who painted Blood Over Intents, and represents the myth of the ancient visitors. Jonathan Vanderbilt played and recorded the album with Panico Custom instruments, the Italian sponsor of custom lutherie of Luca Panico di Ravenna, a guitar specially created with the specifications requested by the Canadian guitarist.
CELTIC HILLS were born in 2010, in 2020 they sign a recording contract with Elevate Records with which they release the album “Blood over Intents” and the EP “Schrage Musik” both in 2020. In 2021 another album is out “Mystai Keltoy” produced and recorded by Michele Guaitoli singer of Temperance, Vision of Atlantis and Era. The style played is difficult to place in a single vein of metal, as there are many influences ranging from death to power, with sound elements that can also recall a certain type of 90’s thrash. The singing is quite varied, and for some listeners it may seem unusual in a metal band. power, speed and good melodic lines distinguish the band from others. Between 2010 and 2020 they released “Horns helmet fighters” and for the Slovak Music Globalliance they came out on international compilations on volumes 2,3,4.
Today, multi-platinum Danish band VOLBEAT share their new music video for “Shotgun Blues” off their forthcoming eighth studio album, Servant Of The Mind (Republic Records, December 3rd). Watch the music video, directed by Adam Rothlein and produced by by Ghost Atomic Pictures, here.
For Servant of the Mind, the band, which consists of Michael Poulsen (guitars/vocals), Jon Larsen (drums), Rob Caggiano (guitars) and Kaspar Boye Larsen (bass) took their signature heavy metal, psychobilly and punk ‘n’ roll sound up a notch while showcasing Poulsen’s keen ability for songwriting and storytelling. The new album will be available in standard CD, deluxe 2LP vinyl (in various limited-edition variants, full info below) and a deluxe digital edition. Pre-order the album here.
“I wrote the whole album in three months,” recalls Poulsen, “I was in a good place and mood while at home, and had a captive audience of myself… There are a lot of Volbeat signatures in it. If you go back to the first record and compare it to where we are now, you can hear how the band has developed its style, while keeping the signature sound.”
Other songs on the album weave intricate and fascinating tales. “The Sacred Stones” tells the story of “an earthly being who has committed himself to the dark side. He is on a mission, speaking to darker forces and fallen angels.” Meanwhile, “The Devil Rages On” looks at the idea of the devil taking human form. Album opener “Temple of Ekur” returns to the ancient themes explored in past songs such as “The Gates of Babylon,” while the epic album closer “Lasse’s Birgita” explores the story of the first witch burnings to occur in Sweden in 1471.
Volbeat are two decades deep into a career that has found them sharing stages with genre legends like Black Sabbath, Metallica, Motorhead, Slipknot, Megadeth, Anthrax and more. They have racked up nearly three billion cumulative streams over the course of their career, notched a Best Metal Performance Grammy nomination for “Room 24 (feat. King Diamond)” from 2014’s acclaimed (and gold-selling) Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, and have grabbed multiple Danish Music Awards. Not ones to rest on their laurels, their forthcoming album Servant of the Mind, which was written and recorded during the shutdown and quarantine necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, is introspective but pulls no punches and is no less raucous or driving than their previous efforts.
Volbeat have also announced their 2022 coheadlining arena tour with Ghost and special guests Twin Temple, coming to cities including Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Houston, and Phoenix (full dates below). Tickets for the tour, co-Produced by Live Nation and Frank Productions, are available here. Limited VIP packages are also available at volbeat.dk.
Since forming in 2001, Volbeat has gone from the clubs of Copenhagen to headlining stages around the world, including the famed Telia Parken stadium in Denmark (becoming the only domestic artist to ever sell out the venue). Over the course of seven record-breaking albums the band has picked up number one songs (including nine #1s on the US Mainstream Rock chart and counting, the most of any band based outside of North America), multi-platinum certifications, awards and accolades all over the planet. Their latest album, Rewind, Replay, Rebound, was released on August 2nd, 2019 and has spawned the hit singles “Last Day Under The Sun,” “Die To Live (feat. Neil Fallon)” and “Leviathan.” A live album featuring songs recorded during the subsequent world tour, Rewind, Replay, Rebound: Live in Deutschland, was released digitally on November 27th, 2020. They recently contributed a cover of “Don’t Tread on Me” to The Metallica Blacklist, with all proceeds from the track benefiting the All Within My Hands Foundation and the Børne Cancer Fonden of Denmark.
