HEADS FOR THE DEAD: Unveil Official Video ‘Maniac’

Death metal supergroup HEADS FOR THE DEAD, with members of Wombbath, Gorefest, Hail of Bullets and Revel In Flesh, have unleashed a gnarly official video for one of the songs off their horror-themed EP that pays homage in their own way to the classic horror movies. “Slash ‘n’ Roll” will be released on November 5th via Transcending Obscurity Records. No Clean Singing premiered the video AT THIS LINK and had this to say about it –

“A video that’s replete with over-the-top lyrical pathology and an abundance of blood-drenched film clips… this is the kind of thoroughly monstrous music that will put a fiendish smile on your face”

After releasing two standout full length albums which were both refreshing and thrilling for this style of death metal, Heads For The Dead whose lineup includes members of venerated and experienced bands such as Wombbath, Gorefest, Revel In Flesh, Hail of Bullets have come up with an EP paying homage to the classic horror movies which have inspired their music in a big way. Having already established their own horror-tinged sound, it’s fascinating to see the band employ a more crusty approach in giving these unforgettable horror movie tunes a brand new vision and output. There are reinterpretations of theme songs from movies such as Maniac, Halloween and The Thing, done entirely in the band’s style with lyrics and death metal extremity and then there are two fitting cover songs from punk bands like Misfits and Ramones. All in all, this is an exciting and highly enjoyable release not just for the Heads For The Dead fans, who have a new full length in the works, but also just about any fan of horror movies and heavy metal music.

Track listing –

1. Maniac
2. Halloween
3. The Thing
4. Skulls (Misfits)
5. Pet Sematary (Ramones)

Line up –
Jonny Pettersson (Wombbath, Gods Forsaken) – Guitars, Bass, Keyboards & FX
Ralf Hauber (Revel In Flesh) – Vocals
Ed Warby (Gorefest, Hail of Bullets) – Drums

Chicago, Illinois -based metal act REPENTANCE have announced their worldwide signing to German label Noble Demon. Founded in 2018 by former SOIL and DIRGE WITHIN guitarist Shaun Glass, the band soon became known for their distinctive heavy yet dynamic sound, packed with details, groove and intensity. With a critically acclaimed debut album under their belts (“God For A Day”, 2020) and numerous shows with high profile acts such as TRIVIUM, DEVILDRIVER, JINJER, SKULL FIST, TOXIC HOLOCAUST, SACRED REICH and others, REPENTANCE have taken the heavy scene by storm and represent a sound, which is sure to obliterate fans of extreme music everywhere.

Joining the eclectic and growing artist roster of Noble Demon, the up and coming label founded by Nuclear Blast veteran Patrick Walch, Shaun Glass offers:

“Repentance is thrilled to be with the mighty Noble Demon Records for our new releases! I was so impressed with how such a newer label was making waves and with such a diverse roster of Metal/Rock it was the obvious place for this to be our new home with a professional staff and Patrick’s amazing history in the Metal industry, it’s a breath of fresh air.“

To celebrate and start the new chapter with a big bang, REPENTANCE just released a lyric video for the crushing new single “Reborn”. Taken from the band’s upcoming EP -slated for a release later this year- and featuring none other than Corey Beaulieu of mighty TRIVIUM on guitar for a guest solo, “Reborn” is a stunning first peek of what to expect from REPENTANCE in the near future! But not only with a new single but also with a renewed line-up, this track is the perfect introduction to the rebirth of the band’s aggressive modern metal sound. The arrival of the ferocious voice of Adam Gilley sets the bar high and makes it apparent that this is truly a cleansing in the band’s sound on all levels.

Vocalist Adam Gilley states:

“When I first heard the track for Reborn I knew I wanted to be a part of Repentance. This song is a straight punch to your face. I love the intensity of this song & Corey (Trivium) absolutely shreds on the guest solo…So whether you‘re at home, work, the gym or wherever you are. CRANK this!!!“

Furthermore Patrick Walch (Noble Demon) adds:

“When I discovered REPENTANCE last year listening to their first single and then the full length album ‘God for A Day’ I instantly knew I was onto something there. After having spoken with Shaun Glass for a while we knew that the vibe was more than right between us so, it didn’t need much negotation in order to work together on their next songs. I’m proud to welcome another member to the Noble Demon family, this time with a pure US metal sound which i’ve always been appreciating by bands like Trivium, Lamb Of God, Devildriver etc., all bands i grew up with as well. And having Corey of TRIVIUM play the solo on this new single is a huge honor for all of us. Check out REPENTANCE, you won’t be disappointed!“

Produced By Alex Lackner at Accelerated Sound and mixed by Chris Collier at CMC 21 Productions, “Reborn” is now streaming on all DIGITAL PLATFORMS

CADAVERIA Release “The Woman Who Fell to Earth” Music Video

In early June Italian Black/Gothic Metal act CADAVERIA released the single “The Woman Who Fell to Earth” on all digital platforms.  Now the band have premiered the video for the same track, watch below.

Made by Morbid Vision and shot around an old village in Piedmont, North Italy, among woods and fields, the video was inspired by a shamanic prediction. The images evoke the existence of parallel dimensions and of a multifaceted female presence, at times mysterious, who visits our sick planet to give new energy.

The video also shows a preview of some handmade jewels, a necklace and a pendant worn by Cadaveria herself, which are now available to order at this link http://bit.ly/shopcadaveria

CEDARS Release New Music Video ‘Claymore’ (Trigger Warning!)

Texas’ electronic rockers CEDARS released their new album “Cowards” on June 11th, via Gruene Records. Today the band has unleashed their new music video for ‘Claymore‘, talking about the challenges of relationship in a visceral way.

Trigger warning! The video contains graphic content that some may find disturbing!

Watch ‘Claymore’ here:

The band on ‘Claymore’:
“We wanted to talk about the challenges of relationship in a visceral way. We get told a story about what it takes to “make things work” and often that means betrayal of oneself at some level. We don’t think it has to be that way, but it takes a totally different conversation to get past the narratives we’re typically handed in western culture.
What parts of ourselves do we kill to stay in relationship? Are there pieces of our inner world that we choose to silence to maintain connection?
Claymore speaks to the feelings of being trapped and knowing that choosing connection means certain parts of who you are will have to be sacrificed, but resurrection and remembering your authentic self is always still within reach. It’s never too late.”

The band of the concept of the “Cowards” album:
“Cowards, at its core, is an album about choosing yourself, even in the face of great consequences. So often we find ourselves in situations or systems that ask us to minimize ourselves or our desires or even our needs, but there comes a point where we have to make some really tough choices: do we continue to support the system that is crushing us and building itself on our backs, or do we honour our own still, small voice?
The album is the story of finding ourselves in a season of life where those choices were very pressing, and very loud, with very real consequences. There are times when death is necessary to make room for the new, the better, and sometimes the knife is in our own hands. The album, though full of heavy moments, is also woven with bright strands of hope and light, the kind that can only come after great loss and struggle. How quietly we go to war.”

CEDARS is an electronic rock band from central Texas whose music incorporates the DIY ethos of bands like The Pixies and PJ Harvey, the haunting atmospheres of Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, and the infectious grooves of MuteMath. CEDARS is more than just a band: it’s is a vision of community, a community driven by the idea that beauty can save the world. Led by longtime friends Sandeigh Kennedy and Drew Heaton, they blend industrial and organic textures, drawing together disparate elements to marry complex sonic landscapes with compelling stories. Gritty synths and wispy vocals; hard hitting beats and delicate textures are the tools they use to tell powerful, authentic stories that explore truth and beauty.

TUOMAS ROUNAKARI Enters to Split Screen Management Artist Roster

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 6, 2021
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: TUOMAS ROUNAKARI. Leave a comment

Split Screen Management has a huge pleasure to announce the signing of Violinist, composer, ethnomusicologist TUOMAS ROUNAKARI!

Tuomas Rounakari is a violinist, composer, ethnomusicologist (MA) and an educator from Finland. He has collaborated with artists from different arctic indigenous cultures and has studied shamanism and ritualistic music of northern Eurasia. He is also considered a key figure in revitalizing the near extinct tradition of Finnish-Carelian Lament singing. For the past 9 years Rounakari has been the fiddler of folk-metal band Korpiklaani. He is also known as a Shaman-violinist thanks to his solo performance. He is a co-founder of a finnish theatre group Ruska-Ensemble and its musical director. He has done field-work among the Khanty people in Siberia.

Tuomas stated:
“Curious to see where this path leads to! Many changes are going on in my life and the future looks promising for my solo career. New album coming out next Spring! And many intriguing projects and collaborations are on their way. None of it is done in the conventional way! Among all the new things arising, as the old world is dying out in front of our eyes, I am most happy to have helping hands around and team up with Split Screen production! Something exciting is surely on its way:-)”

Kimmo Kuusniemi, Split Screen’s manager adds:
“I met Tuomas 6 years ago when we travelling through Russia and Siberia. During the numerous plane, train and automobile sessions we had time to discuss everything under the sun. Despite our very different musical backgrounds we realised we have a lot in common. Somewhere between visiting the Nanai people at the Amur river and the shores of Lake Baikal we decided to work together on my long term project “Ancient Streaming Assembly”. Now I am really happy to see Tuomas joining Split Screen Management. This is a natural progression on our path.”

Furhermore, we are soon about to announce a crowdfunding for the new Tuomas Rounakari solo album, coming out in Spring 2022.

While waiting for it have a look at the Online concert from Kaustinen Folk Music Festival 2020. Shamanviolin at Pauanne is a full-length online concert produced by the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival 2020. The concert was filmed at the magical Pauanne where a community of folk musicians and folk healers used to live in the 1980’s. All buildings are fully hand made with many mythological decorations. The place has unfortunately decayed without much needed preservation. This Shamanviolin concert ends with lament melodies in a burnt down sauna. The magic and unique beauty of this place is still strong. A perfect environment for my music.

TRIUMPH’s Rik Emmett Talks Upcoming Triumph Documentary & New Poem/ Autobiography

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 6, 2021
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Rik Emmett, The Metal Voice, TRIUMPH. Leave a comment

Jimmy Kay From Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to TRIUMPH‘s guitarist Rik Emmett about his upcoming book or poetry/Autobiography “Reinvention: Poems” via ECW Press , on September 14. Emmett also talks about the upcoming Triumph Documentary that will premiere on Friday Sept 10 at the TIFF.

Is this poetry book also an autobiography
“It was a big part of it, I was trying to have this therapeutic thing that was going on where I started writing and trying to come to terms with getting older and all the rest of that. “

Why not just write an autobiography
“The memoir is coming but in typical Rik Emmett style I decided I was going to Mish Mash a bunch of stuff and try to reach for aesthetic before I had to buckle down. Memoir stuff is more like people want the anecdotes, the stories and what it was like to have been there. There is almost a reporting angle in that. Whereas with poetry I felt like I had a lot more license to do and say things the way I wanted to try and say it. I just felt like I was going to take that step towards a world that’s more Gord Downie (The Tragically Hip) and Leonard Cohen and just take a baby step towards that and not necessarily putting myself on that level. This is only my first attempt. Generally thinking I don’t think my poetry book is too hard to chew at but yes sometimes I am hiding a little bit behind the words or trying to make it so that instead of pissing and moaning about whatever. I am actually trying to say how do I get over to Virtue from Vice? How do I make that flip and I think in poetry it’s easier to do that than if you are just writing a standard autobiography memoir. The memoir is part of my book deal to come out in the future. “

In your book of Poetry/Autobiography you talk about being outvoted by Triumph members many times
“In Triumph when we first started it was a trio and that is like a perfect little democracy, it’s as small as you can get and still have a perfect democracy. In the early stages there would be discussions, my voice would be taken seriously and we were building something. But once it got built to a certain point there was an imbalance that existed. Gil Moore was the general manager of the band, it was really his thing. Mike Levine was the guy that dealt with the record company, he did the marketing and the promotion. So then when there were musical direction talks, I was going, hang on for a second I think direction wise we should be doing this, then it was like sorry Rik you are getting out voted. And I was getting outvoted on too much stuff. I think the other guys wanted it to be a very metal/ hard rock kind of thing but I was the guy that was saying how about a little more progressive. And later on we weren’t even a hard rock band anymore because of what was happening at MCA/Universal. So there wasn’t even that integrity that metal/hard rock has and we were turning into a pop band. I don’t think any of us liked it but the other guys were going kind of like well this is where the bread is buttered and I was like I don’t care about butter.

How did Triumph have so much success on the business side of things and why did you leave?
“Triumph we managed ourselves, so there wasn’t a big slice coming off the top like the 20% of the gross that is going towards a management company. So we didn’t need as big a pie as other bands did. There was money from merchandising, there was money from touring. In fact Triumph probably made more money from then that stuff then we ever did from selling records. In Triumph Mike and Gil were very astute business people they really knew from the get go what it was that they were trying to achieve on a whole bunch of levels. So there wasn’t an ignorance or a naivety to what was happening, no way, there was an awareness. I have learned a lot at the feet of those masters. I think at a certain point they were going to run the Triumph Rock and Roll machine the way they were going to do it and I went I got to go, see yeah.”

Tell me how you felt watching the upcoming Triumph Documentary?
“Banger films have done it and they are very experienced and they are telling their perspective of the story. They have done their research and then they decided this is the angle we are going to take. So that is the first lense you are getting. The other thing is, it’s not my story, in fact I don’t actually own that brand. Gil owns that brand so you are going to get a little bit more of Gil’s angle of it then Rik’s and that is fine. I’m cool with that. In truth and in fairness I think people need to know that, that is what you are going to see. You are going to see something that has been passed through those filters. Is this ok? Have all three guys signed off on this? Yes.”

“Reinvention” is a largely autobiographical collection of poetry — a project that followed on the heels of Emmett retiring from a touring musician’s and college educator’s life in early 2019. Inside all of the slashes that define him — singer/songwriter/guitarist/rock star/teacher/columnist — writing has always been his strongest avocation, and the poetic style of “Ultra Talk”, in particular, offered a welcome spark for a songwriter’s freedom of expression. This creative license is organized under seven headings — The Humanities, Life & Death, There’s Politics in Everything, Double Helix, Soapbox Sermonettes, Time Time Time, and Ars Nova 2020.

TRIUMPH’s first-ever feature documentary about the band’s dramatic career, “Triumph: Rock & Roll Machine” (changed from the working title of “Triumph: Lay It On The Line”), will receive its world premiere on Friday, September 10 at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)

On September 12, 2021, 2:00 PM EST, on Volume.com/metalhalloffame, Triumph members Gil Moore, Bassist Mike Levine and Guitarist Rik Emmett will be inducted into the Metal Hall of Fame Virtual Gala. During the ceremony Triumph will be Inducted into the 2021 Metal Hall of Fame by: Live Nation’s Head of Industry Relations Joey Vendetta Scoleri and Jimmy Kay, Editor-in-Chief of The Metal Voice.
