Canadian extreme melodic death metal juggernaut THE AGONIST takes another bold step in their musical and lyrical progression with their blazing new EP, Days Before The World Wept, out this Friday, October 15, 2021 via Napalm Records! Inspired by real life experiences, Days Before The World Wept explores a grim, conceptual tale of greed, gluttony, confusion, pain, redemption and hope enveloped in a new level of aggression and cohesive, technical prowess.

Following up to their dynamic latest single, “Remnants In Time” and its haunting music video, THE AGONIST is thrilled to reveal the EP’s second single, “Feast On The Living” and another killer video! The certified burner stands tall with rollercoaster clean and gritty vocals, rapid fire drums and needle-sharp guitar leads and solos, cementing the track as one of the most technically meticulous of the band’s career and a forewarning of the band’s more extreme leanings.

Frontwoman Vicky Psarakis says about the track and video:
“Everything that could possibly go wrong with this video shoot, well… did, haha. We had a very difficult time finding the right location, so our vision kept changing. Days before the shoot was scheduled to take place we managed to secure the perfect spot and experimenting with all sorts of cool lighting is what took it to the next level!

Musically, ‘Feast On The Living’ is a much more straightforward metal track. You’re 4 songs into the EP, at this point you know exactly what you’re going to be served and you’re loving it.”

Produced by Christian Donaldson (Beyond Creation, Cryptopsy, Despised Icon), Days Before The World Wept packs several albums worth of skill, songwriting prowess and melancholic lyrical mastery into just five tracks – leaving no stone unturned!

Opening track “Remnants In Time” begins ominously with ghostly piano lines performed by lead vocalist Vicky Psarakis before slamming into a double bass, one-woman choir explosion rife with needle-precision guitar work by deft guitarists Danny Marino and Pascal Jobin. The death metal burner brings non-stop energy throughout, showcasing Psarakis’ multifaceted vocal attack as she nails searing highs, guttural lows and magical clean passages in one fell swoop. The onslaught continues with the rhythmic soundscapes of cry for salvation “Immaculate Deception”, blending fast paced, aggressive verses with haunting, melodic choruses. “Resurrection” reaches into blackened territory before Psarakis splits it wide open – annihilating with her pinpointed vocal attack calling for rebirth. In addition to Psarakis, Marino and Jobin, dexterous drums from Simon McKay and the bass attack of Chris Kells lead the listener through metallic melodic passages topped with emotive poetry before breaking into the next track, “Feast On The Living”. It stands tall with rollercoaster clean and gritty vocals, rapid fire drums and blazingly precise guitar leads and solos, cementing the track as one of the most technically meticulous of the entire offering. Shifting into fifth gear, title track “Days Before The World Wept” brings it all home, beginning with a beckoning acoustic introduction before roaring in with intense blastbeats, polyrhythms and bellowing screams. THE AGONIST pulls out all the stops, showcasing their chops in all directions with breakneck instrumentation and staggeringly superb vocal approaches. Soaring through a kaleidoscope of blistering metal mastery and hopeful lyrical dramatism, the opus dominates as one of the most impressive works of the band’s catalog.

Psarakis adds about Days Before The World Wept:
“There’s a lot I could say about this EP and its importance to the band, but does it matter? Obviously, this is the part where I tell you these are the best songs we’ve put out to date. Honestly – it’s a journey. You’re either gonna reach the end and want to relive it or you’re not… and that’s okay. Let the music speak for itself.”

Despite spending a big part of 2020-2021 locked inside, writing and recording new material, Stockholm based MASS WORSHIP did complete a highly successful tour in support of Polish death metal legends Vader. Meanwhile, MASS WORSHIP are primed and ready to unleash their second full-length assault. Due for release on February 4th, 2022, “Portal Tombs” is a terrifying but electrifying exploration of the gloomy depths of human nature: a monolithic manifestation of the musical force that is MASS WORSHIP. Drawing inspiration from bands such as At The Gates, Mastodon and Meshuggah, MASS WORSHIP could be likened to many bands, but somehow forge their musical identity into something exceptionally distinctive and transcendent, and with enough confidence and conviction to win over even the most orthodox fans of the genre.

You can catch them on the following shows as well:

Udo Dirkschneider Does Not Rule Out Future Projects w/ Former Accept Members Peter Baltes & Stefan Kaufmann

Jimmy Kay and Alan Dixon recently spoke to Udo Dirkschneider about his upcoming U.D.O. album “Game Over”, which will be released October 22 via AFM Records.

When asked if the new album title ‘Game Over’ means and he will be retiring soon?
‘A lot of people were thinking, GAME OVER, is this my last album or my last tour? No it isn’t. The title of the album came during the recording session. The pandemic caused a lot of things. We could not work like we wanted to and we had to record in a different way. Then I don’t know who mentioned the words ‘Game Over’ but we said a great title for the album, so let’s do it.”

How did you work on this album during the pandemic?
“We usually work face to face in a room with the producer but during the pandemic it was not possible. So that means we did everything over Zoom, Skype, Facetime and it took a little bit more time but of course in the end we had more time. This whole album for me was a band album effort. Everyone was really open minded. I had all these young people around me and they pushed me and they added some fresh ideas with a little bit more modern stuff.”

When asked about the musical direction
“The whole thing is a really good mix up. A lot of different stuff going on, fast songs, mid tempo songs, up tempo songs, ballads, a lot of melodies, really good guitar work, what can I say I am happy.”

When asked if there will be  DIRKSCHNEIDER & THE OLD GANG with Ex Accept Peter Baltes (bass) and Stefan Kaufmann album in the future?
“We did the E.P. and people were saying is an album coming too? Definitely not at the moment. I would say if we have time, if we have enough ideas and we can do something in between. I would say maybe someday we can do an album together. But it would be more of a project and it would be more of a fun thing to do musically.  So there won’t be that expectation that a new band is coming out. Also it would not be possible to go with this lineup on tour.”

Udo Dirkschneider, will release its new album “Game Over”, on October 22 via AFM Records.

Track listing:

  1. Fear Detector
  2. Holy Invaders
  3. Prophecy
  4. Empty Eyes
  5. I See Red
  6. Metal Never Dies
  7. Kids And Guns
  8. Like A Beast
  9. Don’t Wanna Say Goodbye
  10. Unbroken
  11. Marching Tank
  12. Thunder Road
  13. Midnight Stranger
  14. Speed Seeker

WIEGEDOOD Release Official Video ‘Nuages’

As the world circles the abyss at gathering speed, WIEGEDOOD have returned to provide a perfectly vicious soundtrack. Today they are giving a first taste of their upcoming album, “There’s Always Blood At The End Of The Road”, that is scheduled for a release on January 14th, 2022.

The band comments: “A black metal homage to Django Reinhardt. So chaotic and dissonant that the man himself would have hated it for sure.”

The band about the album: “’There’s Always Blood At The End Of The Road’” focuses on the filthiest and most disgusting parts of human nature and society. It steers clear from the typical Black Metal themes and concepts, instead zoning in on the struggle we lead within, trying to overcome the fact we are all made from that same filth. Exploring places the previous trilogy didn’t even scratch the surface of, both lyrically and musically. A first-hand look into pure disgust, a psychotic ride with synths, tape-recorders, hot club jazz and distressing samples. A definite switch from our previous work, a dark turn into something unexpected and unwelcome.”

Being dedicated road dogs the band will embark on a European tour following the release of the album. The first part will be supported by Portrayal Of Guilt.
