Death metal trailblazers THE AGONIST have just revealed a twisted new music video for the crushing, grooving track “Immaculate Deception”, cut from their JUNO Award nominated EP, Days Before the World Wept, out now via Napalm Records!

The dark and disturbing clip comes just in time to prepare fans for the band’s upcoming European tour. Featuring headliners Hypocrisy, special guests Septicflesh and fellow support artists Horizon Ignited, the run begins this coming Friday, September 30 in Germany. “Immaculate Deception is a song about societal pressure and feelings of remorse over time.

The main point I want to highlight is the concept of time and the fear that comes with it. We all reach a point where we start noticing that we’re aging. In current society, there’s a big push to try and preserve our physical state. There’s a huge movement of cosmetic procedures and products that promise us “eternal youth”. People like to think that they can keep reliving their 20s, instead of embracing the natural course of life and the challenges and rewards that come with it.

To bring this vision to life, we focused on our main character coming face to face with different versions of herself: her naturally aged older self chasing her with an imaginary “mob” (representing society) and her unrecognizable cosmetically altered self staring at her through the mirror. She ultimately realizes she can not run anymore.

Remorse is a powerful feeling and influencing factor for a lot of our decisions, but the fact is you can never go back in time and change the things you’ve done. All you can do is learn and push yourself to be better over time.

“Everything that could possibly go wrong with this video shoot, well… did, haha. We had a very difficult time finding the right location, so our vision kept changing. Days before the shoot was scheduled to take place we managed to secure the perfect spot and experimenting with all sorts of cool lighting is what took it to the next level!

Musically, ‘Feast On The Living’ is a much more straightforward metal track. You’re 4 songs into the EP, at this point you know exactly what you’re going to be served and you’re loving it.”

Opening track “Remnants In Time” begins ominously with ghostly piano lines performed by lead vocalist Vicky Psarakis before slamming into a double bass, one-woman choir explosion rife with needle-precision guitar work by deft guitarists Danny Marino and Pascal Jobin. The death metal burner brings non-stop energy throughout, showcasing Psarakis’ multifaceted vocal attack as she nails searing highs, guttural lows and magical clean passages in one fell swoop. The onslaught continues with the rhythmic soundscapes of cry for salvation “Immaculate Deception”, blending fast paced, aggressive verses with haunting, melodic choruses. “Resurrection” reaches into blackened territory before Psarakis splits it wide open – annihilating with her pinpointed vocal attack calling for rebirth. We wanted the visuals to strongly reflect the lyrics and the concept behind them, and transforming me into a demon was key in that. I’m a huge fan of horror/sci-fi and makeup transformations, so working with a professional makeup artist and the use of prosthetics was the coolest part for me!
 
This song – and video – is all about extremes. Angelic and demonic, fragile and strong, delicate and aggressive. It embodies a lot of what THE AGONIST is about.”
