JERRY CANTRELL Of ALICE IN CHAINS Releases New Single ‘Atone’ From Upcoming LP

Iconic singer, songwriter, guitarist, and ALICE IN CHAINS co-founder JERRY CANTRELL returns with the release of his first single “Atone” out today, from Cantrell’s new album, Brighten. The record is available for pre-order and pre-save—HERE.

Premiering exclusively with Rolling Stone, writer Jon Blistein said, “Atone” is a heavy track, although it’s undergirded by a sinister twang while the guitar riffs hit with grit and menace, as well as a bit of psychedelic unease. “Running out of time,” Cantrell wails right before the hook, “Gotta find a way to atone/Gotta find a way to atone/Trying to find a way to atone.”

Right from the jump, the riff rolls like a runaway freight train underscored by cinematic twang. As the momentum builds, he intones the hummable hook before a psychedelic break, and a hard-hitting hook evocative of the album’s incendiary spirit.
The video is a perfect accompaniment to the song as it is a compilation of black & white footage of Jerry playing the song in outdoor locations such as Joshua Tree, the Salton Sea, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. It was creative directed as a group effort by Jerry; Photographer/Musician Jim Louvau; singer/guitarist Greg Puciato; visual artist Jesse Draxler; and Photographer Tony Aguilera.

Talking about “Atone”, Jerry says, “As a fan of Ennio Morricone scores and Sergio Leone movies, it’s got a bit of that outlaw vibe, with a cool psycho hillbilly stomp” he explains. “It’s been kicking around in my head for like 20-plus years, haunting me. Sometimes it takes a while for a good idea to find its best form. Such was the case with Atone.”

The veteran rock artist delivers by offering up another dimension of his recognizable guitar sounds while at the same time featuring his signature vocals.

Jerry says, “I’ve been in the band for almost 34 years now. It’s always my first and foremost commitment, but it’s nice to explore different things and add another chapter to a growing body of work. After the last AIC tour wrapped, I geared my mind towards the possibility of making another record of my own.”

Cantrell played a pair of sold-out solo shows in Los Angeles joined by an eclectic group of musicians and friends, several of whom appear on Brighten.

Jerry continues, “It was fun to play tunes I hadn’t performed in years from Boggy Depot and Degradation Trip. Tyler Bates not only introduced me to a lot of cool players, he also helped me put the band together for the shows, and performed with me.

Brighten spawned from those gigs.

“It was like an old school seventies record where a multitude of musicians played,” smiles Cantrell. “So it’s not a set band. I got to make music with a bunch of people I never had before, along with friends like Duff, Tyler, and Gil who I’ve worked with previously.”

Jerry’s expansive sonic palette incorporates everything from moments of moody organ and powerful pedal steel to the cathartic choruses and airtight riffs which is the hallmark of Cantrell’s sound.

Over the past year, he co-produced Brighten with Paul Fig (long-time Engineer), also taking the helm as co-producer along with film composer Tyler Bates [300, John Wick]. Reflecting a classic spirit, they welcomed a dynamic cast of supporting players, including drummers Gil Sharone and Abe Laboriel, Jr. (Paul McCartney), pedal steel master Michael Rozon, Vincent Jones on piano, Wurlitzer, and organ. Other rock legends added to the fun of this LP, including Duff McKagan [Guns N’ Roses, Loaded] on select bass tracks, Greg Puciato [Dillinger Escape Plan] handling all of the background vocals, and Joe Barresi [Tool, Queens of the Stone Age] overseeing the mixing of Brighten.

Together, they recorded eight originals and the LP closes with an approved by Elton cover of his classic “Goodbye” as the finale. “Madman Across The Water is one of my favorite records of all time,” he exclaims.  Out of respect to Elton, I wouldn’t include it unless he said it was okay. He’d played piano on ‘Black Gives Way To Blue,’ which I wrote for Layne, so I reached out to Elton, he listened to it, and told me “You should absolutely use it.” I got the signoff by the man himself. I couldn’t think of a better way to close the record!”

To commemorate its release “Atone” will be available in multiple configurations including a 12-inch vinyl single with a B side that includes an exclusive instrumental version (with glow in the dark packaging), 180 heavyweight vinyl, and a blood-red color vinyl exclusive to the Jerry Cantrell Webstore. Each “Atone” vinyl single purchase includes a red Flexi disc, red pick set, and an instant download of the song.

Brighten is available for pre-order everywhere now and will be offered in an exclusive bone with gold splatter color 180 gram vinyl via Jerry’s webstore. Limited signed CDs will also be available in the webstore for pre-order.

Denver-based ghastly industrial/darkwave outfit CUTWORM has teamed up with Post-Punk.com to debut the video for “Apostasy,” the 3rd track from the album, Ouster.

David L Small (the architect behind Cutworm) informs:
“The story starts with ‘Apostasy’ and ends with ‘Means of Control.’ The story behind the videos is mostly about the cycle of creation. For my process when it comes to making music, art, etc., I prefer to be alone when I do it, hence the character in ‘Apostasy’ walking a great distance to find a place to create. I suppose the character’s process could be interpreted as the usual trial and error before he realizes what he’s creating consumes him. Then in the ‘Means of Control’ video (which will be released later) that character is basically undoing the errors of the character from ‘Apostasy.’”

The latest album, Ouster, is now available on digital/streaming platforms; Stream/Download it RIGHT HERE. The video for the track “Insulate” got its debut months ago via Under the Radar; Watch it AT THIS LOCATION.

Since its inception, Cutworm has gone on to prove to be an adventure in sonic experience. Started by David L Small in 2015, Cutworm combines elements from heavy industrial, hip hop, noise, witch house, dark wave, and film scoring, Cutworm has set out to create a living and breathing musical entity that is as beautiful as it is destructive.

Cutworm’s latest aural experimentation, Ouster, represents the culmination of all the anger and sorrow the mastermind David L Small experienced in the last year or so. According to Small, the album is a direct response to watching the world around us further deteriorate and devolve and every track of the album has been directly affected by the events of 2020. “Some of the music on this album wouldn’t have existed without suffering,” shares Small. “But as I worked through the process I found this layer of beauty that advanced with the ugliness. It’s an incredibly conflicting feeling, but I am thankful for how it turned out. I look forward to sharing it with everyone.”

ODDKO Release Insanely Freakish VFX Video in Collaboration with DJ Zardonic

ZARDONIC, award-winning DJ and Drum & Bass mogul (Bullet For My Valentine, Entertainment One, All Elite Wrestling, SUPERHOT Team)  has collaborated with Los Angeles’ answer to industrial metal music, ODDKO. The single “Disobey (Zardonic Remix)”  is paired with a jaw dropping video by ODDKO mastermind, award-winning director and motion designer Giovanni Bucci (Korn, Jane’s Addiction, Fleshgod Apocalypse).

Commenting on the collaboration with ZARDONIC, Bucci states:
“I’ve been a fan of Zardonic music for over a decade, so having him on board and doing the remix is an honor, and an achievement – especially as ODDKO is an independent new band still somewhat in its infancy! I’m immensely happy with the final result and hope to do more ODDKO/Zardonic collaborations in the future.”

ZARDONIC adds:
“Thrilled to finally be able to release this remix of a monster of a track!! We tested this track at Beats For Love Festival in Czech Republic and everyone went crazy with it. I am glad to have the opportunity to work with ODDKO in what I hope will be the first of many powerful remixes!”

The original version of ODDKO’s industrial masterpiece “Disobey” was released in 2018. The groundbreaking video went on to win many awards, including Best Metal and Horror Video at the LA Music Video Awards, as well as both Silver and Bronze Telly awards. The video has garnered 1.7 million views to date.

ODDKO is an LA-based independent alternative/industrial metal band spawned from the mind of Giovanni Bucci, who started the band as a way to fully express himself in all dimensions, using the music to fuel the images and then feed back into the music.

Their debut EP, “Digital Gods” was written and composed by Giovanni, and for the initial recording he tracked guitars, bass, and electronics, and programmed drums. Subsequently he recorded the tracks with the help of Francesco Paoli (Fleshgod Apocalypse) and Dave Tavanti (Kpanic). Production and recording of cellos, violins, drums, bass, guitar and various arrangements were orchestrated by Daniele Marinelli. The final magic touches were applied in Los Angeles with the help of producer/sound engineer Rob Romano, and the EP was mastered by Howie Weinberg (Rammstein, Madonna, Metallica).

Dublin alternative rock outfit KLUBBER LANG return with their new single ‘Sleep Well’, fast paced pounding rhythms, riff laden hard-edged melodies and McGoldrick’s unique vocal delivery combine to make ‘Sleep Well’ a frenzied attack on the senses, that is both thought provoking and addictive and leaves you wanting more. ‘Sleep Well’ is now available on all digital platforms.

‘Sleep Well’, the band’s first release since teaming up with Irish independent label ‘Forever in Financial Arrears’ (FIFA Records) is the perfect follow up to their two previous singles ‘There, there’ and ‘Not My Day’ and is ample justification as to why there is a real level of expectation about the Dublin heavy hitters. Somewhat of a nineties supergroup, Klubber Lang are made up of Revelino guitarist Ciaran Tallon, ex-(sic) bass player Ciaran McGoldrick on vocals and bass, ex-Mexican Pets drummer Fin O’Leary and producer Ronan McHugh on keyboards.

‘Sleep Well’ is now available on all digital platforms and is the first in a series of Klubber Lang singles with FIFA that will receive a physical release later in the year on limited edition cassette.

JEFFREY NOTHING Releases Official Music Video for “The Outage” Feat. Former Members of MUSHROOMHEAD, MOTOGRATER, SKIN

Posted by tarjavirmakari on August 1, 2021

JEFFREY NOTHING, former vocalist of industrial metal band MUSHROOMHEAD, has released the official music video for his newest single, “The Outage.” Directed by Ian D. Sniesak and edited and shot by Jon Conner of A Hole in the Head Productions, with assisted videography by Thomas Church and Aj Taranto, the dark music saga features former members of MOTOGRATER and SKIN alongside the legendary front-man as well as former MUSHROOMHEAD guitarist, Thomas Church.

“We all come with an expiration date. From our first breath, till our last, we are a miracle in motion; full of emotion, fears, and an air of invincibility. How we treat our fellow man and our life matters. Other than love, you sincerely can’t take it with you. Above is a place I pray to one day be, not a circle I put myself in as I traverse this lifetime. Freedom means everything. All complexes aside, we have no owners. Dream big and share your soul… I, for one, will be listening. So many trash their bodies and minds and feel they just get to wake up from whatever mistake they just made no matter what. It is so heartbreaking to watch a generation be wiped out because they truly believe they are invincible. We are not. Risking oneself for that ever-elusive first high destroys far more than the singular self. Parents never want to outlive their children. You are not that invincible person who will beat any challenge, just because. Stop for one second and be that miracle baby again. Not the almost adult who crushed everyone’s dreams, all because you wanted to escape a temporary nightmare. Death is the end, not a new beginning. Ever.” – Jeffrey Nothing

“Life is full of hardships, challenges, tribulations… It can be difficult in the moments of pain to see through to the other side, that there’s a way to come out victorious. It can be easy to compromise or give in to something that offers a moment of relief; a temporary solution to a problem that might turn into a permanent consequence. It can be easy to think that you will remain in control but more often than not what we think we control ends up controlling us. Pain and trauma are the real gateway drugs and until we learn to face the pain and overcome we will continue the cycle of abuse, be it substance or other. If we don’t, addiction ends up being in control. It destroys what’s beautiful, and then dances and parades what remains around for all the world to see. It can be easy to become ensnared in the prisons of our mind. If we take a close look at ourselves in the midst of our addiction, it can seem as if we are suffocating, wrapped in the fake plastic of the lies we believe that have now led us to the predicament we are in.

Acknowledging there is a problem is the first step. Then we must fight, for our freedom and for our lives, one day at a time.” – Ian D Sniesak (Vocals)

Jeffrey Nothing is the co-founder and former haunting voice behind Cleveland’s MUSHROOMHEAD. His distinct vocals had driven Mushroomhead’s frightening and extreme performance style, garnered them an enormously devoted cult following, and helped them to sell millions of albums worldwide. Nothing has teamed up with fellow former MUSHROOMHEAD guitarist Thomas Church following their departure from the band in March of 2018. The group also features former MOTOGRATER and THE BROWNING drummer Noah “Shark” Robertson, vocalist Ian D. Sniesak, and bassist Steven Adams.
