ENSLAVED Reveal ‘Homebound’ Live Video

The latest chapter in Enslaved’s 30th anniversary voyage is coming to a close. Today, the Norwegian avant-gardists have released their full Cinematic Tour 2020 live album/DVD collection, and in celebration they have premiered a live video for ‘Homebound’, the final act in this tetralogy of exquisite audiovisual performances.

‘Homebound’ is a snapshot of a unique show, recorded in summer 2020 in Sotra, Norway, encompassing five tracks from Utgard, Enslaved’s latest studio album. Utgard saw Enslaved inhabit an esoteric space – finding themselves fueled by the pace of their black metal origins, while continuing their melodic evolution.

Iver Sandøy commented,
“Ah, the live album… Some of my all time favourite albums have been concert recordings. On top of that list I’ll put Made In Japan by Deep Purple and Live After Death by Iron Maiden. As a youngster, I spent more time listening to these cassettes on my little walkman than any other album since. Both those stellar collections of career defining performances by each of those bands were, incidentally, captured for posterity by the brilliant Martin Birch. He sadly left us in August 2020, right as Enslaved were working on these virtual performances that we are now, finally, releasing properly in all the classic formats.

The classic live albums of the 70s and 80s stand as monuments to not only amazing performances by the artists, but also a celebration of the bond between them and their audiences. The parallel universe that was 2020 forced Enslaved to find other ways to honour that bond. We could not hear you scream for us from your living rooms as we performed, but these recordings stand as a testament, and indeed, a monument, to the eternal gratitude we feel towards you, our fans.”

Enslaved are also proud to announce that they will be playing at Hellfest 2022, on Friday June 24th 2022, headlining the Temple stage. For more information head to: https://hellfest.fr

Chronicles of the Northbound, Below The Lights and Utgard – The Journey Within detail their Cinematic Summer Tour digital shows which took place last summer. The events were collaborations with respected European festivals Roadburn, Beyond The Gates and Summer Breeze.

FRACTAL UNIVERSE Launch Video “Interfering Spherical Scenes”, New Album Out Now

June 25th, FRACTAL UNIVERSE released their new album, The Impassable Horizon, via Metal Blade Records. For a preview of the record, a video for the new single, “Interfering Spherical Scenes” [directed by Anthony Dubois (anthonydubois.fr)], can be viewed below. The video was shot on the stage of Le Moloco.

Fractal Universe comments: “We loved Anthony’s raw and immersive approach on the video. Through his lens, he managed to perfectly capture the energy and dynamics of the song.
‘The Impassable Horizon’ is our most ambitious and diverse work to-date, and we’re beyond stoked for people to finally hear it. We left no stone unturned when crafting this record from writing, to production & arrangement, it has truly been a work of passion that we are immensely proud of.”

Purchase and stream The Impassable Horizon in full at: metalblade.com/fractaluniverse – where the record is available on CD, vinyl, as well as digitally. Fans can also visit Fractal Universe‘s official store for additional vinyl and more: shop.fractaluniverseband.com

Fractal Universe adds: “The album is a fully realized conceptual record exploring the topic of preparedness-for-death – what the awareness of our mortality means to us as human beings – a theme that we think resonates with all of us even more so now in the times we live in.”

With 2019’s Rhizomes Of Insanity, France’s Fractal Universe created one of the most musically, lyrically, and emotionally complex and compelling progressive metal works of the twenty-first century. The band toured the record hard, joining heavyweights Obscura in February/March of 2020, making for one of the last tours in the world pre-pandemic, and in doing so, sated their faithful while winning legions of new followers. With its successor, The Impassable Horizon, they have gone even deeper, effortlessly following the trajectory they set themselves on to create an album that is riveting from start to finish. “We wanted to keep developing our musical personality and the natural sound we managed to get on ‘Rhizomes‘,” says drummer Clément Denys. “It’s a very versatile and complex album. Musically speaking, you will find catchy songs which are really direct, progressive and mysterious ballads with epic saxophone solos, and technical songs with intricate riffing.” Elaborates vocalist/guitarist/saxophonist Vince Wilquin, “despite the record being even more diverse, dynamic and including more clean vocals than its predecessor, the overall atmosphere is also slightly darker and more melancholic.” And with the introduction of Wilquin’s newly honed saxophone skills to their live set, alongside working with Gojira‘s Christian Andreu on their stage scenery and production, once the band return to the road they are sure to be an unmissable act.

With the first riffs and ideas for The Impassable Horizon emerging in November 2018, before Rhizomes was even released, composition for the whole record took about a year, with the last six months before entering the studio in May of 2020 dedicated to vocal preproduction/arrangements and finalizing the guitar and saxophone solos. Drums were recorded at the band’s own professional recording studio – Boundless Production Studio – in Florange, France, while the other instruments were tracked in their personal home studios. It was overseen by producer Flavien Morel, who has been working with Fractal Universe since the beginning and really understands the band’s vision. “The sessions were good,” says Denys. “We were not in a rush. This was the first record we entirely tracked in our own studios, so we were for example able to spend two complete days on sound-checking the drums, which was really comfortable.” The most demanding aspect of tracking was the vocals, which took as long to record as all of the other instrumentation combined. “Flavien really encouraged me to bring the vocal production to the next level: there are chorus sections where there are about thirty tracks of backing vocals, with every line quad-tracked, to make it sound really massive and ‘chorus-y’.” With mixing being Wilquin’s favorite part of the realization process, the point at which the record really starts to come alive, he was happy to work closely with Morel, and the finished product is everything they wanted it to be. “It feels like the natural evolution of our band sound, keeping our distinctive trademarks and incorporating new sounds and ideas,” says Wilquin, and adds Denys, “we hope the new album will reach new fans and please our current ones, which have been amazingly supportive even during the pandemic, and that it will bring the band to the next level.”

The Impassable Horizon track-listing
1. Autopoiesis
2. A Clockwork Expectation
3. Interfering Spherical Scenes
4. Symmetrical Masquerade
5. Falls of the Earth
6. Withering Snowdrops
7. Black Sails of Melancholia

The next three albums “Route Code Selector” (2009), “Hundred Light Years“ (2013) and “Earthling/Terrestre” (Dicembre 2019) came out on Punishment18records. All albums have been very well welcomed by audience and the media. In these past years LUNARSEA have shared the stage with great acts like DEATH, DARK TRANQUILLITY, RAGE, ORPHANED LAND, IMPALED NAZARENE, FIREWIND, PRIMAL FEAR, PRIMORDIAL, SWALLOW THE SUN, INSOMNIUM, OBSCURA, DARKANE, NARGAROTH, EKTOMORF, SINISTER, LEAVE’S EYES, ABORTED, DARK FUNERAL, ASPHYX, THE HAUNTED, SEPTIC FLESH, just to name a few. Among the band’s highlights, so far, is the participation on “Where Death Is Most Alive Tour”, where the band won the contest directly organized by Century Media to open the gigs of Bologna and Rome during the tour of Dark Tranquillity and Insomnium in October 2010. Elements such as growling, screaming, clean vocals, blast beat, synths and tipically power-prog riffs are the core and the peculiarity of Lunarsea style and soul.

DEF LEPPARD’s Rick Allen Talks About Art Exhibition, Charities, Neil Peart, Mutt Lange, Pete Willis, Pyromania & Montreal Crowds

Posted by tarjavirmakari on June 25, 2021
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: DEF LEPPARD, Rick Allen, The Metal Voice. Leave a comment

Jimmy Kay and Alan Dixon from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently interviewed Def Leppard Drummer / Artists Rick Allen. Rick Allen spoke about his upcoming Art exhibitions and his charities. He also spoke about coping with his post traumatic stress, famed producer Mutt Lange, Rush Drummer Neil Peart, former guitarist Pete Willis, the drum production on Pyromania and the crowds of Montreal Canada.

When asked about his upcoming  Art Exhibition at the Wentworth Galleries
“I recently did some in person art shows in South Florida. I did three shows and it was the first time I did them since March of last year. It was cool to get out there amongst the people again and you can tell people really want to get out there and really do something. It was pretty special doing that so these next dates are really just a continuation of that. When we heard the Def Leppard tour was going to be pushed again. I said I might as well do the entire Wentworth gallery tour, so that is what I am planning on doing. “

Tell us about  Wings of Hope 2021 collection
“All the proceeds of all the pieces to various projects under the umbrella or ‘Raven Drum’.  ‘Project Resiliency’   is really focused on the suffering of some of our wounded warriors. Not too many people know this but I suffer from PTSD (Posttraumatic stress disorder) not through combat trauma but through a car accident (where he lost his arm). I just saw a lot of the same traits, same triggers in them that I did in myself. I’ve been passionate about it ever since. I think the reason I do it is to inspire people to ask for help. “

What can people expect to see in regards to your art exhibition
“I think the Legend series is really interesting because it’s like a history of  all the people that inspired me and probably the reason why I became a musician in the first place.”

When asked about the next Def Leppard studio album
“There is always new music on the go and I am happy to announce in the not too distant future we will be able to present that. I think that the nice thing about technology these days is that we can be all over the planet and still share ideas or come up with new songs. So that is a given it’s always something we pride ourselves in, is the fact that we come up with new music and we don’t try and rest on Christmas past. “

When asked if there has been any contact with former guitarist Pete Willis
“If you hear Joe’s speech from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame I thought it was beautiful the way it included everybody and anything to do with the success of Def Leppard. I think the tone of that speech sort of sums up what we are about and there is no long lasting animosity towards anybody. It just so happens that Pete didn’t do well when we got out on the road, he was fine when he got home but there is no animosity. In fact Pete was very welcoming when I first joined the band. Pete Willis was so welcoming, he was kind of the first person to really put my mind at ease. I will always be thankful to Pete for that. We did all the right things and we asked him (to join the induction ceremony) . He was happy but he declined to be there.”

When asked about the recording of the drums on Pyromania
“The songs were evolving as we were in the studio so it seemed easier to me to put down a basic drum track or drum machine and to go back in and punctuate the songs after wards instead of second guessing what the songs were going to become. It then became a hybrid. some of the drum machine remained and I would overdub things or go back in and redo, it was whatever the song needed. Pyromania and Hysteria were like experiments in how to record differently, how to come up with hit songs.”

When asked about the accuracy of the Def Leppard Story (Movie) a few years back
“The Def Leppard story I feel was pretty accurate but the things that weren’t so accurate were the characters themselves. For example, Mutt Lange  would challenge you but the way you would challenge yourself, it wasn’t like cracking the whip. It was more he would push you to the limits of your physical and mental abilities. He was one of the sweetest guys I ever encountered. Mutt Lange was very instrumental in my recovery (car accident).”

When asked about his fondest memories of playing Montreal, Quebec, Canada
“Not too many people realize this but per capita Def Leppard is probably bigger in Canada then anywhere else on the planet. I think the Montreal crowd for us is the loudest thing we have ever heard. I think the crowd is in the region of 110 decibels and our sound engineer was having a hard  time competing with the sheer volume of the crowd at Montreal.”

Legendary drummer of  Def Leppard, will be making two special appearances next month at the Wentworth Galleries in Atlantic City and King of Prussia to celebrate his newest creations. Allen will appear on Saturday, July 10 at Wentworth Gallery in the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Atlantic City in addition to Sunday, July 11 at Wentworth Gallery in the King of Prussia Mall. These events are open to the public and follow the latest CDC recommendations.

This new and extraordinary collection houses originals, limited editions, the painted drum series, mixed media originals, plus the “Legends Series,” featuring new portraits of Eddie Van Halen, Kurt Cobain and Johnny Cash. A portion of each sale will benefit his Project Resiliency  where for over the last 12 years Rick and his wife Lauren Monroe have worked passionately with veterans from Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan. Allen and Wentworth Galleries will donate a portion of each and every acquisition to benefit the Foundation.

Rick Allen became the drummer for Def Leppard at age 15.  As one of the world’s best-selling music artists, Def Leppard have sold more than 100 million records worldwide, two albums with RIAA diamond certification (10 million albums sold) and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.

At the height of worldwide fame in 1984, he had a car accident that changed his life. Rick lost an arm, but turned personal tragedy into spiritual transformation and continued his musical career. While he was already a hero to millions of young people, he soon added millions of new admirers. Since then Rick has been reaching out and giving support to others all over the globe by sharing his personal experiences and his love of drumming. Over the past 13 years Rick has reached out to teenage cancer patients, children with special needs, at risk youth in crisis, families of domestic violence and veterans who have served in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan. He was awarded the Humanitarian Award by Maria Shriver’s Best Buddies of CA in 2002 and in 2012, was also awarded the prestigious Wounded Warrior Project’s Carry It Forward Award. Rick continues his work helping wounded warriors through Project Resiliency’s Warrior Resiliency Program sponsored by his charity foundation the Raven Drum Foundation.

An integral part of Rick’s creative life went public in 2012. After years of personal photographic work, Allen ventured into the fine art world with a blockbuster debut collection of abstract artwork built from rhythm.  Allen has become a pioneer in the new medium, utilizing drumsticks and rhythm to dictate abstract visuals on canvas.

That debut collection, in 2012 featured 300 pieces, quickly sold-out in its initial offering to the public and boasted a sold out exhibition.  A second collection, released in 2013, and titled “Rock-On-Canvas” met with a similar exceptional reception and helped to forge a relationship with America’s leading fine art retailer Wentworth Galleries.  The Artist is pleased to present this new Collection: “Wings of Hope 2021” in May 2021.

Join the ManiaCult and you can never leave — at least not with your life intact.

Aborted have crafted the perfect soundtrack to this sick sect, which demands human sacrifices to summon Lovecraftian demons. The sinister sound aptly snarls and snakes like the heads that worm their way out from the cult leader’s back.

It’s the same type of authority Aborted have had over the death metal masses for the 26 years since vocalist Sven de Caluwé formed the band in Belgium. As the lone original member, he’s directed the band like a demented conductor: each musician that filters through the ranks a tendril he waves around like a baton.

Aborted are shapeshifters, evolving from blazing deathgrind to groovier fare before settling into a technical approach on death metal. On 11th album ManiaCult, they split the difference between the over-the-top shred of TerrorVision and the dripping dark atmosphere achieved on follow-up La Grande Mascarade. That EP was their first as the current four-piece line-up, rounded out by drummer Ken Bedene, guitarist Ian Jekelis and bassist Stefano Franceschini.
