Saudi Arabian WASTED LAND Release First Single In Eight Years “Fade Away”

L-R – Wastend Land – Ahmed Khojah – Guitar, Emad Mujalid – Vocals, Ayman Al Ghamdi – Guitar

Saudi Arabia’s WASTED LAND have a new single coming out entitled “Fade Away”, this is following their self-titled 2013 album. Since that full-length, the band suggests that they have evolved over time from being melody and folk focused into something heavier, but still having a strong melodic base.

“Fade Away” has been in the works since 2017, and will be the first music video from the band, which can be viewed below.

Lyrically, the single talks about someone having severe depression and comparing his journey in life to that of a candle, getting shorter and shorter until it eventually burns out. Then he finds his soul’s salvation after his death. Musically, it starts with heavy doses of melody which are complimented by heavy riffs and even more melodies. To contribute to the theme of depression and life’s waning, it carries a somber and melancholic tune near the end. The band comments on the track:

“It’ll be a new mixture from our old folkish style with more heavy catchy riffs and chorus. We hope we can catch the attention from the old fans and attract new ones.”

For Wasted Land, they compose the music first and then create lyrics that fit. For this song in particular guitarist Ayman composed the lyrics a long time ago for his previous band Banj. Writing for the band is a joint endeavour between guitarists Ayman and Ahmed whenever they jam together. Vocalist Emad adds his flavours in the lyrics and of course the vocal lines.

Wasted Land originally formed in 2005 to participate in Metal II gig in Dammam. Ahmed and Ayman were jamming together and felt there was chemistry between them while composing folky melodic death metal. From there they decided to add more members to create a full band. They were one of the first Saudi metal bands to get massive media exposure from outlets like CNN, BBC radio and other local and international newspapers.

Recommended for fans of In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, and Suidakra.

“Fade Away” is available for stream and download via Saudi Arabian based label Wall of Sound Records.

MIMI BARKS Releases New Single/Video “Grind”

London based Trap Metal artist MIMI BARKS has released a new single/video ‘Grind’, the 6th single of the upcoming album DEADGIRL.

MIMI BARKS comments:

“Can’t nurture a seed without water and warmth, can’t fix someone when you’re broken inside, push down to feel superior, watched the spark ignite the fire and turn to ash, and it’s too late to realise that you can’t love anybody when you despise yourself”

If Trap Metal came screaming out of the digital womb, a sonic playa hater wired to disrupt the code of those who came before, then the likes of MIMI BARKS are the future of the glitchy genre. Her “from-the-heart-guts-n-soul” smash of trap beats and raspy, pissed-off vocals has been self-christened: “DOOM TRAP” and the name fits. It’s the bitter pill the former Berliner-now-relocated-to-London intends to smear all over the genre in a way that’s punk-as-fuck and louder-than-hell. This is the sound of music eating its young. Imagine Hip Hop word fire, electronic beats and slashing guitars chewed up and spat out by Trap’s chopped beats, distorted basslines and general weirdness.

VHF (Vinciguerra, Hoekstra, Franklin) To Re-Release Album ‘Very High Frequency’

VHF is the band featuring guitar virtuoso Joel Hoekstra (Whitesnake, Night Ranger, Trans-Siberian Orchestra,  Cher, Rock of Ages Broadway) on guitar, the fretless monster, Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder, Kenny Wayne Shepherd) on bass, and 4 x published author, master of the groove, Todd “Vinny” Vinciguerra on drums.

The band recently signed to Golden Robot Records, and they are set to re-release their 2014 album Very High Frequency digitally and via CD on June 25th. Unparalleled musicianship and mind-blowing composition greets you with VHF!

VHF’s music is created from the bottom up – that is, the drums are the creative force behind the band.

The final piece contains parts by each musician uniquely composed, completely independent of each other, and done with complete artistic freedom by each musician.

The sound of the band varies from piece to piece, but it is a combination of ethereal trippy sounds and driving rhythms, enticing the listener to create a picture or movie to play out in their mind.

“All musicians involved get to stretch their musical muscle and simultaneously showcase their abilities. ‘Shattered Insomnia’ opens the album and has an infectious energy; each instrument clearly is audible. ‘Whispers of the Soul’ is built around a Middle Eastern melody, which is prominent throughout the song. The guitar, drums and bass lay down a constant groove to keep your head bobbing. ‘Suspended Animation’ is like a Led Zeppelin composition, with a Steve Vai-ish trippy thing going on, mixed in with classical guitar runs. ‘Conception to Death’ (For 8 guitars) is another mind-bender. Very High Frequency is a trip of sonic explorations.” – John Kindred, Hard Rock Haven.net
