ODRAZA Reveal New ‘Acedia’ EP Details

ODRAZA, one of the most original and respected Polish black metal bands of today, needs no introduction. Their debut album, ‘Esperalem Tkane’ (2014), caused a real stir in the black metal underground. It quickly gained cult status and was hailed as one of the most important Polish black metal albums in recent years. Nevertheless, we had to wait six long years for a successor. However, when it was released, it confirmed the position and status of the band. ‘Rzeczom’ was enthusiastically received by both fans and critics. A year has passed and we can proudly present the band’s newest release, ‘Acedia’. Not a full length this time, but EP, will be released on May 21st as a standard jewel case CD and LP (including bonus track).

Acedia, spiritual state of listlessness, not caring or not being concerned with one’s position or the condition in the world. An inert state without pain or care. Apathy, burnout, waiting for something that will not happen and the feeling that the fullness of life and happiness are outside – beyond the one’s existence. These feelings, although no longer commonly referred to as acedia, still oppress mankind. Today, probably stronger than before. Odraza tries to illustrate them in their own characteristic cold and down-to-earth manner, but this time adds a lot of inhumane touch. Earthbound, yet reaching deep into the tired psyche and empty soul. Inhumane, but referring to  humanity. The sounds on the band’s latest release are ominous, dark, disturbing and menacing. Something bad is coming, something hurtful, something inevitable. Or is it already here? Polish duo, using not only black metal as a way of expression, paints the fearsome musical landscape. For some it may be surprising, for others – innovative, but without any doubts, it is still Odraza. Expect nothing less!  

‘Acedia’ was recorded in cooperation with Museum of Kraków and is a soundtrack of the exhibition ‘Coexistence’  presented at Museum of Podgórze (30.06.21 – 24.04.22). The exhibition deals with effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on society. It is not the first time when the band cooperates with Museum of Kraków. In 2015 there was a live recording called ‘Kir’ – a single instrumental piece, commemorating the damages of World War II.

MADMAN’S LULLABY hail from San Jose, Ca, rocking the Bay Area since 2007. 2007 also saw the first release “Unchain My Soul”. Mr. Brett – Lead Guitar is the founding member of the band, he and Eric Arbizu – Drums/Vocals have been together since 2008. In 2010 the band released “New Beginning”. 2013 saw the release of “Unhinged”, this album received glowing reviews from all over. The band was called a cross between Lynch Mob/Badlands with a touch of Black Label Society. In 2013 the band also won San Francisco radio station 107.7 ‘The Bone’s Local Licks’ contest and played the Shoreline Amphitheatre with Bad Company, Lynard Skynard and Night Ranger. 2015 MADMAN’S LULLABY played at Vasby Rock Festival in Stockholm, Sweden with the likes of WASP, Michael Schenker, Danger Danger, HEAT and more. In late 2016, after a few line-up changes, Chris Michaels – Lead vocalist and Luis Barillas – Bassist/Vocalist joined the band. 2017 the band release their 4th album “Sins Of Greed”.

MADMAN’S LULLABY have supported amongst others, Michael Schenker, Wasp, Lynch Mob, Lita Ford, Winger, LA Guns, Pat Travers, Faster Pussycat, Jake E Lee’s Red Dragon Cartel, Great White, Frank Hannon Band (Tesla), Tony MacAlpine, Richie Kotzen (Winery Dogs). MADMAN’S LULLABY has played from California SF Bay Area to Hollywood, Chicago, IL, and all the way to Stockholm, Sweden and the UK.

Melodic Rock Duo PIL & BUE Release New Single “Select 2 Players”

PIL & BUE are a forceful duo from the very depths of northern Norway, who despite their minimal format sound like a full-blown band.

Select 2 Players is a tribute to the sweet and carefree adolescents, where the music you listen to and the friends you hang out with – is everything. And later, how the thoughts, ideas, and inspirations you pick up in this period of your life seem to last forever.

Petter comments:

“Select 2 Players is a nostalgic trip down memory lane, introducing our childhood musical heroes and the eternal fire they ignited within us. Whether it is on stage or in rehearsals, Gøran and I both share a fundamental love for creating and playing music.

The title is a nudge back to our Nintendo-playing days as kids in the 90ties. As for the song itself it has nothing to do with computers or gaming, but is rather an entirely analog composition, written and created in a rehearsal space in the world´s most northern city, Hammerfest.

But we had fun and we were loud. Just like back then.”

Consisting of Gøran Johansen on drums and percussion and with one of Norway’s most unique and powerful voices, Petter Carlsen, on vocals and baritone guitar; Pil & Bue deliver an explosion of raw, hard, and melodic rock with a twist of darkness.

With subtle, but pronounced references to artists like Placebo, Deftones, Sigur Ros, Anathema and Mars Volta, Pil & Bue delivers “Hard, gloomy & joyful music…” (Metal Hammer NO) based on topics like memories, childhood aspirations, use of imagination, video games, and the intriguing online rabbit holes.

The band´s raw and melodic music quickly struck a note with Hollywood director Tommy Wirkola who included the Pil & Bue single “You Win Again” in his now cult-status movie “Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival January 2014.

Also, their single “Fire” from second album “Forget the Past, Let’s Worry About The Future” is featured on the end credits of Hollywood/Netflix blockbuster “What Happened To Monday” (2017)

SCAR OF THE SUN Release Third Single “Quantum Leap Zero II: Transition To Turbulence”

Hailing from Athens, Greece, modern metal outfit SCAR OF THE SUN will finally drop their anticipated upcoming third studio album, Inertia, this Friday, May 14, 2021, via Napalm Records!

After releasing the first powerful harbinger, “I Am The Circle”, followed by exciting title anthem, “Inertia”, the unit now sets free “Quantum Leap Zero II: Transition To Turbulence”, along with an captivating live video that was recorded when SCAR OF THE SUN supported the mighty Rotting Christ in Athens on the last show before the pandemic hit with undeterrable force. The song marks the second installment in the album’s “Quantum Leap Zero”-trilogy and wanders between harsh elements and intense, almost calm moments, giving way to singer Terry Nikas’ hard-hitting lyrics and showcases SCAR OF THE SUN’s multifaceted nature, stirring up the anticipation for Inertia even more.

“Third strike, this album is our punch to the world disarray! The most aggressive album we’ve done so far indicates our current intentions! The main concept of Inertia deals with how financial interests act against the lives of everyday normal people, no matter where you come from, since profit knows no ethics and nationalities.

We become lab rats and we struggle in our everyday life while at the same time that extreme minority that runs the financial interests see people like numbers and value our lives like ants. These are matters that concern and annoy me and I had to get them out of my chest.”

Instrumental intro “Hydrogen” stirs things up before kicking in with uncompromising title track “Inertia”, while the “Quantum Leap Zero”-trilogy conveys very intense and dramatic events that occurred in Greece in 2015: Suppression, rise/revolution and huge defeat in the end. Beginning with “Quantum Leap Zero I: Torque Control”, SCAR OF THE SUN unveils a whole new instrumental facet of the record, splicing their soundscapes with distinctively desolate vibes. “Quantum Leap Zero II: Transition To Turbulence”, on the other hand, calls for an untamed storm to annihilate everything, followed by atmospheric “Oxygen”, smashing “The Fallible Experiment” and poignant trilogy-closer “Quantum Leap Zero III: Thrust”. Inertia ends with “Anastasis” (Greek for “resurrection”), an intense track about the terrible pain of losing someone you love. With this closer, SCAR OF THE SUN manages to put agony into words and turn this palpable despair into emotive music.

Inertia was recorded and mixed by singer and songwriting mastermind Terry Nikas at Zero Gravity Studios in Athens, Greece and mastered by the legendary Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Dimmu Borgir) at Fascination Street Studios, Sweden.

And on Thursday, May 20th, Danny will be hosting a live signing event for his new must-read book, ‘ALL EXCE$$: OCCUPATION: CONCERT PROMOTER’. This special event will be hosted and moderated by none other than the world class guitarist himself, AL DIMEOLA!!! ΛΔΛΜ are an esoteric and captivating group, straddling the worlds of grunge, post-rock, alternative metal, psychedelic and stoner rock. They return with Sun, originally released 21 August 2020 but now seeing a physical re-release 4th June 2021 via famed local label Venerate Industries.

Sun is an ode to our star as a grey line on the horizon, the hope and anticipation for better days that may never even come and the spiritual liberation through a psychedelic journey between the macrocosm and the microcosm.

A concept album, Sun’s theme of fatal hope can be heard throughout, not least on the apocalyptically weighty, monolithic closer, ‘Phase #3: Eclipse’, the conclusion of a mighty 3-song saga detailing a psychedelic trip. The protagonist of the LP begins the saga in another plane of consciousness, overviewing all the problems in his life, before moving to ‘Phase #2’, defeat with hope and finally returning to earth with ‘Phase #3’.

This trilogy is an encapsulation of ΛΔΛΜ’s approach – wide-ranging, ambitious, unearthly and grounded all at once; the culmination of seven years of writing.

Bearing elements as disparate as Dopelord, Deftones, Kyuss, Paradise Lost, A Perfect Circle, and Soundgarden,  ΛΔΛΜ’s new LP was self-produced with Stelios Efendakis (Gardenbox), recorded at the Haus of ΛΔΛΜ, and mixed and mastered at Ritual Studios, Athens. Since Sun’s digital release it has amassed over 300,000 streams worldwide, and will see further success with its physical re-release.
