J.T. LOUX Release Debut Set ‘Taken By Moonlight’ Produced By TESLA Guitarist FRANK HANNON

NorCal band J.T. LOUX – featuring vocalist / guitarist J.T. Loux, bassist Ethan Pecha, and drummer Zach Cook – unleash their highly-anticipated debut album ‘Taken By Moonlight,’ available now. Teaming up with Producer Frank Hannon of TESLA, this album contains 8 brand new songs that the band has written and recorded throughout this past year.

In 2019, J.T. took notice of Zach and Ethan playing in local clubs and loved the way they grooved together as a rhythm section. Reconnecting in January of 2020, at the NAMM show, J.T. LOUX asked if Zach would be interested in recording some music together. A couple weeks later, they added bass player Ethan to start their song writing journey.

The group has set out to create their own style of modern rock music. Combining J.T.’s  songwriting, melodic singing and aggressive guitar playing, Zach’s solid hard hitting drums, and Ethan’s thunderous bass tone, these three musicians create a massive sound for a trio.

On working with producer and guitarist Frank Hannon from the multi-platinum selling band TESLA, J.T. says, “Working with Frank Hannon on this record really brought it to the next level, he helped craft and evolve these songs throughout the entire process.”

On the writing process – “The song ‘Taken By Moonlight’ went through a lot of phases over the course of making this record. Starting off as just an acoustic guitar riff, it turned into much more of a rock ballad when collaborating with the whole band.”

On shooting the video for ‘Taken By Moonlight’  – “The making of the music video  for ‘Taken By Moonlight’ was a really fun process. In order to achieve the moonlit setting we set up white sheets on all sides of the band, which included hanging a queen sized sheet 15 feet into the oak tree above us. Shining lights through the sheets, it diffused the lights and allowed for a more soft moonlight vibe.”

You can view the ‘Taken By Moonlight’ video here:

J.T. LOUX has been working non-stop on the development of harmonies. The mixture of both Zach and Ethan’s vocals have opened up endless opportunities for unique sounding melodies. Pulling inspiration from modern bands such as Jack White, Royal Blood, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Dirty Honey and Rival Sons, as well as being influenced by classic bands such as The Beatles, Jeff Buckley, Led Zeppelin, and The Doors.

At 18 years old, J.T. began to work on Frank’s ranch to help pay for studio time. When J.T. left his previous band, in late 2019, he began to sing and write his own songs at the age of 19. Through the guidance of Frank and writing/recording his demos, he discovered his own sense of style and singing voice.

J.T. was just 13 years old when he met Frank Hannon for the first time. “Growing up a huge TESLA fan, I’ve always had a huge amount of respect for Frank and his music, so to be able to work with such a talented musician/producer, I couldn’t ask for a better mentor.”

“Throughout the process of making this record, we decided to not use a click track when recording the music,” explains J.T. “We felt that it gave the songs more life as well as feeling less stiff from track to track. The song ‘Love Is a Drug’ will always hold a special place in my heart because we had spent a lot of time writing and arranging the song. When it finally came time to record, we ended up getting the whole song in the first take. Working with Frank Hannon on this record really brought it to the next level, he helped craft and evolve these songs throughout the entire process.”

Portuguese prog metallers SULLEN recently unveiled “The Mounder,” the final clip in a series of studio videos shot last Summer.

While the track appears on the band’s Post Human debut, released in 2015, it was captured live at Stone Sound Studio on August 9th, 2020 after the Nodus Tollens – Act 1: Oblivion recording sessions and displays the band’s growth as performers.

Comments drummer Marcelo Aires of the track, “‘The Mounder’ tells the tale of a lost soul that has been consumed by darkness and toxicity, and its journey to be reborn again as a godlike figure, demolishing the old world in all its frailties and conventions, rebuilding it anew, becoming higher and stronger than all with a new sense of purpose.”

View SULLEN’s “The Mounder” studio video at THIS LOCATION.

View the band’s previously released videos for “Memento” HERE, “The Prodigal Sun” HERE, and “Acheronta Movebo” HERE.

SULLEN is a collective force of multiple personalities driven by a common search for new musical possibilities. Nodus Tollens – Act 1: Oblivion establishes a sonic evolution from the band’s 2015 Post-Human debut, while retaining the somber nature that characterizes their music. Layered textures of fierce vocals, guitars, drums, synths, and sound effects are intertwined with meditative passages, all permeated by the turmoil of changing time signatures and elusive chord progressions that make for an enticing listening experience, shaking listeners to their very core and inspiring meditation into the depths of the human soul. Embrace this journey with an open mind and heart and you’ll be taken to higher realms of existence and consciousness.

Nodus Tollens – Act 1: Oblivion is available digitally via Nuclear Blast’s digital subsidiary, Blood Blast Distribution, and on limited edition CD independently by the band.

Find digital orders at THIS LOCATION where the record can be streamed in full. For physical orders, visit the SULLEN Bandcamp page HERE.

“Nodus Tollens” is a neologism by John Koenig, creator of The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, used to define the feeling of insecurity that some people get when they find that their lives don’t make sense anymore. Nodus Tollens – Act 1: Oblivion portrays the apprehension of reality and the need for a paradigm shift; the realization that you’re not following the arc of the story – you must go back and reread the chapters you skimmed to get to the good parts – and that all along you were supposed to choose your own adventure.

UK Metal Quartet HERIOT Unleash New Video ‘Dispirit’

New metal group HERIOT have released their single and brutal new video ‘Dispirit’ via Church Road Records.

The news continues Heriot‘s brilliant rise, following the releases of their two previous singles ‘Recreant’ and ‘Cleansed Existence’ and their label signing. Heriot will also be releasing a B-side with ‘Dispirit’, a surprise new track, ‘Absolute’.

The video was premiered via Revolver who have marked Heriot as “one of the most promising young bands in modern metalcore”.

You can now watch ‘Dispirit’ here:

The band comment: “With each single we’ve released so far we’ve constantly pushed ourselves, working on exploring new elements to drive our sound and ‘Dispirit’ is no exception. Lyrically, the track speaks of how having a highly regarded status can be manipulated and abused, allowing them to appear to live two lives. This is a topic that rings true with all of us, if it’s not something you’ve come across personally, it is something you can agree is evident and all around us in some way. Only when the abuser is exposed, do they face justice – “Deceiver, It’s too late for cowards truth.” This song is a call straight to the manipulator.”

Heriot are a triumphant new group, fully-focused and with a razor-sharp edge. Now a fourpiece with the addition of guitarist/vocalist Debbie Gough, the group have already started to turn heads in the UK metal scene and beyond. Weaponising metallic sludge and hardcore with their terrifying singles, Heriot have caught the attention of Rock Sound, Kerrang!, Revolver, and Knotfest, among many others. Elements of Nails, Knocked Loose, Code Orange, and Vein combine to create a new sound that is truly groundbreaking and fully worthy of the notice the band are achieving.

CASSIUS KING Announce Limited Edition 7″ Single Feat. “Traveler” And Aerosmith Cover

CASSIUS KING, led by guitarist Dan Lorenzo (Hades, Non-Fiction, Vessel Of Light) with Dangerous Toys/Broken Teeth vocalist Jason McMaster, has released a seven-inch single for the track “Traveler” with a b-side cover of Aerosmith’s “Sight for Sore Eyes,” the band’s first release with Nomad Eel Records.

“Jason has been my go-to-guy for years whenever I record cover songs with CASSIUS KING,” Lorenzo says. “He has sung Kiss’ ‘Mr. Speed,’ Cheap Trick’s ‘Big Eyes’ and Aerosmith’s “Back In The Saddle” and now ‘Sight For Sore Eyes.’”

The single is limited 40 individually numbered auburn, lathe cut thick vinyl editions at this location. Purchase also includes unlimited streaming of the songs via the Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

“”I’m very excited to announce CASSIUS KING has signed with us,” says Nomad Eel’s Damon Duster. “If you grew up in the late ‘80s or early ‘90s then chances are you know the band Dangerous Toys. When I was in my adolescent/teenage years, my sk8 club would jam to the cassette non-stop. Life has a funny way of coming full circle and I can’t be more happy about it!”

Lorenzo was focusing on his doomy Vessel Of Light project, releasing four albums within just three years, before deciding to re-visit CASSIUS KING. “Jason and I figured it was time to write some original music together,” he says. “CASSIUS KING is less doomy than Vessel Of Light. Some of the songs could almost be Hades songs.”

That said, it was logical for Lorenzo to once again recruited Hades bassist Jimmy Schulman and drummer Ron Lipnicki, who served time in Hades before sitting behind the throne with Overkill for a decade, to complete the band’s lineup. Additionally, original Hades guitarist Scott LePage contributed several solos on CASSIUS KING’s debut.

CASSIUS KING’s debut is scheduled for a late summer release. Check out below a sample of the song “Join the Exodus.”

ENSLAVED Release ‘The Crossing’ Live Video/Single

Blackened avant-gardists ENSLAVED have revealed the next passage in their 30th anniversary voyage. To celebrate the launch of their Cinematic Tour 2020 live album digital pre-orders, the band has premiered a live video for their single ‘The Crossing’, which captures an otherworldly performance of their classic song through a new modern lens.

Recorded on a dark day in summer 2020 at USF Verftet in Bergen, Norway, the performance is taken from their upcoming live release Below The Lights (Cinematic Tour 2020), which sees Enslaved play their acclaimed opus Below the Lights in its entirety. It is one part of their four new live album/DVD Cinematic Tour 2020 collection due to be released on June 25th.

Enslaved’s Grutle Kjellson commented,
“The online performance of Below The Lights was indeed a trip. There has been a huge demand for us to perform that album for some years now. Ironically, because there was very little buzz around it in the days of its initial release back in 2003. I guess we fell into the good ol’ pit in-between the chairs back then, and we got pretty puzzled when people started to shout out for those songs 10 years later!

Anyway, we are psyched and proud to present to you a special performance of the whole album, also including a sixth member, Inge Rypdal! Rypdal is a long time friend of the band and has been collaborating with Enslaved on several occasions over the years, including a stunning performance on the recordings of Below The Lights, adding a beautiful contribution on ‘A Darker Place’.

Here’s a little sneak peak! Enjoy ‘The Crossing’ and have a heavy weekend”

Never faltering, Norway’s iconic Enslaved continue to exist as one of the most original and dependable components in our scene’s indestructible backbone. Possessing the reputation as one of the most riveting live acts around, they never fail to offer us talent of the highest calibre, always doing justice to their signature black/progressive sound. Enslaved was formed in 1991 by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson releasing their first demo Yggdrasill in the summer of 1992, their legendary mini-album Hordanes Land coming out in 1993 with debut full length Vikingligr Veldi arriving in the spring of 1994.

Enslaved in 2021 is a band in stellar form, a band at its most existentialist and self-conscious, proud Bergeners bearing the torch of their hometown’s extraordinary musical history. Latest album Utgard has shown them at a stage where simply everything they touch turns to gold. Icy black metal anthems walk hand in hand with refined prog rock gems and primordial, dark folk sorcery. It’s Enslaved to the bone. And yet again a band that cast off its old skin, delivering some of their shortest songs in years while still packing them with glimmering detail. It is a journey into and through scary Utgard, showing Enslaved both unleashed and thought-through – a lethal combination unfurling a potential that’s easily rekindling the furor of their early works while dancing gracefully through their most ambitious, most haunting and most musical tunes yet. A contradiction? Life itself is a contradiction. And yet we all live to prove it wrong.
