“NOT DEAD YET” is DAVID K. STARR‘s own testimony of life’s twists and turns after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2020.
Dave says… “I originally started writing the song about what I have gone through, but then I realized its bigger then me, this song is for anyone out there dealing with life changing events, be it their health, death of a loved one, a broken heart, or whatever comes your way”. Dave continues.. “I never mention my health problems in the song, that would be too corny, so I broadened my scope and made it for anyone out there who’s going through pain”…”Its basically about standing tall and fighting for yourself, fighting to stay alive, no matter what kind of hell life throws at you”
“NOT DEAD YET” was directed by London Wilde, and features Dave singing lead vocals for the first time, as well as playing all the guitars. Backing up Dave on this new track & video are Rich Gray on bass (Annihilator, Aeon Zen) and drummer Fabio Alessandrini (Annihilator, Bonfire)

The Damned announce special new covers album ‘Not Like Everybody Else’ in tribute to Brian James through earMUSIC.
The Damned announce the release of ‘Not Like Everybody Else’, a deeply personal and celebratory covers album – dedicated to the memory of Brian James, the band’s legendary founding guitarist, who passed away on 6th March 2025. Recorded in a blistering five days of emotion and creative fire at Revolver Studio, Los Angeles, the album finds The Damned – Dave Vanian on vocals, Captain Sensible on guitar, Rat Scabies on drums, Paul Gray on bass and joined by longtime keyboardist Monty Oxymoron – reconnecting with the raw energy that started it all. ‘Not Like Everybody Else’ marks the first time in 40 years that Rat Scabies has returned to the studio with the band.
Kicking off with R. Dean Taylor’s ‘There’s A Ghost In My House’ and moving through classics like Pink Floyd’s ‘See Emily Play’ and The Animals’ ‘When I Was Young’, the album closes with a powerful farewell: ‘The Last Time’ by The Rolling Stones, featuring Brian James himself, taken from his final live performance with The Damned at Hammersmith and lovingly remixed for this release.
To celebrate the album, The Damned will play one-off covers show at Albert Hall, Manchester on 28th January 2026 performing songs from ‘Not Like Everybody Else’ alongside fan-favourite covers that have marked their career. It will be an unforgettable night honouring Brian James and the band’s shared history.
Fans who order the album through the Official Album Store starting 29th October will receive early access to release show tickets. In addition, three exclusive 7’ vinyl singles featuring previously unreleased B-sides will be available for pre-sale in the store.
Pre-save single ‘There’s A Ghost In My House’ HERE
The first single, ‘There’s A Ghost In My House’, reimagines R. Dean Taylor’s classic with The Damned’s unmistakable energy and dark charm. Driven by Captain Sensible’s urgent guitar and Dave Vanian’s atmospheric vocal delivery, the track perfectly blends Northern soul spirit and gothic rock swagger. It’s both a nod to Brian James’s love of raw, melodic power and a reminder of The Damned’s gift for turning familiar songs into something entirely their own.
The single ‘There’s A Ghost In My House,’ accompanied by a music video directed by Gilbert Trejo and filmed during the band’s recent US tour – including their legendary show at the inaugural CBGBs Festival in Brooklyn, New York – will be released on 30th October.
Set to coincide with The Damned’s 50th anniversary celebrations, ‘Not Like Everybody Else’ is a heartfelt homage, and a testament to the enduring spirit of one of punk’s most pioneering bands.
50 years of The Damned also means 50 years of punk, with the explosion of 1976 hitting a half century. The band jump started the revolution, releasing the first UK punk single in ‘New Rose’ and album ‘Damned, Damned, Damned’. Brian James wrote that debut single and was lead songwriter on the album. He left the group after the release of their second album, ‘Music For Pleasure’ in 1977.
The band earned an ever-expanding fan base fueled by legendary live shows, while their dark lyrics and Dave Vanian’s rich baritone vocals catapulted them to the forefront of the Goth-Rock genre.
The Damned have announced a special 50th anniversary show at OVO Arena Wembley on Saturday 11th April 2026, marking five decades since the band first exploded onto the scene as one of the founders of British punk rock. The milestone celebration will also feature special guests The Loveless featuring Marc Almond, Peter Hook And The Light and The Courettes.

Transcending Obscurity issued: While most bands have a familiar sound, Death Obvious have an unconventional, cohesive blend of sounds that I found alluring and it kept drawing me back to it at the end of the day. Even though the album was self-released on Bandcamp earlier in the year, to support music of this kind would only encourage more of such music to be created, and so we’ve decided to give it a proper release along with an additional song integral to the flow of the album. The album also has a new cover in the form of a photo taken by Petri Kiviniemi and there’s a specially made different artwork for merch by CVSPE.
Tracklisting – 1. Mercury Off Axis 2. Santuario 3. The Great Gate Theory 4. Total Heavenly Desolation 5. The Third Eye Burning 6. Suffer The Spectacle 7. As Absence Expands Over Everything 8. Catechismus For The Plagued
Death Obvious came out of nowhere to release a debut album that coalesces elements of black, death, and even doom metal to create a harrowing albeit intriguing sound that’s strangely both alarming and comforting in parts. Without adhering to any particular style or school, they’re just going about crafting music as it suits their demented vision in a recklessly intuitive manner, a cacophony of hurtling sounds that somehow hits the mark. The songs sound like excursions into pitch-black darkness, not knowing what’s coming next, while the listener remains terrified, haunted by monstrous and spectral voices coming and going. Their sound might not be easily penetrable at first but it remains strongly alluring, imploring for more time and understanding, waiting for its mysteries to be unravelled with multiple visitations. The Finnish duo are onto something here, having created an exceptional and mature release right off the bat, one that deserves as much attention as it can possibly get before it gets lost in the annals of history. This release is not a rebirth but a necessary resuscitation.
