Melancholic black metal symbiosis SOJOURNER paves the way for another undeniably impressive next chapter with their outstanding new offering, the mini-EP Perennial, to be released digitally and as a strictly limited ivory vinyl edition on June 4, 2021 via Napalm Records.

Today, the maestros of levitating bleakness have unveiled a captivating piece of art, the bewitching hymn “Perennial”, featuring new vocalist Lucia Amelia Emmanueli for the first time. A visually inspiring music video captures the undeniably breathtaking beauty of untouched nature while SOJOURNER interweave angelic vocals and brutal growls, carried by a sonic layer of atmospheric black metal spliced with romantic folk influences.

Vocalist Emilio Crespo says about “Perennial”:
“With wanting to revisit the old style of SOJOURNER I decided to tap into our roots on a lyrical level. ‘Perennial’ very much follows the thread of nature and it’s loss at our very own hands. This theme was prevalent in several songs on our first album so it made sense to revisit that. The vocals were meticulously worked on with Lucia to make sure that every single word worked in its tone and placement. Later, with Tom joining in on backing vocals at the very end, we truly felt happy with the end result. We are super excited about our future with our two new awesome members!”

Watch the dreamlike video for “Perennial ”HERE:

Like no other, SOJOURNER captivates the listener by combining harsh black metal influences and instrumental folk interludes with atmospheric soundscapes, while painting a picture of unexplored nature alongside an endless journey towards the horizon.

Songwriter and musician Mike Lamb says:
“When I approached the songwriting for this mini EP I wanted to do something special that encompassed both where we began and where we are today, because while we’ve grown and changed over the last 6 years we still have the same passion and vision for the band that brought us together initially. I approached both the songwriting and recording for this EP in the same way that I did on Empires of Ash and The Shadowed Road, even down to recording all of the instruments back in New Zealand again for the first time since we began, in the same room where I wrote ‘Heritage of the Natural Realm‘ in 2015.

It also seemed like a fitting time to do something that sat somewhere between a reinterpretation of ‘Heritage…’ and a sequel of sorts for the second EP track, ‘Relics of the Natural Realm’, bringing our 2015 beginnings full circle back to where we are now and the band that we’ve evolved into in 2021. This is reflected in the cover art, again by our good friend Jordan Grimmer who did the original Empires of Ash cover, showing the meeting of SOJOURNER both past and present. We couldn’t be happier with our incredibly talented new members, both of who turned in absolutely beautiful vocal performances, and we’re so excited about the bright future ahead for the band.”

Pre-Order Perennial NOW

“Perennial” comes along with the stunning hymn “Relics of the Natural Realm”, a sequel to the band’s very first song “Heritage of the Natural Realm”, capturing the identity of wilderness transferred into beautiful melodies and enchanting vocals.

Throughout their meaningful lyricism, erupting with Emilio Crespo’s intense growls while being carried on via the ethereal vocals of new vocalist Lucia Amelia Emmanueli, SOJOURNER reaches the innermost soul, leaving a long lasting impact. With color of their own and unique musical identity, and every note of this exceptional progression created by songwriting genius Mike Lamb, the six-piece is ready to write another chapter in their marvelous book of atmospheric black metal tales.

Perennial tracklist:
1. Perennial
2. Relics of the Natural Realm

In addition to this atmospheric daydream, Napalm Records is proud to announce that the international six-piece has joined forces with in-house booking agency Napalm Events!

Emilio on signing with Napalm Events:
“When Thorsten and I had our first meeting, it was apparent that we shared the same goal for SOJOURNER; to bring the band to the next level and all over the globe! We are certain that this new partnership will bring fantastic opportunities for us. See you all out on the road!”

Sensory Records is preparing for their mid-May worldwide release of Mountain Fever, the dynamic fourth LP from Israeli progressive metal outfit, SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE. With the new record less than three weeks from its official street date, new footage from the band’s recent festival performances has been made publicly available.

Mountain Fever was recorded in Golan Heights, Israel with engineer David Castillo, after which it was sent to Fascination Street in Örebro, Sweden (Leprous, Katatonia, Opeth) where it was mixed by Jens Bogren and mastered by Tony Lindgren, then completed with artwork and layout by Costin Chioreanu of Twilight 13 Media. The record features several notable guest contributions, including drums from Matan Shmuely (Orphaned Land), bouzouki and lead guitars on “Mångata” by Idan Amsalem (Orphaned Land), and vocals on “Somewhere I Sadly Belong” by Melechesh Ashmedi (Melechesh) and Jackie Hole (The Super Things).

In December, SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE appeared as one of the headlining acts for Progspace’s international holiday virtual festival event, where they performed a twenty-minute set including the first live performance of the lead single from Mountain Fever, “Ascend.” Earlier this month, the band took part in the Japanese virtual Counter Corona Festival, where they performed the track “Nomad.”

Boasting ten new songs, Mountain Fever sees SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE continuing to push the balance between pioneering experimentalism to their own take on modern pop culture and its manifestation in the Middle East. With nearly an hour of engaging music, revealing an album composed of African and Balkan brass sections, Arabic violins, extended vocal techniques, and several special guest appearances, the band explores radio friendly hooks that emerge out of heavy riffs and polychromatic arrangements.

IMPURE WILHELMINA will be releasing their seventh full-length, ‘Antidote,’ on May 21 via Season of Mist! The band is now sharing the brand-new track “Midlife Hollow” along with an accompanying music video, which was directed by Steven Blatter / Progressive Pictures. The song can be found at THIS LOCATION.

The band comments: “‘Midlife Hollow’ has always been one of our favourite tracks from ‘Antidpte.’ Musically speaking, it is rather atypical in its construction while remaining perfectly coherent with the band’s universe. In an atmosphere both tense and melancholic, the song speaks of the loss of illusions, the extinction of the inner fire, the rise of bitterness, the settling into solitude and the awareness of the brevity of existence. We are confronted with an unalterable destiny that holds us in its iron hand, as evoked by the telluric finale of the track.”

‘Antidote’ is due on May 21 and can be pre-ordered in various formats HERE.

Track-list
1. Solitude (6:20)
2. Midlife Hollow (5:24)
3. Gravel (4:50)
4. Dismantling (4:58)
5. Jasmines (5:40)
6. Vicious (4:03)
7. Torrent (4:38)
8. Unpredicted Sky (7:52)
9. Antidote (1:40)
10. Everything Is Vain (7:19)

US Speed Metal Legends BLOODLUST To Reissue Back Catalog Via Skol Records

BLOODLUST is a legendary US Speed / Heavy Metal band, formed in 1983 in Los Angeles. The band was active between 1983 and 1988, and established their position in the underground by sharing the stage with acts such as MEGADETH, SAVATAGE or FLOTSAM AND JETSAM. Their debut LP entitled “Guilty As Sin” came out in 1986 on Metal Blade Records, and two years later the band released the “Terminal Velocity” EP. The band recently returned, and plays occasional live shows. Past and current BLOODLUST members also played in acts such as ABATTOIR, RUTHLESS and BITCH.

Skol Records will issue limited expanded CD editions of band’s two original releases, re-mastered from best existing sources by Bart Gabriel (HEXX, MILITIA, CIRITH UNGOL), incl. bonus tracks, and with thick booklets with tons of previously unseen photos, lyrics, and liner notes written by members of MEGADETH, DARK ANGEL, BITCH and BODY COUNT. “Guilty As Sin” reissue will include 3 bonus tracks taken from the “Anti-Life” demo from 1987, and the “Terminal Velocity” EP has been extended to the size of a full length album, as it will include 5 previously unreleased extra tracks – 3 from 1987, and 2 recorded in 2005. The reissues will be available on August 20, 2021. Limited edition vinyl versions of both albums will be released by Lost Realm Records.

“Great news to hear anything new about Bloodlust. I play them on GimmeMetal.com on The Dave Mustaine Show all the time, and I’m sure this is going to DESTROY!” – (Dave Mustaine / MEGADETH)

“So cool to see the Bloodlust boys back in action! They were good friends and played shows with us in our early Megadeth days, including the night we signed to Capitol Records at The Country Club in Los Angeles (1986). Many years, many stories later… Can’t wait for new release!” (David Ellefson / MEGADETH)

AMORPHIS guitarist Esa Holopainen‘s solo project SILVER LAKE will release the self-titled debut album on May 28th via Nuclear Blast, Ft. Björn ‘Speed’ Strid, Anneke Van Giersbergen + Members of AMORPHIS, KATATONIA, LEPROUS + More!

Esa Holopainen on the album: “Over the last few years, I have been writing a lot of music, and some of the stuff hasn’t exactly sounded like Amorphis. When Nino Laurenne, owner of Sonic Pump Studios called me late March, I already had three decent-sounding SILVER LAKE songs in stock. These tracks, entitled ‘Sentiment’, ‘Ray of Light’ and ‘Promising Sun’, worked as the backbone for the full solo album.”

“At first, I really didn’t know if the album would turn out to be purely instrumental or would there be vocalists as well. However, one thing was certain, I wouldn’t be the singer of SILVER LAKE. Therefore I started to ask several friends and favourite singers of mine that joined me from their home studios on these 9 new tracks to be featured on SILVER LAKE By ESA HOLOPAINEN”

Tracklist:
Silver Lake (instrumental)
Sentiment (feat. Jonas Renkse of Katatonia)
Storm (feat. Håkan Hemlin of Nordman)
Ray Of Light (feat. Einar Solberg of Leprous)
Alkusointu (feat. Vesa-Matti Loiri)
In Her Solitude (feat Tomi Joutsen of Amorphis)
Promising Sun (feat. Björn ‘Speed’ Strid of Soilwork / The Night Flight Orchestra)
Fading Moon (feat. Anneke Van Giersbergen)
Apprentice (feat. Jonas Renkse of Katatonia)
The moody cover art work was created by Metastazis.
