To mark the release of the latest single “Stars Are My Guide” off their new Violence of the Skies, PRIMITAI have pulled out a special surprise for their fans – an accompanying 2D retro computer game about navigating through space on a futuristic motorbike, to the soundtrack of the new single! The game was developed by their very own bass player Scott Miller who moonlights as a web programmer.

As well as the epic “journey through space” storyline of the song, the main inspiration for developing the game goes back to the bandmembers’ 90s childhood.  Brothers Scott and singer Guy, along with childhood friend and drummer Jonny, spent hours on their SNES Super Nintendo console and a favourite was the punishingly difficult but awesome “Battletoads in Battlemaniacs”. Taking the 2D space-age motorcycle-racing level as a concept, Scott set about building a game using HTML, pure Javascript, CSS and the Greensock animation library.

As the idea took off it quickly became not just a game, but a full on Primitai experience – “I suddenly thought it’d be fun if the rider shouted things every time you crashed and burned or did a crazy stunt,  so I started looking through all the Primitai lyrics for the best catchphrases.  Then it dawned on me to make every band member a playable character, each with their own quirks… it just kept snowballing!” – Scott recalled in a recent interview regarding the project. Countless hours of development later, the game is now ready to unleash to the world.

Facing very personal experiences, Culling Culture is a tribute to hate, betrayal and anger, whilst also reflecting post-modern society with strikingly honest songwriting and heavy groove. Moreover, for as confident as they are musically, VEXED is as poignant lyrically. The title of the album, Culling Culture, and portions of its contents deliver the band’s unfiltered response to the world’s latest social phenomena of public ostracism, “cancel culture”.

Unrelenting lead vocalist Megan Targett’s vicious vocal assault blending venomously low growls, soaring cleans and razor-sharp rap-like deliveries (see “Fake” and “Weaponise”) is backed by the pure technical proficiency of bandmates Willem Mason-Geraghty (drums), Jay Bacon (guitar) and Al Harper (bass). The warning instrumental “Ignorant” prefaces the record’s menacing atmosphere and provides a flawless basis for smashing wake up call “Hideous” and fiery, threatening tracks “Fake” and “Narcissist”. JASON BECKER Fundraiser & Celebration (Hosted in Part by DragonForce Guitarist Herman Li) To Take Place On Twitch, Reverb

Throughout March and April, some of the world’s greatest guitarists will come together to raise money and celebrate the music of legendary guitarist and composer JASON BECKER, who has been living with ALS for over 30 years and continues to compose and record music.

The virtual event, hosted in part by DragonForce guitarist Herman Li, will include three components:

1) A livestream telethon-style fundraiser on Twitch: special guests will appear on Herman Li’s Twitch channel (twitch.tv/hermanli) to play, jam and participate in fan-generated challenges with all money raised going directly to Jason’s medical trust. 2) Artists will donate signed guitars, merch and other rare items which will be sold via a special Reverb shop to benefit Jason. Details TBA.

夢遊病者 (SLEEPWALKER) Release New Album “Noč Na Krayu Sveta”

Sentient Ruin is happy to present you with the imminent release of “Noč Na Krayu Sveta”, the new mind-expanding album by experimental black metal alchemists 夢遊病者 (Sleepwalker).

The Russian/Japanese/American experimental ritualistic black metal entity re-emerges from slumber with this two-song/half-hour LP of liquefying hallucinogenic sonic alchemy and transcendental avant-garde excellence. In the vast two-song composition 夢遊病者 morph into their most abstract and defiant state yet, reaching a state of near-ethereal cinematic deconstructionism that only leaves vague traces and queues of their primordial and vast melting pot of influences. Within, black metal, kraut, noise rock, free-jazz, drone, middle-eastern incantations and ritualistic psychedelia are melted down in a lysergic kaleidoscopic frenzy of sounds and then sublimated to reach a new zenith of masterful immateriality which consecrates the band at its most ambitious and confrontational state yet. Challenging the listener’s senses and perception at multiple levels, “Noč Na Krayu Sveta” pries the mind open to enter its deepest levels, defying its boundaries and expectations almost with arrogant unpredictability, crossing thresholds of experimentalism and of creative ambition we hadn’t yet fathomed in the band’s still short but extraordinary career, but which we can now gaze into in complete awe and wonder. The result… something standing astonishingly between Ved Buens Ende, Zeni Geva, Bohren And Der Club of Gore, Galloping Coroners, Urfaust, and The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble.

Leading up to the release the track “Boundless Love / Resilience” was premiered by Last Rites, and the notorious metal blog also conducted and in depth interview with guitarist/vocalist PBV. In their feature Last Rites explained that “while the black metal atmosphere and undeniable heaviness of the album, drenched in jazz-laden compositions and free interpretation along with the krautrock ambition to discover new and exciting sounds, remains at the core of the band, it somehow exists outside of these boundaries” – you can check out the feature HERE.

JOHNNY THUNDERS’ New Single ‘Chinese Rocks’ Out Now

JOHNNY THUNDERS is a true punk rock legend. He shot to stardom as a founding member of the iconic NEW YORK DOLLS. After a stint with the Dolls he then went on to for his own band Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers.  Thunders sadly lost his life in 1991 aged just 38, but his legacy lives on to this day. Thunders was one of the true Godfathers of the US Punk scene.

Golden Robot Records / Die Laughing Records have released a live single Chinese Rocks, which is taken from the upcoming live album; Cosa Nostra: Live At The Mudd Club 1983 Gothenburg, which will be available as limited edition vinyl and on all streaming platforms.

ABOUT JOHNNY THUNDERS

Born in Queens, NY in 1952, he fell in love with rock ’n’ roll at a young age and turned his back on a potentially successful baseball career to start the legendary New York Dolls; the band that spawned hundreds of other hopeful rock ’n’ roll bands.

When the New York Dolls folded, JT and drummer Jerry Nolan went back to New York’s budding punk rock scene to start the Heartbreakers; an iconic band if there ever was one.

Their raw, wild and ‘dirty’ sound became engraved in the minds of all those young punks and it’s fair to say they were more than a major influence on the London punk scene.​

Over the years the Heartbreakers toured on and off and they always kept that magic from the early days. Everybody remembers ‘Chinese Rocks’, ‘Born to lose’ and other gems embedded in our hearts and minds forever.

Solo, Johnny Thunders showed a vulnerable, deeply sensitive and poetic side to his rocker persona, with masterpieces like ‘Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory’, and ‘So Alone’.

Whatever his personal circumstances and demons he had to fight, he never lost his love for rock ’n’ roll, his unique personal sense of style or signature sound; that influenced so many.​

JT just can’t leave anyone indifferent, and that continues to this day, even after his untimely passing, at age 38, in New Orleans, a sad day for music.

Johnny Thunders and the ‘Cosa Nostra’ performance is the full length recording at The Mudd Club in Gothenburg, Sweden on June 16, 1983.

REINFORCER Sign Multi-Album Deal With Scarlet Records, Debut Album ‘Prince of the Tribes’ Out In June

German heavy metallers REINFORCER have signed a multi-album deal with Scarlet Records.

With their first full-length album ‘Prince of the Tribes’, coming out in June, Reinforcer go one step further on the path that they started in 2015 and reached its first peak in 2018 with the release of the well acknowledged debut-EP ‘The Wanderer’.

The five piece from Paderborn combines classic heavy metal with an epic power metal approach and takes the listeners on a journey full of dual lead guitars and heroic melodies.
