FROM THE SKY Release Self-Titled Album On January 22nd

Swedish rockers FROM THE SKY will release their self-titled album “From The Sky” on January 22nd, 2021.

After years of touring and writing the songs for his rockband Bonafide Pontus  Snibb wanted to get behind the drums again in a BIG way. And while back there,  why not sing too. He asked his friends Sampo Axelsson and Staffan Österlind  who’ve been playing with him for twenty something years and in their “Tribute  To Led Zeppelin” band and asked if they felt like forming a trio ala 70-s rock  and something very Zeppelinesque.

The answer was no… or actually it was Hell  Yeah! let’s do it!

They started writing songs together and there was an instant “click” of joy,  musicality & playmanship.

They asked Lennart Östlund from The Polar Studios if he wanted to record  From The Sky in his studio and the answer was yes. Having recorded some of  From The Sky’s major influences like Rush and Led Zeppelin they didn’t want  to see anybody but Lennart behind the console tracking From The Sky.

The album was recorded live in the studio during two evenings and then some  overdubs later on. It was mixed and mastered by Staffan Österlind with Pontus  Snibb and Sampo Axelsson’s sensitive ears helping out.

This is an album that takes you back to the time when the musicians played  together in the studio and kept the best take out of many (three in our case…). This is an album that we want to listen to even if it wasn’t us.

About FROM THE SKY:

PONTUS SNIBB (Singer, guitarist & drummer)
has been working with a lot of artists like Mats Ronander, Louise Hoffsten, Mikael Wiehe, Ralf Gyllenhammar, Mikael Rickfors, Sven Zetterberg, Papa Dee, Conny Bloom and Charlie Musselwhite to name a few. Musselwhite recorded one of my songs on his Blues Grammy nominated album “One Night In America”.

He also wrote Sweden Rock Festivals main song “Fill Your Head With Rock” which they´ve used ever since for all commercial stuff about the festival. 2 years ago it was accompanied by fireworks seen by 350000 people at the years grand finale. Dee Snider on stage doing “air vocals” miming him.

Since 2008 he’s the drummer of Nashville based Jason & The Scorchers. Been touring the states and Europe many times with that band.

Supported the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Deep Purple, ZZ Top, Nazareth, Europe to name a few.

SAMPO AXELSSON (bas, Keys)
Over the years Sampo Axelsson has come to collaborate with a number of artist and groups, both as touring musician, songwriter and, on some occasions, producer. ”I’ve got the pleasure to work with some very talented and well known name in the music business and I’m truly grateful for that.”

Sampo grove up listening to bands like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and others classic rock bands so when the opportunity to tour and write songs with ex Purple member Glen Hughes came up there was no hesitation to join. The collaboration resulted in tours in Japan and Europe and also in co-writing songs for two albums. One song actually ended up having another legend on organ: Keith Emerson from Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

In the early 2000’s Sampo joined Swedish hard rock/metal band Lion’s Share. A very exiting couple of years followed with tours, festivals, two world wide records and collaboration with artists and musicians like Bruce Kulick (Kiss), Glen Drover (Megadeth), Michael Romeo (Symphony X)

A collaboration with Skintrade singer Matti Alfonzetti, named Road To Ruin, resulted in a critically acclaimed self titled album. On this album Sampo also did most of the keyboard parts besides playing the bass.

Sampo has been writing music in a number of different styles over the years: Hard rock/Metal, Country Rock, Progressive rock, theme music for Swedish national TV (SVT). One of his songs ended up on a grammy winning album with the Swedish band Joyride.

In recent years Sampo has done several tours with the Australian progrocker Mike Mills (known from Ayerons Universe) a.k.a. Toehider, In late 2019 Sampo joined the band HFMC led by the singer from Swedish prog rockers, and grammy nominees, The Flower Kings: Hasse Fröberg.

STAFFAN ÖSTERLIND (Guitar)
Staffan Österlind is a Swedish guitarist, producer, songwriter and audio engineer.
At the age of seven he began listening to Swedish pop bands like Gyllene Tider and Secret Service like most kids his age in the early 80’s but thanks to his older brother bands like Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath soon caught his attention. Little would he know that 25 years later he would tour the world playing the guitar with the singer from Iron Maiden; Paul DiAnno.

In 1993 Staffan moved to Malmö and started studying at the University Collage of Music with Electric Guitar as the major subject. That same year he formed A Tribute To Led Zeppelin with Pontus Snibb which started a long friendship that would years later lead to From The Sky.

After graduating with honors in 1997 (master’s degree) Staffan started teaching music at the Senior Highschool of Music in Helsingborg, Sweden. Some of his students would later make names for themselves in bands like The Sounds and Smith & Thell. While teaching Staffan played and toured with several bands and artists and released a few albums with Sounds Like Sarah, Bloom and Slived Voodoos.

Between 2005 and 2008 he played in 13 countries with DiAnno, including Russia, India, Spain, Venezuela, Greece and many more. Staffan also produced and recorded Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” with Paul DiAnno to be released on several Led Zeppelin tribute albums through Cleopatra Records. He also mixed and mastered all the CD’s and DVD’s from Sweden Rock Festival with artists such as Alice Cooper, Motörhead, Sammy Hagar and Magnum to name but a few.

After several years touring the world with Paul DiAnno and teaching music Staffan moved to Los Angeles in 2009. There he took a degree in music production at Musician’s Institute in Hollywood. After graduating MI he worked at Guitar Center in Hollywood (with major customers like Johnny Depp, Seal, Steven Tyler and various different stars) and toured the States with Tuff, Willie Bass (taking over from previous guitarists Slash, Paul Gilbert and Georg Lynch), LA Velvet, Stacy Barthe and Black Robot.

Black Robot (produced by Dave Cobb) went number one on iTunes US rock chart in 2010 and went viral on VH 1 all over the world with their singel and video Cocaine.

He also worked as a studio session guitarist and tracked guitars for famed producer Tony Deniro, Macy Grey, members of Run DMC, Evan Ross and Motown Records as well as several Sunset Strip rockbands. Staffan got headhunted for Beck and can be seen in Beck’s Sound And Vision. In Hollywood he managed to sneak in his foot in the movie industry as well and did sound design and music score for some indie movies and can also be seen and heard in Huell Howser’s California’s Gold. When he was asked to perform with a Canadian singer at the Emmy Awards in Las Vegas he of course said yes. Good for the CV.

Staffan is now a Stockholm resident, touring on a regular basis with different bands and artists in Sweden and Europe and is still doing guitar tracking for artists in LA. He also mix and master records and produced the best selling album, Always A lot, Never Little with Swedish rockband Close Quarters. The album went number one on Swedish rock charts in 2015.

Lately he has been performing with major bands like The Quireboys and Miljenco Matijevic from Steel Heart and as a member of Arrival From Sweden he tours the world (as Björn) playing huge ABBA shows with some original members from ABBA’s records.

TUSMØRKE Release New Single “Ride the Whimbrel” From Upcoming Album

If there is one thing you can expect from TUSMØRKE it’s the unexpected, and so it is with their upcoming album “Nordisk Krim”, which is set for release on Karisma Records on the 26th February.

It is an album Psychedelic Folk Rock Proggers have long-dreamt of making, because it deals with one of their fascinations in life – the Danish Bog Bodies, which they first saw when they visited the museums at Moesgaard and Silkeborg as children and remained transfixed by the black bodies with their orange hair.

And today the band has chosen to release “Ride the Whimbrel”, the opening track from “Nordisk Krim” as a single, and you can stream or download it from various services at this location.

TUSMØRKE had this to say about the tack:

“Ride the Whibrel “is an homage to the spirits of the wetlands. Scouting the reedbeds for waders in the mist, heavy wings overhead glide in and out of focus. Riding the timbrel; villagers would parade their victim in a cart before ducking them in the village pond. Riding the whimbrel; the ethereal body of the drowned float through the fog in the plumage of large shorebirds. Picture a pink flamingo by a kidney shaped pool; then shrink the bird, make it dusky and give it a bill the shape of the new moon; then replace the pool with an archaeological dig in a dark, dank, Danish moor; now you may ride the whimbrel.”

Regarding the title of the album itself, TUSMØRKE explained that:

“Nordisk Krim”, which means Nordic Crime, refers to the fact that the bog bodies were first thought to be a police matter. In reality, the true crime was disturbing the gifts to the gods in their slumber. Nordisk Krim celebrates the willing victims of ancient rites, those whose bodies are in the bog, but whose souls are among the stars in the heavens.

The lineup on “Nordisk Krim”  includes  Benediktator (bass & vocals), Krizla (flute & vocals), HlewagastiR (drums), Haugebonden Gode Gullstein (keys) and Åsa Ree (violin), who recorded and produced the whole thing  in Benedikator’s home studio (Det Ytre Rommet). Apart, of course, from some field recordings and some bubble noises recorded in the bathtub (The Bubble Bath of Blood)!

With artwork by Anne Margrete Sjøflot, track listing on “Nordisk Krim”, which is a double concept album coming in at a whopping 82 minutes, is as follows:

  1. Ride the Whimbrel
  2. Age of Iron Man
  3. Mumia
  4. Cauldron Bog
  5. Dog’s Flesh
  6. Moss Goddess
  7. Black Incubation
  8. Et Moselik
  9. Heksejakt
  10. (The Marvellous and Murderous) Mysteries of Sacrifice

“Nordisk Krim” will be available in digital, double CD and double LP formats, with the vinyl being limited to 666 copies in transparent magenta.  It can be pre-ordered from:

Brian Wheat: “David Lee Roth Wanted to Manage Tesla in the 80’s But We Were Already w/ Q Prime”

Posted by tarjavirmakari on January 17, 2021

Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke with Tesla’s Bassist Brain Wheat about his new book “Son of A Milkman‘ Which was released December 1 2020 via Post Hill Press.

Why did you feel you had to write a book?
“I talk about this early in the book when I was in therapy in 1990. The doctor said one day you should consider writing a book, I think it would be helpful with you and your anxiety and stress and letting shit go. I said yeah sure I’m gonna write a book in 1990, no one gives a fuc*k? He said it was part of his therapy for me to  just write it down so I can let it go. So I said yeah cool whatever but I didn’t write anything down just kept going through my life. But when I hit 50 (years old) eight years ago. I thought to myself I’m 50 years old, I’ve been doing this Tesla thing for about 25 years maybe it’s time to write a book about my life, maybe someone will be interested. Now when the book comes out I’m 58 Tesla has been a band for about 35 years so it’s time.”

Which part of your career are you most proud of?
“I said in the book that I am more proud of the second half of Tesla’s career than the first half and I’m not talking about the records I’m talking about the band persevering. The second half our career has been us all on our own doing it ourselves and that is what I am really proud of. The first half we had the big giant machine we had Q Prime (Management), Geffen Records, we had MTV we had all these things that help make bands big. But in the second half of our career after we got back together it’s all up to us to carve out a niche for ourselves and we did and I am really proud of that.”

What was it like to be on tour and open for David Lee Roth? Is he the same person we see on TV?
“He is always in David mode, to be quite honest with you I only spoke to him one time the whole tour. We walked in a room and it was all David mode, that whole it’s Dave TV thing, that was my take on him. Like I said I only got to spoke to him one time and he wanted to manage the band (Tesla). Talk about coming out of left field he said guys I really want to manage you. We are like whoa ok well we got this management Q prime you heard of them and that was it.”

Describe the relationship between Tesla and Def Leppard over the years
“Def Leppard are kind of like our big brothers and mentors. We started out with them when we were just starting to develop. After David lee Roth (Eat Em and Smile Tour) we went on the Hysteria tour.  They took us under their wing and even before that we kind of modeled ourselves after them. We used to play their songs when we did covers. And me and Joe (Elliot) just bonded one night in New York in rehearsals for the American tour over Paul McCartney, when he came into Frank’s (Hannons) room. We both had this love of Paul McCartney and Wings and we just connected with him and we have always been really good friends ever since then. Joe is the same guy now that he was then, never changed. We like playing with Def Leppard, the show is a good show, both bands together makes for a good show, it’s just a good match.”

You met Def Leppard before Tesla right, what was it like meeting them back then?
“I met Rick Allen and Pete Willis when I was a kid as a fan, I met them on the High and Dry (tour) and I went back to their hotel and smoked weed with Pete Willis and Rick Allen and then four years later I am on tour with them, it’s like weird? Pete Willis was really short and he had these little elf  boots on but he was really cool and then one of my friends that was with me said something that kind of pissed him off. And Rick Allen is the exact same Rick Allen from that night at that Holiday Inn after the High and Dry Tour to today. There is a strong bond between Tesla and Def Leppard, I think they look at us like we remind them of themselves when they were younger but they are not that much older than us.”

How did you develop a relationship with Jimmy Page and you’re not even a guitar player
“Probably cause I’m not a guitar player and I met Jimmy backstage at Hammersmith Odeon London with my good friend Ross Halfin who is like Jimmy’s brother. When I met Jimmy, Ross said don’t fanboy out on him. Jimmy Page said to me that day, I really like Five man Acoustic Jam I think it’s great. I said excuse me? Five Man Acoustic Jam your Record. I said I didn’t even think you knew who I was? Page said of course I know who you are, you’re Brian in Tesla we are on the same label. He said I love you record, you’re the first band to do an all live acoustic album and just from that we just became friends and now we are really good buddies he is the one who got me into collecting vinyl records again.”

On a side note is Tesla working on a new Studio Album or doing any live streams since there are no live shows?
“I don’t think so, I don’t know, Tesla is the kind of band that feeds off the crowd, it’s a live experience, when you say live it’s live. It’s hard for us to do that, that’s probably why we were not that good at doing videos. We got approached earlier for that and said no. If we don’t end up playing this year maybe we will do just one purely for the fans. Maybe more of a round table interactive thing. In regards to new material we have to be in a room together. My buddies in Def Leppard are making a record and the members are in different places all over the world and they send files to a central place in Ireland. Tesla can’t make a record like that, that’s not how we do things. And God bless them for being able to do it but we just can’t. We are very much in the old school kind of way.” I think the next record will go a different way a bit more organic instead of so produced (like the last one) and maybe we will try to do this one on our own.”

Brian Wheat is far from your typical rock star. As bassist for the multi-platinum band, Tesla, he’s enjoyed the spoils of success and lived the sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle to the hilt. But it came at a cost, one that took years to repair. In this deeply honest and utterly revealing memoir, Wheat sheds light on the many challenges he faces, including bulimia, weight issues, and the crippling anxiety and depression caused by his conditions. Just like the songs his legendary band made, this is no-nonsense, bluecollar storytelling at its best. While revealing the vulnerable human behind the bass guitar, this autobiography also offers tremendous stories of life on the road, and collaborations and encounters with legendary figures like his pals in Def Leppard, David Lee Roth, Alice Cooper, and Paul McCartney. Son of a Milkman will entertain, surprise, and inspire.

VESTINDIEN Reveal New Single “Meldrøye” From Upcoming Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on January 17, 2021
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: VESTINDIEN. Leave a comment

With the release the of the single  “Meldrøye”, taken from VESTINDIEN’s debut full-length album “Null” , Dark Essence Records have revealed another tantalising glimpse into what fans can expect to hear from a band whose initial brief foray into the music scene generated a considerable amount of interest thanks to their frenetic live shows, and enthusiastically received 2011 EP “We are the Lords of Hellfire”.

“Meldrøye”, about which VESTINDIEN say “Exploring and expanding one’s mind is crucial to help us understand that we are not placed above nature. We are nature”, can be streamed or downloaded from various services at https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Vestindien_Meldroye

Despite having garnered a substantial following for themselves, VESTINDIEN called it a day seven years ago, and, for reasons known only to themselves, had remained silent.  Until now, that is, with the band’s original lineup of Torjus Slettsnok on vocals, Simon Skøien on guitars, Karl Johan Johannessen on drums and Pål Eirik Veseth on bass, storming back, having replaced their classic 90’s hardcore sound, with its heavy metal twist, with one that embodies the essence of Black Metal, Punk and Old School rock’n’roll.

The result of this new direction is a more introverted and less aggressive approach to music, resulting in “Null”, an album which still subtly hints at VESTINDIEN’s hardcore roots, but  whose songs are dark, desperate and desolate, with some hard-hitting punches of energy and groove.

Set for release on Dark Essence Records on the 12th February 2021, tracklisting for “Null” is as follows:

1. Mot Dag
2. Berenberg
3. Meldrøye
4. Null
5. Ormegard
6. Ned
7. Øst for Sol

“Null” will appear in CD, DIgital and Black/Gold Vinyl formats, and can be pre-ordered from the following:

Webshop: https://darkessencerecords.no/shop/
Bandcamp: https://vestindien.bandcamp.com/album/null
US Webshop: https://darkessence.aisamerch.com/

Named after the last surviving brothel in Bergen (now a museum),  more information about VESTINDIEN can be found on the band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Vestindien/

WOLF KING are today premiering the second single, Wandering Soul, taken from their upcoming album, The Path of Wrath, via Invisible Oranges. Having announced their return in late 2020, the Bay Area quartet’s latest single solidifies WOLF KING’s stellar reputation as prime purveyors of blackened heavy metal. Accompanied with a dread inducing and horror-inspired black and white video from Chariot Of The Black Moth, Wandering Soul is available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp.

The Path of Wrath is due for release via Prosthetic Records on March 5.

WATCH THE MUSIC VIDEO FOR WANDERING SOULVIA INVISIBLE ORANGES.

Of the new single, the band comment, “Wandering Soul is a tale of passing from this existence, and how our souls will forever wander among the living. We seek the light to take us to our final resting place, but we can never grasp it.”.

Recorded at both Prairie Sun Recordings and Rapture Recordings in California by Cody Fuentes, with mixing and mastering handled by Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden, WOLF KING‘s blackened metal sound is captured at it’s most captivatingly unrestrained on The Path of Wrath. For an uncompromising, filth-drenched, smoke-infused take on the genre, The Path of Wrath delivers the goods and then some.

The Path of Wrath is available to pre-order here.

The Path of Wrath track list:
1. River of Light
2. Messenger of Death
3. Wandering Soul
