New Wave 80’s Artists THE CATHOLIC GIRLS To Release New Two-CD Retrospective Set

JSP RECORDS is pleased to announce the release of a new two-CD retrospective set, ROCK N’ ROLL SCHOOL FOR GIRLS, featuring one of the greatest and most enduring 1980’s all female New Wave rock bands, THE CATHOLIC GIRLS. This title will be released on Friday, November 20, 2020.

This exciting anthology covers recordings made from 1979 to 2017, including superb remixes of songs from their ground-breaking 1982 debut album “Catholic Girls.” It also presents 23 fully restored, previously  unreleased recordings comprised of demos, alternates and five great never-before-heard songs (including the title track), as well as a compilation of songs drawn from their subsequent albums. All 41 tracks are newly  remixed and remastered by acclaimed audio engineer John H. Haley of Harmony Restorations LLC assisted by Vincent J. Mazella.

The detailed 20-page booklet provides a history of THE CATHOLIC GIRLS, together with numerous photos from their extensive career. In the early 1980’s, they were among the first of the all female New Wave bands who were signed by major labels (in their case, MCA), which would include such girl groups as the Go-Go’s, Bananarama and the Bangles. In a rock music world defined by transience, THE CATHOLIC GIRLS have persisted, continuing to produce distinctive, original music.

Pre-order the release here: https://bourls.com/VNiet

All of their songs and lyrics are by lead singer GAIL PETERSEN, and none of the recordings heard in this set could possibly be mistaken for the work of any other group. For almost four decades, THE CATHOLIC GIRLS have broken all the rules and rocked the house, with sheer power, iron-willed longevity, tenacity and unforgettable music.

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of Belarusian black metal band KHANDRA, which features ESSENCE OF DATUM guitarist Dmitry R. The band will release their new record in 2021 via Season of Mist Underground Activists.

KHANDRA commented: “The soil was fertilized with bones. It lifelessly has spawned ‘All Occupied by Sole Death,’ as shall be witnessed through the portals of Season of Mist.”

Check out the discography of KHANDRA on Bandcamp HERE.

“The only horrible thing in the world is ennui… That is the one sin for which there is no forgiveness.” – Oscar Wilde

“Khandra” [xɐnˈdra] is a term that describes the feeling of crippling listlessness or melancholy that takes one over when in a state of boredom. However, the band’s overarching concept challenges this notion of ennui, attempting to exceed the limits of the imagination, utilizing music as a vessel of expression that has no emotional or logical confines.

The band’s debut EP was released in October 2017 under the banner All is of no avail, which subsequently merged with its 2018 successor, There is no division outside existence. Now, the band is gearing up to release All occupied by sole Death via Season of Mist, making it their debut to the label!

WOLFHEART Reveal New Video For Blistering Track “Horizon On Fire”

At the beginning of April 2020 just as the world as we knew it began to change, Finnish heavy melodic death metal band WOLFHEART released their newest full-length crusher, Wolves Of Karelia, via Napalm Records. Today, the band has emerged from the darkness once again with a vibrant lyric video for their blisteringly heavy track “Horizon On Fire”, cut from the new album.

WOLFHEART frontman Tuomas Saukkonen says about the track and video:
“Of the entire album, ‘Horizon on Fire’ is the song that best underlines how outnumbered the Finnish army was with only 32 tanks against over 2500 Russian tanks, 114 aircrafts against Russian 3800 aircrafts and manpower almost three times the enemy during one of the coldest winters of those times. I was born in the Karelian region and my father’s family farm is only 7km from the border that was drawn after the war, so I also have a very strong personal connection to those historical events. So, lines like below were written purely to honor the sacrifice of the generation that fought the war.

In the shelter of the woods
Edges of lakes and fields ages have stood
Winters fury on our side
We can’t be defeated
We have to hold the line

This lyric video was done by our graphics guy, Nikos Stavridakis of  VisionBlack, who has done all of our album graphics for the previous three albums. We wanted to give him a bigger role and get him involved in our video production too so he could bring the album graphic work into life in video format, and underline the Finnish Winter War theme even more deeply.”

Watchthe vibrant lyric video for “Horizon On Fire” HERE:

Just as wildlife itself maintains harmony with a violent clash of beauty and unpredictability, Wolves Of Karelia explores the band’s previously coined genre of “winter metal” – smoothly bridging a traditional approach of extreme genres while maintaining atmospheric and acoustic elements.

The album’s lyrical and musical content is inspired by the Winter War waged between Russia and the band’s native country, Finland, which took place during the winter of November 1939-March 1940. Finland ultimately managed to stop the Russian troops from invading their country.  WOLFHEART mastermind and frontman Tuomas Saukkonen was inspired by the personal stories of local veterans, conveying the tales of what they experienced and survived from their perspectives. Somber, frostbitten and heroic, Wolves Of Karelia portrays these tales with stunning musical precision.

GILBY CLARKE’s New Single ‘Tightwad’ Out Now (Feat. Nikki Sixx, Stephen Perkins)

GILBY CLARKE has released a new single ‘Tightwad’ (feat. Nikki Sixx, Stephen Perkins), out now on Golden Robot Records.

Order Tightwad HERE

Tightwad is the latest single from Gilby Clarke, and the follow up to his recent singles The Gospel Truth and Rock n’ Roll Is Getting Louder. It was written around a guitar riff he wrote while trying out a new fuzz pedal. Lyrically, it was inspired by deceit, treachery and the creative extremes people will go through to get ahead. Tightwad features Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx on bass and Stephen Perkins (Janes Addiction) on Drums.

“This song was written around a guitar riff I discovered while trying out a new fuzz pedal. Lyrically I was inspired by deceit, treachery and the creative extremes people will go through to get ahead. I tried to get my message through with humor, but if it hits to close to home, maybe we all should take a closer look at ourselves & make improvements.

I was lucky to have some wonderful musician friends contribute to the recording of this track, Nikki Sixx & Stephen Perkins. Stephen, as always, came through with a beat that drives the song and Nikki found a cool bass groove that accentuates the feel I was looking for. I tried to get my message through with humor, but sometimes the truth hurts.”

– Gilby Clarke
