Mascot Records will release a ‘Christmas Rocks’ E.P. on 27th November 2020, launching today songs By P.O.D. (Christmas Lullaby) and Crobot (What Child Is This?).

Check out the lyric video for P.O.D.’s ‘Christmas Lullaby’ here:

You can listen to Crobot’s ‘What Child Is This?’ here:

The nights get darker, the weather gets a little crisper and twinkling lights adorn houses, trees, streets and shop windows. In the distance is the gentle jingle-jangle of bells echoing to the joyous smiles of children throughout the world and as yuletide is being toasted; hark, what is that sound we hear? Oh my, it’s P.O.D., 10 Years, Crobot, Ayreon, Otherwise, Black Stone Cherry and Dragged Under – or doth my ear deceive me?

Joyriding through stereos across the globe on 27th November, via your favourite streaming networks will be the unstoppable sound of Mascot Records’, ‘CHRISTMAS ROCKS’ E.P. But, as a little Apéritif we give you, today, songs by P.O.D. Christmas Lullaby and Crobot, What Child Is This?

P.O.D.’s beautifully poignant Christmas Lullaby is a gentle acoustic reminder of love and warmth. “Christmas Lullaby Inspires me, gives me hope during these uncertain times. It’s a positive, beautiful, Christmas vibration. Thought provoking and heart felt. It resonates from Southtown, San Diego, all the way to the North Pole,” says Marcos Curiel. This gives way to the sound of Las Vegas hard-rockers Otherwise, ripping through Chuck Berry‘s Run Rudolph Run and then into Knoxville‘s 10 Years, who create an epic and expansive version of Silent Night. Talking about the song they say; “Silent Night has always been one of our collective favorite Christmas songs. It’s a classic, and we didn’t want to stray too far from what is familiar to people, but we did try to put our own touch on it!”

Kentucky‘s favourite sons Black Stone Cherry channel their inner-Elvis Presley on their riotous Southern Rock take on Blue Christmas.  Seattle  punks Dragged Under show that you can do Christmas-catchy but heavy as they take on a different direction on This Holiday. Frontman Tony Cappocchi explains; “This Holiday is our answer to all the super happy Christmas songs that are forced on us year after year. They’re all so cheery, and bubble-gum, and the reality is that the holidays aren’t like that for everyone. A lot of people (especially this year) don’t think of the holidays as a great time. Whether they’ve lost someone, don’t have family or money, or just don’t like being around people pretending to like each other. I had skipped holidays for years while working my dead-end retail job, and I think it made me a little cold to the holidays. Especially when people come to the mall and only think about themselves while screaming at the retail worker because they didn’t have the right toy. We’ve lost the reason for the season.”

Only Crobot could turn a 19th-century hymn into a doomy Black Sabbath-esque colossus on What Child Is This? with the band saying; “With such a rippin’ roster of awesome bands, Mascot has brought us all together to help put you in the Christmas spirit! So put a bow on it and slide it under the tree! Santa, we won’t forget to leave some riffs next to your cookies. Merry Riffmas, Beardos!”

Ayreon embrace the full arsenal of festive song weaponry on ‘The Last Day Of War And The First Day Of Peace’; uplifting vocals, a beautifully infectious melody, bells and a Lennon-esque sentiment. Talking about the song Arjen Lucassen said; “I was asked to record a Christmas song, and my first thought was that it’s not really my thing. But as I thought about it, I suddenly remembered that 27 years ago in 1993, I already recorded a sort of Christmas track, but it was never used. I re-recorded the track, Lori adapted the lyrics, I made it a bit more ‘Christmassy’ and of course added the obligatory sleighbells. The coolest thing about this track is the party sounds you hear in the background. That was actually recorded in the meeting room of the record label by the whole Mascot staff! Hope you like it, ho ho ho!”

Like a mini-aural advent calendar, a little musical treat will be revealed every week on streaming services from the 29th October until 27th November, when you can gorge yourself on the whole packet.

Merry Riffmas ya filthy animal.

Supergroup SCOUR To Release “The Black” EP November 27th, ‘Doom’ Feat. Guest Appearances By Hate Eternal’s Erik Rutan And Actor Jason Momoa

SCOUR — the extreme metal supergroup featuring Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera, Down, En Minor, et al), John Jarvis (Agoraphobic Nosebleed), Derek Engemann (Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals), Mark Kloeppel (Misery Index), and Adam Jarvis (Pig Destroyer, Lock Up) – will release their long-anticipated The Black EP on Black Friday, November 27th.

Forged in 2015, SCOUR made its debut with the ferocious single “Dispatched.” The Grey EP, released via Anselmo’s Housecore label, dropped in 2016, followed by The Red EP in 2017. Faster and tighter than ever before, this year’s The Black EP serves as the final release of the EP trilogy and is inarguably the band’s most ferocious effort to date. Mixed and mastered by Ryan Vincent at Apollo Audio Alternative with vocals and drums engineered by Stephen “Big Fella” Berrigan (Down, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Eyehategod), The Black EP includes guest appearances from Erik Rutan of Hate Eternal, Pat O’Brien of Cannibal Corpse, and actor Jason Momoa (Dune, Game Of Thrones, Aquaman, et al).

“The latest SCOUR is the best SCOUR,” proclaims Anselmo. Adds Engemann, “This is our most fierce and ripping album to date. Completing the EP trilogy, The Black EP brings a more mature musical approach without comprising the utter relentless brutality. We’ve got a few special gems as well that I’m stoked for people to hear.”

In advance of the EP’s release, today the band is pleased to offer up opening crusher, “Doom,” for public feasting. The track includes guest vocals by Jason Momoa and a guest guitar solo by Erik Rutan.

View SCOUR’s “Doom” video, created by Paul McGuire of Obscenery Films, below.

SCOUR’s The Black EP will be released on CD, LP, cassette, and digital formats via Housecore Records (North America) and Nuclear Blast Records (internationally). Find preorder options at  http://nblast.de/Scour-Black

The Black EP:

  1. Doom
  2. Nail
  3. Propaganda
  4. Flames
  5. Microbes
  6. Subprime

The sound of SCOUR can best be described as a modern reimagining of what primarily became known as black metal mixed with elements of grindcore and bits of punk and thrash. Without getting too caught up in genre classification, the result is a brand of ominously-hued, punishing minimalism that pays proper homage the the originators, without the trappings of being a “throw-back,” reimagining the lineage from primitive punk darkness into modernity. This nuanced approach was, perhaps, made crystal clear with the 2019 release of their cover of Bathory’s “Massacre.”

In its short existence, the band has graced the stages of many of the major players in both the mainstream and metal-oriented music festival circuits including Roskilde, Hellfest, Tecate Metal Festival, Maryland Deathfest, and more. As the lineage of its membership suggests, SCOUR continues to be a proverbial force with which to be reckoned both on the stage and in the studio.

English metal legends CARCASS have released their massively anticipated, first collection of new music in 7 years, “Despicable,” today via Nuclear Blast. Along with the new EP, the band has debuted a new visualizer for ‘Slaughtered in Soho,’ which Decibel called “a marvel of heavy groove, uplifting melody and dissonant attack.”

Commenting on the song, founding vocalist/bassist Jeff Walker states:

“Here’s the final track from the offcuts of the new album recording session that we decided to make available as an EP in order to tide people over. David Castillo who recorded & mixed the album was surprised this never made the cut….we, the band, were NOT! Anyhow, grit your teeth and ‘enjoy’!”

The lords of death and grind’s new EP “Despicable” offers fans a taste of the brutality that awaits on the band’s heavily anticipated 7th studio album coming in 2021.

True metal originators, CARCASS have released several classic albums over the years and changed the trajectory of extreme metal with each consecutive release. Whether it was inventing gore-grind (“Reek of Putrefaction” & “Symphonies of Sickness”) or creating the template for melodic death metal (“Heartwork”), CARCASS has always made records by which bars were set and rules were broken. After a 10 year hiatus (1996-2006), the band mounted a comeback, resurrecting their blistering death-laden riffs and eventually released their 6th album, “Surgical Steel” (2013) and supported the record over the years with continuous touring, including Download, Hellfest, Deathfest, Decibel’s Metal & Beer Festival, tours with Testament, Slayer, Napalm Death, Obituary and Voivod to name a few.

Now, seven years after their last record the band returns to the extreme metal throne with a new EP, “Despicable,” out in Oct 2020, which serves as a precursor to their next full-length’s impending destruction.

“Despicable” Track Listing:

  1. The Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue
  2. The Long And Winding Bier Road
  3. Under The Scalpel Blade
  4. Slaughtered In Soho

New Zealand’s speed metal overlords STÄLKER are returning with yet another lesson in raw and in-your-face heavy metal, breathing the spirit and danger of the glorious 80s.

Following 2019’s globally acclaimed Powermad EP, the band’s impatiently awaited second full-length album, Black Majik Terror, will be released on October 30, 2020 via Napalm Records.

Today, the band releases a delight for every fan of aggressive 80s metal as well as any horror aficionado out there. The music video for their third single, “Holocene’s End”, is another monument of classic B-Movie extravaganza: drenched in occultism, dirt and a lot of gore. A masterpiece on its own.

Proving that they aren’t afraid to change the pace to set the right mood, “Holocene’s End”‘s intro shows STÄLKER nearing doom metal territory before plunging back into the speed metal we know them for. This eerie introduction immediately invokes an unsettling aura that is only heightened by Daif’s anguished vocal performance and maniacal laughter. As the track’s speed picks back up to match the rest of Black Majik Terror,  “Holocene’s End” offers one of STÄLKER’s most ambitious song structures to date, graced tastefully with an exceptional call and response solo from guitarist Chris and capped off with a classic horror fueled synth outro. “Holocene’s End” is without a doubt one of STÄLKER‘s most unique numbers.

You must be at least 18 years old to view this video!

Black Majik Terror will available in various formats/editions (see below) – pre-order your copy HERE.

THY ART IS MURDER Unveil Lyric Video For New Single “Killing Season”

Posted by tarjavirmakari on October 30, 2020

Another masterclass in the kind of extremity that’s elevated THY ART IS MURDER to one of Australia’s top-heavy exports, Today, the band unveils the lyric video for their new single, “Killing Season”. The song is rooted  in the band’s sonic origins with its classic bone-crunching death metal paired with a relentless ferocity that takes a wrecking ball to all in its path.

In keeping with the band’s tradition of shining a floodlight on socio-political trauma and history’s atrocities, the lyrics for “Killing Season” are inspired by the whitewashing of colonialism, and the song tackles the brutal reality of systemic racism in the western world head-on. Written on Thanksgiving 2019, “Killing Season” examines the genesis of the national holiday and its lesser-known bloody history that’s far from the sanitized version celebrated annually.

Guitarist Andy Marsh explains: “’Killing Season’ is a crushing old school sounding Thy Art track that we put together towards the end of 2019, to be used somewhere in 2020 for a release or tour promo. We wanted to release it now as a gift to our fans who have supported us throughout this year by continuing to listen to our music, buying merch, or simply sending us messages of support. It means the world to us! ‘Killing Season” touches on the darkness surrounding the origins of Thanksgiving, and while that subject is relevant at this time of year, we want you to think of the atrocities both past and present that deserve acknowledgment.”

Originally intended for another release, THY ART IS MURDER decided to release the track to say thank you to all the fans who have stood by them during the global pandemic and the chaos of 2020.

Human Target was produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Will Putney at Graphic Nature Audioin Belleville, NJ. The artwork was once again painted by Eliran Kantor (HATEBREED, TESTAMENT, ICED EARTH, SODOM).
