The Aggression Sessions is the follow-up to 2016’s The Depression Sessionsand follows the same 6-song mini album where each band offers an original single and a cover song.For this session, THY ART IS MURDER is covering Cannibal Corpse and FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY is covering At The Gates whereas MALEVOLENCEis handling a song by American singer Anastacia.
THY ART IS MURDER and FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY make the following joint statement: “Before we had even completed work on ‘The Depressions Sessions’ we knew a lifelong friendship had been forged between THY ART IS MURDER and FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY, and that we would have to do another variation of the project. ‘The Aggression Sessions’ concept was born almost immediately following the completion of the first iteration but has taken many years to finally find the time to record and release it amidst the chaotic touring and music release schedules of both bands. We wanted to take things back to some of our favorite inspirations for writing and performing heavy and aggressive music this time, encapsulating the tone of the EP title. We hope everyone enjoys!

FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY states, “‘Hellions’ was a fun look back at some of our more brutal and fast-paced roots more akin to our earlier material. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of Hellbound, the record which we all collectively feel really started things in motion for the band. It was a blast to channel the energy and excitement we had at that time back into our music in 2023. It’s only natural for bands to evolve and expand their sound over time, but we never forgot where we came from, so this one is for those who were here from day one!”

Another masterclass in the kind of extremity that’s elevated THY ART IS MURDER to one of Australia’s top-heavy exports, Today, the band unveils the lyric video for their new single, “Killing Season”. The song is rooted in the band’s sonic origins with its classic bone-crunching death metal paired with a relentless ferocity that takes a wrecking ball to all in its path.
In keeping with the band’s tradition of shining a floodlight on socio-political trauma and history’s atrocities, the lyrics for “Killing Season” are inspired by the whitewashing of colonialism, and the song tackles the brutal reality of systemic racism in the western world head-on. Written on Thanksgiving 2019, “Killing Season” examines the genesis of the national holiday and its lesser-known bloody history that’s far from the sanitized version celebrated annually.
Guitarist Andy Marsh explains: “’Killing Season’ is a crushing old school sounding Thy Art track that we put together towards the end of 2019, to be used somewhere in 2020 for a release or tour promo. We wanted to release it now as a gift to our fans who have supported us throughout this year by continuing to listen to our music, buying merch, or simply sending us messages of support. It means the world to us! ‘Killing Season” touches on the darkness surrounding the origins of Thanksgiving, and while that subject is relevant at this time of year, we want you to think of the atrocities both past and present that deserve acknowledgment.”
“Killing Season” is the first taste of new music from the masters of brutality since the release of their earth-scorching fifth record, Human Target. Jesse comments, “‘Eye for an Eye’ was the first song I heard from Human Target as it was the first one to be drafted in the writing process. I really liked the vibe of the track, it’s pretty moody with a good Thy Art kind of feel and was the most challenging song for me to record. Overall it’s a good example of how we’re trying to push ourselves instrumentally, while keeping the song writing at the forefront.
The hardest part to track was definitely the buildup to the last breakdown as the pattern is tricky to get the feel right. You can actually hear the floor tom distort because I was so pissed off during the tracking of that part. It’s also got the fastest double bass on the record, with 4 bar segments of 270bpm 16th notes in the verses.”

Guitarist Andy Marsh comments, “‘New Gods‘ is interwoven in theme with the song ‘Chemical Christ’, discussing the idea of mental health and modern inventions’ intervention with a natural state of consciousness. The idea that social media is one of the major driving forces of increasing levels of depression in the western world was fascinating to us, and we thought what better way to use the platform ironically to discuss these ideas than by using an aspect ratio designed specifically for it. We hope you watch the clip and then put your phone down, life is better through the eye of the beholder than the lens of an algorithm.”
