Johannesburg-based metallic hardcore act Lower Hollow return with the first single from their upcoming REDUX album, Threnody: Songs of Perseverance—a complete reimagining of their critically acclaimed 2024 release Threnody: Songs of Fortitude.
Known for their fast, aggressive, atmospheric and heartfelt sound, Lower Hollow have carved a name for themselves across South Africa’s heavy music scene since forming in 2022. With two full-length albums, relentless touring, and a reputation for pushing genre boundaries, the band has quickly become a force in modern hardcore.
Now, Lower Hollow takes a bold step forward by re-recording Threnody with the band’s new vocalist Kathryn Georgina, following a significant lineup change earlier this year. The album has also been fully re-mastered, giving fans a version of the songs that more closely mirrors the band’s current live intensity and sonic evolution.
“It was 8 months after Threnody: Songs Of Fortitude was released, when our vocalist left the band to focus more on recently becoming a father,” the band shares. “We were still touring and promoting the album’s release cycle and suddenly found ourselves in search of a new vocalist, finding our new voice in Kathryn Georgina. From being a male fronted band, to shifting over to female fronted, the sound changed significantly.
Believing in our sound, the songs and our vision, we decided to offer our audience a version of the recently released album that ultimately reflected the live sound we’d since adopted; and thus – Threnody: Songs Of Perseverance was realized. We’ve always been a band that served the songs, and our melodic songwriting process ultimately allowed for these songs to take a different shape, while still honouring the original sentiment.”
The first single Social Disease drops today via Mongrel Records, marking the beginning of this new chapter for Lower Hollow.
Lower Hollow’s music has always been rooted in themes of anger, rage, loss, and resilience—emotions that resonated powerfully on Threnody: Songs of Fortitude. With Songs of Perseverance, the band continues this journey, re-forging the album as both a testament to change and a declaration of survival.

Zee is:
A self-taught musician and songwriter. Singer, guitarist, bassist, keyboarding. Lead woman of LINX and the ex-Bass player of the Toronto based punk band The Anti-Queens. Her musical style knows no bounds. Her influences range from movie soundtracks, classic music, grunge, metal, and alternative rock, with each genre leaving its mark on her compositions. Her Middle Eastern background adds a unique depth to her work, blending cultural elements seamlessly with her diverse musical taste.
An actress, a filmmaker, a certified IATSE lightning tech and stage rigger, who has been featured and worked on productions such as Jack Ryan, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Scream VI, Seaside, La Recette du Bonheur etc. She also creates and directs Linx’s videos (Crystal Jellyfish, Dream Watcher, One Step, Dead)
A free spirit who enjoys traveling, challenges, working hard, and hates routine.
Fred is:
A trained Musician who graduated from Music College. A drummer, keyboardist, and programmer, he is a master at creating new sounds and sonic textures. He was part of the “Rock n Road Drummer” TV show 2008, and a touring live drummer for bands such as DOT and Projekt F. A creative force with great work ethics.

Anticipation has been building for the return of Mason Hill, the critically acclaimed Scottish rock act who burst onto the scene when their debut album ‘Against the Wall’ stormed into Top 20 in March 2021. Having been dormant since September 2023, the band are now primed and ready for their return, unveiling their new singer Tom Ward, and announcing a pair of shows for November in London and Glasgow.
Mason Hill guitarist and founder James Bird has fire in his eyes and conviction in his voice when he talks about the new chapter his band are about to embark on. He enthuses about the new fire brought into the band with Tom Ward coming in:
“A new voice. A new chapter. We’re not just back, we are coming back with a fresh sound. We welcome Tom to the fold. I’m so excited about the writing partnership we’ve developed and can’t wait to unleash all the things we’ve been working on.”
“It feels like a brand-new start,” he says. “We’ve taken all the things we’ve learned and done to this point and stepped them up. I can genuinely say that this isn’t just a better version of Mason Hill, it’s the best version.”

Four years after ‘Against the Wall’ made such an impact, Mason Hill is re-entering the fray with renewed intent, showcasing a freshly updated sound and presentation. Tom Ward states; “Joining Mason Hill has been transformational for me – 12 months of hard graft, anticipation and gearing up to tear up the stage. Together we’ve been creating an album which is raw, powerful and pure Mason Hill.”
This line up feels like a huge step forward for the Glasgow-based band, and with good reason. While the core of Mason Hill is the same as the band that made ‘Against The Wall’ – James plus guitarist Marc Montgomery, bassist Matt Ward and drummer Craig McFetridge – their new music marks the introduction of new singer Ward, whose versatile voice brings different dimensions to Mason Hill’s signature sound as he switches from emotive whisper to arena-rattling power in a heartbeat.
“We’re still Mason Hill, but in some ways, it feels like we’re a brand-new band,” says James of their new configuration. “With Tom in the line-up, we’ve got a new energy.”
“Coming into this band at this point has been a dream,” adds Tom. “We hit it off from the start, and we discovered we’ve brought new things out in each other as writers. The new songs we’ve written so far are just amazing.”
Mason Hill have been no strangers to adversity over their 10-year existence. They’ve endured false starts, botched record deals and a six-year gap between 2015’s eponymous debut EP and the release of ‘Against The Wall’. Even the latter landed during the height of the Covid pandemic, meaning the band weren’t initially able to tour in support of it. The departure of former singer Scott Taylor at the end of 2023 was just the latest obstacle they had to overcome. “There have been times over the years when we weren’t even sure we’d be able to keep on being a band,” says James. “Even just before Tom came in, we were so close to saying, ‘Well, we tried, but let’s call it a day.’ But there’s a stubbornness and determination and passion in us that has kept us going.”.
It was Gumtree, of all places, that proved to be their salvation after Tom, who has been singing in bands since he was 14, spotted an ad the band had placed there in the spring of 2024. He reached out, emails were exchanged, and the band and Tom began sending bits of music back and forth to see what it might sound like. “Obviously all I‘d heard to that point was the first album,” says Tom. “So I started writing choruses and verses to some of the new stuff they’d done, and I was thinking, ‘Yeah, this is exactly where I sit, this is what I love doing.’”
“The new music was obviously still Mason Hill, but we didn’t want it to be a copy of the first album,” says James. “When Tom put his voice to some of the demos we’d sent, that was when we knew this could work.”
“It feels like a turning point,” says Tom of this new chapter, of which he’s a key part. “We’re super-hungry for it.” “All the good stuff and the bad stuff, I’m glad it happened in a sense,” adds James. “Because without it we wouldn’t be in this place we’re in right now, talking about new songs, which I couldn’t be more excited about. We’re so ready to get back out there. This is who we are now. This is Mason Hill.“

After the successful release and reviews of their first single ‘What is it like to Lose?’, Falling into View are proud to release their second single ‘On with the Show‘, out now.
As with their first single ‘On With the Show’ has already received BBC Introducing airplay and is a crowd favourite at their live shows. Written and composed by singer Alyssa, she notes “this song is about being in a relationship, whether it be platonic or not, that is stuck in a vicious cycle, those times when you try and try to make the relationship work but in the end you have to embrace the change and see what life will be like if you break out of it.”
Once again recorded at Magic Garden Studios in the West Midlands and produced by multi-platinum and BMA award winner Gavin Monaghan, this song will appeal to lovers of Americana, Country and Pop. Receiving fantastic reviews across their early live shows, Falling into View blend the best of Country and Americana with an unashamed nod to Pop, delivering a sound that will resonate with fans of multiple artists and genres.
Singer Alyssa has previously made waves as a BBC Introducing featured artist. Allan, the band’s chief songwriter, carries the torch as its most seasoned musician, having also played alongside drummer Gordon in previous band The Idle Quiet. After that band’s chapter closed, Gordon suggested Alyssa take the microphone for a new project, bringing ex work colleague, and long-term friend, Rob on board to play bass. Lead guitarist and former bandmate of Rob, Bernie joined soon after, completing a lineup that came together as if it were meant to be, with everything “Falling into View” nicely!
With a rich mix of influences and an undeniable chemistry and an ability to not take itself too seriously, Falling into View is ready to make its mark—one song at a time.

Vocalist SU-METAL reflects: “We were invited to take part in a 20th-anniversary collaboration project featuring guest artists on past songs. Five Finger Death Punch and BABYMETAL had performed at the same festival overseas back in 2015, so I was really happy thinking they might have remembered me from then. I sang Japanese lyrics inspired by and based on the original lyrics of “The End,” and spent a lot of time experimenting to figure out what kind of voice would best suit such a deep, cool track. My favorite part of the song is the flow from the section starting with “Negai o kakete” right after the chorus into the break — I loved how my voice gradually got covered and engulfed by Ivan’s growl, which gave me chills. I hope listeners will enjoy that moment as well.”
