“Dreadlands” explores the contrast between two spiritual worlds: the harmony-centered pagan traditions and the legacy of Abrahamic religions, which often channel humanity’s most violent instincts. While pagan rites served to express and contain primal forces, maintaining balance between humankind and nature, monotheistic dogmas have frequently justified war and destruction in the name of faith. This work stands as a tribute to life, to the sacred bond between people and the natural world—a bond shattered by centuries of religious conflict.

A powerful fusion of black metal and crust punk, the album is steeped in ritualistic intensity and ferocity, encouraging deep reflection on what has been lost in the struggle between spirituality and imposed doctrine.

Swiss doom/sludge outfit Zatokrev have unveiled their new single ‘Unwinding Spirits’ which features guest vocals from Manuel Gagneux of Zeal&Ardor. This is the second single from their immense and immersive upcoming new album, Bring Mirrors To The Surface, which will be released 29th August via Pelagic Records.

Pre-order the album here: https://orcd.co/zatokrev

The band comment on the new album:  “Our new album, completed in 2022, reflects a time of profound change and resilience. It’s a testament to how challenges were overcome and new beginnings were embraced, both personally and creatively. The fact that the new album is only released three years later is due in no small part to the overcoming of serious life challenges and profound changes. The new album is the follow-up to the previous album, Silk Spiders Underwater, where the story began. Now, Bring Mirrors To The Surface tells the story to its conclusion.”

Bring Mirrors To The Surface also features vocal contributions from Schammasch, Inezona, Minsk, and Bölzer.

After all the detritus of pain, time, and letting go has been slogged through, 2025 sees Zatokrev return with an immense and immersive new (double LP) album: Bring Mirrors To The Surface obliterates the past and conjures a future previously unimagined, pleading with humanity to remember the power of the will and the imagination.

An album in which to truly lose oneself, these songs provide a candle in the dark, an arcane map, providing directions to the tearing down, and the painful realizing, as a means to metaphysical freedom. A beauty unmatched in any previous Zatokrev material has become entrenched in every aspect of this record. Moments of comfort fow freely into the deafening sounds: Bring Mirrors To The Surface encourages one and all to stare into the abyss of the self. Zatokrev have given us a musical grimoire. Sounds heard through the ages have congregated in a unique moment in time.

“Changes, recognize, release. A black fame splitting the ground in two, opens the gate to where we lose ourselves”

Spanish black metal band GJALLARHORN’S WRATH have just inked a deal with Dutch label Non Serviam Records.

Founded in Barcelona in 2023 by members of the black metal band OBLIVION, they draw inspiration from the classic and modern black metal and death metal scene.

GJALLARHORN’S WRATH is a black metal band rooted in the old-school sound, cold, aggressive, and atmospheric. Harsh, modern vocals inspired by death metal bring a heavier edge, creating a brutal mix of tradition and power.

The band comments: “We are proud to announce our signing with Non Serviam Records. This marks an important step in our journey, and with their support, we’re ready to bring forth new music and creations forged in fire and vision. This album, along with both video clips, represents a defining chapter for us. It’s a project we’ve carried with passion and conviction. Shaped by our vision, struggles, and devotion to the art, and we can’t wait for you to experience what we’ve created. Stay tuned, this is only the beginning”.

Non Serviam Records’ owner Ricardo Gelok enthuses: “I was genuinely taken aback by how mature and fully realized this band sounded on their debut. There was a rare conviction in their sound, a bleak grandeur that spoke of vision beyond their years. I had no choice but to bring them onto the label. From the first moment, they set the bar impossibly high, and somehow, they carry that weight effortlessly across the entire record. This is not just promise it’s presence”.

GJALLARHORN’S WRATH will release their haunting album “The Silver Key” later this year.

GJALLARHORN’S WRATH are:
Alex Caron – Vocals
Arash – Rhythm and Lead Guitars
Lord Ashler – Bass
Javi Iron – Drums and Keyboard

Pioneering Indigenous Rockers BLACKFIRE to Release New Single ‘Small Talk’ on July 11th

Posted by tarjavirmakari on July 2, 2025
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: BLACKFIRE. Leave a comment

Fresh off a powerful return in 2025, legendary Indigenous rock band Blackfire are back with a no-holds-barred new single, ‘Small Talk’, releasing July 11 via Golden Robot Records. The track is now available to pre-save, and marks another standout moment from their upcoming album ‘Solar Eclipse’.

‘Small Talk’ is classic Blackfire – fierce, unapologetic, and driven by purpose. Beneath the gritty guitars and punchy chorus lies a deeper message: the frustration of being ignored, dismissed, or pacified with meaningless chatter. Whether it’s in a personal interaction or a political promise, small talk is what happens when real issues get deflected and truth is avoided. “It’s a song about people not listening – about making up conversations that mean nothing, and avoiding the ones that reveal uncomfortable truths.” the band explains. “For decades, governments have made empty promises to Indigenous communities, and the status quo remains unchanged.”

With its defiant energy, ‘Small Talk’ reinforces Blackfire’s long-standing role as musical truth-tellers. It’s a track that bristles with frustration and strength – not just for the sake of protest, but as a demand for real action. As the saying goes: actions speak louder than words.

With Solar Eclipse on the horizon, and singles like ‘Let’s Not Forget’, ‘Big Billions’, and now ‘Small Talk’, Blackfire are once again giving voice to stories, truths, and resistance – all wrapped in blistering rock and soul. ‘Small Talk’ drops July 11 on all major platforms via Golden Robot Records.

Pre-save ‘Small Talk’ HERE

Formed in Melbourne in 1992, Blackfire toured nationally and internationally for over a decade, becoming a powerful voice in both music and Indigenous cultural expression. After a break starting in 1999, the band began reuniting for select shows from 2018 onward. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, original members Selwyn Burns, Grant Hansen, and Brad Brown rekindled the fire – and with it came a revitalized lineup.

Joining the original trio are Radical Son (David Leha) on lead vocals, Peter Moore on drums, Rod Crundwell on keys, and additional members Monica McDonald and Leonie Whyman on backing vocals and percussion. Daniel Jauregui adds power on second lead guitar, giving the group an even fuller, more dynamic sound.

CALL OF CHARON to Release New Studio Album “Tales of Tragedy” on August 1st

After joining forces with Mystic Production, Massacre Records has finally revealed its forthcoming release schedule (find it here), starting with the long-awaited, new studio album by Germany-based death metal powerhouse Call of Charon!

Tales of Tragedy is slated for a release on August 1, 2025, pre-order options will be available soon.

A lyric video for the band’s first single, “The Demon King” featuring Damien Moyal (As Friends Rust), is now premiering below. Call of Charon reveal:

” The Demon King marks the first single from our upcoming album and serves as a fierce reminder of the band’s roots. A straightforward, hard-hitting track, that stands out with crushing riffs and a relentlessly brutal chorus.

Lyrically, the song introduces the “Demon King” as the embodiment of life’s darkest threats. Fueled by the full spectrum of negative emotions, it’s time to confront and eliminate this menace once and for all.”

Tales of Tragedy was written during dark times. After the global pandemic subsided, each band member was forced to confront personal struggles — from the loss of loved ones and broken relationships to health issues and uncertain jobs. Meanwhile, the world itself grew visibly colder and more bitter. These experiences shaped deeply serious and emotionally charged lyrics, leaving little room for feel-good moments or happy endings.

Musically, the album picks up where the band’s 2022 EP, The Sound Of Silence, left off. While signature breakdowns remain a staple, Tales of Tragedy introduces a heavier dose of death metal, alongside new elements like black metal-inspired tremolo riffs and more melodic arrangements. The result is a darker, more dynamic evolution of the band’s sound.

With mixing and mastering handled by Stephan Hawkes — known for his work with bands like Attila and Chelsea Grin — the album not only features guest appearances by Dane Evans (To The Grave), Hagen Petschat (Ruins of Perception) and Damien Moyal (As Friends Rust), but also marks the most refined and powerful production Call of Charon has ever had. Tales of Tragedy is set to push the band to the next level — and it’s just the beginning!

egendary drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, The Winery Dogs) joins forces once again with emerging rock band Last Second Chance to unleash a powerful reinterpretation of “Roxanne” by The Police – recorded at none other than Studio 606, home of the Foo Fighters and their iconic Sound City Neve 8028 analog console.

This bold take on the classic track merges Portnoy’s explosive rhythmic style with the band’s rock sensibility, creating a raw and urgent rendition that honors the original while forging something unmistakably fresh. The release is accompanied by a music video shot entirely at Studio 606, capturing the rare energy of all musicians performing live together in one of the most iconic rock studios in the world.

Now available on all major streaming platforms, “Roxanne” is the second release from the band’s debut EP, “Past Forward – Part 1,” a collection of long-shelved songs now fully realized – with Part 2 already in the works.
