Huntington Beach G-punk pioneers (Hed) P.E. have already released a few singles from their upcoming New and Improved covers collection, including brand new recordings of their own classics “Bartender” and “Raise Hell.” So we’ve already had the chance to find out if we agree with the record’s title. (The answer, unanimously, is yes!)

This one, however, is the most arresting yet, as the band completely, and brilliantly, up-end one of The Police’s biggest (if creepily stalker-ish) hits, not only as their latest single, but also as the opening track to the album itself. And once you dive into that, you may never want to resurface.

Whether you lived through the decade or not, we all know what the eighties sounded like – an ineffable potpourri of synthipop, stadium rock, a ska revival and power balladeering, indelibly tattooed upon our brain pans for ever.

But they didn’t sound like this. From AC/DC to Depeche Mode, from UB40 to Cyndi Lauper, and let’s not forget A Flock of Seagulls and Modern English, Jahred Gomes and co pay the hits of the era the greatest tribute imaginable… by taking them back to the drawing board and recasting them in unmistakable, colossal (Hed) PE style.

PUNGENT STENCH to Re-Issue “Mucous Secretion” on June 20th, Incl. Exclusive Unreleased Material

Pungent Stench‘s legendary 1988 demo Mucous Secretion becomes available once again on 20th June via Hammerheart Records. This raw snapshot of Vienna’s extreme metal scene captures Pungent Stench in their earliest, most primal form, including a previously unreleased track ‘Melted Corpse’.

Recorded in a single session with nothing but a ghetto blaster, this demo represents the purest form of old-school death metal. The recording preserves the band’s original rehearsal space performance with zero overdubs or studio enhancements, offering listeners an authentic time capsule of extreme metal’s formative years.

The demo includes the never-before-heard rehearsal track ‘Melted Corpse’, making this release essential for both collectors and death metal historians alike.

THE HAUNTED Launch Official Music Video for New Song ‘In Fire Reborn’

Swedish thrash pioneers and purveyors THE HAUNTED continue to scorch the earth with their upcoming tenth studio album, ‘Songs of Last Resort,’ to be released worldwide on May 30, 2025 via longtime partners Century Media Records. The band is now unleashing the blistering new single, “In Fire Reborn,” along with a music video, which was directed by Patric Ullaeus / (In Flames, Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir, etc.). THE HAUNTED vocalist Marco Aro comments about the track, “This is the second single off the album ‘Songs of Last Resort.’ The song is called ‘In Fire Reborn’ and it’s a more classic THE HAUNTED sounding song with the aggression turned up to 11…just in case you missed the memo on our previous single!”

Guitarist Jensen adds, “A classic THE HAUNTED 6/8 beat song. I wrote the start, verses and ending of the song, but it wasn’t until Jonas wrote the chorus when ‘In Fire Reborn’ really bloomed out. I believe this could also easily become a fan favorite, just like it has become one of the band’s favorite songs on the album. The lyrics are, just like with ‘Warhead,” also along the topic of war, but this time from a soldier’s perspective.”

With music recorded by Oscar Nilsson at Studio Bohus, main vocals recorded by Björn Strid at The Cellar Studio, ‘Songs of Last Resort’ was then mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Kreator, Arch Enemy, Sepultura, etc). Artwork was once again provided by longtime visual collaborator Andreas “Diaz” Pettersson. Pre-orders are now live HERE.

A noble man, betrayed and cursed, is cast into the depths of the underworld. In the fiery pits of hell, he discovers a newfound power, reborn with the spirit of the dragon. MEZZROW Release Cover Version of GHOST Classic ‘Ritual’

Perfect in time before Walpurghis Night, when rituals will take place, the Swedish thrash metal force MEZZROW returns with a unique cover version of the GHOST classic “Ritual”!

While the song coincidentally drops at the same time as the release of GHOST’s new album, MEZZROW frontman Uffe Pettersson reveals: ”It’s always special when it comes to cover versions. It would be a natural thing for us to do a cover of a Vio-lence tune or perhaps something from Forbidden’s old catalogue. But too predictable! So we set our sights on something Swedish and more unusual. ”Ritual” is an old Ghost-classic and kind of a cult song from their first album. From our point of view it was a perfect song to turn into a thrashy track and it’s quite catchy with a strong chorus. You can also detect a resemblance in the lyrics for all of us who are fans of the Omen movies. Enjoy!”

MEZZROW built themselves a name in the thrash metal scene during the late eighties with their critically acclaimed demo tapes, “Frozen Soul” and “Cross of Tormention”. In 1990, they released their classic debut album “Then Came the Killing” through Active Records (Candlemass a.o.), a subsidiary of Music for Nations. The album is still today considered as one of the best, if not the best, thrash metal releases from Sweden and Scandinavia.

During 2021 MEZZROW rose from the ashes, when bass player Conny Welén (ex-Hexenhaus) and singer Uffe Pettersson (ex-Rosicrucian) decided to make a new mark in the thrash metal world of today, together with new guitarists Magnus Söderman (Nightrage) and Ronnie Björnström (ex-Defiatory, ex-Aeon), as well as drummer Alvaro “Alvis” Svanerö (Imperial Domain). Following their comeback album “Summon Thy Demons” (2023, Fireflash Records) and the much-acclaimed ”Keep It True – Live” record, MEZZROW are currently busy writing new material for a next album to be released in the hopefully not so distant future through ROAR. Twelve new songs are now ready for recording and this process has slightly begun.
