The first shots of Messiah Paratroops were fired in 1989. Aku and Niku joined the already existing band Necrophiliac. However, we found out that there was a band with the same name in Brazil, so a name change was necessary. The official launch of Messiah Paratroops was carried out by Aku Oksala (vocals), Niku Oksala (bass), Pekka Laasanen
(drums), Janne Roima (guitar), and Mikko Vainikainen (guitar). At the time, our music was mostly thrash metal. In 1990, Mikko was replaced by Sami Jämsen on guitar, and in the same year, the first official demo Extreme Pain was released. Before this, we had recorded Rheumatoid (1989), Children of the Corn (1990), and the song Other Side in Studio Sound.

Our first official gig was at Nuorisokeskus 44 in Kuopio in 1990, and after that, more gigs started coming in. One particularly memorable gig was in Sulkava, where we played with Nuxvomica, Astenia, and Alennusmyynti. The gig was unforgettable in many ways, even so that one of our guitarists wasn’t allowed to play because of intoxication. Nevertheless, we managed to finish the show successfully.

The Extreme Pain demo sold well. With more experience gained from gigs and  rehearsing in the trenches, we recorded the Lost Soul Domain demo in 1991. It sold out quickly and was well received worldwide. This led to the release of The Past EP through Seraphic Decay Records. Some copies of this rare release can still be found in various parts of the world.

Soon after, Pekka Laasanen left the band after a gig at Desperado Bar, and was replaced by Ilari Jäntti (Barathrum) on drums. In 1992, with this new lineup, we recorded The Other Gods demo. We also performed at Neulamäki Rock and the recycling center alongside Impaled Nazarene, Barathrum, and Mystification. After a few years of performing and creating new material, we recorded the Jesus Christ Cyberseed demo in 1994. This demo deviated slightly from our traditional death metal style, with lyrics focusing more on technology and sci-fi themes. After this, our war machines
went silent for nearly two decades…

In 2014, it was time to bring out the war arsenal again and start re-recording our old songs with the following lineup:
• Sami Jämsen (guitar)
• Janne Roima (guitar)
• Tuomo Latvala (drums)
• Niku Oksala (bass)
• Aku Oksala (vocals)

We recorded The Breeding, Cyberseed, Lost Soul Domain, and To Be Left High and Dry, but these re-recorded versions were never released. This lineup performed two gigs: the first at Old Farts Rock in Henry’s Pub, Kuopio (2014) and the second at Finnish Death Metal Maniacs Festival in Pori (2017).

War takes its toll, and in 2017, the lineup changed once again. Sami, Janne, and Tuomo left the group, and we brought in:
• Ville Vesterinen (guitar)
• Antti Sinikangas (guitar)
• Peachy (drums)

With Ville’s creative input, three new songs were written:
• Evil Lives Among Us
• Madness Incarnate
• Murders of the Lake

Demo versions of these songs were recorded. This lineup managed to play a few gigs before more changes occurred. Ville left the group, and Jani Vartiainen took over on guitar. More new songs started emerging with the debut album in mind. We even managed to get to the studio to record, but the momentum began to fade…

Once again, it was time to open the tent flap and bring in new soldiers.
• Pete Airaksinen joined on guitar.
• Vilho Kananen joined on drums.
• Jari Bäck took over as the main bassist alongside Niku Oksala.

With this lineup, new songs were written, and after years of effort, the recording of our debut album was finally completed at the end of 2023.

Our debut album “Legions of Tomorrow” is released on April 4th 2025 via Inverse Records.

Line-up:
Vocals – Aku Oksala
Guitars – Pete Airaksinen
Guitars – Jani Vartiainen
Drums – Vilho Kananen
Bass – Jari Bäck

NECROTTED Release New Single And Video ‘Deus Ex’

Swabian death metal heroes Necrotted are back and are launching new music into the world. With ‘Deus Ex’, Necrotted release a single that contains everything their fans expect from them and that defines them as a band; heavy blast beat attacks, shredding yet melodic guitar riffs, breakdowns that go straight to the core and inhuman vocals. On the latter, vocalist Fabian is supported by Sven from Aborted  and  Coffin Feeder – a feature that fits like a glove.

Stream ‘Deus Ex’ here: https://necrotted.bfan.link/deus-ex

The band comment on the track: “We’re overjoyed that one and a half years after the release of our last album ‘Imperium’ we can finally release new music into the world. With ‘Deus Ex’ we’re releasing a single that contains everything our fans can expect from us and that defines us as a band: heavy blast beat attacks, shredding yet melodic guitar riffs, breakdowns that go straight to the core and inhuman vocals. The fact that Fabian is supported by our buddy Sven is a special pleasure and honor for us. Especially since Aborted is a band that has always inspired and influenced us.“

Thematically, ‘Deus Ex’ deals with the deification of humanity and its sins by humans themselves as well as the resulting negative effects on the world. The band remains true to itself and, as usual, takes a political and socially critical stance.

Necrotted have recently announced brand new EU/UK tour dates for April and May this year, together with Cytotoxin, Gutalax (on selected dates), Acranius and Osiah. A full list of confirmed shows can be found below.

EU dates:
10/04/25 Berlin, DE
11/04/25 Magdeburg, DE
12/04/25 Chemnitz, DE
13/04/25 Hamburg, DE
14/04/25 Hannover, DE
15/04/25 Essen, DE
16/04/25 Chaleroi, BE
17/04/25 Paris, FR
18/04/25 Strasbourg, FR
19/04/25 Aalen, DE
20/04/25 Lindau, DE
21/04/25 Weinheim, DE

Melodies that stay in the ear, with at the same time merciless speed and brutality and always a clear political message – this is what the modern death metal band Necrotted from Southern Germany stands for now more than 15 years.

Founded back in 2008, the band from Abtsgmünd (Baden-Wuerttemberg) has since grown to become a notable force in the scene, constantly thrilling their growing fan base and the music press with both their musical releases and their energetic live shows. In the time of their existence, Necrotted have already released four albums with Anchors Apart (2012), Utopia 2.0 (2014), Worldwide Warfare (2017) and Operation: Mental Castration (2021) and two EPs with Kingdom Of Hades (2010) and Die For Something Worthwhile (2019). In addition, the quintet has played hundreds of live concerts over the years on smaller and bigger stages in various countries.

Their latest album Imperium marks another milestone in the band’s history. The LP is once again designed as a concept album and consistently develops the elaborate storyline of its predecessor in a substantial as well as in a visual way. Also, Necrotted continue to tread experimental parts in a musical way. Their proven recipe of melodic guitar riffs, thundering blast beats and oppressive slams is joined by more and more black metal elements. In the lyrics, which are basically written in English, there are also more and more text passages in the German native language, which are performed as usual in banefully deep growls and strident screams. ‘Imperium’ was released in September 2023 via the label Reaper Entertainment and left a resounding echo in the field of contemporary, diversified death metal.

Necrotted are:
Fabian Fink – Vocals
Markus Braun – Drums
Philipp Fink – Guitars
Koray Saglam – Bass
Johannes Wolf – Guitars

OBSIDIAN TONGUE Announce Co-Headlining U.S. Tour with WOE

Progressive black metal duo OBSIDIAN TONGUE are now announcing FRAILTY & SCORN, eight performances of black metal intensity this June alongside WOE. The trek will kick off on June 6 in Long Island City, NY and will make its way throughout the East Coast until the final stop on June 13 in Providence, RI. The tour will not only celebrate the release of OBSIDIAN TONGUE‘s forthcoming opus, ‘Eclipsing Worlds of Scorn,’ due on May 30, 2025 via Profound Lore Records, but also will bring both bands back to many cities they have not visited in nearly a decade. Show pre-orders will begin soon as well as local support announcements. The full itinerary can be found below!

To celebrate the recent announcement of their fourth studio album, OBSIDIAN TONGUE has recently unveiled the devastating new single, “Orphaned Spiritual Warrior,” which can be heard at THIS LOCATION.

Comprised of multi-instrumentalist Brendan Hayter (Thrawsunblat/Obsequiae live) and drummer Raymond Capizzo (Falls Of Rauros/Panopticon live), OBSIDIAN TONGUE returned to the all-analog Mystic Valley Studio, where their first two records were made, to print their Covid-era home sessions onto two-inch tape. Mixed and mastered in the analog domain as well by Alex Garcia-Rivera, ‘Eclipsing Worlds of Scorn’ boasts a unique and unmistakable sonic force amidst the modern digital landscape; created with a total absence of click tracks, quantization, or sound replacement of any kind.

Hayter previously commented on the single, “The first track we arranged for ‘Eclipsing Worlds of Scorn’ practically named itself – ‘Orphaned Spiritual Warrior.’ It was clearly an album opener, as complex and chaotic as it is.

“It felt like being dropped into a new world you knew you didn’t belong in – and everyone and everything around you knows it too. You vaguely remember that you came from somewhere else, that you had a dignified purpose there, and that there were people way beyond this place that understood you…but the worst part is you don’t know if they’re looking for you, if they’re trying to get you back. All you know is a sense of abandon and mortal danger…every step is heavy with some sort of impostor syndrome and every movement feels uncoordinated, jagged, and bound for disaster. You once could fight, but in this place it feels like trying to fight off an attacker in a dream and you can’t make contact or move your arm fast enough no matter how hard you try. All there’s left to do is find some sort of shelter, try to find your center, try to unlock the memories, and fight off the strife. ‘Set ablaze this world to pass onto the next.'”

OBSIDIAN TONGUE Tour Dates (Co-headlining w/ WOE):

06/06: Long Island City, NY @ El Bunker del Diablo
06/07: Milton, DE @ Brimming Horn Meadery // Party Like It’s 793 Fest
06/08: Baltimore, MD @ The Depot
06/09: Richmond, VA @ Cobra Cabana
06/10: Raleigh, NC @ The Pour House
06/11: Philadelphia, PA @ Kung Fu Necktie
06/12: Syracuse, NY @ The Jugg on Teal
06/13: Providence, RI @ Fete Music Hall

‘Eclipsing Worlds of Scorn’ can now be pre-ordered HERE.

Tracklisting:

01 – Orphaned Spiritual Warrior
02 – Snakeskin Tunnel Colony
03 – Eclipsing Worlds of Scorn [LISTEN]
04 – To Forgive Oneself
05 – …And Still They Dream…
06 – Theater of Smoke & Wind

Lauded as USBM’s best kept secret, Obsidian Tongue has been on a steadfast artistic journey since their formation in 2009. They’ve never failed to retain the original mission of playing raw and cathartic melodic black metal as they journeyed further into psychedelic and progressive territories with each release following 2012’s self-released debut ‘Subradiant Architecture.’ While their debut won a passionate following for its perfect union of the grimy and the epic sides of black metal, it was 2013’s ‘A Nest of Ravens in the Throat of Time’ (Hypnotic Dirge Records) and its psychedelic dark metal that established their name more into the scene and showcased their ambitious nature even more.

2015’s 15-minute single ‘The Lakeside Redemption,’ with its progressive, haunting, dreamlike and triumphant elements, set the groundwork for their third full length, which took several years of tireless effort to complete. Released in Jan of 2020, ‘Volume III’ (Bindrune Recordings) was clearly the band’s magnum opus but all plans to support the album on the road became thwarted due to the pandemic. So all there was left to do was write even more music. This gradually led to a creation of not one, but three works: the first being 2024’s much-delayed self-released digital EP ‘The Stone Heart’ and the second being their fourth full-length album ‘Eclipsing Worlds of Scorn’ to be released via Profound Lore Records on May 30, 2025.

In the summer of 2024, Obsidian Tongue, comprised of vocalist/guitarist/bassist Brendan Hayter (Thrawsunblat/Obsequiae live) and drummer Raymond Capizzo (Falls Of Rauros/Panopticon live) returned to the all-analog Mystic Valley Studio, where their first two records were made, to print their Covid-era home sessions onto two-inch tape.

The progressive black metal journey that is ‘Eclipsing Worlds of Scorn’ takes off immediately with the wrathful sounds of “Orphaned Spiritual Warrior” and “Snakeskin Tunnel Colony,” easily the band’s two heaviest tracks to date. These flow directly into the apocalyptic title track, and onto the vulnerable and surreal sounds of “To Forgive Oneself” leading into the acoustic instrumental “…And Still They Dream.” This dream ends with the triumphant “Theater of Smoke & Wind,” a true psychedelic black metal classic that still evokes some of the original feeling found on the band’s ‘Subradiant Architecture’ debut.

Sixteen years into the band’s existence, Obsidian Tongue clearly show no signs of running out of new ways to alter their sound – song by song, album by album.

Lineup:
Brendan Hayter – Guitar, Vocals, Bass, Synth
Raymond Capizzo – Drums

Recorded @ Mystic Valley Studio
Mixed & Mastered by Alex Garcia-Rivera
