The Advent calendar for the Wacken Open Air 2014 comes to an end, today is the last chance to get one of the daily prizes at our raffle. And you should also have all 24 letters for the solution by now to win one of our main prizes.

For today’s Christmas Eve, we have prepared a huge punch: Megadeth – the mighty thrash titans from the USA! This is the last band of our calendar, but of course we will continue to announce bands for W:O:A 2014 soon – so stay tuned!

Another huge Wacken premiere for the Anniversary! Thrash legend and Big Four member Megadeth will come to the holy land for the very first time. A real metalhead surely doesn’t need a instruction what Dave Mustaine’s band is about. After he left Metallica he released “Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good!” in 1985 – and the rest is history.

Wacken Open Air Advent Calendar, Door 23: CARCASS Return To W:O:A

Christmas is just around the corner and W:O:A’s calendar ends soon.  Today’s announcement is especially for the fans of martial music!

CARCASS
For the second time ever, Carcass are coming to smash the W:O:A. The band started their extreme metal crusade at the end of the eighties but then split up in 1995. Since 2007, the band is reunited but the first album after the split up wasn’t released until this year. The new album is the sixth of the band and it’s called Surgical Steel. The band satisfied the expectations of the numerous fans which means they have successfully started their new death metal offensive!

Hellyeah
The end of Pantera left a void in the scene which isn’t easy to fill again. But groove metal and groove bands are returning! One of the bands is Hellyeah and you could easily call this one a supergroup and the heirs at once. The driving force behind them is Vinnie Paul, the former Pantera and Damageplan drummer.
Also on board: Chad Gray, Tom Maxwell, Greg Tribbett and Bob Zilla and together they have already released three albums. The last one was in 2012, called Band of Brothers and now they are again working on new stuff. And they are also preparing everything for their Wacken debut for sure!

WASP

W.A.S.P.
W.A.S.P. are a US-American metal band. Founded in 1982 the band behind mastermind Blackie Lawless has toured around the whole world over the last 30 years. They were often compared with big genre bands like Alice Cooper or Kiss by the press and already released 14 albums. In 2014 they will play for the third time in Wacken.

Behind door no. 19 we can present you another Wacken debutatn – Five Finger Death Punch!

The US American groove metal export Five Finger Death Punch was founded in 2005 and they sureley reached the top since then. Already the second album became a golden record in the USA and this year they have released their fourth Album, called The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell.
By the way, it can be dangerous to take the band as a support act. They use to smash the tour headliner with their performances!

Nightmare
The French metal band Nightmare was founded in 1979 and called the attention of the labels during a support show for Def Leppard. In 1988, the band splitted up. But they successfully reunited in 1999 and now they will rock Wacken for the fourth time!

Shanty rock from Germany: Santiano are still breaking records and after the celebrated shows at W:O:A 2012 and 2013, they will return for 2014 again!

It becomes progressive in the calendar!

I.C.S. Vortex
Truly no unknown metal musician is the Norwegian Simen Hestnæs aka I.C.S. Vortex. Best known for his memberships at Borknagar, Arcturus and Dimmu Borgir, he has started a successful solo project some time ago.

His first solo album Storm Seeker was released in 2011 and can be best described as progressive metal. But in fact you can find elements from all of his creative periods on the album.
