The Norwegian evening is one of the specials, that were launched successfully in 2014 (Poland) and 2015 (Finland). Having celebrated TAAKE’s 20th Anniversary last year with the release of “Gravkamre, Kroner og Troner”, a 20-song, 2 CD collection of rarities, the contribution that frontman and founder Hoest has made to the Black Metal scene, both in terms of recording and performing, is immeasurable. Time has not stood still for a band that is not afraid to take risks, but which has always remained true to its roots. Whilst many new Black Metal bands have steadfastly refused to move away from the generic formula that frequently risks sinking the whole genre into a sea of platitudes and unoriginality, TAAKE has shown that Black Metal is still very much alive, fresh, original and thriving.
According to Patricia Thomas Management, DARK ESSENCE RECORDS will field three of its bands for a ten-date European tour in May. Along for what promises to be an epic programme of Extreme music are iconic Black Metallers TAAKE, veteran Dark Metallers AETERNUS and SLEGEST, the new project from former VREID guitarist Ese.

Formed in 1993, and having celebrated their 20th Anniversary last year with the release of “Gravkamre, Kroner og Troner”, a 20-song, 2 CD collection of rarities, TAAKE is a band that needs no introduction to any fan of Norwegian Black Metal, and founder Hoest’s contribution to the genre is immense. The epitome of what a Black Metal frontman should be, Hoest has remained true to his Black Metal roots, but at the same time he is constantly able to surprise his fans with his ability to breathe life and originality into a genre that is often mired in preconceptions . Founded in 1993 by guitarist and frontman Ares, AETERNUS is one of the pioneers of what the band calls “Dark Metal”, a genre that combines features from both Black Metal and Death Metal with superlative guitar playing and occasional haunting, melodic interludes. AETERNUS re-emerged last year from a seven-year hiatus with, appropriately enough, the release of their seventh full-length album “…And The Seventh His Soul Detesteth”, and a new line up that comprises Ares on guitars and vocals, Phobos (GRAVDAL, MALSAIN) on drums, Specter (TORTORUM, ex GRAVDAL) on guitars and Eld (KRAKOW, VITHR, ISABELLA LEROY) on bass. Following his departure from VREID, where he played guitar on four of the iconic band’s albums Ese formed SLEGEST in 2010, so whilst the band may be a relative newcomer compared to its tour-mates TAAKE and AETERNUS, its founder has a wealth of skill and experience to draw on. Inspired by BLACK SABBATH, Ese uses harsh vocals to create a special blend of classic heavy rock and old-school black metal that is both dark and sinister whilst being propelled along by a down and dirty groove that is immediate and catchy and which earned last year’s debut album plaudits from critics and fans alike. Aside from Ese on Vocals and Rhythm Guitars, SLEGEST’s live line up includes Sør (BÄÄÄV, VONBRÅTEN) on Lead Guitars, Hövard (BOMBEKLÜCHTER) on Bass and Fjøsne on Drums. According to Patricia Thomas Management, With their latest album “…And The Seventh His Soul Detesteth” receiving high praise from reviewers, Norwegian Dark Metallers AETERNUS are streaming a second track from what is their seventh full-length album, on their SoundCloud page. The track “Spurcitias” can be heard below:
“…And The Seventh His Soul Detesteth” was released earlier this year on Dark Essence Records, and was produced by Bjornar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) at the Conclave and Earshot studios in Bergen. All music for the album is by AETERNUS, whilst the concept and lyrics are by the band’s former bassist V’gandr (TAAKE, HELHEIM). Artwork for the ten-track album is by Timo Ketola, known for his work with bands such as for DEATHSPELL OMEGA, ASPHYX, DISSECTION MARDUK, WATAIN and OPETH amongst others. The first pressing includes AETERNUS’ 1995 “Dark Sorcery” EP as a bonus, and is available directly from the label at http://karismarecords.bigcartel.com/artist/aeternus.
AETERNUS was one of the original pioneers of what these days is called Dark Metal, and which, in AETERNUS’s case, combines features from both Black and Death Metal, together with occasional melodic interludes and superlative guitar playing. The band’s current line up includes guitarist and frontman Ares, who originally founded the band in 1993, Specter (ex-GRAVDAL) on guitars, Eld (KRAKOW) on bass and Phobos (GRAVDAL, MALSAIN) on drums.
Patricia Thomas Management has issued that the Norwegian Dark Metallers AETERNUS announced today that KRAKOW frontman and bassist Frode Kilvik, who had recently played on stage with the band for their appearance at this year’s Inferno Festival, would be joining as full-time bassist. As is so often the norm with bands, his role with KRAKOW, the band he co-founded in 2005, will remain unchanged.
AETERNUS itself was formed in 1993 in Bergen, Norway, by guitarist and frontman Ares, and, until the release of the latest album “…And The Seventh His Soul Detesteth”, on Dark Essence Records at the beginning of April, the band had remained relatively quiet since the release of the previous album “Hexaeon”. Aside from Ares, who is the only remaining member from the original lineup, and Kilvik, AETERNUS includes Specter (ex-GRAVDAL) on guitars and Phobos (GRAVDAL, MALSAIN, GALAR) on drums. Commenting on the new addition, Ares said: “There is no doubt that Specter and Phobos infused the band not only with new blood, but also with a fresh perspective. Frode’s arrival will expand on that for sure. It was obvious from his performance at Inferno that he has an incredible stage presence that fits perfectly with the attitude we all project when we play live, and his considerable musical skills are well-able to handle the sometimes complex demands of AETERNUS’ music . Not to mention the fact that he’s a great guy, which is probably even more important, and we are all very much looking forward to working as a unit”
“…And The Seventh His Soul Detesteth”, which is the band’s seventh album, was produced at the Conclave and Earshot studios in the band’s home town of Bergen by Bjornar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) The first pressing of the album includes AETERNUS’ 1995 “Dark Sorcery” EP as a bonus. All music for the album is by AETERNUS, whilst the concept and lyrics are by HELHEIM’s V’gandr, who is also a former member of AETERNUS.
