Finland’s multi-Platinum cello-rockers APOCALYPTICA are thrilled to announce the second single from Apocalyptica Plays Metallica, Vol. 2 – the hotly-anticipated sequel to their legendary debut record. The Unforgiven II falls hot on the heels of first single The Four Horsemen, featuring Metallica’s very own bassist Rob Trujllo.
Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2 will continue the journey that began in 1996 when cellists from Helsinki’s world-renowned Sibelius Academy played symphonic tribute to the biggest of the big four – heavy metal titans Metallica. For their ninth record the classically-minded dynamos are returning to their roots to bring a legendary story full circle. It also features a host of surprises beginning with a unique collaboration.
Second single The Unforgiven II, taken from Metallica’s 1997 album Reload is a stunning reimagining of a cast-iron classic, setting the scene for a compendium of deep cuts and brilliant highlights spanning Metallica’s staggering 40 year career, and there are more surprises to come.
“We wanted to balance what we were doing between old and new,” says lead cellist Perttu Kivilaakso. “The Unforgiven II has such beautiful melodies and the lyrics are great, too! I loved the fact that we’ve been able to bind this record and our first record together in this way.“
Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2 was produced by longtime collaborator and studio supremo Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Tool) and will be released via new label Throwdown Entertainment on June 7th.

Hello our dear cello-metal community, after having announced our European tour, we have more great news to spread. We are THRILLED to finally be able to tell you: Our new album “Plays Metallica Vol. 2” will be out June 7th!
We’ve been talking about making another Metallica album for around 20 years, as there were and still are so many great songs we want to play! The first single we want to present to you is “The Four Horsemen”. And we couldn’t be more excited to have a great feature guest on it: Rob Trujillo himself, who is probably THE greatest bass player in this whole wide world! We’ve always enjoyed sharing our love for Metallica. Now, this is next level for us as well!
Our next album will come in different vinyl formats, as a CD, in bundles and of course on all streaming plattforms. We thoroughly decided a collection of Metallica songs we gave our very own twist to. Here is the tracklist you can look forward to:

As you may have seen on social media already, “Plays Metallica Vol. 2” is the last collective achievement we have with our dear drummer Mikko Síren. After 20 years, we have amicably parted ways. We wish him happiness and success in everything he aims for in all his future endeavours!
To us, it feels like everything falls into place right now with the album, tour and stories we will soon share with you about the album creation process! At this point, we will start with showing you the track list (see below). If you are already totally into it like us:

Today is the day: Our live album “Live in Helsinki – St. John’s Church” is out now! The album is available in two formats: a 2LP gatefold vinyl in transparent orange and a deluxe 2CD digisleeve . Both formats include a variety of our songs in special versions. You can of course also listen to the album on all streaming platforms or download it. We are escpecially grateful for Finnish churches letting us bring our special metal-classic mix to their beautiful walls. In that case, St. John’s Church in Helsinki was the perfect place to record this show. Join us on a journey into the mind!
