Finnish progressive death metal supergroup, BARREN EARTH, have released the brand new single and video for “The Ruby”, taken off their upcoming album, “A Complex Of Cages”, which will be released on March 30, 2018 via Century Media Records!

Singer Jón Aldará comments, “This song concerns the inability to feel empathy for others or to care about the effects of one’s actions. It is seen through the mind of a person who is locked inside that isolating condition, while still wishing to fit into society and connect with others. In this instance, the ruby is a metaphor for an unliving, impenetrable heart. With the video, Vesa has tried to capture a quite simplistic, closed-in feeling to represent the concept of the song, but at the same time used the classic “band playing” format, since this the closest thing to a straightforward rocker that Barren Earth has ever made.”

The video was directed and produced by Vesa Ranta.

“The Ruby” is available as a digital single on all download and streaming platforms and as an Instant Grat Track on iTunes and Amazon. Preorders for all physical formats of “A Complex of Cages” are also available as of now.

Finnish progressive death metal outfit BARREN EARTH is currently preparing to record the follow-up to 2015’s “On Lonely Towers” at Woodshed Studios in March with producer V. Santura, issued Metal Blade Records.

Vocalist Jón comments, “We are working towards a darker and more aggressive feel, which we attempt to express both experimentally and with a good dose of blunt force!”

Bassist Oppu adds, “The melodic and melancholic side is naturally still there, but spiced with a touch of anger and groove. I’m also looking forward of working with Victor, since we all appreciate his previous work. It also is the first time Barren Earth works with a proper producer, and are very excited about the idea of bringing somebody else into the mix and seeing where that takes us.”

This is how V. Santura comments on the cooperation: “I am really excited about working with Barren Earth! The guys are fantastic musicians and the demo material I’ve heard so far sounds very promising.”

BARREN EARTH recently returned to Finland following a hugely successful European tour with INSOMNIUM to begin finalizing the arrangements for the yet untitled 4th album.

Helsinki based progressive death metallers BARREN EARTH have launched their brand new music video for “Set Alight”, which is the fifth track of their forthcoming album “On Lonely Towers”, on Century Media. The video was shot and produced by Owe Lingvall.

The release of BARREN EARTH‘s eagerly awaited third full-length album “On Lonely Towers” (on Century Media) is coming closer and now they have launched a lyric video for their brand new song “A Shapeless Derelict”.

Bassist Olli-Pekka Laine comments on the music: “Varying from 90’s death and doom metal to 70’s avant-garde prog rock, ‘A Shapeless Derelict’ represents Barren Earth’s roots in their purest form. Let the track’s original title, Kingtopsy, a hybrid between King Crimson and Autopsy, do the talking. Having these ingredients blended and represented in modern, but still traditional standards, ‘A Shapeless Derelict’ simply stands up to its name: Abandoned and deserted at sea – moaning alone, oddly, yet proudly!”

Singer J??ldar?escribes the story behind the lyrics: “A forsaken girl wanders through both physical and mental landscapes without direction as hallucinations and desperation tear at her mind. This is a metaphor-heavy song about overcoming the fear of being nothing in a world without true meaning and gaining courage to live nonetheless.”

“On Lonely Towers” will be released via Century Media Records on March 30th, 2015 in Europe and March 24th, 2015 in North America and will be available as Ltd. Digipak Edition, Ltd. 2LP, Standard Jewel Case Edition and as digital download.

Combining elements of modern and traditional death metal with 70’s prog rock and folk, originally Finnish progressive death metal outfit BARREN EARTH, now reinforced by Faroese native lead singer Jón Aldará, managed to build up an excellent reputation with only two albums. Their debut “Curse Of The Red River” (2010) and its follow-up “The Devil’s Resolve” (2012) have already solidified the band as one of the most promising upcoming acts of the genre and now they are at the ready to release another milestone in their career, taking the experimentation and heaviness to even further heights.

The band comments:

”It’s the middle of a long, dark and cold winter here in Finland, however there’s no limit to our excitement as the future looks really bright today! We have a new set of music about to be released, having worked our asses off to create not just another album but a piece of real substance and weight in a world of cheap thrills and quickly forgotten gimmicks.
