Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH have checked in with the following announcement:
Is there anything left to say about BEHEMOTH? If you are honest to yourself, not really – but let’s give it a shot. Polish blackened death metallers have achieved what only a few bands in that genre will ever be able to reach for. After years of relentless touring and releasing even stronger music with each output, all the hard work has paid off & very few, if any, lay ahead of them. With each tour in Australia since 2006 growing in stature and anticipation, this 2013 tour will surely be the one to top them all as BEHEMOTH, punish us with their formidable and incredible live performances and vitriolically spew forth their hellacious hymns the way they should be. This band is UNSTOPPABLE!!
Unleashing a likely tour de force in maniacal death metal brutality, a celebration of music in it’s darkest and most inhuman form, HOUR OF PENANCE have ascended to an even greater height of precision savagery. Every population has its cancer, every movement its enemies. Be the wolf amongst the flock. Embrace the barbarity! HOUR OF PENANCE storm Australia for the first time for a spiteful and malicious set of shows!
BEHEMOTH with HOUR OF PENANCE and local supports performing at:
October 24th – Capitol, Perth
October 25th – The Esplanade Hotel, Melbourne
October 26th – The Manning Bar, Sydney
October 27th – The Hifi, Brisbane
October 29th – Auckland, Kings Arms
Drummer Kerim “Krimh” Lechner (ex-DECAPITATED) is currently on the road with Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH as the temporary replacement for Zbigniew Robert Prominski (a.k.a. Inferno) who is recovering from appendix surgery.
Drum-cam footage of Krimh‘s fourth show with BEHEMOTH, which took place on June 21 at the See-Rock festival in Graz, Austria, can be seen below.
Says Krimh: “I am sorry for the poor sound quality, but it was a weak PA system and a very windy day. That’s why the sound is changing from time to time.”
BEHEMOTH was forced to cancel its appearance at the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival due to Inferno taking ill and requiring surgery.
Commented BEHEMOTH guitarist/vocalist Adam “Nergal” Darski: “This must have been the most difficult decision we were forced to make in recent years. BEHEMOTH is known for not canceling any shows or tours. But this is not something we can do when we are missing our driving force, the man behind the drums — Inferno. Unfortunately, he was hospitalized due to appendix surgery and it’s gonna take him few months to fully recover and get back to shape. We are trying to save selected European festivals with a fill-in drummer Krimh, but we won’t be risking doing a full-on prestigious tour like the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival without Inferno. BEHEMOTH is a solid unit and any part of this unit missing makes us weaker, and that is not how we want to present our new material to our fans. Please, accept our apologies and be patient, we shall return to Europe (this fall) and U.S. (early 2014) empowered and motivated as never before!”
BEHEMOTH will release its tenth full-length album, “The Satanist”, in the fall via Nuclear Blast in Europe and Metal Blade in North America. The CD is being recorded at Hertz studio in Bialystok, Poland with the help of the Wieslawscy brothers and Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, SOILWORK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD). Songtitles set to appear on the effort include “Blow Your Trumpet, Gabriel” — described by Darski as “killer” and “a monster”; “Messe Noir” (French for “The Black Mass”); and “Ora Pro Nobis, Lucifer” (Latin for “Pray For Us, Lucifer”).
In a brand new interview with Revolver magazine, Darski described BEHEMOTH‘s new songs as “very atmospheric” and “very emotional.” “Think BURZUM meets NEW ORDER meets KILLING JOKE,” he added. But at the same time, fans shouldn’t expect the album to sound too far removed from BEHEMOTH‘s past efforts. “Take SLAYER, for example,” Darski said. “Whatever genre they deal with, they still end up sounding like SLAYER. Even when they were flirting with nu-metal, it was a SLAYER record. Same with BEHEMOTH.”
According to Darski, at least some of the inspiration for the new BEHEMOTH album is coming from his five-month bout of leukemia he overcame in January 2011, after receiving a bone-marrow transplant. “When I was in the hospital, I was collecting experiences and emotions,” he said. “I’m pretty sure that it’s coming out now. There are moments I catch myself thinking about how my state was back then. It was me versus life, me versus death. It definitely changed my thoughts a lot. It’s 100 percent being reflected in the record and songs I’m writing nowadays. I’m way more radical than I used to be.”
Regarding the title of the new BEHEMOTH album, Darski said, “It took us over two decades to come up with a title that… says it all.
“While our new songs artistically take surprisingly adventurous directions, our message stands steadfast — proud and radical.
“‘The Satanist’ stands for undying yearning for liberation and love for freedom in all aspects of life.
“Considering all our life experiences that often took dramatic curves, I couldn’t think of more appropriate and fitting statement of who and where we are now.”

Decibel magazine’s July issue (on newsstands in June) features a nine-page tribute to late SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman in the form of a moving retrospective obituary, some of Hanneman‘s most biting quotes, and a litany of heartfelt remembrances from EXODUS, Philip Anselmo (DOWN, PANTERA), AT THE GATES, TESTAMENT, CANNIBAL CORPSE and countless other contemporaries, including BEHEMOTH guitarist/vocalist Adam “Nergal” Darski.
“This news was devastating,” Nergal said. “SLAYER was more than just a band. SLAYER, for me, has always been about the attitude that influenced myself and BEHEMOTH throughout the years. I’ll always be thankful.
“I remember when we were to open for them in Poland years ago for the first time. I had a chance to meet Armand [Crump], Kerry‘s [King, SLAYER guitarist] guitar tech (R.I.P.), and found out how big a BEHEMOTH fan he was. So, when I saw him doing guitar check with BEHEMOTH‘s ‘Conquer All’, I was bursting with pride. He would always let me watch SLAYER from the side of the stage. When we toured with them on the Mayhem tour in the U.S., I would go and watch SLAYER every single day. I never missed a show. One day it was Kerry‘s side, another day Jeff‘s. Another day I would watch from the front. Yeah … call me the luckiest man on earth!
“It was only once that I had a chance to meet Jeff in person. When us and a bunch of other bands, including CANNIBAL [CORPSE], would be barbecuing in the parking lot and he came down with Dave [Lombardo, SLAYER drummer] — both in party moods, ha ha — we encouraged them to get on our bus and do shots with us. I know, that is nothing spectacular — just another party situation. But keep in mind that for a kid who grew up on listening to ‘Evil Has No Boundaries’ when he was 9 or 10, stuff like that means the WORLD.
Hanneman passed away on May 2 from liver failure at the age of 49.
Members of SLAYER released a statement on May 9 saying that Hanneman died of alcohol-related cirrhosis.
Hanneman had actually not been playing with SLAYER for more than two years since he contracted necrotizing fasciitis, also known as flesh-eating disease, from a spider bite in his backyard in January 2011. The infection ravaged the flesh and tissues of Hanneman‘s arm, leading to numerous surgeries, skin grafts and intense periods of rehab that forced him into semi-retirement and left him near death at several points.
Hanneman‘s last appearance with SLAYER was in April 2011, when he played an encore with the band at the “Big Four” concert in Indio, California.
