BLACK SABBATH have added a New Zealand show to their upcoming tour of Down Under which commences next April. According to Stuff.co.nz, the last time the band performed in the country was in 1973, when they played the Great Ngaruawahia Music Festival. Sabbath hit Auckland’s Vector Arena on April 20th.
The original Black Sabbath line-up of singer Ozzy Osbourne, bassist Geezer Butler and guitarist Tony Iommi have confirmed the following reunion dates while they complete their first studio album since 1978’s Never Say Die!
April
20 – Vector Arena – Auckland, New Zealand
25 – Brisbane Entertainment Centre – Brisbane, Australia
27 – Allphones Arena – Sydney, Australia
May
1 – Rod Laver Arena – Melbourne, Australia
4 – Perth Arena – Perth, Australia
According to a post on BLACK SABBATH‘s official Facebook page, the band’s guitarist, Tony Iommi, “is tracking more guitars on the new [SABBATH] album today.”
Iommi clarified the status of the band’s new CD in an interview with “The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show”. Although it has been reported that the band has recorded 15 songs, Iommi explained, “That’s wrong . . . We’ve written 15 songs and we’ve played them all. But now, at the moment, we’re recording them. We recorded them at my house first, in England, just as demos, but now we’re doing them for real. So we’re about six tracks in now, at the moment.”
Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler are recording their first album together under the SABBATH name since 1978’s “Never Say Die”.
The drums on the disc are being handled by Tommy Clufetos, who has replaced founding drummer Bill Ward due to a contractual dispute between Ward and the rest of the group.
Asked if there is any chance of Ward rejoining the band, Iommi said, “We’ll always have a heart for Bill, but I think it’s gone past that now, because it’s gone on so long that I don’t see that happening at the moment. Maybe at some point we might [play together again].”
Meanwhile, SABBATH has announced an Australian tour for next April and has also revealed that it will headline the first-ever Japanese version of Ozzfest on May 11-12, with SLIPKNOT also on the bill.

In the interview footage below, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi talks with Eric Blair about being a cancer survivor , The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund, progress on the new Black Sabbath album, Rick Rubin, Bill Ward, and his fondest memories of RONNIE JAMES DIO.
When asked about progress on new Black Sabbath material and reports that he has laid down guitar for 15 new songs, he responds, “I know that, but that’s wrong. When Ozzy (Osbourne) said it, I think he meant what we’d done… we’d written the 15 songs and we played them all. But now, at the moment, we’re recording them. BLACK SABBATH guitarist TONY IOMMI is “pleased to announce that the paperback version of my autobiography is released in the UK this week – Thursday 8th November. For those of you in the USA, I’m afraid it’s not until December 11th. It’s got new chapters bringing everything up to date including my battle with lymphoma.”
Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven & Hell With Black Sabbath was originally released as a hardcover book in November 2011.
Iron Man chronicles the story of both pioneering guitarist Tony Iommi and legendary band Black Sabbath. Iron Man reveals the man behind the icon yet still captures Iommi’s humor, intelligence, and warmth. He speaks honestly and unflinchingly about his rough-and-tumble childhood, the accident that almost ended his career, his failed marriages, personal tragedies, battles with addiction, band mates, famous friends, newfound daughter, and the ups and downs of his life as an artist.
Everything associated with hard rock happened to Black Sabbath first: the drugs, the debauchery, the drinking, the dungeons, the pressure, the pain, the conquests, the company men, the contracts, the combustible drummer, the critics, the comebacks, the singers, the Stonehenge set, the music, the money, the madness, the metal.
