According to InGoal Magazine, Massachusetts recreational hockey goaltender Liz Conner has had a BLACK SABBATH-themed goalie mask created by Headstrong Grafx.
”I asked specifically for the picture of Henry (the flying devil logo) on the forehead, based on alternative CD art for ‘The Devil You Know’ and the band name on the chin,” Liz said. “My only other stipulation was that the mask not focus 100% on Ozzy. Tony Iommi‘s riffs are what drew me to SABBATH, and I wanted to make sure he was included somewhere. The rest was all Headstrong.”
As previously reported, backup goaltender Chris Mason of the NHL hockey team Nashville Predators recently debuted his new mask, featuring a tribute to British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN in the shape of the band’s mascot Eddie.
The design in question utilizes Eddie from the Egyptian-themed cover of MAIDEN‘s “Powerslave” album, which also produced the single “Aces High” and corresponding Eddie included on Mason‘s 2011 Winnipeg Jets mask. Both covers were originally created originally by artist Derek Riggs, who inspired the mask’s artist, Steve Nash of EyeCandyAir.
DEEP PURPLE‘s Ian Gillan and BLACK SABBATH‘s Tony Iommi took everybody by surprise in 2011 by releasing a charity single: ‘Out Of My Mind’, renewing the collaboration that led the pair recording the Black Sabbath album Born Again in 1984. None other than Jason Newsted (METALLICA), Jon Lord (ex-Deep Purple), Nicko McBrain (IRON MAIDEN) and Linde Lindström (H.I.M.) supported the two rock legends.
Not only jamming together for the shear fun of things, this new project has united for a cause – rebuilding and helping the music school in Gyumari, Armenia. The single was a joyful and inspired moment. Iommi and Gillan then decided to make WhoCares an album for their devoted fans. Classic songs and a lot of rarities and unreleased material in two-CDs of fantastic rare music. This is much more than a Gillan solo album or a Deep Purple anthology – this is a real collector’s item and must have for every Ian Gillan and Tony Iommi fan.
The album was released in Europe on July 13th, and will now be available in North America on August 28th.
The Black Sabbath classic ‘Zero The Hero’ is currently streaming online at BraveWords.com – head to the left-hand-side of the site to launch the KnuckleTracks Online Audio Player.

Ward in May announced again that he was declining to join his former bandmates for its scheduled 2012 dates, as well as the recording of a new album, due to a contractual dispute.
He also allegedly had his lawyers direct SABBATH to remove him from photos of the band posted at the official BLACK SABBATH web site “so as to not give the public the wrong impression about his involvement in the current BLACK SABBATH lineup,” according to a statement issued by the band’s publicist.
Bassist Geezer Butler issued a lengthy retort at his own web site, writing that Ward “hadn’t told any one of us he was having contractual problems, and frankly those things are worked out between our representatives, and never between the four of us, let alone in public.”
Until now, Iommi told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that the members of SABBATH stayed friendly even when there were legal or other issues going on. “We’ve always been talking. We’ve always been in touch with each other,” he said. “There might be a lawsuit in the thing between us, but we still talk to each other like nothing’s happened, you know.”
Ozzy, Iommi and Butler are working on their first new album together in 33 years.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, a 39-year-old woman suffered a severe cervical neck sprain after hundreds of gate-crashers rushed the fence at Lollapalooza Friday afternoon (August 3), just hours before BLACK SABBATH took the stage in Chicago’s Grant Park.
Cindy Glaser and her husband — who counts SABBATH as his “favorite band of all time” — were injured at around 5:30 p.m. Friday while they were sitting on a grove just east of the Bud Light main stage.
“They knocked the fence over. I heard the crash. The kids started running. And we were hit from behind. A kid bent me in half. His head hit my husband’s head and he hit me in the back of the neck and bent my head forward. I couldn’t see anything until the kids hit us,” Glaser told the Chicago Sun-Times.
“One of the kids who fell over us laid there and tried to get off. By then, police came and peeled him off and put handcuffs on him. Some people said it was about 50. Police were only able to catch three of them.”
Despite Lollapalooza‘s first-ever suspension and evacuation due to inclement weather, the 2012 festival drew a staggering 270,000 fans to a jam-packed Grant Park this weekend.
Lollapalooza was suspended for several hours on Saturday (August 4) and the festival grounds were evacuated due to warnings that a severe thunderstorm was going to hit the area. Every stage was shut down at 3:30 p.m. CT, with concertgoers cleared from the park and sent into three shelters set up underground in the surrounding streets. The storm, reported to have caused heavy damage west of Chicago, included hail, heavy rain, lightning and wind gusts up to 75 mph.
Lollapalooza was SABBATH‘s only North American performance of 2012 as guitarist Tony Iommi continues his treatment for cancer. The rest of the scheduled SABBATH tour dates were played by Ozzy Osbourne and billed as “Ozzy & Friends.”

Drummer Chad Smith of the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS — who are performing at Lollapalooza tonight — told The Pulse Of Radio that he was looking forward to seeing BLACK SABBATH, but added a disclaimer. “I’m little disappointed that — I mean, I’m happy for my hometown boy Tommy on drums, but no Bill Ward,” he said. “Disappointing. It’s like the VAN HALEN thing — you get back together and then you don’t have the guy that’s the original guy? [groans]”

Original BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi, singer Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler performed live together for the first time in seven years on May 19, playing an intimate show at the 3,800-person O2 Academy in SABBATH‘s hometown of Birmingham, England. The show, which served as a warm-up for the group’s headlining appearance the following month at the Download festival, was laced with emotion and drama: it was the first live appearance for Iommi since being diagnosed with cancer, and it was the first with stand-in drummer Tommy Clufetos, making the split official between founding drummer Bill Ward and the rest of SABBATH.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, Iommi was visibly moved when the audience began chanting his name after opening number “Into The Void”, and continued chanting it intermittently throughout the show.
Professionally filmed video footage of the “Paranoid” performance from the Birmingham concert can be seen below.
BLACK SABBATH‘s setlist for the show was as follows:
01. Into The Void

07. Black Sabbath
