According to RollingStones.com,BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has revealed that the group had a particularly fruitful writing session before deciding not to make a follow-up to 13. “I’ve got so many riffs,” he told Q (via Blabbermouth). “I wrote a whole load of stuff for another album, and we met up in L.A. but the others … well, Geezer [Butler] didn’t particularly want to do another album.” News broke last month that the band opted out of recording a new studio record for Universal.
In the new interview, the guitarist explained the ensemble’s rationale. “After you’ve just had a Number One album, where do you go from there?” he said. “For the last LP, we did record 16 songs [but released only 12], so we may still put something out from that. We don’t know yet.”
Asked if he intended to stop playing, Iommi said no. “It’s the touring, really [that’s hard],” he said. “I’d love to do something with the guys. But, whatever happens, I will do something.”
Last September, Ozzy Osbourne told Metal Hammer that the band intended to head back into the studio. At the time, he said he’d prefer to do it “sooner rather than later” and that they would be writing it around Iommi’s treatments for lymphoma. “I don’t know if we’ll be writing in England or Los Angeles, but I’ll fly to the fucking moon for it if I have to,” he said.
Rather than make a new album, BLACK SABBATH are focusing on what they’ve proclaimed to be their final tour, dubbed “The End.” The first leg kicks off in Omaha on January 20th and wraps in late February in New York City. They will return to North America in August and tour through late September for a second leg.

BLACK SABBATH guitar legend Tony Iommi was in Birmingham UK yesterday (Wednesday 26th August), helping Macmillan Cancer Support highlight the loneliness of cancer. BBC.co.uk reported that Tony, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 – spent a few minutes inside the “isolation box” much to the delight of nearby shoppers.
MacMillan Cancer Support was behind the exercise, which was carried out in the city’s Bullring shopping centre.
“I was in a bubble for a while – just like the isolation box,” said Iommi.
The chamber is made from two-way mirrors that stop the inhabitant seeing out but allow other people to look in.
Those inside the box can hear recordings of personal stories from cancer survivors.
The Birmingham-born musician, who was diagnosed with stage three lymphoma, said the box went some way to conveying the isolation he and many other cancer sufferers felt.
“When I was diagnosed I was absolutely devastated,” he said.
“They’re talking to me saying ‘you’ve got stage three’ and it’s going in my head and I just felt somewhere else.
“And it was only later when I really broke down, I thought that’s it, it’s the end. And you really think that.
“But it’s not. There are people who can help.”
Iommi has undergone surgery and chemotherapy and said he was feeling well and looking forward to jetting off to Los Angeles to work.
Bill Ward has described BLACK SABBATH‘s latest album 13 as “a pile of shit”, according to classicrock.teamrock.com.
The estranged Sabbath drummer didn’t play on the 2013 record, having failed to agree on the contract he was offered. Frontman Ozzy Osbourne, however, blamed Ward‘s absence on the sticksman’s health issues. Rage Against The Machine‘s Brad Wilk was behind the kit for the album.
Ward says he had to distance himself from the band after the fallout, with one tactic being to totally dismiss the album that was created without him.
Ward – who remains locked in a war of words with Osbourne – tells the Eddie Trunk Podcast (via Blabbermouth): “I wasn’t interested in the fucking album 13. I’ve heard 20 bars of it – that’s all I’ve heard – and then I turned it off and said, ‘That’s a pile of shit,’ and that’s the truth.
“I wanted to make sure that I went down the line and detached myself as much as possible. I had to stop loving them, because if you’re loving a dog as it’s biting you and ripping your insides out, it’s hard to love a dog that’s doing that.
“So I actually stopped loving them, and I had to learn what we call detachment. So whatever they were doing, I could care less.”
Ward this week described the standoff with his former bandmates as “very sad” and reiterated his stance that he would need a full, public apology from Osbourne before he would consider a return.
