Day 7 – Piotr Wiwczarek:
Next day off supposed to be the same like yesterday. Heavy rain – which means for me a work with mailers, then dinner or a couple of beers. Apparently about 3 PM our TM Hamilcar picked us up for a ride. After about an hour drive we found ourselves in a very special place in the woods on the outskirts of Curitiba city. TEES is for „Tactical Explosive Entry School” which means a school for tactical use of explosive and its different kinds. We were welcomed by training chief Keven, His son and horde of dogs. British accent , Moorhead t-shirt and big smile 😉
This gentleman was training hundreds of policemen , bomb squads or other military groups from the whole world in how to use explosives properly. It was also a short course prepared for us. For next couple of hours we got to know about powder , explosive charges , dynamite or C4. We learned to prepare – or we were watching how to do it – charges to breach doors , brick wall or fire ball. Then we tested them on local range. Kevan’s school was visited before by Motorhead, Twisted Sister or Zakk Wilde (His team preferred but shooting range…of course ). It got dark and we had to drive back to our hotel. Show tomorrow (finally). We need to rest and prepare.

Day 5 – James Stewart:
After the show in Brasilia it was time for a well-deserved day off. Lobby call was set for 17:00 so I slept until late and then spent the morning in my pyjamas, nursing a hangover, eating pizza and complaining that I was still tired. In the afternoon Spider, Augusto, Daniel and myself all went to the roof to consume the last of the beer, Jack Daniel’s and chips. Feeling content, we headed back to pack and then we met in the lobby to go for dinner on our way to the airport and what a meal it was! We arrived at a restaurant offering an amazing self-service buffet complete with shrimp, sushi, traditional Brazilian dishes, cold meats, cheeses and salads, with waiters serving slices of fresh steak from swords. After check-in, Daniel, Halick and myself went in search of vodka (of course) and managed to find our old friend, Wybrowa. What happened after that should not be a mystery to anyone reading this, so I don’t think I need to write more on this subject… After a long day of sleeping, drinking, complaining and more drinking, I decided that I needed a rest and went straight to bed once I arrived at the hotel in Curitiba. And so here I am again, nursing another hangover, in my pyjamas, sadly this time without pizza, complaining. Tour life is excellent!
Day 6 – Piotr Wiwczarek:
Next day off. Soon slow indeed… I was asleep till 10 AM and almost missed my breakfast. I was not the only one, as I noticed. Miss „Wyborowa” devastated my band mates pretty much last night. About 2 PM we went for lunch. Weather has changed totally. Raining intense. So I was working with some mailers in my room. We all set meeting in lobby for walking for 6 PM but we decided to stay in because of rain outside. However, we left hotel an hour later to meet Hamilcar to eat good dinner. In spite of rain. Curitiba is beautiful city indeed and there is the biggest Polish community on the continent over here. We stopped at great looking „Modera” restaurant and – watching nice Toto gig recorded in Wroclaw in Poland BTW – we ate some awesome steak, noodles and burgers, which are a masterpiece in this place. After the feast me and Spider turned back to hotel. James, Halik, Daniel and Hemil’ decided to continue in any pub around. I watched last „Homeland” and „Fargo” episodes, before I went to sleep. After quick plan for the next day…Hypnos took me to the land of beautiful dreams.

Day 4 – Piotr Wiwczarek:
Sunday. In Teresina there was even hotter then yesterday… How humans are able to live over here at all? I forgot to set my clock so I woke up 10 minutes before our trip to the airport. I never packed my stuff so quick before. Even in times, when I was serving in “Pomerania”. Hangover was killing me… Not just me, as I noticed by the desk in lobby 😉
Short drive to the airport, little delay of our flight and about 2 PM we were already in capitol of Brazil – Brasilia. 74 degrees….so nice finally. We had soundcheck scheduled for 3 PM but local promotor took us to hotel and dinner first. Spider and Daniel noticed a pool on the roof of „Mercury” hotel, and that made them both so damned happy. The venue were pretty much similar to the one in Teresina. Stage, lights or whole backline really OK. Former restaurant with smooth walls was not but as easy to make good sound in. However it is piece of cake for us tho. Tonight really early show- at 10 PM. Additional just one support. We still had time to get back to hotel for one hour relax in our rooms with AC running.
We were opening Gates to Hell with intro and „Wings”. Fans went total crazy!!! They did not stop even for a second for the whole show indeed. Huge respect \m/ \m/ Just after this amazing concert, some photos and signings we drove back to hotel, where we met on the roof and slammed some drinks and listened new songs from „Future of the Past: Hell on the East” session. After about an hour all get back to beds. Day off tomorrow….

Day 3 – Piotr Wiwczarek:
Teresina. Hell on the Earth !!!! Over 100 degrees outside… And we play small “open air” tonight 😉
At first all seemed to be not possible but it was not as bad after we arrived to the club at about 4 PM. Local promotor prepared all in proper way and we were much appreciated for pro work. Soundcheck went quick and with no problems, so we came back to hotel for shower, dinner and little relax before Saturday carnage. And that was real massacre indeed! At midnight over 400 lunatic Fans of Extreme Metal were waiting for us. Do we need anything more? Absolutely amazing show and great mood after it could be just fulfilled with few cold drinks.. There were photos and signing session after as well. Then we came back – with the shield – to our nice hotel “Alfa”. Personally the tour started for me just tonight.

DAY 0 +1 – Piotr Wiwczarek:
The beginning of the tour was not easy… My journey started on October 17th at 3 PM in Miejska Wola (where is my home). First 4,5 hours by little bus from Lidzbark Warminski to Warsaw. Hotel on Chmielna Street in the capital. Next day I met my band mates in the airport at about 5 AM and we boarded on the flight of Air France to Sao Paulo (transfer in Paris). The whole flight was like 15 hours total. We arrived to Sao Paulo at 8 PM, we met James (He was flying from London through Amsterdam) and a core of tour agency: Hamilcar and Augustgo. Together we drove to hotel for short rest and shower and we were back to airport at 6 AM to fly to Belem in far North of the land. Another 4 hours travel. Local promotors picked us up and we all moved to hotel to get some sleep.
I could write a lot about the hotel itself, ants walking on walls or our bodies, about power cords hanging in shower cabin or overwhelming disaster. I save Your time tho. Unfortunately this was not last and biggest crap served to us by local promotor. This can be forgiven. However chaos and crap, not working PA or backline on stage can be never forgiven. We started sound check in Botequin club in Belem at 3 PM. We kept trying to find any solution (poor Daniel…) till 6:30 PM. No proper, working amps, no stands, burned D-boxes, damaged PA system….
Unfortunately for us, there was the UDO show in Belem in the same day and that show “stole” almost all, that local sound company had in their garage. (it was not easy for Them either, what we know from other sources). All in all we were able to play a song at the end and – in spite of crap sound and problem with wedges – we were ready for the show. There were 5 more bands that evening so we drove to hotel. We were back to the club at about an hour before our set supposed to start. Few hundred crazy maniacs in front of the stage hungry for Metal waiting…. After short preparation and line check we jumped in our stage armor, intro, entering stage and….. shit hit the fan. What is better description of playing “Wings” with NO kicks at all??? They appear for a second and disappear again. Over and over again… Guitars sound crap and one PA side sounds total differ then the other one. Additionally PA kept fading away during whole show. Nothing in our monitors on stage (we got something like overdriven signal later on). I lost 50% of morale after the first song. And that was just the beginning of that “joke”. I had to cut off few songs because of that shit.
There was of course a great mosh pit and stage divings in Brasilian style but… I still remember some surprised faces asking “what the hell is going on???” There was lack of kinda magic and sound attack, Vader is known from. Even fans screaming “Vader, Vader!” could not change the situation. I was feeling like famous hero cpt. Raginis by Wizna in 1939, when – in spite of great faith and motivation – hopeless situation and lack of proper weapon could not change destiny and failure. The situation was pretty much the same: we did not cancel the show and faced realities. We did it, though local promotor had no respect for the band nor for the Fans, who paid to see a good show. I mean LOCAL promotor of course. Tour agent, who was with us, was also shocked with the lack of respect to the signed contract, like our. All and all it was probably the worse performance (sound-wise) as far as I remember. Our huge respect to ALL Fans and crazy Maniax, we met in front of stage !!!! They went crazy and They made the show indeed. Hail to You \m/ \m/
After that “show” all I wanted was to leave that place. Even the best vodka drink made by Daniel could not change my feelings that night….Hotel, ants, shower, rest….Day off tomorrow.
DAY 2 – James Stewart:
There’s not too much to say about this particular day off. We got back from the concert at 4am (having started at around 1:30am – so technically our ‘day off’ began with a show!) and everyone went straight to bed. We spent the morning just hanging around the hotel just trying to sleep until 13:00 when we went for breakfast in a restaurant close by. After that, we went back to the hotel for around another hour to pack, sleep and wait for our bus to take us to the airport.
Upon arrival while we were checking in we spotted the guys from UDO who also were playing in Belem the night before. We all really wanted to go over and say hi but we were in the middle of a baggage argument with the airport staff and we couldn’t leave. We then split into two groups to deal with two very important things – Pete’s team who went looking for coffee and Daniel’s team who went looking for whiskey. I was part of the latter. We were unable to find any whiskey (or any other spirits) so, doomed to be sober; we headed for the gate only to find that our plane was delayed.
After much hanging around we finally made it to the plane. It was a very small plane with only around 30 seats and it didn’t inspire a huge amount of confidence. Two hours later we made it safely to the city of Teresina (located approximately 4km from the sun) and were met by the promoters and taken to the hotel for a short rest before an incredible dinner with lots of different Brazilian food and lots of beer. After a long rest we’re sitting in the hotel now all feeling totally ready to burn Teresina tonight….

Earlier this year VADER were forced to postpone the South American tour, due to unforseen technical issues by the Brazilian promoter. The band commented in May 2015:
“Unfortunately, due to unforseen technical difficulties faced by the Brazilian promoter, our South American tour has been postponed for November of 2015. The agreement was reached between Vader and Damar Productions, promoter responsible for the tour. All shows are maintained in Brazil and Chile, and more countries will be added to the south american tour soon. New dates will be announced very shortly.”
